After a great Friday lunch a month ago, took a friend with me for another Friday lunch on July 3. What a mistake. As soon as we sat down at the bar the server came over. I tried to order the same thing I had before but this time she didn't take the time to understand what my questions were. The woman taking the order was impatient, rude and condescending towards me. I tried to explain what I was trying to order and asked about a kind of pizza and her answer was straight up "I don't know!". She then went on basically reprimanding me and telling me "we don't do that!" Combined with "I told you" which she said to me at least 3 times. I finally said wait let's start over. Finally she realized SHE had misunderstood but did I get any apology? No, none at all. In the words of my lunch partner, "she really took your head off." We walked out and went to the Abby. I can't eat somewhere an employee is going to get so frustrated that they berate someone over chain pizza. I probably will never go back to CPK. And my experience is going straight to your Corporate office. It was so great the time before. This staff member needs to rethink if customer service is where they want to be, but they seemed pretty routine in how thet were acting to a customer. I left angry, embarrassed by how I let her treat me and shocked that someone would think their behavior is ok. How sad. read more

We have had some really good service here at the 2nd and PCH Market Place location of California Pizza Kitchen. Since they closed the Cerritos location, we've been coming here more often. We were a party of 11 so I called first to find out about their wait time and the host said he had a large table available and to come right away and he could seat us with no wait. Since we were just across the street at 2nd and PCH at the Whole Foods plaza, I told the host we would be there within fifteen minutes if he could hold it for us. As he did, because when we arrived, he took us straight to our table. That's the beginning of our excellent service for this evening. Our server Anthony came over and introduced himself and his trainee Deven. It really showed why Anthony was training because he is definitely an experienced server. For a large party he took care of all our orders well, our drinks kept getting refilled without really asking. Our orders came out with no issues. My sister who has several food allergies had no issues with all her specific modifications. Overall, this experience on just service alone was a 10/10. As for our food, everything tasted good and as expected. The CPK menu is very familiar to us, so nothing surprising as in an unexpected taste, but they delivered in a way that the food tasted as we hoped for and as we are used to, which is the reason we like this location. I have been to many establishments where the server could not keep up with the flow and even if we were a smaller party, the service we have received could not compare to the service we got from Anthony. It's been over 10 years since I've been to this CPK, or any for that matter. Tortilla spring rolls $14.99 were delicious and flavorful. My friend ordered a half Thai Crunch Salad $15.99 which was so big she took half home. My BBQ Chicken Pizza (add bacon and pineapple) was delicious but a whopping $23.49. Shannon was our server who was lovely, attentive and quick with the drink refills. The food came out fast and we were very happy with our choices. We will definitely return but I think I'll get a less expensive pizza next time. read more

Note to the marketing department. If you're going to put a picture of a dish on the cover of the menu, make sure when you serve it it's recognizable. Seriously, was it an off night or just the same old crap at CPK. No one goes here thinking it's going to be fine dining but they should be able to make their signature pizza. I am passing through the LA area on a trip, and met my Brother who lives in Pasadena, CA for dinner tonight. IMHO this place is "out of control". If I had to guess at it I would think that they just had a massive staff turnover. My Brother had called yesterday to make a reservation for 18:30 tonight. When my lady friend and I arrived before my Brother I was told that they do NOT take reservations? Our server (who I will NOT throw under the bus, by name) did not know what brands of Gin that they had, and had to go check before I ordered my Martini. FWIIW: Yes, they do have Bombay Sapphire Gin if anyone cares. BTW: Their website does NOT even list if they serve cocktails. I had to call this afternoon to ask. We placed our order for two different appetizers, then our entrees. Am I wrong in my assumption that the appetizers should have arrived at our table before our entrees? Our appetizer was cold. And the appetizer that my Brother and his other half ordered did not arrive until about five minutes after their pizza which was their entree. Takeout has been spotty at best, with customer service and food quality and quantity lacking. It's no wonder customer service is bad when the hostess asks the manager about changing a hundred dollar bill in front of the customer (me) and she gives him a dirty look, as if the customer is an inconvenience. My order today was extremely bland. No Parmesan cheese was offered or supplied, nor any red chili seasoning or anything else. Why wouldn't you offer such things before your customers walk out the door? And to top it all off, as I turned around with my bag in one hand and drink in the other, two employees loudly walked by me almost bumping into me, without saying excuse me or anything. I came in tonight for a simple takeout order and thought I'd also purchase a Black Friday gift card. Unfortunately, the staff had no idea about the promotion, and the CPK website was impossible to use. While waiting for my takeout, I ordered a beer and an appetizer. It took over 30 minutes just to receive the appetizer and bread, and after waiting more than an hour, I had to ask repeatedly just to get my takeout order. When I checked the bag, I realized one of my pizzas was missing--out of only two pizzas, an entrée, and a lunch salad. The only explanation I was given was that they were understaffed. This location has been consistently understaffed for 4-5 years, and the quality of service shows it. I'm tired of coming here. read more

