Decided to try this place since the line at Salt and Straw was hella long and wasn't disappointed. They may have had a line here as well, but the line was quickly even though there was a lot of Gelato to choose from and thankfully allow samples. We decided to get a cup of the Green Tea and Cardamon Gelato after trying a few. Both had good, strong flavors that were thankfully not too sweet. Hmmm, love gelato! My husband and I had just had dinner in the area and decided we wanted to get a cold treat instead of spending money on a fancy dessert item. We walked down the street to Caffe Stellato where there was a line out the door. There are several workers working alongside one another so the line moved quickly, we only had to wait 5 minutes or so. They have over 60 gelato flavors to choose from and the menu is conveniently posted by the door so you can peruse your choices while you're waiting to be served. I had set my mind on getting the horchata flavor but unfortunately, was told they were out. My husband and I ended up splitting the lemon cookie which was amazing. Fresh chunks of actual lemon cookie were mixed into the gelato itself so the crisp, citrus flavor really shone through. I'm already thinking about what I want to try on my next visit! Cute gelato and sandwich deli spot! We came here after work on Friday around 7pm. It was packed with students. To order sandwiches, you have to go to the back counter and order there then go to the register to pay. It was a bit confusing when we got there but the employees were helpful. We ordered two sandwiches and gelato: Siciliano with no cheese (3/5): it was a good sandwich. There was a good amount of meat, very flavorful meat. The sandwich could have benefited from more balsamic vinegar and fresher bread. Stellato Special (3/5): decent sandwich Gelato (4/5): gelato was good, we got the pistachio flavor. It was interesting how sticky it was since they don't add air to the gelato. The sandwich guy (who also helped us at the gelato) wasn't fluent in English so we had a hard time asking what gelato flavors were dairy-free. He was a very nice guy though who helped us remake the Siciliano sandwich when he realized he accidentally put cheese in it the first time. Overall, adorable place. Gelato review only: I really enjoyed their gelato. We tried three flavors. I liked their spumoni and pistachio flavors! Both were super thick and creamy and on a day that it was 50°F outside, it melted super slowly which was great. This location can get busy on a hot day, but the line moves quickly. -Pistachio gelato (5/5) - this flavor is really so wonderful and the quality of gelato is just like Italy's. A chance encounter with a friendly Jordanian led me to this sweets shop. He told me that he worked here and that they had a wide variety of vegan flavors. I had already received a recommendation by my cousin to check out this area in Burlingame because of the lively but casual shopping atmosphere. The Caffe Stellato is an unassuming little cafe/deli/grocery store. They literally have one tiny table and two chairs for customers. Service was excellent, but I only got one cup of gelato. Found this hidden gem by total chance after exiting five little monkey toy store. Nice hot day so I like looked up ice cream on yelp only to look ok up and see the front of this store calling my name with visible pictures of scooped ice cream ( btw totally didn't see it in the top 5 list of shops advertised on YELP for me. I'm so glad I like looked up vs just following the pages suggested. Store is small and quaint located on Burlingame Ave toward the train station side. Staff was super friendly upon entering the store. They gave me time to peruse the menu and the cases and were kind enough to allow me to try samples ( made my mind up after 2). The female employee was super sweet to make suggestions on what to pair and what is popular and tasty. As strange as my pairing looks it complimented very well with each other to balance sweetness and citrusy flavors. While I usually do not do well with dairy, I would make an exception for the gelato at Caffe Stellato. I've had this place on my bucket list for quite some time, but it wasn't until yesterday that my boyfriend and I were finally able to try some of their gelato. (Note: they also sell Italian sandwiches, and their shop is filled with really cool sweets and candies!) Their gelato case had tons of flavors - both conventional and unique (think halo halo, ube, and black sesame). What I love is that Caffe Stellato also has a wide selection of vegan/dairy-free flavors! Customers are only allowed 2 samples. While I wish they allowed more, 2 samples was enough for us to decide on their espresso flavor. This was a very memorable gelato. The espresso was the star of the show. We only needed to share a scoop to feel really satisfied. My only criticism is to offer more samples! But overall a really tasty gelato shop. read more

This is a cool deli located in Burlingame. It does feel a little old timey inside. They have a sandwich station as well as a gelato station. I will have to try the gelato at another time! We ordered a hot Mafioso sandwich and brought it back to eat at home. I overall thought the sandwich was pretty good. The ingredients were: "Prosciutto di Parma, turkey, Italian mortadella and (pancetta) bacon with works." The quality of the ingredients felt fresh and high quality and the bread tasted good too. The sandwich was a little on the pricey side ($17+tax/any tip) but it was large enough to feed two people. I would come back to try their other sandwiches and gelato. read more

Since I usually go for something tart and not too sweet, I settled on a single scoop of passion fruit sorbet, passion fruit being my go-to choice for anything if it's offered! It didn't disappoint. It was smooth and tart and not too sweet. They offer food, too. There's a whole sandwich or food menu board in the back of the store and there was a refrigerated case that contained single servings of some of Dianda's pastries. There are few foods I enjoy more than a fresh deli sandwich, and I was quite pleased with the sandwiches at Cafe Stellato! Cafe Stellato is a very cute cafe that greets you with a display of fantastic looking gelato (which I will be trying next time I come in!). But there are also a plethora of sandwich options available to those who make their way in toward the back of the cafe. I ordered the Stellato Special with the works, and my partner ordered the Alpino. The combination of turkey, artichoke, and sun dried tomatoes were delicious, and the ingredients all tasted very fresh. When asked, I opted for the spicy calabrese spread, though I was slightly disappointed that there was no real spice to it. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the Alpino as well, and commented multiple times on how tasty the pancetta (Italian bacon) was! Our order was taken very quickly, and the sandwiches were prepared nice and quickly. Everyone working there was friendly and efficient. I will definitely be coming back to eat my way through more of their sandwich menu. And next time, I think I'll be topping it off with some of that great looking gelato! read more

This seems to be a pretty new addition here, it was here for ages as purely a gelato shop, but now they're a deli as well! Stopped by and got a tuna sandwich to go, and truth is I didn't have high hopes, e.g. I got my sandwich within just a couple of minutes after a teenager working behind the station seemed to slap it together in speedy time. After I got it home, I was so so humbled and stunned at how awesome and tasty it was, super balanced condiments and flavors, fresh, everything as I'd asked on dutch crunch. The price is right, an amwesome place with reasonable prices for a sandwich to go plus they have a huge variety of high quality gelatos on the cone or cups. The customer service efficient and frendly. There's a few tables to sit outside or take home. Parking can be tough, especially on weekends, despite the many nearby parking garages. read more
