I like finding restaurants with a story. Read about Campisi's taking over a failed Egyptian restaurant back in the day and it had been there ever since. Also realized once I got on the street friends and I had eaten at a sushi restaurant just down the road on our last DFW visit. The dark interior vibe wasn't exactly my thing but then cell phone flashlights work wonders these days. This also proved an issue photographing the food as it arrived to the table. You'll notice some shots with flash and others without. Drinks and a beer ordered; negotiations over appetizers and entrees we settled in for lunch. The salad provided I would guess is pre dressed quite early as the lettuce is soft and wilted. Yet, the minimalist approach works in this case. And then whoa, the "Famous" Shrimp Scampi came to the table. The breadcrumbs brought an amazing element to this dish. Not exactly swimming in butter but a memorable combination of flavors. Bread was just ok. Server tried to steer me around on my two possible menu choices but I stuck with the Eggplant Parmesan. Biggest one I've ever seen paired with Fettuccine Alfredo. ----- Critics Review ----- The last 3 times here over 4 years has been horrible. Failed again tonight. I was with a friend from high school who was in town and he wanted to go to the Mockingbird location because that was the only one in the 70s-80s. My head sank because the Lovers Lane location is perfect!!! I told the waitress specifically, "an all the way pizza, minus mushrooms, triple garlic and extra crispy - so the toppings are toasted. I do not want the toppings in the center like you normally do - I want all toppings to the edge of the crust." Ugh, again - a total failure. Look at the photo! Toppings only in the center. The outer 2 inches is only cheese and garlic. You can barely see any salami or Italian sausage anc onions are everywhere. Almost under cooked - no where close to crispy! (A machine could do better!!) Of course being with my friend I could not complain. So I went to my normal location (Lovers Lane), showed the manager (Derick) the pizza Mockingbird gave me. He knows me and what I like (as does 1/2 of the staff!) He was equally appalled. I ask him to take a photo and send it to the Mockingbird manager and share my story. And throw it in the trash! I choked down 2 baby slices only to be tell my friend I has a late lunch as was full. (Mockingbird - I'LL NEVER GO BACK - EVEN IF YOU OFFER FREE FOOD FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!) Of course Derick offered to make me a replacement pizza - and I refused twice. But when he added a free bourbon and coke... I broke down and said ok - but only a small. (See 2nd photo - a perfect pie!!) Lesson learned. From now on, every friend who pops in town and wants to go to Mockingbird - I will tell them of my last 4 experiences and how Lovers Lane is the VIP place to go! Ordered delivery. It took a while as expected, but the food was warm. I got the crab claws. They tasted great but small in size compared to other places. Amazing service and pizza. Their thin crust pizza is a very appetizing and flavorful offering, this establishment has been in business for many years in Dallas and has so much history. The chopped salad was ok, but could use a little more vinaigrette dressing. Service was ok. Blasting Sinatra and Dino you'd expect more. What could be improved? Every time I have been to Campisi's, I have left full and satisfied. The staff ensure that your water is topped off, but aren't coming by too much. Every location, including this one, evokes a very intimate and warm dining environment. I tend to order a medium cheese with salami added - it's essentially a pepperoni pizza's more mature and richer cousin. Photo included! I think I prefer the Mockingbird location due to its very retro and simple design, but the food remains consistently stellar. This is a rare five stars for me. read more

I can't get this place out of my mind, but for all the wrong reasons. It was cheap and horrible and a waste of both money and appetite I just don't get it- it's EASY to make homemade tomato sauce, yet they use store bought. Everything here from the pasta sauce to the salad dressing to even the sliced garlic bread tasted store bought and loaded with preservatives. Just can't believe this crap passes. Lowest quality spaghetti sauce and bread. I would never eat here again. The spaghetti dish I got was saturated in canned marinara and the slices of garlic bread we got were brick shaped and suspiciously similar to the Texas toast loafs you get from the store. Okay, I received a call from the restaurant wanting to make it up to us. He said he was sorry and wanted to earn my business back. I was honest and told him I wasn't interested in ever going back to Campisi's after the horrible service and food we received. He said that I hope I change my mind. He said he wanted to make it up to me and that he was going to give me a full refund on my entire order. I told him thank you and that I really did appreciate the call and the refund. That's been about two weeks ago and I have yet to receive the refund. I really did appreciate the call and the conversation from him and I told him that but now I feel like a fool. Where is the refund? Where is the part where he said he wanted to make it up to me? I'd rather him not say a word about refunding the meal over saying he will and then he doesn't. Take it for what it's worth. Now he really has a lot to do to earn my business back because now he has to earn my trust as well and earning trust is worse where I come from. read more

