I happened to be in the area and decided to visit the seafood restaurant spontaneously. I ordered a fried crab cake, fried oysters, and fried soft-shell crab. The portions were small, and the dishes were quite salty and greasy. Service was somewhat disorganized, and I waited approximately 25 minutes for my order. The restaurant had a steady flow of customers, which gave me high expectations. They appear to be known for their spiced shrimp, as they were available from the cashier at the register, seasoning was added upon request; however, the presentation did not look particularly appetizing. I am not interested in trying their fried options again, nor this seasoning. If I find myself in the area in the future, I may consider trying their steamed crabs. read more

When you want some seafood and don't want to go far to get it definitely try Cameron's seafood in Rockville trust me you won't be disappointed, I tried the fried scallops platter and it really hit the spot the scallops were cooked perfectly and shockingly the fries carried well given it was delivered. The service was excellent and easy, I've been inside a time or two it's a really nice place and depending on when you go it can get a little busy but all and all it's really worth it. read more

The food is not good anymore. I brought catfish the pieces was small and the cream of crab soup is a HARD NO! It was watery and no flavor. It's under new ownership and you can clearly tell. The food isn't the same and the quality is non-existent. I had looked over at the dessert and they were sad-looking. No Smith-Allen cake, just horrible looking dessert. Stopped in here yesterday to pick up some cod fillets for dinner. Service was friendly and efficient. The cod fillets were fresh and tasted GREAT when I made them for dinner that night. None of that funky taste and odor that I find in the supermarket seafood. If you don't feel like making your fish at home, worry not because Cameron's can fry up or broil your fish right on the spot. Take note, they don't have any seating on the premises, so this is a strictly carry out operation. The crab soup and fried haddock look fabulous. I visited today to get 4 dozen crabs. I got home and saw that it had all this white grayish stuff on the outside and inside the shell. I'm not sure if it's old or it was cooked when the crabs were dead. But I went out on a limb for this place. I won't be making another purchase again. read more

Came back here after a few years. The first time we came here, was the first time we had ever bought steamed crabs. We didn't know how crabs were sold and what the difference was between male and female crabs. This visit, armed with a little more knowledge, we bought a dozen crabs. Our appetite is probably 2 to 3 per person. The place was not very crowded. You can buy the crabs raw as well, which we will try one day to make crab curry. As you walk in you cannot help but notice the clean smell of seafood or ocean. You have to order them there. Not over the phone. But it was super quick. We ordered the crabs that they steamed for us with old bay seasoning. Very fresh. They also had other items that I would like to try like their fried items and soup. read more

This review is for people looking for crab legs and XL steamed crabs. For the crab legs, it's not cheap and they push you to get 5 lbs ($100 if I remember correctly), but I'll tell you the legs were so meaty and large, it reminded me restaurant quality size, like the ones I used to eat at Clarions Ocean City MD buffet (sadly it's now closed). I put them in my instant pot and cook for three minutes, melt some butter, and really enjoyed them. It's only one of the few places to get crabs in the Rockville area except for Hoopers crab trucks that roll around in the summer at various Giant grocery stores. Get there early before it gets crowded, as the lines can be quite long. I always call before to see if they have XL crabs, the only crab size I'll get here. On the rare chance they gave XL ($10 per piece) get it! I would give it 4 stars if the customer experience was a bit better. Can be very rude at times and the parking can be a nightmare. read more

A pickup customer for many years, I assume products are fresh. Sadly this was not the case for raw shrimp recently. Overnight in my refrigerator the shrimp were omg bad. The odor required a complete refrigerator clean out. This was partly my fault. Cameron's would not intentionally sell bad products. My daughter in law wanted crabs for her birthday dinner. I read that Cameron's opens at 9 am on Sunday and I was there at 9 am. Do not go at 9 am, they told me to return at 10:30. They do not have any crabs steamed before then. I returned at 10:20 and they told me it would be 10 more minutes and I could prepay for my order. I paid for my order and continued to wait. At 10:45, they told me that they didn't have any female crabs! Really, after 2 hours of wait time, I just found this out. I do not think this is a good business practice. At 10:55 I received my crabs. I paid extra for large male crabs, but the crabs I received were more medium in size. Why was I paying an additional $50, for medium size crabs? The steamed shrimp I ordered were wonderful. They were huge, juicy, and fresh. They were a real hit at the party. I love crabs and I was really looking forward to this dinner. If you are looking for steamed crabs, I would look elsewhere. They were just okay and not the size I was promised. But, the steamed shrimp are a real winner. They need to advertise that steamed crabs are not available until 11:00. My counter helper, Robert, was very nice and helpful. He kept checking on my order. Kudos to him. read more

