Visited Camel City again on our way to a concert at the Ramkat. I've been a few times in the past, but was not as impressed on this visit. We were seated upstairs in a front corner room, that was very cramped, and crowded with other tables, and apparently to make it possible to fit as many tables as they had, they were incredibly narrow. My wife and I went with another couple, and the tables were so small, the entire time, our we were bumping knees with our friends...very awkward. Additionally the front room tables don't have any of the vintage gaming systems that we've come to enjoy playing on past visits. Waitstaff were ok, but again, not as outgoing, or attentive as past visits. I honestly feel this front room is easily forgotten by even the staff. On this visit I got the brisket with hushpuppies as a side. The brisket was good, I do wish I'd gotten a different side, the hushpuppies were good, but got heavy after a bit, and made me feel a bit sluggish. In general, from past experience, the food is always great, and so is the service. I'll chock this visit up to bad day, I'm sure i'll be back to give them another try read more

Been here a bunch of times now. The food is always good (love the brisket), with fast service, and the space is huge with spots to eat and play inside and out on the patio. We checked out the arcade area adjacent to the bar upstairs with this most recent visit. That was my first time in that particular area of the restaurant, and I was impressed with the size of the space. They could perhaps add more to the arcade collection, but the kids had fun and it was an enjoyable atmosphere to lounge. read more

Hands down, the worst BBQ I've ever had and the sides literally said "hold my beer"! Pulled pork - watery and not with sauce. Watered down sauce or bad bbq soaking in sauce when they defrosted the Sysco or Costco tub. Collard greens should sue this place for defamation b/c if this was your first time eating them, you would swear they were flavorless (like not even salt and pepper) the pot liquor was water. The Mac and cheese was advertised as "3 cheese" but it should have been called "not 3 flecks of seasoning Mac and mild cheese". They used a béchamel but they need a sharper cheese (1 of the 3) and salt. Is there a moratorium on salt in Winston Salem? The baked beans were straight out the can. They had the nerve to add on the menu "sides may contain meat" the lies they told. These beans didn't even have the fat from the can but they came straight from the can. Nasty The Cole slaw was straight from Sam's club and nasty. Only good times: the hush puppies (if you like sweet, I do) and the sausage was decent but not great. I hate leaving bad reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt I should share it. A group of six of us came to Camel City BBQ expecting a good meal and good service. Not long after we were seated, we were told that a large party who arrived about 20 minutes after us had to be prioritized. While I understand that large parties can be challenging, it shouldn't come at the expense of customers who were already seated and waiting. Our table was clearly overlooked. We only received drink refills once or twice during the entire meal, and we spent a lot of time waiting for basic service. What made this even more frustrating is that everyone at our table works in the restaurant industry, and several of us are servers ourselves. We understand how busy restaurants get, and we're usually very patient and understanding. However, this felt like our table was simply forgotten because attention was focused elsewhere. We weren't expecting perfect service--just fair service. Prioritizing a party that arrived after us while neglecting customers who were already there isn't the experience we expected. This is a wonderful place to go with a group. The food is good, they have a bar, and most of the second floor is a game room. There are plenty of dining options and a kids menu as well. They do add 20% for large party gratuity but will not tell you that when you are given the check, so be mindful. Our server asked us if we wanted dessert and then didn't tell me the correct cookie flavors - apparently they always have chocolate chip, except when they don't. Get the brisket sandwich!!! I was in town for a conference and I decided to stop by as I was leaving town. I like that they have a parking lot and when you enter the restaurant, there is a computer to add your license plate to it. The downstairs is for take out orders or ordering yourself on kiosk. The upstairs is for sitting down with waiter and there was plenty of space during lunch time on a weekday. The brisket and hush puppies were sooooo good!!! Very fresh and hot. Stopped by Camel City BBQ Factory for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It's a huge space, and the setup confused me at first, but from what I understood, you can order counter service on the first floor or be served by a waiter on the upper floor. There's outdoor seating, a bar, and old retro games at the table (plus connect four and other options). WS Pride was happening downtown, so it was a bit busy, but we were seated quickly. Our server was friendly and helpful, and while service was on the slower side, we understood due to the crowd. We tried a variety of items, and the brisket and hush puppies were my personal favorites. I wasn't wowed by the food, but it was on par with what I'd expect from a BBQ joint. Super casual BBQ restaurant located in downtown Winston-Salem. The restaurant is two floors. You can order at the counter on the bottom floor and sit at one of the tables inside or outside. If you want full-service, you can sit upstairs. My husband and I chose to sit upstairs. I ordered a pulled pork platter. It came with hush puppies, slaw, and another side. You can substitute a different side instead of the slaw for an additional cost. I chose onion rings and sweet potato tots instead of slaw. I also shared a mac & cheese side with my husband. My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it came with either fries, hush puppies, or a combo of both. He chose the combo. Food came quick. Everything was really good and portions were absolutely giant. It truly made 2 more meals for me from what I took home. Server was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a bunch of games around the tables you can play while you wait for your food (e.g. tic-tac-toe, connect four, etc.) and an arcade area upstairs too. Would love to not give any stars. We recently was at a catered event from here. The fried chicken was bloody at the bone. The bbq and baked beans were full of fat. There was no sauce available for the meats. No effort was even taken to keep the potatoes warm and no gravy was available for the potatoes. When we finally found the tea there was no cups offered to drink from. If the restaurant is anything like this I would recommend staying away. I would never eat there. read more

