Finally decided to try Ole' after passing by it so many times and I'm glad we did. We ordered takeout and I was really impressed. The staff was friendly when we placed our order and again when we picked it up. The inside of the restaurant looked really nice. Bright walls decorated with Mexican art and a good amount of seating. They also have a nice bar that looks like a great spot to sit, grab some food and enjoy a margarita. I ordered the Ole's Burro with carne asada, which comes with rice and beans on the side. This is for a takeout order: Service was friendly but slow; our order took a while. Portions were smaller than expected and prices high for what we got. The flavor itself was good. They also tossed in some free chips and salsa since they took so long. The restaurant itself was quite cute and decorated nicely themed. I have not been here since my friend passed away. She had ALS, and I took care of her till the end. We went here all the time, and had many conversations and watched many a game here. I sat in my usual stool at the bar, and her seat....well it was empty....but many memories filled it. I decided to order a couple things different, and I was not disappointed. I for the 9 oz prime rib, (number 28 I think) and the potatoes and beef tacos. (number 14). I expected pan fried enclosed tacos with beef and potatoes, so that was my bad. They said pan friend, and I misunderstood. They were excellent though! The star of the show is this 9oz prime rib. I asked for it med rare, and was told ...basically they try. What I got was a DELICIOUS, medium rare slice of heaven. The sides are on point, the flavor of the meat ....was mouth watering. THIS will bring me back , as well as all the other things I have tried. I have to give a shout-out to Denise. She was behind the bar, and it was slow, and then BOOM everything got busy. She found me on the way to the bathroom (as she was waiting on other tables), and asked if I needed anything, (I took forever to decide). Finding good Mexican food in Oro Valley and surroundings is surprisingly challenging. This place delivers all the standards with decent quality. The food isn't amazing, just good, basic Americanized Mexican fare. But even that is better than the standard Mexi place in this area. Decor is un-ironic Mexican kitsch. I love this super unassuming spot in north Tucson for a quick, Decently priced Mexican meal. Service is friendly and quick, and their menu has a lot of traditional options. Red Chile Colorado is, most of the time, great. Today the several meat chunks were hard and dry. They were hard to chew. The biggest disappointment was the fact that if you use a card (credit OR debit) they charge a 3.5% of your bill (including the tax). I questioned why they charge customers this fee EVEN if we pay with a debit card. We were told "the machine" charges. First time I know of a restaurant that charges to pay with any card!! We don't feet it is right. We won't support this restaurant with our visits any longer. read more

Finally I walked over to them and said thank you for seating us right away. You think we can have someone serve us. My fave is the caldo de queso (traditional Mexican cheese soup) with sautéed peeled and cubed potatoes, sliced onions and tomato, roasted green chiles, and melted cheese seasoned to taste in a addicting buttery tasting savory broth. This place is closest (5 min drive) from Northwest Hospital, so it makes it super convenient to eat homemade dishes to sooth the soul. My colleagues suggested that we go to Ole' for lunch a few days ago. I am always down for trying a restaurant I haven't been to before. This location is in a shopping center with a good parking situation. We were seated as soon as we walked in. And our server immediately brought over tortilla chips and salsa. The menu at Ole' is full of options, however I went straight to the lunch section of the menu. I ordered the chicken taco lunch combo with beans and rice. If I'm being honest, it was just ok. The chips and salsa are an indicator to how the food is going to be, and I was impressed. I ordered the shrimp fajitas. The skillet was a little oily for my liking but the shrimp and veggies were piping hot and very good. My guest had the shredded beef enchiladas which were also delicious. I saw the rating on this place is 3.7. That's not adequate, especially when people criticize the service. There are always unhappy and miserable people, but the service is superb. I have eaten here many, many times with two friends. This is a family run place. The food is very good! To be fair, this isn't a Michelin star kind of place. Go pay $75-$100 a person somewhere else. This Mexican restaurant has been a northwest go-to for several years now. I used to be a regular when a server named Fernando worked here. Last night we decided to go here (proximity and weather- very cold!). My dinner was average. IMHO, the atmosphere wasn't the same. When F worked here- it was festive! It always felt like you were a part of a family- the way he welcomed us touched my heart (as if we haven't seen each other for years). It was a weird feeling, but the food didn't taste as good.
