Wish I had discovered this quaint cafe earlier! Tucked away onto a random street in midtown Houston (the whole cafe is a two-story home), this coffee shop is bright and well-lit by natural lighting, has really unique coffee selections and pastries, and many cultural community event offerings. Everything from the furniture to cutlery to glasses is beautiful and goes well together. The staff is very friendly and happy to explain the menu. The coffee is rich and flavorful, and there are some really interesting flavors I have yet to try. On Thursdays, there is a special where you can get an Addis latte (kind of sweetened latte) and a lentil sambusa for $7 only! I've only been here on weekday afternoons/late mornings, and the street parking is plentiful and seating has never been an issue (which is something I worried about since it's in a home structure). There are couches and more solo seating arrangements upstairs and standard tables and couches downstairs. Overall, highly recommend coming to study or catch up with people! It's cozy but sleek, with enough little nooks tucked throughout that you can genuinely disappear into your work. What a lovely spot! We walked in during their weekly Ethiopian coffee ceremony, and we learned so much about the origins of coffee and the rich traditions behind it. Next time I Need to return for the coffee ceremony every second Saturday of the month! Super local roasting, like in the backyard. They offered a peanut snack to accompany the coffee, similar to Indian chevdra. I also opted for a sambusa, which is similar to samosas. Just the cultural similarities here made my coffee loving heart so happy. A word to the wise, read parking signs carefully, especially during the work week. They're a small business, so exercise your kindness when in a long line (probably a good sign of their success). I'll take my family here the next time they're in town. read more