Sometimes we validate & it works other times we've been sent $50-90 tickets for parking less than 1 hour to get lunch, this is a city of WS property problem but very frustrating to resolve. My friends took my wife and me to this must-go BBQ joint in downtown Winston-Salem. First of all, there is an arcade and some tables even have Nintendo games to play! That's awesome! My wife and I shared the 3 meat tray. Everything was phenomenal and we had enough for a 2nd meal. The ribs were my favorite as they fell off the bone and they had a sweet tangy red sauce. The pulled pork was next as it was what you would expect from North Carolina BBQ! I loved the vinegary sauce! The brisket was really good too as it had the same sauce as the ribs. For our sides, I loved the BBQ slaw. I never had a slaw like it and could not get enough of its BBQ vinegar base. The sweet potato casserole was phenomenal and made me feel like it was the holidays. We also got the 3 cheese mac and it was homemade casserole style. Slaw comes with the platter but I would have a hard time choosing between the sweet potato casserole and Mac and cheese. This place is FIRE!!!! This is our second time coming here and the food is literally 10/10. If you want good barbecue this is the spot. Everything, literally everything tastes so good. Fun place with okay but not amazing BBQ. This place is huge with multiple levels and inside or outside seating. It was unseasonably warm so we sat out on the patio and it wasn't packed yet around 4:30 on a Friday afternoon but it filled up fast. I noticed they had lots of video games inside and I think a system with controllers at most of the inside tables. Food was average BBQ but nothing special. The onion rings were fresh and really tasty. You could tell they were homemade instead of frozen. The pulled pork and brisket were solid but oddly came pre-sauced rather than letting me put my own sauce on them. That's never a good thing for a BBQ place. The collard greens and BBQ beans were both okay but nothing special. They also gave me a couple small hush puppies that were really tasty. First time here, it's a three level joint with an arcade and bar on the top level. This place could be loud and be a bit kid heavy at certain times so take that into consideration. Wife ordered some mozzarella sticks same nothing to write home about. I ordered the barbecue plate with white slaw tater tots. The barbecue is a little on the dryer side no matter how much barbecue sauce you put on. It had a good flavor, but was a little too dry. The hush puppies were good a bottle of eating barbecue sauce that sits on the table flavor it's sweet. Wanted to see if they had a western sauce And they charge you $.75 per side. You guys know this is already a pet peeve of mine I'm dining at your establishment ordering appetizers meals drinks I shouldn't have to pay $.75 for a sauce. Yes, the way Trish did tell me, but I wanted to try their sauce so I still ordered it. My wife ordered the brisket sandwich. It came with two onion rings on top. It was pretty good. the brisket wasn't dry. It had the western barbecue sauce on top. She got the sweet potato tots. They could've been a little crispy but good flavor. Had the banana put in for dessert it was pretty good. Looks like they do Cake as their base the banana feeling didn't really have any chunks of banana whipped cream and then crumbled vanilla wafers on top had a great crunch next time we're back in Winston and we're looking for some barbecue. Yet another restaurant I had not visited in a while, so it was here for lunch today. I ordered the 2 Meat Combo of Brisket and Sausage with sides of Collards & Onion Rings, along with Stella on draft! My order was out super quick and it looked great, and it tasted great as well. There was a lot of Brisket, easily 1/2 pound or more, and it was tender, well sauced, and smokey. The Smoked Sausage was excellent with great flavor and perfectly grilled. Collards were also plentiful, tender but a tad under seasoned. The Onion Rings were massive, nicely breaded and loaded with fresh tasting white onion - as good as I've had, right up there with those at Davie Tavern. The service was every bit as good as the food.The only negative, and it was a small one - they use paper plates! A return visit is only a matter of time and continued good fortune. read more

