Jenny, Jared, and Stephanie are an absolute blessing to work with at Calligraphy. They are all so friendly, helpful, available, and responsive. They are exactly what you would hope for in the people who you have to work with as a new tenant. We scheduled a tour with Jenny to look into moving to Calligraphy and she was extremely kind, patient, and available for all of our questions and needs. The entire process was made as easy as possible as Jenny, Jared, and Stephanie are extremely fast to respond and answer all your questions the same day you send them and processing all your paperwork once it is submitted. Our family could not have asked for better people to work with and truly look forward to continuing to work with them through the entirety of our lease. Furthermore, the day before we moved in we did the walk through and found a few items needing to be addressed and the maintenance team had them all taken care of that same day. The efficiency and response from everyone here sets a high standard and we are very appreciative to have their support and follow through on things. After a few nights sleep in our new place, we have found it peaceful, friendly, and have not heard our neighbors through the walls... what more can you ask for? This review is for my stay in Calligraphy Urban Residence for 3 years for 2 bedroom. Every apartment always have bad reviews but it's simply not true for this apartment. I would like to give this apartment a 5 star rating due to the following: 1. The master bedroom had large closet and huge bathroom. Island was great. The washer and dryer worked great. 2. AT&T fiber super fast internet network for 1,000 gb download & upload. Not many apartment has this feature. 3. Stephanie and Jared were both amazing managers at Calligraphy Urban Residence. These two individuals are kind and really try hard to make sure you have a great experience in living at this apartment. 4. The maintenance crew (Eric and others) always came by to fix anything if needed. 5. Great swimming pool. 6. 24 hour gym. I think a fair comment is needed. My husband and I have been living here since we got married, it's been two years already, and I just signed my third year today. I guess my loyalty speaks for the apartment, and many people in our community believe the same. They did not increase the rent last year, but they did it this year, growing about 6%. I have been trying to find a new apartment because I just lost my job a month ago and my husband got into a new company in El Monte, and the traffic is terrible. However, I couldn't find an apartment with a similar price and the exact size balcony as we have here. (although we don't stay there much) I asked for a price reduction, it seems impossible for them to reduce the price, but we still decided to remain...because we love the area. What I love about this place; 1. I love those staff working in the leasing office because they are friendly and helpful. 2. I also see a cleaning lady cleaning each floor almost every other day. All the facilities are clean and tidy. 3. The area is excellent; it is close to a market, close to Brea mall and Brea downtown. 4. The maintenance guy is amiable, and they are very good with their work! Their response time is fair, and they are friendly and talkative. My husband loves talking to them. 5. The leasing office is responsible for questions about your apartment or if you need help with anything. I do appreciate the service because some flats don't care once you have signed the contract. (And that's not how marketing should work)(world of the mouth are essential) 6. I like how they have a parking structure. Some apartments don't have it. (Of course, flat in this price range usually has a parking structure but not all of them) 7. Their pool is a decent size. I love it, and that is one of the reasons why I chose this apartment. 8. They have an urgent care across the street. I never thought it was necessary. However, I got sick one time and couldn't be able to drive far. (And there it is) 9. The community is pretty quiet(it depends on which side you are staying on). I am on the third floor, and I know there will be noises when you are living with another family, but I think other apartments will get the same problem unless you are getting a single house. 10. I have been reported with loud noises on a Friday at 11 pm lol I m a little annoyed by my neighbor. But I also appreciate that the leasing office is taking over this kind of thing quickly. So I know if I get the same problem next time, the leasing office will handle it well for me as well. There are things I don't like about the apartment too: 1. Sometimes, the gate on the third floor is broken, and the remote doesn't work all the time; it is frustrating. It seems like it is a safe community, but sometimes it is easy to sneak in. 2. A few times, I saw a business card on my car window selling their service; I also been asked for school donations a few times when I was at home, which I don't expect that happen in a private community. 3. The mailroom is a mess...people don't get their package for a long time. Sometimes your order will be on the mailroom floor with many other people's stuff, and it might have a chance your neighbor will take away your box by accident. Also, sometimes the delivery guy puts my order into the mailbox locker with other people's stuff, and I don't feel safe about that. 4. The community was pretty new when I first moved in; they told me they would have a charging system. My husband and I were planning to get an electric car at that time, and we had been waiting for the charging station. Unfortunately, it has been three years, but the charging system is still in process or maybe not even in operation? However, hopefully, they will be able to apply for the station before 2023 because many more people will be using electric cars by that time. 5. Although the leasing office staff are friendly, I wouldn't say I like that they do not have an option for "resident's general questions" when I called in. It confused me sometimes. Should I call for resident maintains or name as a new customer? It is just general questions, such as if my package is there with you guys, or if I could make reservations for the bbq place... 6. I have a 2B2B, and one of my parking is on the top floor, and I believe many residents don't like to park at the top bottom. There are a lot of empty parking spaces on the covering feet, but the leasing office said that if I get two parking spaces with the covering, it is not fair for other residents. I remember receiving a note about covering the top of the five floors (top floor), but it's been a year, the five feet still do not have any coverage. 7. The pool sometimes smells like Corine, and I think it is not suitable for kids and sensitive skin people. Also, some of the residents told me they don't clean it often as they told us initially. read more