Kefita Coffee has been on my list for a while, and I finally made it in because they were offering a seasonal menu that was changing. This is such a cute coffee shop that feels deeply rooted in community. It felt that way because people seemed familiar with each other. Customers were greeting one another as they came in, the baristas appeared to know many of the regulars, and even the way the space is set up adds to that welcoming, neighborhood feel since it's literally inside a two story house. The space has multiple levels with plenty of seating. You can sit upstairs, downstairs, at the bar, or outside on the patio, which gives you a lot of flexibility depending on your vibe. I tried their seasonal flight, which came with three hot coffee drinks (and I am normally an iced coffee girl). The flight included the Korerima honey butter, candy yams, and cornbread crunch flavors. I love the idea of a coffee flight. It is such a fun way to try multiple flavors at once, and at $15, it felt reasonably priced. The cornbread crunch ended up being my favorite, which surprised me. I really thought the candy yam would be the standout, but I did not quite get that strong yam flavor I was expecting, so that one was a bit of a letdown for me. I also feel like instead of tape there could be cuter labels for the flights. One of the biggest wins for me is that they are dog-friendly, and your dog can be inside! Coming from Los Angeles, that is a huge plus. My dog loved it, and they even made him a puppuccino, which was super sweet. The Wi-Fi is great, and the overall vibe leans more quiet and relaxed. I would not recommend this as a place to take meetings or be on calls, but it is perfect if you are looking for somewhere calm to read, focus, or get work done. The coffee is amazing, the first time I visited I got the espresso flight and the second time I got the pour over. Both were excellent choices. Service was top notch! My roommate and I came here because we wanted a new, unique place to study, so we stumbled across Kefita! I believe there was only street parking in the nearby neighborhoods, but honestly, it wasn't bad at all. The best way to describe this place is a coffee shop within a house, and the interior was absolutely gorgeous. There's plenty of seating, and the upstairs even has its own kitchen and living room. Fast and friendly service too! Admittedly, the coffee was just fine. I was excited to try Ethiopian coffee, and ordered the Iced Addis latte. Overall, I found it tasted comparable to other iced lattes at other spots; however, I felt it was watered down and didn't have a creamy consistency. I also ordered the Sambusa; the filling and sauce were delicious, but I was not a fan of the crust's texture. It was difficult to bite into because of the hard shell; this could be the nature of Sambusas, since this was my first time having them, but I was hoping for a flakier, crunchier texture. My first time visiting on a Saturday afternoon. There was actually an event going on for vision boarding for 2026 outside on the patio. And Crumbville Cookies was inside selling cookies for the pop up as well. I'm a chocolate chip cookie monster, so of course I had to partake. Parking- didn't see a dedicated lot unless I missed it? But there is street parking right out front and the side streets. Service- was sweet. The owner Ruby rang me up after I checked out there seasonal menu. And she delivered my coffee to me after I sat down upstairs. She recommended to use oak milk instead of my usual almond with my matcha flight to make it a better tasting, so I decided to go with that. Drink- I went with a Matcha flight. Which includes cornbread (more sweet then savory), sweet potatoe (my favorite of the 3), and kermita (which was like a biscoff or cookie butter flavor). After I ordered I got to explore the house turned coffee shop. Definitely cutesy and cozy. Merch for sale and nicely decorated with Ethiopian style decor. I like that there are multi areas to enjoy to lounge, study, work, or chat. There is an outside patio, for a nice day with umbrellas to block too much heat. Plus a downstairs with a nice playlist jamming. And there was upstairs, which is a quiet space for studying, working, reading. There's even an open kitchen up there. And they have a printer in one of the room for guests to use, plus wifi. My only real complaint was the coffee was warm but not hot. Which honestly I was ok with. As its easier for me to try all the drinks more quickly rather than waiting for them to cool off. Will for sure return. I love that they have a whole book rack for reading if you didn't bring anything yourself to read. Plus books all over for you to pick up or put down. Kefita coffee has very quickly become a go to coffee spot and definitely feels like a local gem. Its bones are that of a home but its been opened up and lightened to make a very welcoming and calm space. It has wonderful study vibes and is surprisingly large with an upstairs space as well. Every time I've come the staff has been extremely kind and friendly. They have wonderful Ethiopian coffees along with coffee house staples. I like their rotating menu and was able to try a corn crunch cortado as well as their sweet yam latte. Both were really great and had subtle but distinct flavors that went really well with their coffee. I've also tried the Addis latte and really enjoyed the brown sugar and vanilla flavors. Their baked goods have also been great with the love bun being a standout cream cheese filled laminated pastry. But perhaps one of the biggest surprised for me was their breakfast tacos. Come on Sunday and get their special taco, it has been my favorite breakfast taco in town so far. The tortilla comes off almost like a paratha of sorts and the filling is sooo flavorful. I'd be back every Sunday for them if I could afford to eat out all the time haha. Anyways, this seems like a lowkey but amazing spot in the midtown area. Wow, never have I ever had such an amazing experience from an Ethiopian coffee shop and the people whom run it. The mother-daughter duo here is unparalleled. You walk into a house that has been converted into a coffee house/arts space. At first, it throws you off. Is this a coffee spot?! Then, you find out they have converted the space into sections of a house where you can work and gather for a nice time. I met the daughter and she was very kind enough to show me around and walk me thru the menu. The menu is decorated with Ethiopian themed drinks and food. I had the single origin Ethiopian blend latte with a side order of the candied yam. The coffee was very light and had hints of berry in the tasting notes and the candy jam as a side was a nice pairing with the coffee. The ambience is that of a old-school retro Ethiopian house with wall art, coffee sets, and tons of cultural decorative pieces around the house. This was such a creative idea for a coffee house and working space and I hope this place grows continuously. The daughter also is in charge of the marketing which you can see the dedication and work with the graphics is phenomenal and very professional. Super cute and homey feeling coffee shop which makes sense because the exterior literally looks like a house (but also because of that it can be easy to drive right past them) The barista was chill and nice. I opted for the Kefita Latte which was creamy. I wish I could taste the cinnamon a little more but still not bad. I had visited basically right when they opened and he had let me know that the breakfast tacos weren't available yet so if that's what you're after I'd suggest going a little later. My husband and I visited on a Sunday around 2:45 pm. We easily found free street parking in front. My husband's Ethiopian so I grew to love buna and was excited to finally try this cafe out. I loved the home conversion to cafe look which gave it a chill first impression from the outside. There were covered outdoor picnic style tables outside, a cozy couch indoor sitting area and regular tables in the main dining area. The mom and daughter duo were super nice and welcoming. The daughter informed me of their monthly buna coffee ceremony which I thought was cool to showcase the culture! We ordered the buna flight, majestique tea, and baklava. The buna flight includes 3 of their latte flavors Addis, Abyssinia, & Kefita. Addis tasted like a classic vanilla latte. I really enjoyed the Abyssinia & Kefita flavors much more with the prominent spices. It came with one shot of espresso each which was sufficient caffeine for late afternoon. The baklava was a perfect crispy crunch and sweetness, which paired perfectly with the flight. We chilled there until closing at 4 pm playing Mancala & chess. Many people were coming through and there is also an upstairs area. We definitely plan to bring some friends next time to hangout. read more

