    Seafood set with salad
    Toshi I.

Traditional Japanese fare. I ordered the Seafood set which was ample-sized and crispy crunchy! Great food! Service was ok. I say that because we were initially going to be seated at a booth for our party of five. We requested another available table. Our orders for the garlic chicken came out wrong but the server insisted it was the right order. Later admitted it was wrong after we had already started eating. This could have been very bad if there were allergies in our party. Overall, food is great.

My wife and I had a lunch date here with her seeing "a place I'd like" on a recent shopping trip to Tokyo central. It was tasty and filling with the meal set. In fact I wasn't able to eat all of the rice, which was very good quality along with the pork, of which I ordered the garlic one. As delicious as the pork was, the pork broth miso soup, and a salad all filled me up where I couldn't finish the wife's katsu. The server was great with water, food delivery, and getting the check. I did try to use the QR code but my AT&T service was weak there so it was really laggy to the point of not being usable. They will need a WiFi hotspot if they plan to use that exclusively. The servers were on top of taking orders and everything, so it didn't matter today. Glad a new good food place has come into the area.

curry with chicken katsu :) - p.s. I asked for no rice because I'm low-carb but usually, of course, there's rice on the platter! :)

Our 2nd visit at Kimukatsu! They've expanded their menu to include "tonkatsu" now in addition to "kimukatsu". My hubby got the "pork loin tonkatsu" and I got the curry with chicken katsu (I think you can get any katsu with curry, maybe double-check with the waitstaff). We also ordered a single shrimp katsu (you can get 1 or 4) and it was SO GOOD OMG, it was delicious. Again, hands down, my hubby's fav part of the meal was the "Tonjiru" or pork soup. He really loves this (and he drank mine too LOL). I'd be interested in trying the seafood katsu & my hubby wants to try their other tonkatsu dish. But we'll def be fighting over the shrimp LOL. Highly recommend~!!!

I visited Kimukatsu near opening, and that Special Pork Cheese Millefeuille Katsu Set left a bit to be desired. The pork was definitely on the thinner end, and it was also a tad dry. The breading was remarkable, though, and it was crispy and crunchy without being a hint of oily. There were refills on cabbage and rice. The rice was fluffy and just the right portion for the modest amount of meat. The cabbage was also tasty and a good amount, though the dressing definitely needed a refill. Service was fairly quick throughout, and the meal was satisfactory. May return again in the future to satisfy katsu cravings if nearby. The atmosphere was fairly enjoyable, too, and felt very natural.

Kimikatsu, is a restaurant located inside Tokyo Central in Torrance. The parking is plentiful in the Tokyo Central lot, which makes the whole experience stress-free. The ambiance is simple and clean and good for a quick meal with family. We've been here twice, and overall had a good experience, with a few things that could be improved. First visit: We ordered the Special Pork Cheese Millefeuille Katsu Set ($19.50), Special Pork Garlic Millefeuille Katsu Set ($19.50), Kid's Plate ($8.75), and Chawanmushi ($3.25). The portions were a great size for the price, and we appreciated the free refills of rice and cabbage. The only hiccup was with timing - my husband and I received our meals, but our daughter's kid's plate didn't come out with ours. After waiting a bit, we asked a server, and she quickly apologized and brought it out, mentioning it should have come first. We also asked for a booster seat, but they didn't have one - however, they kindly offered a pillow for our daughter, which we appreciated. When we ate our food, the dishes ended up being lukewarm, not sure if it was because we had to wait for the kid's plate...but we didn't think much of it since the food was still good. Second visit: I ordered the Ume Oroshi Set, and once again, the millefeuille katsu wasn't very hot. The flavors were still good, but it felt like it would've been much better if served hot. Maybe this one was not hot because of the Ume oroshi? I preferred the Pork garlic over the Ume oroshi. Overall, the food is tasty and a good value, especially with the generous portions and refills. The concept of the layered millefeuille katsu is unique and enjoyable. The service was friendly and accommodating, especially when issues came up. That said, I do wish the food - especially the katsu and soup - came out hotter, as it would really make the food taste better. Still, we'd come back again for the value and flavors.