This is not a safe place to move in. There have been frequent car break-ins , but the management didn't seem to care. Residents have been asking the leasing office on- site for parking lot security ,but there has been no improvement so far. Meantime, persistent car break-ins continued and all we heard from the leasing office on- site was to complete a police report. Today, my car was broken into so I reported it to the leasing office. The leasing office confirmed that it happened around 11:30 pm last night and ,again, told me that I need to complete the police report since they are not responsible for the damage. There are only regulations and restrictions on lease contracts regarding the parking lot usage, however, they don't provide the residents the safety and security. The leasing office continues to increase the rent price without any security improvement. I don't recommend this place unless you want to have your car broken-into. Now, I feel really unsafe staying in this place. read more

They've always responded to any of my request on the same day usually if not, it's the first thing the next day. Pros: The apartment itself is very spacious with brand new stainless steel appliances and in-unit washer/dryer. The management staff respond to email in a timely manner and any maintenance request was handle quickly. Lots of guess parking spot. Cons: I stayed in a 1 bedroom apt and the bathroom was twice the size of the bedroom. I prefer my bedroom to be bigger than the bathroom. My apt was on the 3rd floor, but my parking spot was up on the rooftop. It was a struggle when I have a lot of groceries because I had to walk down a ramp, take an elevator down to the 3rd floor, then walk to my apt. I had a one year lease and had normal minor wear and tear prior to moving out and they charged me $400 for painting, cleaning, carpet cleaning and other fees. The apt complex has poor ventilation. The hallways smells like weed and when the guy downstairs smokes on his patio my whole apartment smells like cigarette. Overall the complex is beautiful with state of the art gym and pool. The amenities are great and the rooms are nice. However, BEWARE of the move out charges. UPDATE: Changing this to 2 stars due to the fact that they charged me over $300 for cleaning/painting for normal wear and tear and they refuse to give me a receipt of the charges. read more

I wanted to write an honest assessment of living at Calligraphy Urban Residence. The leasing office personnel have been very professional with me one on one. No complaints. The amenities are nice: pool, spa, gym and rec room. The reason I'm giving this place 1 star is that I have asked management to improve security because of persistent car break ins (including my truck) but there has been no change in 3 years. There's is a security company that comes nightly to close the amenities and escort people from Common areas. However, they do not patrol the floors or the parking lot. I learn of incidents in the apartment from Facebook or residents. Rent increases and security decreases. Currently, I pay $3300 for a 2 bedroom. Staff are very responsive if anything needs fixing. There seems to be persistent plumbing issues. On average what is out once a quarter. No place is perfect but I would give Calligraphy higher rating if they took more preventive visible measures against crime and communicated incidents to residents. If I'm paying over 3k I want a secure place to live. I feel uneasy walking around the complex. read more

My wife and I lived here for 3 years prior to purchasing a home. Although we had some not so quiet neighbors at times, this place was fantastic. Jared, the leasing agent, started at this complex when we moved in and he always was positive, helpful and never, ever said no. Jared always listened to our complaints, no matter how unimportant they were in the scheme of his day. He always dropped what he was doing to help retrieving packages from the ongoing Amazon locker fiasco. Stephanie, the manager, was also always extremely helpful. I lived at Calligraphy for 4 years beginning in 2020. Over the years, the cleanliness and safety of the apartment building went downhill. It used to be maintained very nicely, but it severely lacks cleaning and upkeep currently. As other reviews have stated, safety in the parking structure is a major concern. Our car was broken into and there really was nothing done about it. Just like other people have commented, it was pretty much dismissed as no big deal. I think it's a pretty big deal when multiple cars are getting broken into all the time. Ultimately, we moved out due to a huge roach infestation in our apartment. It was really disgusting and the unit had to be sprayed numerous times. We are very cleanly people so this was not our own fault - there's a ton of roaches all around the building, you can see them walking around in the evenings around the park. Calligraphy was a really nice place to live for a few years, but unfortunately that has changed drastically. read more

