Camp Bow Wow Hicksville is my dog's favorite place to be! My dog Apollo has been going there for almost a year, and I cannot recommend it enough. He is always extremely excited to go, and comes home sleepy and happy. I recently boarded him and it was also a great experience (thank you for getting me in at the last minute during a very busy holiday weekend!). My dog absolutely loves it, but my favorite part is how amazing the staff is. You can see them on cams constantly giving the dogs love. I've tried other daycares where staff is constantly on their phones instead of watching the dogs (which is a recipe for disaster). But this place is amazing. Everyone's constantly moving, constantly keeping an eye on them, constantly engaging with them. I had only brought my dog in twice, before I had to take a two month break due to my dog needing a rhinoscopy (unrelated to daycare, it was because she inhaled a pebble on one of her walks around a construction site near my home). To my surprise, even with having only attended twice, followed by a months long hiatus, they immediately recognized me and my dog by name the second I walked in the door for an unplanned drop off. He was doing great initially and so they encouraged my fiancé to leave. 20 minutes later they called and said our dog attacked another dog unprovoked, that he would have to be picked up immediately and wasn't welcomed back. The huskey that was apparently attacked was jumping all over other dogs when I watched the videos. Pretty sure the huskey was the problem (probably belongs to someone who works there) as my dog had never once attacked another dog, person, or anything for that matter. The employees at Camp Bow Wow are so nice and accommodating! They spend time with you and your dog and explain everything. I love the cameras as I was able to watch her play all day. I took my puppy here for the first time for an interview and a trial as she hasn't been around very many dogs before. She was shy at first, but the employees were so loving and kind and she had the best time. She passed out in the car and slept for almost 5 hours! Ok so this review has been in the pipeline as I needed time to review my experience, the service I received and ultimate outcome to my visit. I want to be as fair as possible as I really do like the staff, owners, features and location. I boarded my dog from Sept 3-Sept 10 2017, a full 8 days. I did the initial day where they check my dog's (Samantha) behavior as an assessment. I think this is a great service to determine if a dog is well behaved or not. Samantha passed with flying colors. I really like the cameras throughout the facility and was able to watch Samantha play and have a good time during her assessment. Now the longest I have ever boarded Samantha was for 2 days so this would be the longest time away from me. I was viewing the cameras and everything looked great and as with any dog they do get depressed if several days go by without seeing their Pawrents. I had several friends also check the cameras as my internet was not the greatest. During the one of the days my friend noticed Samantha was by herself and perhaps they were placing the dogs in their cabins for the afternoon but Samantha was laying there alone with the one staff worker. The person supposedly dragged her by the collar in order to get her to listen. Now I did not see this footage nor did the owners and when it was brought to their attention it had been too far back for them to go and review. (They stated that they have since updated their cameras to be able to go further back). My friend did not reach out to me immediately as I was outside of the country and he did not want to upset me while I was away. David reassured me that if any of the staff would do anything like that they would be fired. I understand that video proof is needed to make a call like that but ultimately that footage was not recovered. When I returned and picked up Samantha her behavior seemed fine and she was clearly happy to see me. When I got home that night with her I noticed a large patch matted to her fur. It looked infected and I scheduled a vet visit right away. Now the vet is stating that it was either a hot spot caused by impact or perhaps a hot spot just being caused from stress. I've never had this happen to Samantha so this was all new to me. The images of the area look like bite marks from probably another dog trying to dominate her. The owners were apologetic and tried to do everything in their power to get to the bottom of this. They had staff meetings and asked everyone they could about any altercation that Samantha may have been involved in. Sadly nothing was uncovered but I believe they did do all they could. I understand that in a group of dogs things happen. I just wish I could have found out what did happen. One other thing is that I had Samantha's food labeled for each day with proper vitamins added for the day meals and none for the night. It appears they removed the food from the initial containers to place them in their containers. I understand they have a process but in the future I would like them to keep to the system I had in place. In conclusion it is still a great place and I get a vibe that everyone there cares for the dogs especially the owners. My experience was less than stellar but Samantha came back to me in good shape. They understand the feelings of a dog parent and do all they can to accommodate. In a kind gesture of good will they were willing split the vet bill with me. They gave me $50 of the $100 vet bill. Thank goodness it wasn't more. Will I be back? Not sure yet. If Doug or Dave read this please let me know if I left anything out or was incorrect in any of the details. Just picked up my almost 3 yr old 50lb pup up from a half day of daycare. I love being able to check on her on the app (they have cameras set up in each play yard) she has a great time running around and being with other dogs (as we don't have other pets at home). Shes pretty shy and this has been doing great and getting her to be more social. She was pretty nervous when i brought her last week (she does have diagnosed anxiety) but this time she did great! Every member of the staff that ive met so far has been super kind. We are dropping her off for a couple nights next weekend while we r at a wedding and they have definitely made me feel comfortable about doing so! read more

