This is probably one of the best Dominican spots out there. You can't beat the quality, price and how much food you get. The empanadas are $1.50 each, I love the beef but the chicken is usually as good. Not to mention they are huge and delicious. My go to is the mofongo. I get the pernil and chicken ones all the time but have yet to try the shrimp because it seems they never have it. Rice and beans are delicious and the stew chicken is juicy and flavorful. It's a your basic no frills Spanish take out spot so don't expect to be wowed by the looks. Check them out for some seriously good take out. read more

Came here for the first time. I am not a resident of SI, so I am not familiar with any good eats on the neighborhood. I was in the area and had a taste for some Spanish food, specifically Mangu. The food is laid out behind a glass window for you to see. I got there at about 10am and they had a good spread! The nice woman behind the counter told me it would take 30mins for the Mangu. I did not have time to wait so she suggested Tres Cople (might be spelling it wrong) with green plantain. The salami, fried cheese, and egg were made to order! They give you a nice portion size. Maybe even good for two. Food was tasty! The salami and fried cheese were sliced very thick, but still good! I definitely found a go to spot for when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

On the way to Staten Island on the job and colleague kept going on and on about this place. In fact she raved! No exaggeration she said she thinks about their pulled pork at nights and couldn't wait to get back so this was our first stop as we got into SI. What a build up she gave and as I walked through the doors the smell that greeted me made me silently pray she knew what she was saying. People! I urge you, ignore that smell. Mind you it isn't a foul smell but I guess the mixture of so many different meats and food made me a bit queasy. (She later admitted the same). Pork lovers get the pulled pork with whichever rice tickels your fancy. I had the rice and peas while she opted for the yellow rice. After tasting both she said the (brown) rice and peas won. The pork, no let me pay it the respect it deserves...SIR PORK she did not do you enough justice! We were allowed to tell the server which parts of it we preferred and my personal feeling on pork is if it ain't fat it's beef. Lean pork? Naaaah. Lol. So I chose my skin, not the fatty parts below and a bit of lean. It was soft yet firm, juicy yet dry, spicy but not overpowering, well marinated. Pork haven I tell you! And they packed our containers! I had breakfast AND lunch from this meal the following day! Maybe I'm a bird eater because mama ate all hers. Lol. Please, if you're a pork lover like I am, see beyond the look of this shop. It's a bit too run downy for my taste because after all it's FOOD you serve here but judging from the accents and language I take it it's an authentic Spanish joint. We obviously did takeout. Last time I came there was a language barrier as I don't speak Spanish or minimal from what I remember from HS, but there was no language barrier this time I ordered. I'm not saying it's a huge issue but it can be frustrating sometimes for a nonnative speaker who enjoys other cultures' food; that's why I wanted to say I ordered without an issue. This place is certainly in an awful spot with a bunch of guys hanging out outside harassing women. While the food is good, I usually take my meal home with me. Today, I checked online and the site claims that they deliver. So, I ordered my meal at 12:36 p.m., by 12:45 a delivery man called my cell phone. I didn't know why he wouldn't ring my bell until he started forcing me to come outside due to parking issues. I saw through my window that his car was double parked on the street. I informed him that I am on the first floor. He said he would meet in the lobby. I went in the lobby, he wasn't there. I called him again on his cell phone; he didn't pick up. I knocked the window to indicate that I am on the first floor, he should come in, and it wouldn't take a minute. He agreed to meet in the lobby, as he was right outside. I went back into the lobby, saw him through the double glass doors (two doors), he gestured that he wouldn't come inside the lobby and abruptly took off in his car. This is bad business, considering that some people have disabilities and cannot maneuver or venture outside. I called the restaurant to complaint, but the lady who had taken my order claims that it was up to the driver and there was nothing they could do. Minutes later, I called to suggest that he delivers through the window, but the woman placed me on hold for 14 minutes until she simply hung up the phone. While on hold, I could hear the chatting inside the restaurant. She was pretending to have forgotten the call. This is bad business, unprofessional conduct, misrepresentation and discrimination for people with a disability. Someone should investigate this business practice and hold them accountable. At 1:36 p.m., I called again to make sure that I was not hallucinating. A woman answered the phone. She stated that she was not the one who had placed me on hold. She got the lady who had me on the phone for 14 minutes. This woman asked to know why I didn't hang up the phone and called back. Her attitude about the matter didn't change, apparently because it was up to the driver to make the delivery. I informed the woman that I was planning to report them to the government because what was happening sounded illegal practice. "I'm giving you a chance to resolve this issue." She seemed to get the message. "I'll talk to him." She promised. Today is 04/05/18. It is 1:50 p.m. and I don't want the food anymore for a second thought that the driver will spit in it. Try the Rotisserie Chicken with the white rice and beans. too delicious. only 5 dollars. all home made, nothing bad here no watery attempts like the Golden Krust located across the street. Excellent Spanish food. Cafeteria style place with some tables. The food is in steam tables so it is fast. The kitchen is always bringing out freshly prepared food. Lots of food and easy on the wallet. I have stuck to the basics like rotisserie chicken and pernil (pork). Always happy with my meal. I think the food here is a little better than at second location near SI Yankee stadium. read more

I get so annoyed with this place!! Their food is pretty good and the service is okay, it is closer to home than Campo Bello is so I often go here instead but CB is better. M&K says they deliver on the menus, in store it even says they deliver, yet over the past year every time that I call to place an order for delivery they don't have a car or they don't have a driver, they aren't delivering at the time or some other excuse that just doesn't fly!! If you don't deliver STOP false advertising, you'd get more business if you just told the truth! One day I was really upset because I was very hungry, fixed my mouth for spanish food then because "there were no deliveries being made" AGAIN I had to walk down in the cold to pick up the food, I only live a couple of blocks (6 long blocks) but the point is that is was cold. I now realize that I will never receive a delivery from them and I will only order when I can drive to pick it up but I'd appreciate it if they'd stop false advertising or hire someone to actually deliver! read more
