Been years since I've been here, and now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long! Mi Nidito is a Tucson legend, famous for the celebrity photos of notable celebrities who have visited through the years and of course for the food that brought them here. It's colorful, and welcoming. The service was quick and friendly. Of course the chips and homemade salsa were on the table as we sat down. Our waitress was happy to take our order and she was able to make helpful suggestions about the menu. I had the Burro Deluxe and I was overwhelmed by the size of it. The burro was covered in cheese sauce and it was literally bigger than my shoes! The photo doesn't do it justice. I managed to eat 1/3 of it and the waitstaff graciously provided to go boxes to allow me to eat it for the rest of the week!!! It was great fun looking at the celebrity photos and watching all the massive food plates being delivered. Truly a great experience and glad I returned to Mi Nidito! I will be back soon. read more

This restaurant had a classic environment and decorations. I got to eat chicken enchiladas and the chimichanga both were cooked well and had a yummy taste. This restaurant has a classic Mexican restaurant vibe and the service was excellent. The only reason I rated it as I did is because Tucson has a variety of Mexican restaurants with different qualities. I would definitely return to this restaurant again. This place is a gem! It's been around forever- my best friend said her family has been coming here for years and they love it. The cheese crisp with carne seca was really tasty- I've never had anything like it before. I honestly couldn't decide what to get for dinner because there were so many options. I finally opted for the #1 combo because I figured there was a reason it was #1. It did not disappoint! There was a beef tamale, a bean toastada, a chile relleno, and a cheese enchilada. It was so good and honestly two people could have shared this generous portion! The ambiance was cozy and traditional. Recently went to Mi Nidito and had a great experience! I'm visiting Tucson and was looking for a place with chimichangas, one of the city's most iconic dishes, and stumbled upon this spot. Even on a weekday evening, there was a 15-minute wait, but the time passed quickly as we looked at photos of the famous figures who've dined here over the years and admired the decor. Once seated, we enjoyed complimentary chips and salsa while our incredibly sweet waitress took our order for a Birria Chimichanga and the President's Plate. When the food arrived, it was easy to see why this is the spot everyone visits. The chimichanga was perfectly crispy and packed with flavorful birria in every bite, while the President's Plate, the same dish Bill Clinton ordered on 2/25/1999, included five items: a bean tostada, a birria taco, a chile relleno, a chicken enchilada, and a beef tamale. Each one was distinct and delicious, and it was fun sampling everything. Even though we were hungry, one of these dishes could've easily been shared between the two of us, so we ended up with plenty of leftovers. We also ordered a horchata, which tasted like a smooth and creamy snickerdoodle in drink form. So glad we checked this place out, and it'll definitely be a regular stop whenever I'm back! read more

So, went to a different restaurant in Tucson and the people at table next to us recommended this restaurant to try. Sharing pix of the other restaurant at work and one of my co workers mentioned Mi Nidito to try like the couple at the other restaurant. At this point my curiosity was peaked. Happened to be a long day last Friday so driving relaxes me. Took that nice drive from Phoenix to Tucson. So the winners the Salsa is bomb good solid flavorful traditional Mexican salsa. The Beans are food crack, honestly the best part of my meal and the rice nice strong second. The okay was the green Chili it didn't wow me it was decent. There is a place here in Phoenix called Rito's and hands down best green chili burritos and chimichangas. If it can't hit that mark then it will always be an okay. The service was 5 star. I say it's good solid Mexican food. I will be coming back with a friend as she was with me when the couple recommend Mi Nidito. She wants to try next time I will go for the flautas as their guacamole was pretty good. read more

We really lucked out getting seated right away. I'm glad to knock this iconic restaurant off my bucket list. We arrived on Friday, July 18th, 2025 at 2:40pm. There were still some spots open in the southern parking lot, so we walked in, asked for a table for two, and were promptly seated in the rear. It took our eyes a few minutes to get used to the dim lighting. Paco served us chips, salsa and lemon water and Ana took our order. By 3pm the restaurant was at full capacity. Despite this, the noise never got too loud. I had chicken enchiladas and my friend had the Nachos. Our meal came out promptly. My enchiladas were smothered in a fine red sauce and was well-spiced. The chicken was cut into small cubes. It didn't come with rice and beans but you can order both as extra sides. The portion was more than filling. My friend liked his Nachos and took the leftovers home. Here is his input: "They were perhaps the best nachos I've ever eaten! I loved the way