I was so disappointed today at lunch. We went to the nearby Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and decided to go to the diner for an easy lunch. We both choose the senior fried flounder (one piece) with salad bar and mac and cheese. The salad bar was okay, pretty typical for the diners around here. The flounder was awful. The pieces of fish were identical, like they were from frozen, not fresh (long triangle shape). The breading was very gritty, not sure what it was battered with but it was a terrible mouth feel. Very unpleasant. The mac and cheese was good. We got the free pudding to go, it was put into what I can only describe as a oversize shot glass. We both laughed when we took it out of the bag. A good stop to make if you want quick & classic food. Service was quick and attentive. The venue itself has that old school hometown diner feel. It's been a long time since I've been somewhere with that old school salad bar in it. It has its own parking lot, & it's a bit off of a main highway. The food was simple, good, but nothing above & beyond. Not taking anything away from them, again, the food IS GOOD, not just a "go-to" location if passing through. We had Steak & Eggs (Steak- Medium, Eggs- Over Easy), and Biscuits & Gravy w/a side of sausage. All was good, but everything needed salt added because it was very light on seasoning. A good choice for a quick stop, but a pass if you're looking to add to your "go-to" travel spots. So a fair explanation would be 4 Stars if you're local, 3 Stars if you're passing through. My food was good for $75.00, it would have been even better if I got what I thought I was asking for. So normal restaurants when you ask for home FRIES/POTATOES they give you just that and not shredded unseasoned hash browns. Some employees are a bit "TRUMPISH" IJS. This functionally met the needs, so we had breakfast one day and to go for dinner another. The restaurant felt a little dirty. There were flies buzzing around our table and some dirty silverware. For breakfast, we had standards - eggs, bacon, toast, breakfast potatoes, breakfast sandwich, pancakes. They were out of Belgium waffles, which is odd if you can make pancakes. So, either it's a pre-made mix or the machine was broken. Eggs were cooked well. Everything else was just okay, including pretty weak and bland coffee. It was super cheap though. For dinner, we had chicken tenders, kids spaghetti with meatballs, a Greek salad, chicken noodle soup and a crab cake sandwich. Clearly, they have a diverse menu. Soup was a little salty, but good texture. I liked the salad. They don't make their own dressings, which is fine (packets in the bag). The staff was welcoming and friendly. The premises and views and evening breezes were amazing. The burger was really good but the conch fritters...no. I realize it was at the end of night but they were over-fried and tough-chewy and mushy on the inside. My opinion is that the fritter had a high content of 'filler' as in bread or bread crumbs, and not much conch. They had that burnt taste and the texture was unpleasant. I could not get beyond a few bites; server took the appetizer off our bill. We would like to return to try their other menu items. read more

Great place for traditional comfort food! This is not fine dining. This is just plain good food with friendly service and a comfortable casual atmosphere. Exactly the kind of diner that I have always loved. There is nothing exotic or esoteric but if you are looking for great chicken fried steak or a really good breakfast, this is the place. Our server was really good and made good recommendations for us. The salad bar is not one of those gigantic things, kind of modest but everything was fresh and included phenomenal potato salad, great bean salad, would have been easy to fill up on by itself. We both got chicken fried steak, one with sausage gravy and one with brown gravy. Both were really good, both were twice as much as we could eat! The mac and cheese is also really good. On the way out as we were groaning from how full we were I saw the case had Smith Island cake so I know that I absolutely have to come back. read more

My friend and I had planned to meet at another nearby restaurant for her birthday dinner. That place unexpectedly closed early at 3 pm and there are not many places open in Cambridge on a Sunday night. So we headed for the diner, which she had visited many years ago. We were pleasantly surprised. They offer some specials that include soup or salad bar, an entree, and dessert. My friend ordered the chicken soup (a real homemade style hearty soup) and I had the salad bar. She ordered the Chicken Chesapeake (with crab on top) and she really enjoyed that. I had a pasta Florentine with seafood. It was good, and there was lots of seafood in it, but I was a bit bland. Our server was very pleasant. So the diner saved the day. read more

