Ordering is super easy, they have self-service kiosks if you want to order on your own, or a staff member is available to help if you prefer. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and since the weather was so nice, my boyfriend and I decided to sit outside. I actually came here because I was scrolling through Instagram and saw an amazing promotion. If you purchase any drink, you get a free protein bowl that's normally around $13! You can choose from shrimp, chicken, or fish, served over your choice of rice or lettuce. It was such an incredible deal. Our total came out to only about $4 for a bowl and a drink, which was honestly hard to beat. The service was excellent from start to finish. The staff was incredibly friendly, and our food came out quickly, fresh, and piping hot. The rice was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor, and the entire bowl was absolutely delicious. I can definitely see myself ordering it again. The restaurant itself was also very clean, had a welcoming atmosphere, and the staff made the experience even better. I was feeling some refreshing and not too heavy on the stomach so we decided on California Fish Grill which this selection of food has still been on my mind. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic Glazed. We also got two Everything Protein Bowl which comes with salmon, swai, cajun shrimp and grilled chicken. As well as white rice, beans, diced tomatoes and parsley. I got mine without beans. We also got the Dynamite Fries which was super tasty. Dynamite Fries has a cheese sauce with chili and fresh herbs. Everything was light, but well seasoned. Very tasty and it's gonna be on my rotation of meals to eat now. The service was great. We ordered to go, but it was quick and easy. This place really surprised me in the best way. The food is not only tasty but also a bit on the healthier side depending what you get which I appreciate. I ordered the Cajun seared ahi tuna with brown rice, added avocado, and a house salad. It looked pretty simple at first but once I started eating it the flavors came together so well. When I'm craving fish and chips, I tend to visit California Fish Grill. While this is not my favorite in town, the fish is pretty good. The fish is always cooked fresh and the batter consistency is great. The fish is a nice white flaky fish and I've never been served anything but fresh fish. I'm really not much of a seafood eater and am very sensitive to old and smelly fish, which I have never experienced here. The prices, I feel are reasonable and worth what I am being served (most of the time). They also offer malt vinegar, lemon, and tartar sauce so I can dress my fish how I like. My only complaint regarding the fish is that there is very little consistency with portion size. Sometimes the fish pieces are large, maybe 6 inches long, other ties, they are 3 inches and very thin, where it wasn't worth the price. I am not a huge fan of the fries, they are standard boring frozen tasting fries, so I tend to opt for the zucchini or the brussel sprouts. The zucchini is usually well cooked, but sometimes the amount of rosemary can be overwhelming. My last order I noticed you could order them plain and it had very little rosemary which was awesome. The brussel sprouts are great, I order them without the tomato, but they are very tasty. I love the cajun butter on the side and usually dip my zucchini in the butter, it adds great flavor. I've never had an issue with service. All the employees have always been very friendly. Anytime you need more condiments or need utensils they are happy to provide what you need. I do wish they didn't have the kiosks to order. The employees really don't greet you, I think in hopes that you will order at the kiosk. I will be honest though, it can be a little difficult the first time and I've seen many people struggle. Only after people are struggling for a bit do they offer help. The restaurant is always very clean. There is plenty of parking. Overall it's a great place to stop in when craving fish. read more

Ive come here a few times and the food has not disappointed a single time. We have gotten something different everytime so that's saying something in my opinion. Today I got the shrimp skewers with brussel sprouts and rosemary zucchini and I am leaving with a happy belly. They have such a wide variety of fish and ways it's cooked, along with healthy options and more classic ones like fries. Their prices are hard to beat for the quality! I got the fried fish and shrimp basket which comes with 2 pieces of fish and 4 pieces of shrimp, and two sides which I chose fries and diced zucchini. Came here when family was in town as my family member is limited on what they are willing to eat. My husband has always wanted to try this place and we never had. Came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was not super busy. They have self serve kiosks (no option that I could see to order from an actual human being) which is frustrating. The staff that were behind the counter did not seem as if they wanted to engage with customers (we had questions about menu items, pairings etc) but since we were left on our own we just winged it. One person in our party got salmon with the zucchini and rosemary with a side salad $15.99 +.99 upcharge for salad. Kidlet got chicken strips $7.99, I got swai a la cart $5.99 with the sweet chili glaze and a side of balsamic glazed Brussels sprouts $5.50. Husband got cajun shrimp tacos $13.75 with zucchini and rosemary with a side of fries and a side of coconut shrimp. The person who ate salmon liked it and their salad. The zucchini and rosemary were oily and hard, fries were good, chicken strips were meh, swai was ok but the chili glaze was too sweet and not enough spice. Husband thought the tacos were too spicy and the coconut shrimp were good but overpriced. The brussels sprouts were very hard (I think they were undercooked). All of us drank water but my husband got a drink. They have some unique soda flavors which none of us really liked. Overall I thought the food was really overpriced and not anything great. This place would be good for people wanting a healthier to go option and are willing to spend some money on it. I would rather just buy fish and vegetables and season them myself. I treated my next door neighbors to eat here because they've never eaten at California Fish Grill. I first discovered California Fish Grill in Phoenix when the restaurant gave Yelp Elites a free meal. I thought the fried catfish was so reasonable so generous in portions and the sides delicious, I have been eating at California Fish Grill about