    the bar and dining area

We came here for dinner when in Va Beach on vacation. The valet at the hotel recommended the restaurant we were staying in, and I was in the mood for some seafood. The place is nice and tries to be a little more upscale than other restaurants along the beach. We did not have reservations but were seated immediately as the place was pretty empty. We had a lovely meal, but ultimately it was a little pricier than other places and did not provide enough higher-end service or quality food to justify it. This is really a 3.5-star review.

Prior to visiting from out-of-town, I had found this establishment on yelp. Love the ambiance of the restaurant, great for solo dining, date, and even family. I came for a solo date and they had just rolled out their new menu (4/12/24). I sat in the bar area in a small booth which was perfect. The bartender was my server as well, he was great; the hostess was nice as well, you felt welcomed. I had the crab cake dinner with mashed potatoes, and it was fantastic! Mashed potatoes tasted from scratch and the crab cakes did not have any filler. I had the Watermelon Aqua Fresca (think that's the name lol) and it was good. Highly recommend and will return in the future.

TLDR: I would not come here. That staff is really nice trained well, but seem on edge the whole time for some reason. The food is very mediocre. High prices for bland food, especially when there's cheaper and much better meals all along the VB strip. Even though it's all brand new, it looks dated and fake trendy already, with lots of fake plants and a weird open atmosphere. There are lots of great places around here. I'd rather make the longer trip down to waterman's than come here again. For these prices you could go to Catch 31 for a fancier dinner at the same cost.

We stepped into Oscar's as a last second change of birthday celebration plans when the Cavalier lost our reservation. It ended up being the best restaurant choice we made in VB in 2022! The great experience started immediately when we pulled up and a very helpful valet guided us in and greeted us warmly. (Seems like a small thing, but it set the tone). When we walked in the manager and hostess were very friendly and immediately seated us in the spacious and well appointed dining room which was beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Our server arrived promptly to introduce herself and get us settled in. The drink menu was clever and abundant. I had the espresso old fashioned, which was made with their rich cold brew coffee. So good that I had two. ( highly recommended) It's worth noting that the service overall was very well choreographed between the multiple large parties and smaller groups that were dining. Bread, water, food, drinks....everything came promptly and professionally. It was the best service I've experienced anywhere since before COVID started. That's the sign of a well managed establishment with employees who like working there. The food was outstanding! The salads were very fresh looking and smelling and the house maple vinaigrette was out of this world. I had the flounder piccata special and my wife had the fresh shrimp. Both dishes were excellent. The portion size was just right, as well. We finished up with a birthday lava cake that our server went out of her way to dress up. Prices were very reasonable and our Oscar's experience greatly exceeded what we likely would have experienced at the Cavalier. I can't say enough good things! This gem is one of the very best in VB and we look forward to returning soon!

    Fettuccine Alfredo

Arrived for an early dinner from a walk on the boardwalk so the place was practically empty. Started with the crab dip which was good but needed more cheese and more crab but had a good taste not overly salty. For dinner we had the bone in veal chop which was a specialty item for the night and a plate of the fettuccine Alfredo. The veal was cooked perfectly at medium rare with a great sauce and mashed potatoes. The fettuccine Alfredo was perfect and creamy, the pasta wasn't chunky like other places.

First Impressions: Fun contemporary clean feel with the tropical vibes. A plant lover will appreciate the decor. Was greeted promptly and seated on a Thursday evening. Clean bathroom and loved the aesthetics. Opted out of the $10 valet and parked at a meter. Food: Highly impressed by the calamari, it was lightly breaded, flash fried, crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. Only wish the offered lemons with it. The bread!!! Oh my, was it perfectly crispy, warm, and delicious. I ordered the 6oz filet mignon medium rare but was more on the rare side. Hubby had the cowboy ribeye topped with crab and that was delicious. Fries tasted like McDonald's and was actually good. Got the three course meal for $49 and also got the chocolate fudge dessert which was so worth getting. Ordered a Froze which was ok. Would definitely come back during the day for a great view and to try other entrees. Service was great and never had to ask for anything as timing was great.

This is located under a nice residential building. Beautiful decor. Nice size bar. Very large dining space. We were being served by Kayla. She was very attentive to us. Bread and butter was amazing! Then we had the lobster bites, the steak bites, fried shrimp, fried calamari, and the seared tuna. I had the cowboy ribeye with mashed potatoes. Food was excellent. Service 5 stars.

    Ambiance.