Cameron's never disappoints. I ordered the seafood platter and the crab stuff shrimp. The seafood platter comes with a crab cake, fried scallops, whiting fish, steamed/fried shrimp , coleslaw and fries. The fish was meaty not much seasoning but still overall good, the fried shrimp were delicious and not full of breading you actually get a large to jumbo fried shrimp . The steamed shrimp were good , however I would've preferred if they were deveined. The crab cake was very lackluster very little crab meat and had some type of shell or something hard mixed in, and was oddly sweet i was not able to finish it . The crab stuff shrimp only came with 1 shrimp , but it was the highlight of the entire meal . read more

I'm a fan and will add this to my rotation. I originally went in looking for pompano fish in the market, they didn't have the fish I wanted however I noticed they cook and sell fresh seafood plates. I got an ultimate plate for my daughter and I to share and it was enough for lunch and dinner for both of us and it was pretty good. I'm a native beach girl who's grew up eating seafood all the time (our thanksgiving dinner at home this year was a seafood feast) so it's nice to have a spot near by where I can get a fresh seafood platter and not just crab cakes lol. read more

After a few years with isolating and conflicting schedules, we were finally able to arrange a date for a crab feast with our granddaughter and her boyfriend. Rich called around to check prices for steamed blue crabs. The crab markets near us were charging anywhere from $49 to $75 a dozen for medium. Cameron's were $40 a dozen for medium and large mixed. It turned out that on the Sunday of our feast they had a special of $100 for 3 dozen. When we started pulling crabs out of the bag to start our feast we were happily amazed at how large and meaty they were. There were over 3 dozen crabs and only one in the whole batch was a medium. We ate until we were stuffed and still had crabs leftover. Rich sat and picked them that night and we had leftovers the next night with enough still leftover for a crab quiche. Spot has become a hit or miss over the years. Unfortunately it's hard to know what you're getting until you open up the bag at home - I'm no expert on crabbing season or how crab places work so I try to give the benefit of the doubt to this place since they have to work with what their shipment brings in. I'd suggest coming earlier in the evening to pick up your crabs, and definitely opt for the larger ones if you can! Most of the medium sized ones are watery males that will have you biting into more shell than meat, but there's usually a handful of decent ones here and there. You can, however, always count on the other non-crab seafood at Cameron's. A little pricey but the steamed jumbo shrimp are always delicious and a great pairing to go with the crabs! read more

This review is only for the spiced shrimp - I've come here for years to eat Cameron's spiced shrimp. Currently, a pound is 20 bucks so pricing wise for the quantity hurts quite a bit and it'd be the equivalent of a meal elsewhere. However, their shrimp has been fresh and juicy, and it's easy to peel. They also put extra old bay on top and provide cocktail sauces. Cameron's is a small store and you basically walk up to the cashier to order what you want fro. Their menu. They offer a selection of both cooked and non cooked seafood. Make sure to ask others if they're in line or not - it can be unclear who's waiting for their order and who's waiting in line. I've never tried the other stuff, but everything is just so expensive that it's deterring me from visiting more often. Also the place inside doesn't seem as clean as it could be, so it might be worth cleaning in case. Your mileage may vary, but when I went today, there were a ton of people ordering as usual! read more

Great - when the fish is fresh. It often isn't. I have had sensational bluefish from Cameron's at a time when nobody else carries bluefish anymore. But a few days later I bought rockfish and when I took it home, I realized it was several days old. Smelled a but. I cooked it thoroughly and had it for dinner and it was fine but mostly tasteless. If you're buying fish at Cameron's, just assume most of what's behind the counter is old. Be sure yo ask "What came in today?" Maybe call in advance to see what's just come in. I frequent Cameron's often. In these days of COVID-19, I requested their Ultimate Seafood Platter (broiled) for my birthday. Happily ate it at home, and their hush puppies are about the only thing I will break my diet for. Their crabs are big and meaty, and the only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think their crabs are very overpriced. I've gotten steamed crabs from them at least 5 times this season, and paying $70 a dozen last weekend was ridiculous! Food use to taste fresh and real. I use to go to the Silver Spring location all the time and the food was just splendid (unfortunately they closed down) . I went on Monday because I was truly craving some crab legs and quite honestly that will probably be the only thing I ever purchase from them moving forward. I ordered a crab cake sandwich platter and it tasted like COMPLETE FILLER and slightly uncooked. The fries weren't crispy or hot and fresh either. More than disappointed then ever before. They don't even pre season the crab legs with old bay anymore, but that's okay because they gave me a little container with plenty to sprinkle over myself (even though I had to ask for it ). What is summer without crabs! I love ordering crabs from Cameron's they can be a bit high but expect good quality, worth the price. A half bushel of male crabs are about $150, a full bushel is about $250. Do not even waste your money on the female crabs, they are way too small. I love the streamed shrimp as well, expect big fresh shrimp with plenty of seasoning. I suggest calling ahead especially during the warmer months, it can be very crowed and everyone wants seafood. read more