This was my 2nd visit to the diner, and although presentation of my meal (Chesapeake Chicken dinner) was good, there were quite a few disappointments: - the onions in the French onion soup were barely sauteed and very crunchy - my broccoli was perfectly steamed, but unseasoned and cold - my mashed potatoes were dry and cold - I was not offered a drink refill, and left the restaurant feeling very thirsty - I was not given a choice of dessert, and grainy pudding was brought to me in a styrofoam container -- I presume they were indicating I should leave - I spent most of my meal shooshing a fly. The manager, Valerie, later accepted a phone call regarding my experience, but only offered a polite "sorry." Perhaps she felt a $30 meal did not need to be served hot or carefully prepared, or guests made to feel welcome. read more

We walked in and to my surprise they have a salad bar. That was very neat and clean. We chose the 100% Maryland crab cakes from the special menu $26.99 comes with soup or salad bar plus 2 sides and dessert vanilla, chocolate, strawberry ice cream or chocolate or vanilla pudding. I picked coleslaw and fries and husband picked broccoli and coleslaw. We skipped dessert. Super good. We will definitely be going back. Cambridge Diner is the bomb diggity! my husband and I were traveling from Vermont to Saratoga Springs and our gos took us through the charming village. we spotted the Cambridge Diner, and although it was a few minutes before they closed, they happily seated us and gave us our lunch menus. I had a cheeseburger and chips, and my husband had a bacon mushroom burger with fries. I can honestly say that there were the best burgers we have ever had. my husband is still talking about them a week later! the service was outstanding, and we never felt rushed even though we ate past their closing time. I really wanted the Crab cakes and they did not have them and FLO (Our very impatient waitress) who after just sitting down and blurting out " what can I get you'?comes back b4 looking at menu asks us same question and seems pissed. Finally get her back and no Hello just what can I get you-again? I get scallops since my brother is determined to eat there and the salad dressing is warm- I'm a little worried now since a lot of the reviews are 1 star and nothing good said. My Mom left most of her food there and I never got my desert. Other than the tall blonde and very pretty waitress who had a great smile(this place sucked!) Note to 2 other waitrice's that looked like they hated serving people- learn how to smile and be polite. Classic diner food in a nostalgic setting. Everyone should have a Cambridge Diner in their lives - the local place that dishes up comfort food a great prices in a family setting. This is the type of place we'd stop on family road trips as children. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch, complete with delicious orange crushes. I thoroughly enjoyed my Greek salad with gyro meat, and my husband's turkey club was excellent. The fries were crisp, the bread perfectly toasted, and the service most attentive. My friend I had the crab cakes (cooked perfectly) burger & fries ( fixed just I like it) red velvet cake (our favorite) ruben (could've been a little better) cream of crab soup (pretty good but a little too thick) and a salad. The waitress that took our order on the phone was pleasant and nice, also the waitress that gave us our order was a delight as well; overall service was awesome. We were on a short vacation in Cambridge and were really impressed with the Cambridge Dinner. We had an early dinner there and split the broiled seafood dinner - delicious - and opted for the salad bar (quite nice, and haven't seen one of those since before the pandemic) and then shared the desert (we opted for chocolate ice cream, which was top quality) that came with the dinner. We paid a little extra so we could both get a big salad from the salad bar. The waitress was fantastic and brought us two plates to share the entree, without us even asking, and regularly checked on us and refilled our ice teas. What a gem! It's rare to find a place like this these days. PS: they do served beer and other adult beverages too, but we were there around 4 pm; a bit early for us for that. The food here is about the worst I have had in a very long time. I ordered the chicken fried steak with homemade gravy, mashed potatoes, corn. It also came with soup or salad bar. I chose the chicken soup which was very good. Everything else I would be embarrassed to serve a customer. The chicken fried steak was stiff as a board, even the gravy couldn't penetrate it. The mashed pot were ok, the corn was tasteless. My husband ordered the "homemade" meatloaf. This meatloaf was sliced thin and then it looked like it was pan fried to heat up, also smothered in gravy. The service was great, and the restaurant looked clean but the food was just awful. Nothing tasted homemade here. read more