Oscar's is a place I've wanted to try since summer. They have a gorgeous porch outside facing the ocean and it looks like a lovely dinner on the beach location. For residents of the building above, it's 10% off the main menu. During Restaurant Week I browsed their available menu and booked it. So glad I did. My fiancee ordered the shrimp risotto from the main menu and I really liked it - came with about five large shrimp tails. I chose from the three-course Restaurant Week Menu and went with caesar salad, fish special which was rockfish excellently prepared with whipped potatoes and asparagus, and the spumoni three-flavor gelato which was supposed to be chocolate, strawberry and pistachio. The gelato was disappointing because it tasted like vanilla and chocolate ice cream with a light chocolate-dip on the outside. Everything else was delicious and the normal menu had a lot of really good seafood and steak options. They also had a few other desserts that sounded amazing and had good italian coffee for after dinner. Our server was very polite and did a great job. They do valet parking for $10 but we self-parked in the garage across the street for $6 every two hours just because they only had one valet working that night and cars were backed up - he was running his tail off working so hard! They also have a bar menu with $8 drinks and food served only at the bar - but all day. No happy hour bc of this. We can't wait to come back and try this place out during warmer weather and sit on the beautiful expansive porch with summer breezes blowing off the water.

I am so glad we decided to try this spot for our Anniversary. This was definitely one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Parking is valet for $10, which is reasonable for the Oceanfront. We were warmly greeted by the valet and the hostess. We decided for patio seating since the weather was perfect. We got to sit right on the corner with a beautiful view of the boardwalk and ocean. We both went for the 3 course meal. I had the calamari as an appetizer, sirloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus , and the chocolate mousse cheesecake. My husband had a Caesar salad, the chicken Parmesan, regular cheesecake. This was the best calamari I have ever had. It was seriously melt in your mouth amazing. My steak was cooked perfectly, and the chocolate mousse cheesecake was so delicious. Also, the chicken Parmesan was amazing. Whoever cooked it, did their thing! For cocktails we had the Sparkling Lavender Lemonade, and the Tropical Mule. The mule was so good! Throughout the dinner, the staffs continued to walk around and fill our water glasses without us asking (which I appreciated). Towards the end our amazing server brought out a complimentary ice cream plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate syrup .We appreciated that so much, she was amazing. Overall, the vibes, decor, food, and staff were all so awesome. I told my husband they must have hired all former chickfila employees, because their customer service was top tier! It made this such a great first time experience for us. I highly recommend Oscar's, you will not be disappointed.

Let's begin with the review. The weather couldn't have been more beautiful and from our seats you can see the ocean. Virginia Beach Boardwalk at its best! The service was A+ and our waiter very attentive. Side note: I love when wait staff offer suggestions and descriptions, it certainly helps with indecisiveness most of the time. I have the pleasure of trying the lemon saffron risotto with shrimp, spinach and goat cheese. The risotto rice was nice and tender, the goat cheese added a creaminess and the spinach added a pop of color and taste. I found that the three-course meal they offered what's up the best value as you had a choice of an appetizer your meal and a dessert. I chose the Caesar salad but they'll right in and didn't capture a picture sorry. I will say that it was fresh, no wilt in sight Now the dessert was divine. The cake had a silky mousse which I didn't expect but was delighted about. This kept the taste of chocolate consistent but not overwhelming. I would certainly stop back by of ever at Virginia Beach again.

Excellent menu, service, ambiance, and fantastic food -- I'd definitely come back if I'm in VB, so I highly recommend Oscar's Oceanside! Iced tea, She-crab soup & fresh bread & butter, pan-seared fresh catch flounder w/ white wine & butter sauce & lump crab mashed potatoes, charred asparagus for dinner and a slice of cheesecake w/ fresh blueberry sauce which I took to go for later -- now is later...

    Staff hanging with friends!

Please do not be fooled by the five-star reviews. I am sure the staff's friends are writing them because the service is the worst in Virginia Beach. On our last night in Virginia Beach celebrating our anniversary, we decided to end our final night at Oscar's, and what a major mistake. We had an 8PM reservation. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly empty. We sat and waited over 30 minutes before someone came to get our drink order, and that was after my partner went to say something. After getting drinks, we waited another 20 minutes for someone to take our food order. While we sat waiting for service, the servers and host sat at the bar and had friends come in and join them. It was the worst decision we ever made to celebrate our last here. There is nothing luxurious or admirable about this place. It is 2024, and they are charging like a gas station. If you pay cash, you pay the cheaper bill, but if you use a card, there is a surcharge. It doesn't make any sense. What nice restaurant does this??!! I have never had this happen and will never be back. There are so many better options on the beach, and this place is not it. Please do not be fooled by the 5-star reviews because that is not the level of service or quality you will receive.

