The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, flaky and fresh on the inside, and the steak fries are my fave and always hits the spot. The fried shrimp and zucchini sticks are my husband go-to order. Portions are generous, everything came out hot and fresh, and the customer service is still A+. Love coming back to a longtime local favorite that stays consistent. I'm not a seafood person at all, but I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the fish and chips here were. I usually order the "2 Fish w/ Reg Chips," and the portion is big enough to share or split into 2 meals as the fish are fairly big. It also comes with a side of coleslaw. The food is made-to-order and comes out hot and fresh! The batter on the fish is incredibly crispy but manages to maintain an airiness to it at the same time, not greasy at all! The chips were also very crispy despite their thick cut. I've not had chips like these anywhere else! They were truly one of a kind. While the chips were well-seasoned, the fish could've used a lil salt, although it's nothing that can't be fixed with some tartar sauce. If you dine in, the owner will bring out a metal bucket with some napkins, a water bottle, and a bottle of cocktail sauce to accompany your meal. They also have a special bottle of sauce for the fish, but I can't seem to remember the name of it. The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming and remembers you and your order. In town for work and craving authentic fish n chips. Found Mr. Fish n Chips thanks to Yelp and we were on our way. Located in a plaza with several businesses, plan a few extra minutes to secure parking. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Mr. Sam, the owner. Really kind man, answered my questions as I was undecided on what to order. We decided on the three piece fish and chips with a side of jumbo shrimp and a two piece fish and chips and a side of coleslaw. The fish portions are big, we could have shared one meal...leftovers for the win! Steak fries and jumbo shrimp were delicious and the coleslaw could put KFC out of business. This is one of my top five places to go for Fish and Chips in San Diego. It is what they specialize in and they sure know how to do it right. The owner is nice and friendly and provides good service. It is a small restaurant and you have the option of eating inside or on the patio. No reservations and seating can be limited so we usually go after lunch rush hour or early dinner. The fish is always hot and crispy and the fries are yummy and well seasoned. What I like about the fish is it has a light batter. We order the cole slaw which complements the fish. They also offer shrimp, oyster, clams and chicken strips on the menu. I will have to try the shrimp one of these days and deviate from the yummy crispy fish. Mr. Fish and Chips is aptly named! I came on a Saturday afternoon with one of my friends who had been wanting to check it out. We walked in and proceeded to the ordering counter. We looked at the menu and the 2 piece seemed like it would be filling for one person. We each ordered that and a root beer. The owner behind the counter was efficient and multitasking as he went from frying fish to taking out orders and then back to frying. There's one longer table inside and another smaller one. There were more tables outside but we wanted to stay out of the wind. We waited at the longer table since the smaller one was taken. There were a few others who sat there too but as it seems most people order to go, they would receive their orders and leave. We shortly after got our food. I'm not normally a fan of tartar sauce but this one is worth trying! They also had condiments on the table like the vinegar and ketchup. My first impression when I took a bite was that it was slightly more breaded than I would like but as I ate it, it worked for me. It's hard to find a good fish and chip place nowadays. I live in the Bay Area though so I'd only be able to come here when I'm visiting. That being said, it was a lot of fish and fries and I was more than stuffed by the time I got up with a to go box of leftover fries. The fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The fries were also crispy and plentiful. The owner is active and would ask people if they needed boxes, open doors when he could to let people in and out and also delivered the food to each table. Parking is easy here as it's part of a strip mall. I suggest trying this place out if you are in the area and wanting fish and chips. I know I'll be back if I'm ever in the area! read more

My partner and I absolutely adore this place! It's a great mom and pop shop with loving, exciting people, tasty food, great portions, and a welcoming, warm, and cozy atmosphere. We always go for the fish and chips. The fish is a huge cut of cod, it's always crispy on the outside and nice, juicy, and flakey on the inside. The steak fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I love fries more on the crispy side so that's great for me! My partner loves the tartar sauce so we always get extra.