Kimukatsu is located within Tokyo Central. It replaced Van Show Sushi & Bar. Hubby & I came here on a Saturday evening. There was about a 40 minute wait time. It was pretty accurate and we were happy to be seated a little ahead of that approximate time. I joined the waitlist using my phone and the Yelp App while outside the restaurant. If you opt to use the Yelp App, you also need to use the kiosk (iPad) to check in so they know you've arrived. Service was good at first, but then as it got busier, the service slipped a little. We ordered a hot tea that never came and we didn't bother to ask for it. I opted for the Special Pork Cheese ($19.50) which includes Salad, Pork Miso Soup, Rice, Pickles, & Chawanmushi. I really liked the pork katsu. However, I think I would get it without cheese next time. When you order any of the sets, you can request as much rice & cabbage as you need. The Chawanmushi is included in the sets for the Grand Opening special, but I hope they keep it on the menu that way permanently. It rounds out the meal nicely! This millefeuille katsu is a new to me type of katsu where they thinly slice the pork and layer it together to form a cutlet. It really was easier to eat! I also liked that they cut the cutlet into more manageable segments. Hubby got the Katsu Curry ($18.75). The curry came out tepid. Not sure why? It was sort of bland as well. So, it was just okay. It was different from the place we go to for Japanese curry. I liked my meal more than my husband liked his, but we'll surely be back again!

Miso soup. Savory with pork slices and vegetables.

Very well known tonkatsu chain restaurant from Ebisu. They are known for their millefeuille style (layered thin slices of meat) and so had to try it. The restaurant is very bright and spacious and the service is excellent. True the pork is very tender but I prefer thicker cuts of pork (just my personal preference). I had the katsu set which was nice but the portion was slightly small. It's also cut into nugget sizes which reminded me of chick fil-A pieces. Again, just personal preference. I like to savor each part of the meal set and I thought the miso soup was excellent--very umami, with slices of pork and carrots. I also ordered chawan mushi to sample and it was very authentic and tasty. Tsukemono (pickles) were elegantly presented and crisp. Not the best tonkatsu I've ever had but all in all, a nice restaurant to have conveniently located within Tokyo central market.

Do not come here if you need a quick lunch. Assuming it would be somewhat faster than other places because it is in a grocery store, but nope. We waited over 30 minutes for our food which is pretty ridiculous. I understand its a new spot, but I've seen much smaller operations with less employees push out katsu faster than that. The prices are high $19-20 for a plate, but the katsu was delicious- perfectly crispy and thick pieces. Service was really friendly but poor, never refilled my water the entire time. Id recommend they let people know of the wait time for food up front because they are well aware it takes way too long. Also, let customers know you dont accept cash prior to the meal or make signs that are very obvious. I would wait to come here until they iron out the kinks.

Kimukatsu has arrived in Torrance! This Japanese restaurant chain that originated in Tokyo just opened up at the Tokyo Central on PCH. It takes the spot were Vanshow Suhsi & Bar once was. Kimukatsu's speciality is their multi layered pork cutlet. Instead of a single thick piece of pork, they use multiple thin layers of pork together stacked on top of one another, breaded and fried. Their menu features five special millefeuille katsu. They also have a katsu curry, a chicken katsu and a seafood katsu. All of the sets include salad, Tonjiru (pork miso soup), oshinko (pickles) and unlimited rice and cabbage. The price range for sets is $18.75 to $21.50. For today's grand opening, they also included free chawan mushi (steamed egg) with each gozen order. I got the Special Pork Cheese Millefeuille Katsu set. I was an instant fan of the crispy, juicy and tender pork. The cheese added a smooth, savory richness that matched perfectly with the crisp of the katsu. I also liked the Tonjiru. They were quite generous with the pork slices and vegetables. This soup was comforting and flavorful. Overall, I enjoyed the set meal. I could really taste the quality in their katsu and was impressed with how delicious everything was. Loved how every bite here had the perfect balance of texture and flavor. I will be back! One thing to note is Kimukatsu is credit card only.

Got the pork fillet and Millefeuille. The katsu were fried well. The salad dressing was a bit salty. Liked the food. A bit far from me compared to other katsu places and less variety of items. Overall 3.5.

Delicious! Flaky juicy chicken and melting cheese tonkatsu was beautiful. The severs are on top of things for the most part. The menu is straight forward with different tonkatsu options. It has a warm interior with an inviting design.

Shiso ume katsu with tonjiru soup and chawanmushi (added).
    Diane H.

We enjoyed our lunch. I loved the food display out front of the restaurant. Reminded me of Japan. We loved our katsu. My husband loved his nanban sauce and I loved the shiso ume on top of daikon oroshi. Of course, it was over the katsu. I added chawanmush (savory egg custard). The atmosphere was perfect and the servers were efficient, friendly, and helpful. We will be returning. Another one added to my list.

    Mikiko U.