three times a year. My next door neighbor's like fish tacos and so I brought them here. They honestly said they really liked their orders. But this was my first time at this location and I felt that the portion size was considerably smaller than the times I went to the Mission Valley or Phoenix locations, and I told my neighbors that. When I ordered my favorite catfish I didn't realize that I didn't order the fried catfish. But it was okay I didn't change my order because I wanted to try something different. However the Cajun catfish was not as tasty as the fried catfish. I felt like my neighbor who ordered salmon and swai because she never had swai before, got a small portion too. So when I went to the counter to get more tartar sauce I told the employee at the counter that I felt like the portions were real skimpy this time. She volunteered us to make us more and I said okay. They brought out entire new portions of just the fish. I told my next door neighbors that next time we could go to the Mission Valley one just for comparison. We live near UCSD so the Mission Valley location is further. I think we will go on Tuesday to have $3.50 fish tacos. I am a Rubio's $3 fish taco Tuesday person. I asked a solo diner at the next table what he ordered. He said he goes there at least once a week to eat because he agreed with me that the prices are really reasonable for fish. read more

This place is great! Eaten here multiple times and each time has not disappointed. The prices are fair for the type and amount of food you are getting. The place is clean and the employees have all been really nice. Plenty of seating in the restaurant as well as outside. The parking is plentiful even if the storefront is shared with a lot of other stores. Our usual go-to meal is of course the fish and chips [prices vary depending on the size]. Their fish & chips are really good, not too oily and definitely shareable. I hate kale- but I somehow I love their kale salad. it's actually reeeeallly good. There's a great mixture of whatever dressing they put on it so it doesn't seem like you're eating kale. Which is pretty much the only way to go when kale is involved. We've also tried their salmon bowl [$10] which was yummy! Only critique would be that the rice needs to be a little more seasoned or use different rice altogether. I don't normally review formula semi-fast food places, but, California Fish Grill is worth knowing about. I have had the Branzino twice. Once with just zucchini and rice and once adding clam chowder, Cesar salad and shrimp. That combo got split with my wife. Everything was top notch. Fish not overcooked, shrimp also perfectly cooked. But the clam chowder was the best surprise. It was actually terrific. Price for two including an 18% tip was $40. This is a place I will always go for great food. I do like California Fish Grill. I had the cajun salmon taco combo with the kale slaw and rice as my sides. I originally ordered beans, but they gave me rice. The salmon on the tacos were cooked nicely. The salmon was tender and not dry. It tasted great, but a little more of that cajun mix would have been good. The tacos also came with "roasted corn and a green goddess drizzle. All tacos are topped with cabbage mix, diced tomato, cilantro, and pickled onion." (California Fish Grill, 2024). Everything the tacos was delicious. The corn tortillas the tacos came on were very good, too. The tortillas were a lot better than I have had in many tacos shops around town. My husband and I came here for dinner last Tuesday night and it was a popular night! They were pretty busy but the place had a good flow and everyone was hustling. They are located where the old Boston Market used to be and if you haven't been there, it's easy to find with a lot of parking. When you walk in, you will see a giant menu on the wall in front of you and a few kiosks where you place your order yourself. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the fish and food! How hard can it be to taste test the oil with a little batch prior to sending out orders for the day/night? Recently came in after lunch. There is plenty of parking in the shopping center. It wasn't busy at this time which was about 1 PM. I love that we can order on a screen and the menu has pictures of each item. This was my first time here I wasn't sure what to get. I had one fish taco that was so good. I really enjoyed the red pickled onion, and it was so fresh it was nice and crispy, and you can see the steam coming off at the bite. I was really happy with this choice and will definitely come back for it next I ordered the Mediterranean Branzino bowl. Originally I had it for here, but I had to leave so they packaged it for me to go. That was very nice of them and they still packaged it very well from my plate. I ate it that evening for dinner at home, and it was amazing. The fish was great with the skin on The rice was plentiful. The zucchini did not have much flavor, but it tasted great still with the fish which was full of flavor, I feel like for the portion size. The pricing is fair. When I was invited to the Yelp Elite event the name of the California Fish Grill there was some things that had reminded me of the Anthonys restaurant and the food, they had been one thing that caught my eye. I wanted to go up and check out the new restaurant it sounded good when I saw the information on the restaurant the many dishes and when I saw the fish and shrimp the best of the many dishes and the combos. With the location that is located in the Clairmont area that is located over near the Balboa and Genesse Blvd that is one of the best places for the many restaurants that serve many things such a great steak and the ultimate in the Italian courses. Going to the location is one that had all of the great things with the outdoor dining and the Palm Trees which line the buildings and the large parking lot with many other stores are located nearby after dinner you have other things you can enjoy the evening. The Restaurant is one of the best to see a new restaurant that has the listing of the fish they which includes the bread and the farmed fish which has made some of the best dishes. The dish I had ordered when I had arrived the customer service, I had noticed was great the cashier was learning the registers and to see the food delivery people coming to pick up orders to get out to people homes connected to the Door Dash and the Grub Hub. With the many new restaurants that I have seen they do have some bumps in the road the manager that I saw is a great person at the front line. The most expensive entrees are sockeye salmon and ahi, which are only $17!