My, oh, my! What a time we had at @camelcitybbq! This bbq eatery features a plethora of smoked meats and scrumptious sides! There are two levels of seating, plus upper and lower outdoor seating areas. The upstairs features an arcade where you can pass the time playing game after game. Our server, Trish, was absolutely fantastic! She had great recommendations and brought our drinks to the arcade. She anticipated our needs and was funny and memorable. I can't rave enough about her! The food was likewise wonderful. We each got to try a selection of meats and sides. I had the pulled pork, ribs, and sausage. My sides were the fried okra, hushpuppies, and cole slaw. Everything was hot and so flavorful. My absolute favorite was the sausage. It gives you that satisfying pop of breaking the outer layer but was so juicy and smokey inside. It came with a housemade honey mustard that only enhanced its flavor. For dessert we tried their out of this world banana pudding and a piping hot smores cookie. Both were amazing! Cool atmosphere and good bbq! We got the pulled pork bbq plate which comes with a TON of meat and two sides plus hush puppies. Meat was cooked perfectly and the Mac and cheese is probably one of my favorites. We were really impressed with the amount of food for the price. We also split the smoked Turkey melt which was good but I wish it had a little more flavor to it. The fries that came with both the sandwich and the kids grilled cheese were really good. The menu has a great variety of options so we will definitely be back to try some more of them but will be getting that pulled pork plate too, for sure! We've been here several times and mostly always enjoyed everything. We stopped in tonight for dinner, I have pros and cons... It's in a great location in downtown Winston Salem. The building is nice and big with an arcade upstairs and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I like that their grade is right when you walk into the establishment and they have a sanitation grade of 99.0. Now, for our meal. Tonight my husband had the Brisket Melt and he very much enjoyed his sandwich with a side of tots. My son had a kids bbq sandwich with hush puppies. The hush puppies are really tasty. I had the Pulled Chicken Plate. My chicken wasn't very hot this time. I had two sides, potato salad and turnip greens. The potato salad is just ok in my opinion. A little on the mushy side and a tad sweeter than I like. I did, however, like the turnip greens. I don't eat pork so I appreciated that they don't use pork or fatback to season them. They use chicken broth instead. I went to the counter to ask for a cup of ranch (they make) to dip my puppies in, and the guy behind the counter handed me one from on the counter. I didn't like that they weren't being refrigerated, so I didn't use it. I'd probably go back bc my husband likes the brisket and my son loves that there are video games at the tables, but it won't be a place we frequent. read more

I have been wanting to come to Camel City for some time and got that opportunity this weekend. The building is easy enough to find and parking is in a lot next to it or on the street. We walked and the hostess asked if we were dining in or taking out. There are two choices on dining in, self-serve which I am guessing is counter service and then seat yourself and full-service with table service and wait staff, we chose the latter and took an elevator to the third floor. After being seated we ordered local beers and fried pickles that we all agreed were the second best in the area. My wife and I ordered the same dish and honestly could have split it because of the size. We got the brisket melt, brisket served on a Hoagie bun, which came with a side of fries or hush puppies....get the hush puppies and thank me later. She got a second side of Mac- n-cheese and I got greens. I think the greens were better but decide for yourself. Service was good and you can play old style video games if you want...our table had an Atari system with Frogger. My family went to Camel City this past weekend to celebrate a birthday. Group Reservations: They only take reservations for groups of 20+. We had a group of 15 so we didn't get a reservation, but they were able to sit us shortly after half the arrived. We sat upstairs in the game room. We had plenty of space. Food: It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. I had the Pulled Hickory Chicken, Collard Greens, and Sweet Potato Tots (with Peach Sauce). Surprisingly, the Collards were the best part. The consensus of the group: it was just ok. Parking: Beware of the parking lot. Be sure to read all instructions. One of our group got a ticket, luckily, the staff took care of it. However, We have a friend who had to go to court. I recommend street parking. Staff: Every member of the staff was awesome. The hostess, server, and bartender were all very friendly, patient, and helpful. Games: lots of fun arcade games. Most of them cost $1.00, with a few $0.50 options too. Decided to give camel city a try today, we haven't had BBQ in over three months. They have a decent beer selection with a seasonal and rotational menu. I'm a porter person myself, so I would definitely suggest the Deep River 4042. Something about a chocolate porter and BBQ just makes sense to me, lol. The service was spot on here, our beers didnt have a chance to go empty as they were right there to fill it right back up. It has a very relaxed feel and the BBQ was good.
