Dined here 02/25/2025 for lunch . Our service was top notch our waiter was very attentive . He made our margaritas that were so delicious . I indulged and ordered another ! The enchiladas tasted authentic. Sometimes restaurants over cook the sauces and it tastes burnt but Villas did it right with the red sauce . I plan to come back again . Went there for lunch today with a friend. I had a red chile shredded beef burro, enchilada style. It was the best one I've ever had! Super flavorful. I ordered a beer and it came with a frosted glass and limes. Perfect. Their table salsa had a little heat to it. My friend had a taco and cheese enchilada plate, and she loved the beans. She never finishes her meals (doggie bag), but she ate all of her beans and the enchilada! Food came out very quickly and our server was spot on. Definitely returning. read more

So this place is pretty good with a good price point to their food. Their beans are off the hook good. The staff is friendly and attentive. I got chicken tacos and they were pretty damn good and the salsa is great too. Their lemonades are refreshing, and I recommend them! I would say the only odd thing I noticed is the distinct lack of pork on the menu. My go to would usually be pork chili Verde or Carnitas. Wasn't dissatisfied I just thought it was odd. read more

I moved from Arizona to the Midwest and the #1 thing I miss is authentic Mexican food from the Southwest. I ordered the #14 (taco and chile relleno w beans and rice) and held back tears at the first bite. It's perfection. The service was so quick I barely had time to sample the (excellent) salsa and fresh chips. And despite being in a strip mall behind a tire shop, the restaurant was sweet, clean and beautifully decorated with the A/C set comfortably for June. The prices are very fair for the quantity of food and the server was so sweet and cute and funny. Tucson, this place has been here for 30 years and it is authentic family style Mexican-give the drive through places a pass and come sit in the cool air and enjoy an amazing meal. I thought I had reviewed this place before but apparently not. The first time there (3 years ago), the food and atmosphere/service was good. It's typical Mexican food, nothing fancy but satisfying. This time, I met a group there for lunch. I was the first one there, secured a table (the place was empty) and was brought chips and salsa and my drink. I was asked if I wanted lemon or lime in my water; I said lime would be nice. It took 10 minutes to get my water - with lemon. Again, the place was empty. I tried the chips and salsa. The salsa was more like ketsup - no tang, spiciness; really bland and flavorless. The rest of the group arrived. We waited 10 minutes for the server to show up, with one of the group finally getting up and going to find him. And the place was still empty except for us and he had seen the rest of the group walk in. The server brought more chips and salsa and took drink orders. Another 10 minutes and he came back and took our food orders. When asked if the special had chicken in it, he had no idea and did not offer to check. Most of the group ordered the special. I ordered the Casuela soup and it was delicious. The rest of the group said their food was good. I would have rated the place 2 stars, but one said this was a favorite place and asked that I not rate them that low. I have to first say that I believe this a very underrated Mexican restaurant. To start, the chips and salsa were very fresh, our server even said that she just made that batch of salsa herself (which was great). There was nobody at the restaurant, so we had 0 wait time and even if there were people, the place is huge and can easily fit a crowd and large parties. All the food was so good, from the chicken and steak fajitas, to the enchiladas, and tacos. The beef tacos were the best, the crispiness of the shell was the perfect vessel for the flavor of the shredded beef. We also got a shredded beef tostada that was amazing (sorry my dad ate it before I could snap a photo and same thing happened with the churros)! We ended with the churros that were gobbled up in 2 seconds. Our server who was very attentive; was shocked to see the churro disappear so quickly when she stepped away to get our check. Overall, my family who were visiting from out of town absolutely loved it and want to go back every time they come back. However, I know I will be there sooner than that! Delicious ! We came here around 1:30pm on a Sat. afternoon and sat ourselves and then preceded to wait in which seemed like forever. Finally our waiter came to get our order. Mind you we hadn't even received our menus or proverbial chips and salsa yet. He tried taking our order sans menu and we politely explained to him that fact. He gave us this glance like it was a big deal to give us silverware and a menu. Not sure what we had done to offend him. We have eaten here before and have had way better service from the female server there. Anyway, we placed our order and received our chips and salsa (salsa was very good & thick). We waited another 20 or so minutes til our food came out. Again this