they layered cheese and salsa between the chip layers, usually the cheese and salsa is just piled on top. I also liked the generous portions of cream cheese and guacamole on top. Yum yum gimme sum!!!" We have no complaints. The ambiance felt authentic with beautiful artwork along all the walls and photos of famous customers (Bill Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Senator Kelly and his wife Gabby are just a few, plus many famous Mexican singers). Service was excellent. Our fresh chips and salsa were refilled once and the water glasses were always topped off without asking. I can see why this place is so popular. We were visiting Tucson and looking for a good Mexican restaurant for lunch. This is that place! I ordered the #3 and it was a full plate. The taco was great - crispy shell and tasty shredded beef. The cheese enchilada was great. The beans were some of the best I've ever had. The tamale was so good! I usually don't get tamales in restaurants because they're always disappointing - plus my wife makes them at home every Christmas so I'm spoiled - but not this time. It was full of meat, the masa was perfect and it was covered in a red sauce. The only reason I didn't clean my plate is because there was so much food and I was full. We took our leftovers home to Phoenix in a cooler. Service was good and prices are reasonable. I liked the decor as well. We always make this a must stop when in Tucson. Has excellent margaritas and I love the burros and my husband loves the chimichangas. The salsa and chips are delicious and the cheese crisp is a solid appetizer. Two parking lots on either side with 15-20 spaces available. No reservations are taken so at five pm or later there can be a wait but you can order drinks while you wait. Service is prompt and usually at lead two people waiting in you. On my third attempt here I didn't have to wait over an hour. It was a Sunday evening on a long weekend and we wait 20 min. I spent the time looking at all the celebrities on the walls. Their biggest celebrity is former President Bill Clinton. There is a presidential table marked where you large party can sit too. The ambiance is great here. Colorful art snd tiles on the walls. Definitely had a great Mexican vibe going on. After being seated we got our chips but no salsa. I found that strange. I was using a bottle of hot sauce on the table which is a bit of foreshadowing. A short time later our waitress came out. She noticed the missing salsa and got some for us. We had questions on the menu about if dishes came with beans and rice. She answered what you see odd what you get. I can see she was tired and overworked probably, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. She did provide great service filling up our water and replenishing our chips. Note: that you only get one refill on chips before they charge you $0.75. I ordered the three chicken enchiladas and was able to get my request for half green and half red sauce accommodated. My friend really wanted a burrito with avocado and beans and she was able to do that request. The food didn't take that long before it arrive, but the problem was mostly with the food itself. My enchiladas were bland. Moist, but bland. I had to dump the bottle of their Trappeys hot sauce to give it some flavor. My friend's burrito had beans in it but it was so dry. I've had better tasting food at other restaurants unfortunately and this place, I'm told, is the best. There used to be also a 3% service charge on the bill which I couldn't figure out. It wasn't a big deal but no idea why it was there. We were only a party of two and didn't split any dishes. Weird. A side note, if you pay in cash, then you save a 3% credit card processing fee. I love enchiladas. I live for it and it's my go to order and my benchmark as to whether the restaurant is good or not. I mean, the sauce, the tortilla - is it homemade, the chicken and cheese mix, is there salad? It's a delicate balance to get it all right and get it all delicious on a plate. Well I can tell you, I really really like the enchiladas here. It's almost perfect. If there was just more sauce it would be perfect. Honestly, my experience at this restaurant was not good, they brought chips and salsa to the table, myself, and my grandson tried it. The salsa was flavorless, it was like you could drink it as tomato juice, then the cheese crisps showed up, burned on the bottom and very light on cheese and very little flavor.. I ordered the president plate and what a letdown, this food was comparable to Taco Bell. In my opinion, definitely the worst Mexican food I've ever had in my life and will not be returning ever. Haven't been here in years and came with a friend for dinner. I was so excited to eat I forgot pics! Chips and salsa are yummy. The chips are warm and the salsa is very spicy and flavorful. We got the cheese tostada and it was ok but the cheese was rubbery and thick, and it didn't stick on the tortilla, so that was very odd. I got the #1 combo, beans were YUM, tamale was really good and I liked the enchilada too. Wasn't a fan of the breading on the rellano and the cheese was also rubbery. Here in Tucson for a medical conference and this place was recommended by a friend as it was made famous by former President Bill Clinton's visit where one of their