This is a great spot for a large group of friends to meet up. The restaurant runs on counter service and I feel like when you have a big group and everybody wants a separate check, this is the perfect set up. I ordered a green corn tamale and tortilla soup. Lunch on the east side of town. I was out running errands and was really wanting Mexican food so I came here. Big props on being able to sit at the bar and order, where I ran into one of my former students. The bartender was great took care of me and made suggestions. I ended up with a chili relleno and a Sonoran hotdog with rice and beans and a couple of tortillas. I also had the jamica mixed with lemonade. This spot is a gem in Tucson. Was the first few restaurants I had tried about 4 years ago. And still amazing till this day! I switch up what I've order each time. And everything on their menu is delicious! I'm not what sure what day or time is their happy hour special for their house margaritas. When I went they were 2/$5 and they serve them into little mason jars with handles. For $5, you'll definitely have a fun dinner! I really loved the menu drawn on the wall as you walk in, but that was kind of the highlight of my experience. Service was good, but the food really did not stand out to me at all. I got the 2 item combo with chili relleno and a chicken enchilada, with posole as the side. Everything tasted okay, but not anything incredible. The chile relleno was pretty flavorless, small, and had no variety of textures or flavors, and the chicken enchilada just had a bunch of plainly-cooked chicken on the inside of it, which was a bit dry. The enchilada sauce was bland, with only a mild tomato flavor, rather than being salty, savory, and spicy. The meat in the posole was tender and tasty, at least. But overall, this meal was not well-seasoned, and there wasn't even a hint of spice or heat to anything. It was also a bit more expensive than many other places around town that have better Mexican food in larger portions. read more

I frequent Calle Tepa about once every other month. Their food is always fresh and I have never been disappointed. The staff are always friendly and the service is excellent. They do have a nominal charge for chips, but their fresh salsa bar is worth it. They do offer free refills on the chips, which they do not always notify the customers about. Seems like they could make the chips complimentary with a purchase. The prices are compatible with other restaurants. So you won't walk out feeling like you received a good value, but you will walk out feeling like you just had a great meal. Indoor and patio dining are available. Happy hour is 3-6 M-F, and during this time they do have some pretty good deals on drinks. read more

This has always been one of my go to spots in Tucson for a quick, delicious, sit down meal. I love that you order at the counter and they bring it out to you, this allows for a shorter wait time to get food. My 7 year old son said, "This place is so good and so fast" which about sums up my review. It was $65 for 5 people to eat and get drinks which is not bad. Quesabirria! More like yum yum wow wow! I love a good salsa bar to start a meal and they did impress with many options each as good as the last. As you walk in, the menu is painted in the wall and you are greeted by a friendly staff. There is fast casual walk up counter or full service in the bar. Calle Tepa claims is serves "street tacos" but that is not the case. I've had many street tacos in Tucson, Nogales, Phoenix, San Diego, L.A. and Chicago. What they serve is not a "street taco" - it is a huge mass of protein in a middling tortilla. If you are 25 yrs. old and weigh 250 it might be a "street taco". Delivered with little care as they get your money up-front. I call this establishment Calle Tepid now. Staff is OK but not helpful. No one told us where the Salsa Bar was located - no chips or salsa delivered to our table. Food - Tacos - was below average - and not up to par with a food truck. More of a Bar than a food purveyor. Lack of service and very average food is why I will not be back - ever. More a bar than a food destination. read more

6 Years running, this is my GO TO place for Mexican style eats! They excel at getting fresh, hot food to your table in minutes. Wanna sit in the back area and grab a brewski, go for it. Coming in with groups? No problem. During Covid, they pushed the boundaries on getting food out by Door Dash and other services. You get a serious meal here that is very tasty. Self serve condiment bar for salsa and other treats. The restaurant always smells sanitary and the entire staff literally never rest. We picked this place because it's dog friendly and we were traveling with our dog. I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was good, the staff so sweet, and the menu has a little bit of everything. I loved the chicken tortilla soup and the barbacoa. I also had a chile relleno which was good. I don't venture to the east side as often anymore but when I do I'm always up to stop at Calle Tepa to chaw down on some tacos. I haven't tasted their chips and salsa cause it's extra. I had never been to this place before but a friend suggested meeting here for a business meeting. We sat in the back where it is full service and I have to admit that the carne asada tacos were absolutely world class! Not only were they delicious, they were loaded with meat! Take out review: I called in on a cold day to order some soup. I got pozole, calabacitas, chips and salsa. When the cashier was taking my order, she was polite and prompt. She told me my order would be ready in 15 minutes but I was already on my way. I arrived in under 10 minutes from when we hung up and everything was ready! I loved that the orders were laid out on a takeout counter with number and receipt attached so there was no waiting to get my order. The pozole was delicious and a little spicy, it came with all the toppings you could want on the side. The sala was tasty and the chips were fresh. The calabacitas were good too, just a little plain. A great variety of food available, from tostaditas (nachos) to full-size dinner portion (enchilladas with rice and beans). Being it was my first time in Tucson, I couldn't pass up on tasting the Sonoran Dog--bacon wrapped hot dog inside a toasted bun, towered by pico de gallo, pinto beans, with a touch of mayo and mustard. One word--AMAZING!!! I'd probably could've eaten two more of these but I'm glad I went with the hearty filled Tortilla soup, generously filled with chicken chunks, tortilla, avocado, and cheese! The staff was very informative and helpful in deciding options that would go well with the Sonoran Dog instead of a full portion dinner. My wife and I are always on the hunt for good food. Since we live in a rural area of Pima county, we like to find new places when we are in Tucson. This time we were driving and saw Calle Tepa. We decided to try it out. When you walk in it feels kinda like a fast food place, but the quality is not fast food! You order at the counter, they give you a number and a few minutes later they bring your food. I ordered some carne asada tacos and one chorizo taco. They were great! They come with beans and rice. My wife ordered the asada tacos as well. We realized after we ordered that they have a bar in the back. They also do full service there. You can order drinks and food. No contact pick up done right! The restaurant is doing a fabulous job with the COVID19 takeout only challenge. Upon entry, there's a sign directing where to order and where to pick up. The pick up table clearly lists tablet order numbers, Grubhub or Door Dash orders. Then, everyone exits through the patio. No human contact at all and everything is orderly. The restaurant is a master in social distancing! Food is super delicious. The grilled burrito is hugh, stuffed with your choice of meat, rice and beans.