The coffee shop is a repurposed house with ample indoor and outdoor seating. It is furnished and decorated with Ethiopian decor. I tried a limu lomi which is lemonade and cold brew. An unorthodox sounding mix but omg does it taste amazing. The acidity of the lemonade and the coffee make for a beautiful mix. I also tried the vegan carrot cake donuts. They were unexpectedly moist. I love coffee and am always looking to try new roasts from all over. On a recent lunch date nearby, we wanted some coffee and a place to chill and chat after lunch. I got on Yelp and found Kefita Coffee which a Ethiopian inspired coffee shop. It was definitely something new to me so I had to check it out. It is located in the Midtown area. Street parking is the thing here. It's a cute two story house which they turned into a coffee shop. It was somewhat busy when we came. There's a few different small rooms downstairs with seating as well as places to lounge upstairs. The kitchen is off to the back and where you order. Customer service was good enough. The guy behind the counter answered all questions but didn't seem to enthused to be there. Their menu consists of a bunch of different items. They have regular coffee and espresso drinks you see at every coffee shop, but they also have unique signature drinks as well as non espresso drinks like teas and such. I wanted to try the Ethiopian inspired items and they have a coffee flight that let me try them all. It had three of their signature drinks. The first was the Addis Latte. This was a brown sugar and vanilla latte. It was my favorite one. Simple but so so good. Next was the Abyssinia Latte. It was made with syrup made with Ethiopian spices. It was an interesting drink to me. It was good but the flavors were a tad bit confusing to me. Not something I would get again. The last was the Kefita Latte which had honey and cinnamon flavors. I've never had that combination but it worked and was delicious. The flight was a great way to see what they were working with. They also have hot and cold foods. We didn't partake this time. Overall, this is a very solid coffee spot. If you want something a little different, check this place out. read more

Very cute coffee shop located in a refurbished house. Ample seating - inside, outside- upstairs. One of the very few places that has a coffee flights with seasonal fun flavors. What I enjoyed was how premium the coffee was. Usually when I've ordered something with yam or potato - it is usually too sweet and tastes like milk and syrup. The pastry I got - it looked like a kouign amann - was fluffy, buttery, and just among of sweet. The staff was also just warm and friendly. A very great unique spot. read more

Stopped by Kefita Coffee while working from home and really enjoyed the vibe. I grabbed an iced flat white, treated myself to a chocolate croissant, and couldn't resist trying a sambusa too. The coffee was smooth and strong--exactly what I needed to power through the rest of my afternoon. The croissant was solid, flaky, and hit the spot. The sambusa wasn't my favorite; it had a bit too much pastry for my taste, but the lentil filling was flavorful and well-seasoned. What really stood out to me was the space--tons of room to spread out and work or just hang out. It's bright, welcoming, and has a really chill energy. The record player and curated music give it a warm, personal touch that makes you want to linger a little longer. I have visited Kefita twice now and they have become one of my favorite coffee spots. On this visit I was recommended to get the Abyssinia Latte with Lavender. I got it iced and the flavor was awesome. Their coffee has a smooth, rounded taste. I got my latte balance, so not overly sweet. The service has been great on each of my visits, everyone was engaging and welcoming. There was lots of laughter and smiles between the staff, which I always appreciate. And the recommendations have been spot on so far. On my last visit I got the Afrique, iced, and also an almond croissant. Also 10/10 for both of those. Kefita is inside of a house, there is outdoor seating, indoor couches and tables/ chairs. It's a cute setup with a very warm feel to it. It's becoming one of my regular places to visit. read more