My entire family enjoys this place. The thing I noticed right away is the freshness of the food. As soon as you taste the food it is very obvious. Monday and Tuesdays they have a selection of pizzas that are $10 each. My family has tried a few of their desserts and they are excellent too. The butter cake is one of their signature desserts and it is great. Right now they have the Mini Butter Cake Flight. We tried all three flavors. The two flavors that I highly recommend is the bacon, maple and the other is the strawberry, Oh it is awesome. They serve Haggen Daz ice cream which is excellent. A fundraiser lunch brought me and the family to CPK. Unfortunately, I had to wait 10 minutes for a table because they were understaffed when I arrived. Not a big deal. The host, server, and manager all were present and were very friendly and patient. I used to order CPK for lunch often when I was in the corporate world. Good to see their menu hasn't changed much since a decade ago. Also, all the flavors were just as good as they were since I last dined at a CPK 10 years ago. Great lunch and happy hour prices. First no around to seat us! Then our group of 5 got seated and it took us a while to just get water! Then we had to ask for a server, she was new and trying her best! Couldn't get our simple order correct! Then 20 minutes later our dinners came with all but one dinner! We asked and asked about the last dinner! Then we asked for the bill 2 times and she didn't know how to use the toast system to pay, she got the manager and he was lost! Didn't even know how to use their own system! The PCH Marina location of CPK has consistently poor service in the store and particularly if you order with Uber or other delivery service. I made the mistake of not changing the location of the store when I ordered tonight. My order consisted of three 1//2 Caesar salads with avocado, chicken, and shaved parmesan. I received three salads with little lettuce and an overload of shave parmesan to fill the void of the lettuce. There was avocado on only one salad. They didn't include any bread and only gave us one half-filled container of oil and herbs for dipping. They either lack competent management or have incompetent employees. read more

We had a hankering for some pizza so decided to give CPK a shot. We had a free pizza voucher with minimum purchase of $20. We opted for the Sicilian Pizza and Kung Pao pasta + side broccolini. We did curbside pick up. Our food came out super hot and fresh. We also got some complimentary rolls with olive oil to go with our food. The Sicilian Pizza was really good. We had no expectations so we were blown away by the quality. They loaded on the toppings and basil! The pizza was the right amount of saucy and cheesy. The crust had a nice bite to it. Very outstanding. As for the pasta. We wanted to try something unique so we went for the Kung Pao pasta. There was no protein in it but it had all of the Kung Pao ingredients; chili, green onions, peanuts, and Kung Pao sauce. Its a bit heavy but pretty tasty. Overall good takeout experience with CPK. Went to CPK for a fundraiser. We all ordered the special Chimichurri steak salad. It turned out that the dish was so popular that they had to thaw out more beef. Our server provided us with soups to tide us over. My tomato soup was delicious with just enough heat. My friend got the barley soup which he said was great as well. Then we got our steak salad. I'm disappointed that the tomatoes were frozen cold. The chimichurri sauce was creamy instead of oil based. It was Americanized. Think I will stick with pizza next time. Service was great. Our server I believe her name was Casse (not sure how the name is spelled) It was Farhers day and they were not that busy. My fiancé and I are frequent visitors to CPK because we crave their food often, and I also appreciate the convenient parking. However, our experiences have been inconsistent. This was our third year doing the Valentine's dinner, and our "heart"-shaped pizza arrived 30 minutes after our appetizer. Last time we visited in November, I had a $10 off coupon, but they refused to apply it, even though we spent over $50 and met the promotion's requirements. In September, we ordered the garlic cream pasta, and it was disappointingly watery. Despite these issues, we keep giving this location chances because it can be a hit or miss. Unfortunately, last night did not make for a special Valentine's Day. Service is always difficult--servers are hard to get ahold of, and they seem to be consistently short-staffed. My wife and I love the lunch specials they have during the week. There are many choices of pizza and occasionally they have special items. But we love the food, especially the bread when you get seated. Eva is our preferred server as she is always cheerful and provides excellent service. Bryan is always very helpful as well. We came on a random weekday for lunch. We