We love this place! I have a very social puppy that loves to play with other dogs. I usually drop him off for a half day occasionally when he needs more exercise and play. Was very disappointed on the experience for my 4 month old grandog rescue..she was there less than an hour before we got a call saying she was aggressive and should be picked up..she is a playful 4 month old puppy who likes to sniff, jump on and play with other dogs.. She was squirted with water and had a horn blown at her to make her stop acting normal.... the owner or manager suggested that maybe she behaved like she did because of being part Pit......she actually has no pit in her... We have been boarding our dog at Camp Bow Wow in Hicksville for several years and have been generally satisfied with its service. We recently boarded him there and provided explicit instructions that he be given one bag of dry food and one jar of baby food each meal. The location's manager Britney wrote the instructions on the intake sheet. When we picked our dog up we discovered that he had not been fed the baby food we provided. Britney acknowledged this was a mistake. Without me asking, she told me that she would request that the owners refund the entire cost of the stay. I spoke with the owner David later that day. He acknowledged the mistake, told me that he agreed with Britney's recommendation and would refund me the cost of the stay, and investigate what happened. David phoned me a couple of days later with the results of his investigation. His staff told him that they unilaterally decided not to feed our dog the baby food. He agreed that his staff should have phoned us before unilaterally making this decision. Nevertheless, David informed us that our dog was no longer welcome to board at Camp Bow Wow. I told David I was shocked that, notwithstanding his admission that our instructions were simple, that we did nothing wrong, and that his staff should have called us, we were being banished. He refused to budge, and reiterated that we can no longer board our dog at the Hicksville location. It is certainly a bizarre reaction where a business admits it's error, the customer is willing to continue patronizing the business, but the business refuses. One would think the business's reaction would be "give us another chance, we want to show you how good we are." This certainly does not place Camp Bow Wow in a favorable light. This is not the facility for you if you are concerned whether your simple instructions will be followed, and if you bring any mistake to their attention you will be punished for it. read more

My dog liked (he wasn't in love with the place but tolerated it)...coming here until he got Kennel Cough. 8/8/19 was when he was last there. He contracted KC, was coughing and hacking all weekend 8/16/19...took him to Vet today, he was diagnosed with KC., doctor said it must have definitely come from the day camp! It takes 10 days to 2 weeks to show! My daughter's two pups were also there on the same day, doctor said they'll come down with it too!! The vet cost $49 for antibiotics! They need to warn customers if KC is going around there!!! There were so many dogs there that day, I even commented that it was the most crowded I'd ever seen! It's all about the money! The staff is exceptional. The facility is inviting and always kept in the best shape. The prices are reasonable and you will often pay just as much to hire a dog walker for 30 minutes. They truly have you and your dogs best interest in mind. I am thankful that Meadow has a place to socialization and get exercise while I work. I was so Happy last year when the Hicksville Camp Bow Wow opened up. It's a hop skip and jump from where I live. The facility is clean, the owner and staff are very friendly, and my Bailey loves going there . I take her for day camp approximately once every week or two. I had a very positive experience at Camp Bow Wow and would definitely recommend to others. My one and only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the hours (7 AM - 7 PM) are slightly inconvenient for me since I work in NYC. Review: I brought my dog into to CBW today for an interview. My dog and I were warmly greeted by the nicest and friendliest staff I have ever met at a doggie day camp. Once she was cleared for vaccinations she was brought to the back to meet some of the other dogs. Since the facility just opened a week or two ago, there weren't a ton of dogs (maybe about 6 or so). I left her there for a little over 3 hours, as required and she definitely had a blast (judging by the fact that she slept for the rest of the day!!). I asked a zillion and one questions and received a tour of the facility, which was very nice and clean. I listed below the Pros and Cons, IMHO: Pros - Very friendly, nice, patient staff - Clean facility - Can watch dogs via an app on the iPhone. LOVE this!!!!! - Dogs have full access to an outside area via an extra large "doggie door." They can go in and out freely. - Full supervision when dogs are playing inside or outside - Dogs are in day camp from the time they enter, until the time they leave (unless they are staying overnight and/or after they eat); other places put dogs in the kennel during certain hours - Grooming on site - Overall, they seem to be very accommodating - No pressure to purchase anything - They provide you with a "report card" and a cute little certificate with your dog's photo. - Overnight kennels are a decent size Cons - Hours are 7-7; I work in NYC so pickup will definitely be a challenge - Slightly higher price than what I pay now, but there are several "pros" that justify the extra $. read more

