We ended up going to Burlingame that same day so I could try it out for myself. Metered street parking at and located in downtown Burlingame, Del' Oliva is quaint and offers gourmet olive oils and vinegars. Their products are fresh and their customer service is top tier. Immediately welcomed upon entering by the owners and shared with us a few samples and combinations of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars on tap. You can taste the fruits in their vinegars. Fantastic variations that would elevate your dishes. I picked up a lime infused olive oil and pear white balsamic vinegar. Overall, would recommend checking out for all foodies and home cooks!

The owner took his time to ask about our needs and preferences and gave us a few tastings of things he thought we would like and everything he gave us was spot on. I came in wanting to get one bottle of olive oil but ended up with 3 olive oils and 1 balsamic and I have no regrets. I had my two kids with me as well and he was very kind to them, giving them cookie samples and making them an olive/balsamic blend that tasted just like raspberry chocolate which they loved. Definitely a place to come to for your olive oil needs!

Inside the market is a modestly lit establishment, but it works well for what they are trying to achieve. The market sells a wide variety of commodities and fresh produce; as well as items from other countries. The service was nice and friendly. I will always continue to come back to this outstanding fresh produce market.

Their candies/chocolates/cookies/breads are all very good in selections and prices. Amazing. Affordable. Some items are much cheaper than other places. It's very convenient and successful in the area on Broadway. Fruits and vegetables do stand out. It felt like I'm not in the U.S. for a moment after browsing the aisles. Fresh fresh fresh! All items looked good. Not sure if owner is Russian or European, but it's a unique place for visitors. These markets are more popular in streets of Paris, France and other parts of Europe. I loved the fruit prices and wide selections/so clean and organized with passionate employees enjoying their jobs. Cashier was quick and experienced. Box of $6.99 Russian coconut almond candy was very strong in flavor and coconut/nice! The box itself was beautiful too. Tempting. Chocolates were all outstanding from the box covers. Most quality goodies can be found for under $10 per box/pack. Under $15 range is pretty decent for larger items. Not bad for a good find on Valentine's Day. I'll revisit next time. Great impression so far.

They also offer a few Hawaiian shirts and knickknacks but what caught my eye was a small table laden with colorful Indian SILK SCARVES!!!! I came away with a bag of GARLIC PEAS (IT WAS GARLIC!) to snack on, bag of BULGUR WHEAT to try cooking at home, and a beautify lavender/gray SILK SCARF! The scarf was 100% silk and priced at $14.95. Again, you have got to check out the spices if you do a lot of Indian, Southeast Asian or South Pacific cooking. Parking is metered on the street where you pay at a standing kiosk. Mind your time parked there and you'll be fine. Apparently, though not by personal experience, their ticketing can be aggressive. See you there!

It has a reputation for being expensive, but I have found plenty of things there that are genuinely worth buying. Some of my regular favorites are Fiscalini habanero cheese, Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee, Mary's organic chicken drumsticks, the Whole Foods jalapeño hummus, cherry or mixed berry pie, the field greens salad with goat cheese, and the Organicgirl clamshells. This is the kind of store where I go in for one thing and somehow leave with cheese, pie, hummus, salad greens, and a very specific coffee. I am also a big fan of their pre-made salads and family meals when I need dinner without the cooking. My only complaint is that the sides included with the family meals can be underwhelming. The green beans, in particular, are impressively bad. I would much rather pay the $35 and mix and match the main dish with sides we will actually enjoy than pay less and bring home vegetables nobody wants to eat. Recently, I have also noticed that the dessert and prepared-food sections often have items marked 50% off when they need to be eaten that day or by the next day. If you are already looking for a same-day meal or dessert, that can be a really good option. Between the weekly sales, excellent meats and cheeses, good pies, and the convenience of the prepared-food section, Whole Foods is one of those stores that rewards people who pay attention. Just skip the green beans.