walked into a fairly empty restaurant and someone eventually came to tell us it would be a few minutes before we could be seated. There were a few tables and apparently only one server, which is why we had to wait. When we were seated, we were seated in a booth towards the back which was nice. The restaurant appeared fairly clean. We were able to order both our food and drinks quickly, as we waited they brought out some very fresh bread, which was surprisingly good. Our entrees came and were both great. My only complaint was that the crust to topping ratio of the pizza could have been better. Pretty much half the pizza was crust. I frequent the Lakewood CPK, but when I was at 2nd and PCH on a rainy Sunday afternoon, I decided to give this Long Beach CPK a try. There are two CPK locations in Long Beach. One is at the Pike Outlets. The other is right here at Long Beach Marketplace just on the other side of PCH from 2nd and PCH. From the outside, it's not easy to tell where the Takeout counter is, but it's not at the main entrance. When I went through this main entrance, the hostess directed me to the other end of the restaurant. I had a Thank You card from my previous visit to the Lakewood location. If you're not familiar with these cards, it's a promotion where you get a card after placing an order, and on your visit, you ask for a CPK manager to open the card for you to reveal your prize. It could be as big as $50,000. It could be as small as 10% off your next order, which will be the case for three out of four Thank You cards. However, and I will repeat this, you *must* ask for a CPK manager to open the card for you because that is the rule. If you open it on your own, you don't get the prize inside, even if it's $50,000. Victoria was the manager who opened my card, and it was 10% off. I had a 20% off reward^ on my account, and this is where I noticed inconsistencies across different CPK locations. At the Lakewood location, the manager there who opened my card was happy to honor that card alongside a different 20% off reward I had back then, which I thought was a no no, but they were able to make it work. This time, Victoria said she wouldn't honor that. Now why in the world would the rules be different?? A definite head-scratcher if you ask me. Since the 20% off expired sooner, I wanted to defer the 10% off for a later time, and Victoria had to fill out a few lines on the opened card so that it would be eligible for redemption at any CPK...hopefully? lol And the inconsistencies don't end there. I also learned at this location, you can use multiple rewards in one transaction, which would be a no no if you tried to order online as it specifically says only 1 reward may be used. The other reward I had on my account was a $5 reward, which I got after accumulating 75 points from my past visits to the Lakewood location. When Luke, the cashier, mentioned that I could use both my 20% off and the $5 reward, I was surprised considering I couldn't use the Thank You card reward alongside the 20% off. This whole ordeal was just confusing, but since I spent less than what I expected to pay, I just went with it. What did I get? It took me a while to decide because I noticed a handful of the prices were higher than at Lakewood, but the California Club I remember had the same price. It also looked the most appealing to me at the time, so that's what I went with. I made this decision before Luke saw the $5 reward on my account, and if I had known I could have used both the $5 off and 20% off, I probably might have chosen differently. Oh well, I still wanted to try the California Club! When I asked Luke how long I'd have to wait, he estimated 15 minutes. It was more like 20 before he handed me my takeout bag, which included another Thank You card. The takeout bag also included a pizza box, complimentary bread, and a container of produce? What?! An unusual way to present a pizza to a customer! The produce included in the container was avocado, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and arugula. There was also a cup of bleu cheese dressing inside. However, they didn't include utensils, which I would have asked for had I known I'd be getting this container, so I had no choice but to dump everything (except the dressing) on top of the pizza, which didn't look pretty to say the least. I probably got more produce than if they had included it on the pizza, but I really wish I knew this beforehand. Otherwise, I could have eaten the produce as a salad lol. The ingredients tasted fresh and good just like how a CPK pizza should be, but it was a mess having to eat it that way, especially since the avocados were a little soft, so if I had touched them with my hands, they would have disintegrated pretty easily. Service wasn't bad, but nothing out of the ordinary, though. Among all the employees I witnessed that day, including the servers I observed while I was waiting for my pizza, I felt only the hostess was the most customer-centric; everyone else seemed kind of zapped and vapid, and I definitely do not think the rain outside would count as a valid excuse lol. If they really appreciated my business, I didn't detect that. Overall, it's not a bad CPK to go to if you're in the area, but since it's farther from me, I don't foresee a return visit. Who knows? Maybe if I order a California Veggie pizza, they would include the broccoli and mushrooms in a separate container as well, expecting me to dump them on the finished pizza pie. If you're going to do that, at least let me know beforehand! ^ I was immediately given another 20% reward after my purchase. Yay?! read more