Update on my one star review. If I could give calligraphy a zero I would. Trash still piled up on the floors in the trash area. Our end of lease is coming up and they just informed us our rent will increase. Amidst a pandemic! Is that even legal? Mind you none of their amenities are available so their gym, pool, common areas, doggy wash area, we have not even been able to use. Yet still being charged for. Horrible leasing company. They have horrible management and horrible building structure. They should reevaluate everything. After you live there a month you would understand the frustration of what I'm talking about. The structure is very poor and cheaply built. You can hear every little thing that your neighbor do or the above person, even the side person. The trash rooms stink with no air circulation and are always dirty. Rent is above average just because amenities. Management is a joke! It's been over two years and nothing has changed since they sold the building when I first moved in! It's a compromise on how things are here. The office staff and maintenance are very good. Covid had slowed down maintenance but now they respond very quickly. The noise is still an issue but I'm more used to it. If you have neighbors above you then you will clearly know when they are home, up late, or having a party. Also if you are facing the pool then it's always pretty loud out there and either you close your windows and doors or get comfortable with the pool play noises. Not worth moving but also a very typical apartment living situation. Now that all the amenities are reopened it does feel better somehow. read more

Absolutely AWFUL. Was fooled in the beginning and then it was one thing after another. My grandson was stuck in the elevator for 3 hours. He was 6. Took the fire department and jaws of life to free him. All because no keys or safety procedure by greedy property owners. Bike was stolen, car broke into, meth lab on 3rd floor, NO SECURITY WHICH WAS PROMISED WHEN WE SIGNED LEASE. And only 2 months lower rent by $150 due to covid. While we couldn't use the amenities we pay a lot for. And now after I had covid and my boyfriend and I quarantined and as a result financial hardship.....they are forcing us to pay 3000 to break our lease. We've never been late once in 26 months. We paid March and gave a 30 day move out and showed proof of hardship and still they won't waive 3000. We'll be homeless come Thurday. And I'm disabled to boot. Greedy, heartless and probably breaking covid rules but who has time or money to pursue it. Our credit will be ruined. DON'T MOVE HERE. THEY LIE. read more

Living here has been great. Coming from another apartment complex, where there was no parking, we got our car towed with no apology, and management that could care less. I am kind of shocked to see so many bad reviews here. Calligraphy made the move in process easy & fast. Taylor has been the best! Maintenance is quick (I mean one hour response time) and whenever I need something I've been able to get help very quickly, with a smile. I have no complaints about these apartments being loud as I've seen some reviews say, we have a patio facing a grill and fireplace and if people are there we can barely hear them. When they did construction they sent out a letter to let us know when there would be noise (something our last apartment did not do.) There is so much parking also! My boyfriend and I have enjoyed living here and so has our pup. If you're looking to move, call Calligraphy and ask for Taylor!! read more

We just moved out after living at Calligraphy for two and a half years. We moved in when the apartments were brand new. Danielle was the manager and she was good at talking to people, but not getting things fixed. Jessi did everything, she took care of every issue. It's a shame corporate didn't promote her, we were sad that she quit, but I hope she went somewhere she was appreciated more. Stephanie and Jared are running things now and are amazing. They are both responsive, and have resolved every issue we had. Edgar, the head maintenance guy, that recently left, was very good also. The building is kept clean and repaired. We had a two level townhouse that faced the Element townhomes and it was peaceful, we hardly heard anything from our neighbors. The balconies are nice and large, enclosed on three sides. There is a racist, crazy older man that owns a townhome facing the park and yells at kids(usually only nonwhite children), his balcony is very close to the large climber. The area is otherwise great, lots of friendly people walking their dogs, riding bikes, kids playing. We met so many great people there. read more

I was rented a unit by fraud with the help of the property manager Danielle who did not correctly screen tenants upon move in, after I reported the property to fair housing, legal aid etc the property then tried to cover up send out eviction notices to all involved including other tenants who should've not been leased to while she was desperate to rent to anyone the property is disgusting cracking feces urine blood in hallways stairways the jacuzzi has dirty suds broken things around the building construction they make up charges change the ledger to reflect whatever fees Danielle made up like you don't have all the different papers and emails of conflicting dollars amounts, it's clouds of pot smoking throughout the building things are in need of repair flooding no hot water lost mail and we have to pay to get our mail tenants have laundry, soiled old furniture and pet poo they sweep into the next neighbors patio nothing works in the building correctly I've even seen the office staff Desiree descrimating on a service animal during therapy !!! Upon Final move out I was charged over $40,000 to break my lease!! Trust me This Property will be on the News and Sued in court before they even think I'm going to pay them!!!