I am very impressed with CBW. If it weren't for the barking you would never know there were dogs there. The place is spotless. No smell of urine feces or ammonia either. The staff is very friendly and the animals trust them. My skittish puppy after brief apprehension goes off with them happily. The internet cameras are a great relief. You can see your pet play and more importantly see how the staff treats your pet. I only wish 2 things to make it perfect. 1) latter evening hours by at least 1 hour. 2) cameras in the overnight area. I'd like to check in on my pup at night. Waiting to see her till 7 am from 7pm is a long time. Those are truly knit picking complaints because I can't complain about a single thing otherwise. read more

Caring owner and staff. Beautiful new building. This is my first experience here for doggie day care. I have a 5 year old husky and a 7 month old pointer mix puppy. Needless to say they're both high energy dogs. Doug, one of the owners took the time to answer all my questions and gave me a tour of this spectacular place. Very VERY impressed. The dogs are separated by size and temperament - very reassuring because the husky doesn't always get along with smaller dogs. Each dog run has plenty of play area and even some bridges for them to run across and under. There is a staff member that carefully monitors the dogs in every yard. But the best part is being able to watch the dogs on a live camera feed! Will definitely be retuning here in the future. read more

My family and I are constantly recommending Camp Bow Wow Hicksville to friends/acquaintances/strangers - theres not a bad thing I can say about this place! We have used both their day-time dog-care and overnight boarding (We sent our puppy Lincoln for 12 nights while we were on vacation), - sometimes we send him solely because he's been bored/getting into trouble for a few days and has too much energy. - Very Clean - Gives us peace of mind knowing he's safe and having a great time. If you want to know your pet is safe, being active and being treated well when you are not around, this is the place to come to. The staff is always so friendly to both me and my dogs, as well as knowledgeable, professional and helpful. I love that I never have to second guess that my dogs are safe or playing when they're here. Before using CBW, I boarded my dog at another daycare/boarding place. No cameras, people at the front were rude. I picked my dog up when my vacation ended and checked his activity monitor (which shows how long he played, how intensely he played, when he rested, etc) attached to his collar--almost no activity. My dog basically sat in a 18sq foot "suite" for most of the week I was gone. I also tried another dog daycare where from day one the owner was nasty off the bat to both me and the dogs, didn't check or even ask if I had their vaccinations, didn't do a "try-out" to make sure my dogs temperaments were okay (my dogs were fine but if he didn't do try outs for anyone who knows if my dogs were playing with aggressive dogs). Anyway both these "bad" daycares were significantly less expensive and closer to home. But neither of them could compare the peace of mind I have of knowing my dogs are having fun, being active, and being safe at Camp Bow Wow. So I'll pay the extra money and drive 40 minutes from home just so they can go here. It's worth it to know my boys are okay. read more

Can't say enough about this "doggie camp!" My "Pia" boarded here in September and had a wonderful experience. We were nervous, as she was a recent rescue, with separation anxiety, and this was her first time boarding. When we picked her up and walked her before the car trip home, she actually pulled us back to the front door, to go in again!! The staff, was "mature," caring and very professional. When she came home, there was no "digestive or emotional upsets." It was as if we never left her for 4 days. I used to LOVE this place, it was my go to for my dog. Last time I picked him up he was sick and ended up with a $400 vet charge. It turns out that he had gotten kennel cough from one of the other dogs there - meaning that they do not check all their dogs bordatella vaccine or this would not occur. He had also been scratched by another dog on his eyeball and needs eye drops with steroids to prevent infection and possibly turning blind. I called them to let them know about all of this and the girls I talked to there were extremely helpful and all wanted to help me! I loved the help I got from them but the owner also called me and I got a very different perspective from his part. Instead of trying to help he was trying to find excuses. He did end up Helping me with a tiny portion of the vet bill, but did not receive a refund for my dogs stay there or anything else. Also, extremely rude demeanor from the owner over the phone. I wish I could say I'll go back because I do love the people who work there but due to the owners behavior and that he simply could not own up to that they had done something wrong.