Rating is 3.5 stars. So my first impression is to not come here on a Sunday early afternoon around 11:35-12 PM because it gets extremely busy & there is no parking close by. My sisters & I got inside around 11:40 AM, waited in line for some time, and then for our coffee/matcha until about 12:35-12:45 PM. It was very packed in here when we first got here, but when we finally left, we saw that there was some event outside and tons of people, so it then made sense as to why things were taking so long. I will say that the people who worked there were kind. The drinks that we got were okay. They were definitely unique. Two of us got the ruby red (which is a dirty matcha), one Abyssinia latte, & one Addis latte. Overall, I'll have to come here on a weekday to try other items. read more

This is by far one of my top 3 coffee shops in Houston! The coffee? Always good, never burned, fresh. The staff and owner? Amazing and so kind and loving. Always greeted when I walk in, very kind and willing to offer suggestions AND they will even make custom coffee drinks (being they have the ingredients which they do for what I request). The food?! OMG, wait until you have the goat cheese and ham croissant!! The ambiance? Super chill with calm and relaxing energy. Downstairs does play tunes, some times it can be a bit louder for what I prefer so I just go upstairs or sit outside. It's not just interesting coffees with unique flavor options (the namesake kefita latte is my favorite) -- it's a community. She showcases neighboring businesses with her food selection -- sometimes ones that I have never heard of even though I live a few blocks away. She curated a space where people work, enjoy & have deep conversations -- at the same time lifting other neighborhood businesses. While it's not inexpensive, the value you get from the space is so much more than just a drink. Midtown needs more thoughtful curation like this! read more

Hands down one of the calmest most chill Vibe location I've ever been for coffee. Reminded me of a spot back home in Florida that allowed for just a homely environment feel with great coffee choices. I was able to try their seasonal flight of coffees that included a sweet potato variety. And let me tell you it was so so good and the cornbread latte was not as sweet as I had seen others review it. Maybe it was my choice of milk that made it that much better, I wouldn't know. And they had a fried pastry stuffed with lentils and potatoes I believe with a really good hot sauce. I can't wait to go back with a book on a warmer day and sit on their little balcony. I feel like that's a place you can go and just spend a couple hours relaxing and enjoying your time. Berbere mocha - had this hot & it came out at a nice warm temp, ready to drink. I wish there was more berbere but you could definitely taste it. This was so yum! I was excited to try this place. I had heard about it and loved Ethiopian tea when I was living out in DC area. When I walked in, I was greeted by the two people working behind the counter. But there were two people sitting at the counter who stared at me and then started talking about me, but I only speak English in Spanish so I didn't know what they were saying. But they proceeded to talk about me and stare at me the whole time I was checking out and this made me very uncomfortable. And I'm guessing they were business owners and I don't think that that's how you should treat the people who come in and support your business because whenever I walked in, I said good morning to everyone. I then let it go and just go sit and drink my tea and try and work on my work. While I'm working a person comes in off the street to ask for money and the owners are visibly upset which is understandable. Also, I'm a nurse. I worked with homeless people before when I worked bedside and I just felt really bad for him. There was nothing really that they did that was wrong in that situation, but just how I was treated and then the experience of seeing someone in distress made me want to get up and leave because I no longer felt comfortable there. I unfortunately will not be returning and wish I hadn't had given them my money. However, the tea was very good...environment not so much for me today. read more

It's 9:30 on a Thursday- probably not Kefita's peak hours- but you can hear patrons laughing and chatting peacefully over hip, relaxing beats. Upstairs, a couple works on their computers, padding away productively at the keys of laptops. Maybe it's because I'm five months pregnant, but the Forward Times article Kefita has left on an ottoman upstairs brings a tear to my eye. There's a beautiful story of Ethiopian culture, family, community, and inclusivity woven into the fabric of Kefita (and you can feel that atmosphere in the re-imagined midtown two-story). Beyond the ambiance, I will have to come back for more snacks later... the chorizo/potato breakfast taco on a warm, thick pita-type bread hits the spot. The blueberry/marshmallow iced latte is refreshing and one of the better lattes I have had in recent days. Overall, Kefita has great coffee, and a palpable, peaceful spirit. I really wanted to love this coffee shop particularly since it is very close to the post office that I visit frequently. Also, I strive to patronize small businesses. However, I did not feel welcomed upon entry, it was as if the worker had to determine if I was worthy of a greeting before saying hello or good morning. Also, there was no aroma of fresh coffee, instead there was a very strong smell of incense burning.
