This was good but a bit underwhelming as I felt there wasn't enough cheese nor garlic. Mostly bread. We got a small size Half Heirloom Half Heritage deep dish pizza. I love they you can do half flavors here! This deep dish was soooo saucy and cheesy with a light yet crispy crust that was easy to bite through. Each bite had a crazy cheese pull. My favorite was the Heirloom because I enjoyed the veggies in the pizza, but my boyfriend liked the heritage more (tons of meat). Keep in mind that if you don't like tomatoes, this pizza is probably not for you because the tomato sauce is much thicker than a thin crust pizza. We got here at around 7PM on a Saturday. Beware that the deep dish takes a minimum of about 30 minutes to come out. Ours took 40 minutes. So when I went on my recent 36-hour golfing trip to Monterey,I only had two goals-To play golf two times and to eat high quality food. We had called in our order before we arrived and since we were taking pizza back to the group,we ordered two large deep dish pizzas. We ordered the Pepperoni Deep Dish ($38.75)-which basically features pepperoni and a crazy amount of cheese. We also ordered The Slider($38.75) which featured meatballs,mushrooms,onions,roasted garlic and a crazy amount of cheese. Each pizza was 12-inch size,smaller than I'm used to when ordering deep dish but with the high quality ingredients and elevated cooking techniques they used,it seemed like a fair price. Both pizzas were incredible tasting and choosing between them would be like picking between a Lambo or a Ferrari.Both were an amazing eating experience and both established a new standard for deep dish pizza for me. We ordered the deep dish, of course. To be warned, it does take 30mins, but no biggie for us! It's well worth the wait. This fresh, cheesy, deep dish really puts a FRESH take on it. The crust is crumbly and gritty(cornmeal on the bottom). The Sauce is a huge blast of garden tomatoes, literally tastes like you just picked it and get that good earthy taste. The Parmesan on adds that wonderful salty, aged depth to the stringy, fresh mozzarella! Then the Fresh Basil cuts through all of it with the Fresh, Minty, Garden , Earthy, BLAST! Deep-dish pizza, we've driven by a couple times and made it a point to come here. We wanted our kids to try deep-dish and only our oldest has had it a long time ago at Patxis. We came around 5:30 to avoid the crowds and were seated immediately, this is deep-dish so it takes about 45 minutes to eat cook after you place your order and we saw most tables getting a salad or appetizer but we opted for only pizza. I particularly loved their blend of tomato sauce, it had nice chunks in it and was an appealing vibrant red color. The crust was OK, it want that expected flaky and airy bite but it was a bit hard, especially the outer edge that touches the pan. Heirloom Pizza: spinach, bacon, mushrooms, onions, fresh garlic, ricotta, gorgonzola. Their signature, unfortunately for us the Gorgonzola was quite heavy handed and overpowering. This one the kids ate small pieces of but my wife and I ate the most, our breath suffered later for it. We were thinking of subbing in mozzarella but figured they had worked the ratios and tweaked the Gorgonzola to be perfect but it was still too strong for us. New Original: sausage, onions, mushrooms, red bells. This one the whole family loved and every slice was eaten. Would repeat and I would say if the crust was better it would be competitive in Chicago. By the time our pizza came it was fully packed and we ran out of water, we asked for a new bottle and it never came. Really good pizza - we ordered take-out so cannot review service or ambiance, but the pizza was worth the longer drive. Got the deep dish which was really good, regular pizza, and a gluten free/ dairy free cheese pizza which was also very satisfying. My only recommendation is to have a clearer process for pick up for people who have ordered and paid ahead of time. The host/ cashier tried to make us wait in a very long line that included a lot of people waiting for inside seating, but that wouldn't make any sense because it literally took him 1 minute to turn around and hand us our pizzas. When I asked the host if I had to stand in line, he said yes, but the woman at the front of the line who was waiting to be seated said no, you should go in front of us because it doesn't make sense to wait for inside seating you don't want. I haven't had deep dish pizza with ingredients that fresh tasting, ever. Our favorite deep dish in the Bay is Zachary's, but other places we've tried -- Patxi's, Little Star, etc -- just don't reach the same level of flavor and freshness. The quality of ingredients reminded me of Cheeseboard in Berkeley. Heirloom Pizza blew me away with the flavor and freshness of its pizza; the tomatoes used in the sauce tasted like they had been harvested and bought from a local farmers market that week. Our waitress was super nice and helpfully told us that any of the thin crust and deep dish pizzas could be transferred to a different style (so if you see a thin crust pizza you like, you can get it as a deep dish instead etc). We ended up getting a large deep dish with half Heirloom and half New Original. Of the two pizzas, I preferred the Heirloom, and even though I'm not normally a big blue cheese or Gorgonzola fan, I didn't mind it too much in this and it didn't totally overpower the pizza. It also has spinach and mushroom, which are my two favorite deep dish ingredients and remind me of the one at Zachary's in Berkeley (my gold standard for deep dish). The New Original was good too (my husband actually preferred this one), but I just felt like the Heirloom pizza was more flavorful of the two. I might ask to leave out the Gorgonzola next time though. Note that the size is a little smaller than we're used to: the large we ordered is about as big as the medium at Zachary's and our family of five (2 adults and 3 kids) polished it off, along with a Caesar salad. So glad we found this gem! Not many places do deep dish well, but Heirloom's was excellent. We'll be back the next time we're in town! read more

I hate leaving reviews under 3 stars, but unfortunately I can't justify giving anything more than 2. First, we were quoted wait time 30 minutes, but it took over an hour to get seated. We got there at 530 before the full rush, but I guess finding a table for a group of 6 was harder in a small restaurant. After finally getting seated and ordering (another 10 minutes), it took 40 minutes just to get 2 appetizers. Finally after almost an hour after being sat, we got our pizza, which was ok but I wasn't that impressed. The flavors were good but the crust was mediocre at best. The thin crust pizza was really crunchy, I prefer a softer and chewier dough. For the deep dish, the crust was also on the crunchy and dry side and wasn't buttery and flaky like a Chicago style deep dish should be. The line and wait made us think the place would be amazing and worth the wait, but considering it took 2.5 hours from putting our name down to finishing, I am pretty disappointed. Maybe it was an off night and they were extra busy because of all the people in town for the half marathon race, but I expected much better for a place with the high reviews and how busy it was. read more

I went to get pizza here with my grandmother and my dad after a night out a few nights ago. Staff were very kind getting my grandmother and us a nice table quickly. I ordered a rootbeer and customized my own small (2-3 people) thin crust with pepperoni, Kalamata, and sausage. My dad got something with pineapple and sausage(I forgot the rest but it was meant to be spicy and sweet) and my grandmother got something with pear and bacon. My rootbeer was a brand I'd never had before and it was tasty. Everyone liked our pizza, my grandmother said hers was similar to one that she had in SF with the same type of profile. She actually kept talking about it after we had left about how great it was and how it was one of the best pizzas she'd ever had. And in her lifetime she has been a lot of different places, including internationally. I thought mine had excellent flavor. A small is for 2-3 people but I personally felt like mine was very filling and was able to take some back to where we stayed and have it for lunch the day after. The small does not feel like you're getting ripped off. A lot of people say this is the best pizza in the area and while I'm not local and can't speak to other pizza spots nearby, this set an extremely high bar. read more
