We came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The server was friendly. We were brought complimentary salsa and tostadas to start. The salsa was addicting. I got coffee and machaca con huevos. It was really good. I hadn't had that in so long so it was very nostalgic. I've heard good things about this place and it didn't disappoint. I will have to return to try the pozole.

Carne asada plate. With grilled onions & rice & beans :)

Amazing food ! I always order their carne asada plate with extra grilled onions; it comes with rice & beans and a small salad with guacamole. Portions are filling & great tasting. Wish they gave more salsa but still amazing! Worth a try, so stop by for a yummy meal!

Rolled into this Mexican food spot expecting trouble, but everything was running clean. Prices were decent, place was spotless, and the service was smooth like they'd been doing this a long time. Lunch specials came through strong, and Taco Tuesday? Buy a drink and the tacos start flowing. No schemes here--just a solid operation that knows how to treat its people.

Usually here for lunch, and the food is good. I wouldn't consider it super authentic but the flavor is there and the service is excellent. A local favorite I like to visit.

Delicious option! A solid 4.5 stars. Came on a Saturday evening and it was a pretty full house! Which does says a lot. Food: - Mi Burrito with Al Pastor (wet) ($17): This thang is HUGE and it's delicious with both red and green sauce! A ton of flavor without feeling oily and greasy but it really has a fill with delicious Al Pastor. I might try Carne Asada next time. Love the rice and bean filling with the guac on the side. Delicious! - Free chips and salsa: Oh man, their chips are huge slats of fried tortilla it seems and you break off your own pieces. And the green salsa is FIRE & spicy lol. Definitely has a kick to it! Pros: - Fast and full service. Great for families and everyday folk - Delicious flavors. The flavors themself are a solid 4.5 stars. - Attentive service. - Inside and outside options with quite a few TVs around. Cons: - A little pricey for the cuisine. Not a hole in the wall experience Came here from a Tmobile dining recommendation. Not disappointing at all! Also I took some pictures of the menu since I couldnt find any recent menus on their page, or yelp, or google. Hopefully I'm doing a good deed lol. Thanks for a great meal! Ill be back when I'm in the area!

I met a friend here for lunch on a weekday. The service was in point and the food came out fairly quick. The chips and salsa are addicting. I could eat their rice and beans everyday. They have an outdoor and indoor seating. We sat outdoors; it was nice but you can hear the noise of the main street so if you're sensitive to noise..... having a dedicated parking lot is a huge plus.

Caldo de Res 10/10 Service staff was polite and helpful. Place was very clean and tity. I would recommend this restaurant for your favorite Mexican cuisine.

I really was looking forward to this place. It was disappointed with food. To pay $15 on an unpleasant presentation of this burrito.

The idea was to enjoy my coffee while getting organized--paying bills, planning calendar events, and having the opportunity to focus without any distractions from my usual surroundings. In search of the perfect spot, I turned to Yelp, a reliable resource for uncovering hidden gems nearby. Upon stepping into the coffee shop, I was immediately greeted with warm hospitality, setting the tone for a delightful experience. The ambiance of the place was truly captivating--it was bright and welcoming, infused with an aesthetic charm that instantly put me at ease. I couldn't help but be intrigued by the design elements throughout the shop, which added an inviting touch to its overall atmosphere. Before I settled in, I asked the staff if I could snap a few photos to capture the essence of this delightful space. They graciously welcomed my request, and I was shown to my table, which, quite uniquely, was designated by a number--a small detail that I found charming. As I browsed the menu, I encountered a small conundrum: I wasn't entirely sure what to order. I wanted to break the mold and try something out of the ordinary. My curiosity was piqued by their exclusive offering of Café de la Olla--a traditional hot drink that piqued my interest right away. I ultimately settled on a hearty plate that included rice, beans, and enticing potato tostones, accompanied by two beautifully cooked sunny-side-up eggs. As I waited for my order, I noticed the café was filled with the sweet sounds of old-school music from the '60s and '70s, which only enhanced the cozy ambiance while I sipped my drink. Now, let's talk about the food! I must say, I rated the café itself a solid 4 out of 5 for its overall charm, while the rice earned a respectable 4 out of 5. The beans were rich in flavor and received a fair 3.9 out of 5. The potato tostones, delicately bathed in a savory red sauce, stood out with an impressive score of 4.3 out of 5--these are a must-try if you visit! And as for the sunny-side-up eggs, they were good, but hey, eggs are eggs, right? Overall, the entire experience was quite enjoyable, from the delightful food to the warm atmosphere. A special shout-out goes to Ana, whose exceptional customer service made my visit even more memorable. The combination of fantastic service, inviting aesthetics, and satisfying food truly made for a perfect morning retreat. I can't recommend this spot enough for anyone looking for a relaxing place to unwind and focus on what matters.

They look just like bagged Costco shrimp. Flavor is ok on the chips you get when you sit down. No salsa as this is a Oaxaca style spot. The mole drizzle on top is ok. The biggest issue is that the online web menu did not match what was available in the restaurant on a weekend. No tlayuda or huarache/sope or tacos even. Bizzare and not cool because when we arrived, we realized this and still decided to stay. So. Thats on us. Would not return. This place is cute inside and I could tell it wants to be trendy and cute. The music was loud and kinda clubbey but still not enough to make the food enjoyable. Alcohol drinks are very pretty, aesthetically. Waitresses also were not busy on a weekend at dinner time. I could see that they were chatting in the corner. There was only one other table there so I get it. However, when she got our order. It was wrong so that rubbed me the wrong way.

However we were going either way because it was also our featured DJ's birthday. We made reservations but that was difficult too as we called for several days until someone actually answered the phone. I was a little surprised because the food we ordered were all pretty tasty, decent portions, and reasonably priced. The service was ok. Orders took a little time to arrive, but they made sure we had chips and salsa and with a full crowd and a limited number of wait staff, they made sure we were still being attended too. Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

One Of The Best Hot Burritos In Town & Their Hot Sauces Are On Point. I Highly Recommend Them!read more

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.

A weekend brunch with friends brought me to Madre's Whittier, where the menu offered plenty of tempting options--and a few unexpected lessons about ordering seafood. I tried the Ensenada Omelet, loaded with shrimp, salmon, crab, and octopus. Now, I'm a seafood lover, but octopus and I aren't exactly close friends. I asked if it could be removed, but since the seafood mix is pre-made, the octopus had already RSVP'd to the party. The omelet was good, topped with a creamy sauce, but not something I'd order again. The crab appeared to be imitation crab, and while everything was prepared well, it just wasn't a standout for me. The real star? The strawberry pancakes. Delicious! Next time, I'd order those with a side of eggs and call it a win. I also sampled the chilaquiles, and now that's a dish I'd come back for. The Tiramisu Latte was another favorite--not overly sweet and packed with that classic tiramisu flavor I love. A special shoutout to our waitress, Annie, who was attentive, friendly, and made our brunch experience even better. My Verdict: Skip the Ensenada Omelet and build your brunch around the stars of the menu instead. The strawberry pancakes are the must-order item, the chilaquiles are a strong savory choice, and the Tiramisu Latte ties everything together. If you order wisely, Madre's delivers a brunch worth coming back for.