was after the lunch rush, with not hardly anybody there. There were maybe 5 other tables filled with only 1 not being served as ourselves. So now the food, my partner had the chicken tacos and I had the tamale, beef taco and enchilada plate. Chicken tacos were good as per my partner and we both thought the rice and beans were very good but thought the beans were super runny. My beef taco although small was crispy and flavorful and so was my cheese enchilada. The beef tamale was super dry so I didn't finish it (my guess it may have been microwaved). All-n-all the food had good flavor but service did not and was served with indifference. As far as ambiance, this place has your typical Mexican restaurant look with large painted murals in one room and a small bar with tv's to watch sports if inclined to do so. Not sure how the food tastes because we never had the chance to order but the one star is for service. We sat down and didn't have anyone notice us for quite a while. He brought over chips and salsa and took our drink order but he never came back. A total of 20 minutes, no drinks, no food order we got up and left. Wife and I did a CHEESE CRISP TOUR of Tucson, sampling from several restaurants. My wife was born in Tucson and grew up with cheese crisps. Me being from California I had never heard of this unique twist on a quesadilla. Once educated, I fell in love with them. So on this visit, we tried cheese crisps all over town. Sometimes I just want simple family-style Sonoran food. I live in the far NW side of town where authentic Mexican is harder to find. This little restaurant meets my cravings and doesn't put a dent in my pocketbook. The service was friendly and my drink was refilled several times without having to ask. That's rare these days. It's a neighborhood restaurant, not as much a destination restaurant which suits me fine. The guacamole is made when it's ordered and the beans are exactly the way I like it, thin and almost saucy with good flavor that probably comes from lard. Plentiful (No sour cream or sides thou) It did come with a tortilla that was actual snap crisp dried out on about half of it, so we are not sure what happened there. I was really looking forward to cheese soup, but instead of chunks of the queso fresco or other Mexican cheese that doesn't melt that is regularly in Caldo de Queso, this soup just had a bunch of regular shredded cheese in it. :( It was still flavorful, but not what I was expecting and hoping for. I can order from the menu on one occasion and return on another and receive the same high quality of food. The staff is always welcoming and the chips and salsa are also flavorful. Depending on what your mood is, there are a variety of options to choose from. My daughter can choose to eat Mexican food or if she feels, chicken nuggets. My go to favorite are the sour cream enchiladas and there are plenty of vegetarian options and options for those who eat meat. We used to live near the restaurant; that's how we found them. Even though our move took us further away, it's still our favorite to go to. Everything is tasty! The tortilla soup is my husband's and I favorite! Sure we've tried a bunch, but there's just something about how that cheese melts and covers the spoon cuz it's a hidden gem at the bottom of your bowl that you didn't see! Every time! Sure it seems so simple, but it's really good to us. My husband is the one trying various things, and I giggle and laugh every time I order the same exact thing! Yes I do. But! I get to sample the selections my husband orders cuz I'm a fraidy- cat and don't want to send something back cuz I'm too simple of an eater. And all has been super tasty! The place is always clean, or after the rush it's getting cleaned as soon as able. The service has always been great, but then my husband and I do tend to smile a lot ! Have we ever had to wait on our food or something happened and it had to be fixed? Sure. Not very often at all, but that happens anywhere. It was small in comparison to all the positives. Were we there during or after a peak time? Were we in a hurry , did we request loudly enough? It comes down to, they provided and delivered every time. Even if something happened, when it was corrected it's good, we were happy. But please people, don't make restaurants suffer in comparison... we're to enjoy them for what they bring to our plate. We're to appreciate them , treat them kindly of course, and find our favorite items. We shouldn't be so critical on so many things these days. Was turned away at around 7pm on a Friday when the door was open and sign said open til 8 , the place was about half full. They just yelled "We're closed!' with no explanation or apology. Finally was allowed access at 6pm on a Saturday. The service was very slow for the number of people dining and not very friendly. The food was very tasty, but the portions were comically small. The tacos should be advertised as mini-tacos as they were barely half the size of a normal taco. Same for the enchiladas which came with the thinnest layer of rice and beans I've ever seen in my life, maybe got 2-3 spoonfulls of each. read more
