YUMMY! Can't believe I didn't know how affordable & delicious this place was. Found them on IG offering up a free protein bowl. Came with white rice pinto beans cilantro tomatoes shrimp chicken salmon swai fish. I skipped on the green/red chilis. The rice was perfectly cooked, so flavorful & fluffy but unseasoned which was great because it paired really well with the seasoned fish & chicken with the tomatillo sauce. My favorite fish restaurant was SanSai and I had been going to there MV location for nearly 2 decades until the permanently closed in 2020. I'm so glad I found this place. Yum, yum, YUM!! I got a chicken taco and the protein bowl and both were very good especially for a quick service restaurant. The food tasted very fresh. The grilled corn topping really added some nice flavor and I'm not usually a big fish person, but I loved the shrimp and actually really enjoyed the fish in the protein bowl as well! The salsa had a nice tang too, very good. The interior was clean and has cool decor and design choices. They have kiosks to order from which makes looking at all your options easy peasy. I am not sure if this location is under New Management or what, bit what I do know is tge portion sizes are smaller as seen in the attached photo and the way the Garlic Butter is now just plopped on the fish is not as nice as when it was evenly spread as if someone preparing the food really cared about presentation. Oh and when a mistake is made on the Shrimp Skewers covering up the Garlic Butter with Cajon is not the right move, especially when the garlic butter is visibly seen on what should be Cajon Seasoned shrimp (as seen in my photo) This use to be my favorite location, but not any more. When I found out about California Fish Grill (CFG), I had to try it and when I did, I was in foodie heaven. I was like..."Where have you been all my life?!" This restaurant chain meets all my needs as an on-the-go seafood lover. Plus, CFG is committed to 100% sustainable seafood which is AWESOME as well as NO High Fructose Corn Syrup in their drinks. The service is always quick and food always delicious...many thanks to the stellar staff. One day, I left my laptop mouse and they kept it for me. We stopped in for dinner at 6pm on Tuesday night. We ordered from the kiosk and then sat in an empty booth. Unfortunately, the table was not freshly wiped down. While there were customers inside, it was not particularly busy. Our bowls were ready in about ten minutes. My Mediterranean shrimp bowl was generously sized, and the shrimp were flavorful, well-cooked & tasty. The kale could've used some massaging to soften it up. I also could have done without the Kalamata olives. The avocado was fresh and added nice flavor to the bowl. Plenty of rice! The honey citrus shrimp bowl was also good. The shrimp were heavily fried, so that adds some serious calories. It was also generously portioned with brown rice (added charge) and slaw. Overall, CFG continues to deliver fresh and reasonably priced seafood & chicken dishes. They also have some wines and beers available. The service was barely noticeable. There were a lot of folks working, but the bathroom was a disaster with paper towels everywhere & when we walked in there were many used trays on tables. I'm not sure if the manager was absent, or something... but the restaurant had a neglected feel. Hopefully next time the dining room & restaurant will be a little more upbeat and welcoming. So you place your order on the kiosk which is cool but can be confusing for someone who has never been there before like myself. It was my first time trying California fish grill and I was pleasantly surprised! I got the swai fish plate and it was so delicious. I got it with brown rice, roasted corn and garlic butter/cajun sauce. The total with tip and tax was around $22. My plate came out pretty quick and it was so good! My mom was craving fish and chips but didn't want the "chips". So I got her beer battered fish with rice. It comes with two sides but I doubled up on the rice. For myself, I got the salmon and white fish plate with rice and kale slaw topped with Cajun tartar sauce. The whole ordering process was on the self kiosk which had photos and made ordering easy. I wasn't a fan of my salmon as it was tough and dry. The white fish was soft and flaky, the thinness also helped. I was hungry and finished my entire plate. We also got clam chowder. I signed up for their app and got to try the protein bowl. It was outstanding! I always struggle to get enough protein in my diet and I think this is a great post workout meal (or for any meal really). I like the option of subbing rice for cauliflower rice. I had a voucher for one free taco that expired at the end of December, so I made sure to drop by California Fish Grill when I was in the area recently. I've sampled their food before and have always enjoyed their very tender fish, sustainable practices, and scrumptious sauces. This was my first time trying their tacos. This location is clean and spacious with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I opted to order via kiosk and a worker made sure to check in on me to ask if I had any questions. I ordered a cajun shrimp taco and a cajun fish taco, and my order was ready shortly. Both tacos were a good size. Between the two, I liked the shrimp taco a tad more. The shrimp were nicely seared and had a good kick to them that built up as I kept eating. The corn salsa had a good sweetness and the mountain of thinly sliced pickled red onions added a nice kick to each bite. I think a sauce similar to the one on my fish taco would have taken the shrimp taco to the next level, as it was just a tad dry. The fish taco on the other hand, was hard carried by the toppings. While the fish was tender, it was quite bland by itself. The green sauce and corn and tomato Salad added flavor while the pickled onions and cabbage added some much needed crunch to the relentlessly soft fish. Overall this is one of the better restaurant chains I've tried, and I can always get behind sustainable fishing practices. I probably would not frequent this restaurant, but I am glad I now have another good option for a quick and not terribly greasy meal if I am in a pinch. This is definitely a no frills place with very few tables inside. The menu is on the wall with lots of choices. You can get salads, bowls, grilled plates, tacos and sandwiches. We went over to the self service kiosk as there wasn't a cashier to help us out. As a first timer, this was very disconcerting as there were only 2 registers and a line. Navigating the touch screen was not so easy,. When I looked at my order, it wasn't quite right. I had to go back and edit it. I chose the grilled plate with swai and salmon and my two sides were rosemary zucchini and Caesar salad. The said was good, but the salmon fishy and over cooked. The zucchini on the other hand was under cooked. The Caesar salad was good. My husband had the grilled plate with wild ahi tuna. His sides were the seasoned tomato and feta with the grilled asparagus. The asparagus was undercooked. The tomato and feta was good. The tuna, which said rare was a bit more like medium rare. The serviceless cash registers do not work in my opinion. There is no way to specify dietary restrictions like low or no salt, no cilantro. The prices are quite reasonable until you start hitting the upgrade button. Buyer beware. read more

We came here not knowing if it was a full-service or counter-service restaurant, but honestly we loved the setup. There are easy-to-use kiosks, and the staff is always nearby to answer any questions. You basically build your own meal -- plates, tacos, sides -- and even choose the seasoning and sauce for your protein. You get the choice of ordering at the kiosk or through a person. Since it was the first thing I saw walking in, I chose to order at the kiosk. My favorite go to order is: fried catfish, white rice & brussel sprouts. This order NEVER disappoints. Catfish is always fresh & cooked incredibly well. White rice is always cooked nice. I came to this location again with the same Meetup group in July 2025. I ordered the same fried catfish because it's so good I don't want to try anything else. And other restaurants don't have catfish. But this time the Cook made the mistake of serving the fried catfish on top of the sweet potato fries that he just made for me crispy, and it ruined the sweet potato fries he put underneath the big fish fillet. Made the sweet potato fries all soggy for which I paid $2.50 extra for. But I took it back and they made me another order of sweet potato fries and put in a separate container. To the Cook please do not serve the fish fillet on top of the sweet potato fries or anything else that's fried because you make the fries all soggy. Part of the pleasure of the sweet potato fries is it seems to have a light flour coating that has a delicate crunch when you bite into it, but underneath the fish fillet it got steamed and saturated all gushy and soggy.