The lasagna was really, truly great. No hint of ugly sausage in the meat sauce. The service was prompt and friendly. The pepperoni and sausage pizza was enjoyed by my son. I enjoyed it after I scraped the sausage off on to my son's pieces and dunked it in the marinara. The manager checked on us. Good pizza and great service. They introduced me to the Square Cut pizza. I believe it makes it easier to eat and enjoy your pizza. I've noticed that Marco's offers square cut pizza. I hope it catches on more. The dinner salads are nice and simple. I enjoy schmoozing with Regina Campisi who I worked with at Southwestern Bell!! Makes the meal more enjoyable. We walked in to the nice cliche restaurant. Everybody was very nice and quick to serve us, as we ordered the waiter was nice. My family and I all order a variety of different foods off the menu. We were in the area and wanting pizza. After a quick Yelp lookup to see the food, we headed straight for Campisi's. The bruchetta was lush! The tomatoes and the balsamic vinegar were absolutely delicious! I chose a small pizza with sliced meatball, green onions and mushrooms. My husband had a small BBQ chicken pizza. Stopped in for happy hour with a friend and loved the decor! Campisi's is snuggled in on a strip along Lover's. We had to drive around the block twice to find a parking space and parked out back. You can enter from the back door, as well as the front. I loved the high tables and chairs in the bar. It is cozy and the music is nice and low, making it easy to chat. The bar tender was attentive and answered our questions in a friendly tone. The Tuscan salad was so fresh. My buddy & I shared some artichoke hearts. The buttery sauce was perfect - not too overpowering, they melt in your mouth. I can't wait to go back and take more friends! read more

Such an authentic Italian restaurant! Some of my favorite appetizers are the shrimp scampi, bruschetta, and the meatballs! I absolutely hate tomatoes, but I love the bruschetta at this restaurant! I've tried to remake it at home, but it's never the same. Next time, I can't wait to try the calamari! My boyfriend and I always split a pizza when we go. Never fails to satisfy us. It's our go to when we come to Dallas! Had to edit because I recommended it to my friends and they were just as pleased as me with the food! Three of us got pizzas, and one friend got some of the shrimp scampi and I am convinced to get it next time. Mark was our fabulous server at the Lover's Lane, while my boyfriend and I usually eat at the original location on Mockingbird, he made it feel like home! Some of the best thin crust pizza I've ever had. It's wonderful that they have tasty gluten free (GF) options as well. Just add $3 to any pizza to have it made with gluten free crust though you can only get a GF pizza in a small. My favorite pizzas are the: Chicken Spinach Alfredo Pizza. Grilled Chicken, Spinach with Alfredo Sauce S $14.60 | M $18.60 | L $20.60 Greek Pizza. Roma Tomatoes, Black Olives, Feta Cheese, Artichoke Hearts, Red Onion S $18.90 | M $22.90 | L $24.90 They're both so good. I'm just a little disappointed in their Small Pizza prices/size. They are very much a "personal sized pizza" that you could maybe share with two, keep in mind they are thin crust and cut into squares. We also tried their Joe's Special Garlic Toast $5.25 with Baked Provolone Cheese $1. Not worth it, just some basic bread. The marinara sauce is kind of watery too. I'd just spend the money on a larger pizza. Oh and avoid ordering the dinner salad, it's a big rip off. We got a large salad and it was definitely just a cut up iceberg lettuce with 2 peppers, a few olives, and lame Italian dressing (basically just oil).