You must admit that sometimes it's difficult or even impossible to know whether a batch of blue crabs will be good or not. This is because they may look red hot spicy delicious on the outside but quite disappointing on the inside. Besides getting fresh or prepared seafood, they also have cooked dishes like sandwiches and subs. I've tried the fried oyster and crab cake sub (comes accompanied by delicious beer battered fries and coleslaw). Both subs taste great, very satisfying! I ordered the Haddock Basket and Cream of Crab Soup and was not overly impressed. First, the haddock portion was terribly small, just a few strips. High marks for the French Fries that came with the basket. The texture of the soup base was consistent and not too thin, had decent flavor, but lacked crab bits and chunks. The service was quick and my order was turned around quickly. The staff was friendly and attentive. Platter of salt... After years of enjoying seafood at Cameron's I'm done. I picked up an ultimate Seafood platter today--Order #44. When I got home, I noticed that the scallops looked odd. Upon tasting the scallops, I discovered that the scallops were so LOADED with salt that they were tasteless and had an odd texture. The crab cake and shrimp were also extremely salty, also. I called Cameron's (Central Avenue) and told them that the food too salty to eat. They said that I could return the platter for a refund. Unfortunately, I have to go to a meeting and don't have time to drive 40 minutes to return the platter so I threw the platter of salt in the trash. Stopped in this weekend for a bushel of live crabs. The place was fully stocked with fresh fish and shellfish, everybody spoke English and folks on the phone and at the registers were fast and friendly. I like to order my crabs live because I prefer to cook them myself. You also then don't get stuck with overcooked mushy crabs. I called around and Cameron's had the best prices in the area for a bushel of mixed M/L crabs. When I ordered the crabs I asked how fresh they were ("they came in this morning") and confirmed they were all alive/lively crabs... Unfortunately, I had at least 16 dead crabs in my bushel. I cooked them two hours after I purchased them. I kept the crabs cool, with access to air, so they should have survived just fine once I had them. There is no way I lost 16 crabs in the two hours since they were packed, so either knowingly or unknowingly they put dead crabs in my bushel which was sorted to order. I don't cook the dead crabs because I don't know how long they've been dead. With crab prices being as high as they are, it's a shame to have so much loss. On the upside, the fresh basket was stuffed with about 75 crabs. I liked that I got an actual bushel basket as some places tend to hand me a couple paper bags or a 2/3 full cardboard box and say it's a bushel... but when you get them stuffed in a full basket, you know the quantity is fair. Sadly, we don't have a lot of options in the area for crabs. I guess you just factor the dead crab into your purchase, or after they give the crabs to you sort them immediately in the parking lot yourself and get any dead crabs replaced with live ones. That'd be a pain, but is the only way I can think to avoid it. A live crab will either try to bite you, or be slow and lethargic but still keep all limbs close to his body. When all limbs flop loose like a puppet and even the claws are loose when you open and close them...the sucker is dead. That said, it is one of the only true seafood markets in the area and this is my first time coming by in prime season (summer). The market was a lot more lively that when I've been by in the winter, and as I said, well stocked with seafood. I'd come back, but I think you really have to take ownership for checking the quality yourself before purchase. read more

Not only is it a seafood market, but they do a bustling takeout business in cooked-to-order seafood platters. The crabcake platters (only $6.99 on Wednesdays) are full of crabmeat chunks with minimal fillers, and the oysters and fish are cooked right out of the display cases. The steamed spiced shrimp are huge, and on Sunday and Monday nights they have a buy one - get one free special on them. Tons of fried seafood options on the pegboard menu (catfish, whiting, grouper, shrimp, and oysters - and if you can't make up your mind, they also have two different combo platters) but they also have grilled fish options (tuna, swordfish, or salmon) for the health-conscious - just make sure you ask for rice and steamed veggies with your order, or else you'll get greasy fries and coleslaw, throwing your health consciousness out the window. Disappointingly, they're not open very late (closing at 8 pm, and open only until 8:30 in the summer months), so if you get a hankering for hot out-of-the-fryer seafood, you'd better have it pretty early! read more