This restaurant is upscale, and has a dress code - although you can feel comfortable in casual-formal clothing. The interior is decorated boho beach chic and would be great for taking dinner pictures for a celebratory event like graduation, engagement, or get together. They have a wide selection of wines by the glass or bottle. The views of the oceanfront beach are there, just not the best on the beach. Other restaurants have better views of the water and boardwalk. Everything we tried on the menu, the lobster bites, seared tuna appetizer, corn/crab chowder, salmon dinner, and flounder piccata as well as the espresso and vanilla bean ice cream were tasty. It is a little bit pricier than other restaurants on the beach, especially considering the view isn't spectacular. Servers were pleasant, efficient and maybe a tad bit too efficient for my liking, although we were there before dinner rush on a Monday, so there weren't very many customers. You have to pay to valet your car, $10. As a local having dinner at the oceanfront on the off season, this deterred us and we parked the car on a nearby street then walked up. Other places on the beach valet your car for customer's discretionary tip. Glad we tried it, but undecided if we would come back.

The ambiance was nice, the open kitchen with the wood fire hearth right at the entrance added a warm cozy feel from the onset. The restaurant was warmly lit but not dark. We were seated immediately in the far left dining area in an elevated booth. After reviewing the menu we settled on the fried deviled eggs and wood fire oysters for starters and the Vincent Vega pizza for dinner. Fried deviled eggs was a first for us and it was so good! The egg white was breaded very lightly and fried and the egg yolk was piped on top with a piece of smoky delicious bacon goodness. It had a nice smoky, bacon-y taste and we devoured them. I only wish you got more than 2 pieces. I think 4 pieces would be better for the price considering it's essentially one egg but I'm not complaining. The wood fire oysters was another hit for us, the serving came with 6 half shell oysters topped with breadcrumbs (light), swimming in butter and fire roasted. I think we ate these even faster than the deviled eggs lol! Would definitely get these again. The pizza also did not disappoint. If you like bacon, mushrooms and creamy Boursin cheese, you'll love this pizza. We added crushed red pepper flakes which added a nice kick. The crust is the star of the show; thin, crispy but still has body and slightly chewy. Yum! That wood fire hearth definitely makes a difference. I simply do not know where to begin with the most amazing time I've ever had at any restaurant in…read moremy entire life. I brought a party of 5 to finally partake in the culinary excellence that Eurasia has to offer. As a collective we ordered- STEAK N EGGS w/ no egg : such depth in all aspects of every bite. The polenta and steak were cooked with absolute precision. PEANUT CHICKEN WINGS : probably my absolute favorite of the entire spread. The tartness of the peanut butter was a very pleasant surprise. I would absolutely purchase a jar of the sauce alone. CRAB RANGOON FLATBREAD : an elevated version of a favorite take out additive. Sauce to ingredient ratio was to die for! GREEN GODDESS & MANGO SALAD : this salad was dressed to perfection, allowing all items to shine in its each individual way. CHILI CRUNCH TUNA POKE : I mean you quite literally will explode with satisfaction with every bite. The freshness and variety of flavor / texture is impeccable. FRIED RICE W/EGG ON SIDE : you can absolutely distinguish that whoever is on the line preparing your fried rice is doing so with the experience in mind. The preparation of the shrimp, the array of colored FRESH vegetables, and the rice itself. DIRTY MARTINI FETTUCINE PASTA : a blue cheese olive dirty martini is my all time favorite drink so lo and behold, there was a pasta created by its existence. The block of blue cheese down to the plethora of capers, absolute chefs kiss. BBQ DUCK : honestly if this was all I ordered , I would be more than satisfied. This item was accompanied by the most decadent Mac & Cheese , a perfected bowl of collard greens, and the pickled mountain of cabbage. STRAWBERRY CRUMB CRÈME BRÛLÉE : for the most part , I tend to stray away from a crème brûlée due to the lack of creativity. HOWEVER, the strawberry crunch crumbs and that dream of a sugar crust. I could clear a couple plates of this. PASSIONFRUIT & PANDAN TART : this hit every note of a well rounded dessert. The passionfruit was so tart with a subtle sourness that aided the coconut shortbread cookie. I would like to shout out our waitress Fantasia for an amazing service that evening by ensuring the plates never stopped coming, drinks stayed full, and any requests satisfied. As well as Chef Braedon for coming out to introduce himself and explain the magic he placed on our table. My friends and I will most definitely be back.