specialties bears his name on the menu. This place did no disappoint at all. Love the vibe of this place but the food was legit. Got the beef soup and it was homey and delicious. It tasted so good even in triple digit weather. While attending Tucson Navy Week, it was recommended that I visit Mi Nidito, and it did not disappoint. Typically reservations are not allowed, however, the restaurant went out of their way to make accommodations for my group at the request of an amazing colleague. The food was absolutely delicious! I enjoyed the chicken enchiladas with the green sauce. I would say that the only downside would be that I couldn't finish it all! Came here on a recent golf trip with my best bud, who lives in the area. He said we gotta try this place as it was made famous by a former president (amongst others). I got off the plane and we headed straight there. The wait was not terribly long and we settled in to our booth with chips and salsa. I ordered the President's Plate (which Bill Clinton's famous meal) made up of a sampler style platter including a bean tostada, birria taco, chile relleno, chicken enchilada and a beef tamale. Considering we came on a Sunday afternoon, parking was full and the waiting room is packed, the wait was not too bad. Dining room is full. I think it was the perfect timing, people are done with lunch and half way into dinner time. We were seated and waited right away. Our server was very attentive, although not on the sweet side. Rich in history going 72 years strong with the original family selling this cute place in February of 2024. The food was classic Mexican food with no frills here. You wont find many regional dishes here. Just the basics to keep it simple and good. Love the ambiance with lots of character and soul reflected through the years. The service was fast and efficient. Before a U of A game this is Wildcat country no doubt! I like it. But I didn't fall in love with the place. It's not you El Nidito it's me . Even at 4:30 there was a 30 minute wait, which considering the food quality I was quite baffled. Heard that usually the wait is even more than that. I ordered the Nopalitos plate and it was okay, I would say that it was yummy while I was hungry but nothing to write home about. Service was really slow and even when I clearly expressed we were in a rush towards the end, no response was given. We ended up having to pack our food to go almost as soon as it was brought to the table since it took so long. I will say that they were pretty attentive with refilling chips and salsa, though the menu says only the first two servings are free. The food is great. Getting it to the table is not. We walked in on a Saturday at 12:30pm, so it could have been busy, but it wasn't. There were plenty of parking spots available. Sadly if you have passengers you'll want to let them out first, then park. The parking slots are so narrow they won't pass code. Inside there were tables a plenty and we were sat immediately. Nobody asked about our drink or appetizer order. Twelve minutes later a guy (not our server) came to ask about those drinks. We discussed a frozen margarita no sweet&sour but they use a mix (cheap restaurants do this... worse than well drinks) and I also asked for a diet Coke (sorry, only Pepsi) so that one turned to water. Everyone else at the table was having iced-tea or water and their came out quickly. Mine did not. After another 15 minutes of nobody greeting the table I dropped my menu on the floor. A server came and got it and asked if we needed anything. I told him of the missing drinks. Five minutes later a Sprite showed up in front of me. That's not water, diet Pepsi, nor a margarita. When told that the server shrugged like "not my problem" and asked how I wanted the margarita. Yes, same server that I discussed sweet&sour, mix, etc with. No joy on that one. We were then allowed to order. It was roughly 40-45 minutes past when we were sat, and of the drink options I had my water. We all ordered. One of us got her tacos within minutes. The server said the rest was on its way --no it was not. After another ten minutes of all of us saying "No no go ahead eat your food while it's hot" our food showed up. My green chile chimichanga was red. Seriously. I asked for a to-go box and got one half the size of the chimichanga. Server said that's all they had in boxes, couldn't get me one that would hold the food, but I could cut it up if I wanted. No salsa no extras just large chimi and small box. There was a table behind us where two children were yelling THE WHOLE TIME we were there, and nobody from the restaurant said a word to them. It was "difficult" to talk while the noise got loud and louder. Their mother didn't seem to care. Pretty sure Karen isn't welcome on planes either. Difficult customers exist, but it's the restaurant's job to make it fun/comfortable for ALL THE DINERS, not just the trashy ones with ill-behaved kids. So - none of the drinks were right. It took putting a menu on the floor to get a server. Food was late. Server couldn't care less. Mi Nidito is resting on its laurels, enjoying its reputation. Between tiny parking spaces, sitting booths where you're playing footsie with the person across from you, being ignored, wrong drinks, and only 1/4 dishes delivered I would not recommend them.