We ordered the millikatsu and was delicious. The overall size of katsu is a little smaller, compared to some of the other milli katsu I've had, but it's still filling. Dressing for the cabbage is good. We got the egg custard (chawanmushi) and that was not as shod as I'd wanted it to be. Service was a bit slow and sometime it was hard to flag staff down. It would be nice if they just had the staff call buttons or something. Overall, I'd defiantly go back again for more and try some of their other dishes.

Look I would've given this place 3 stars, but the customer service and wait time was ridiculous. Hear me out, this is my experience from last Saturday. So first it can be challenging to find this place, since the pier has so many level to it. Look for the elevators. When you get there, for the first time, you see a main line, well for what? Then you see other lines, well for what? Then you see an oyster line, oh. In order to determine what each line is for, you have to do independent research. From whom? Well the employee, who do not show case any form of customer service. There were so many people lost and confused. To break it down, each "Order Here" has their own area of what can be ordered by the pound and/or cooked. So not all lines are equal. There is a crab line, seafood boil/pre-seasoned seafood, oyster, clams, I think I saw fish and fried platters, which was the longest. So after much deliberation, an employee managed to wrangle the customers to form a line. Although his mannerism seems like I'm just done with this place. One might consider ropes to further avoid these mundane confusions... I got Ana's seafood boil mix, $99. It came with a lobster, dungeoness crab, peeled shrimp, clams, sausage and potatoes. The employee told me about 10 mins. I'm like okaaaay, only 10? I walked to their souvenir shop, nothing crazy or must haves. Just cheap Chinese things with their name printed on. I return in 10 minutes. The guy doing prepping/expediting the pick order was in a frantic state. Older white male, white mustache. He was running around, mixing orders up, couldn't even tell what customers had what. The employee that wrangling folks came to help him collect himself. So 10 minutes wait turns to 15, 20, then 30 minutes. I had 2 other employees check up on my order, they said it's not ready. Okay. Finally about 35 minutes it's ready. He didn't even call out my order, I had to wave my ticket. The first rule of speed of service, never over sell the time. If it's gonnabe 30 mins plus, say 40 mins, gimme a bs reason, short handed, etc, I don't care! But why would you tell me it'll be 10 mins?! So finally got the food. Flavor was pretty good. Lobster, was okay. I wished the shrimp had the head on. Clams were big. Sausage was good. Potato seemed like the diced ones from a can, they were so small. The crab, however, is the driest. Yep, for a place that exclaims "Quality Seafood," it was kind've of a let down. They taste like the bottom batch of the crab at Las Vegas buffet. You know the batch that sits on the bottom, they don't ever rotate because the employees don't care. So it's just marinating in its own dry filth. The crab was so dry I could put that in an Advil bottle instead of cotton. So now if you ask me, would I come back? Maybe, just maybe. Anytime soon? Nah, not right now. Also with the mention of a tourist trap, it's no different than Seattle's Pike Place and surroundings.

I regret not coming here sooner. Have lived in the area and passed this place by dozens of times…read more My family agrees that we will definitely be returning in the future. Positives: - calamari was fried perfectly, batter was light and crunchy and seasoned nicely. - Fish and Chips: portion was HUGE could not finish it. Fish was fresh and flaky, batter was light, crispy and not oily. - Fries were crispy and nicely seasoned and not overly salted. - Coleslaw was tasty, crunchy, and not too creamy or soggy. I don't like it when coleslaw is a soupy mess. - Price was very reasonable for the quantity and quality of food we got. - Us "old folks" enjoyed the background music from the 80s. Good ambiance. Cons: - Default tip option on card scanner started at 20% for a place where you seat yourself, order at the counter, and pick up your own food when called. I manually entered 10%. - Clam chowder was good but seemed to lack something (Spice, pepper, acid?) and flavor was more creamy than I like. My wife really enjoyed it in the bread bowl and thought it was good... I barely got a taste because she went through it quickly.

It's the perfect place to stop before or after a movie, after grocery shopping at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, or even after a workout at 24 Hour Fitness. My go-to order is the salmon with garlic butter, always delicious. Somewhat recently (past year or two) they changed their rice and I'm not a huge fan of the new noodley rice. I've since swapped to roasted corn.... but I miss the original rice, especially when the garlic butter would go onto it! I also love that they have a rewards program now because I've been racking up points pretty quickly, especially since my whole family loves this place and we usually place pretty big orders! Parking is plentiful. The plaza gets busy (especially the PCH-facing side) but thankfully there's always some spots on this side.

My daughter and I shared the Caesar Salad and Chicken Paillard. The salad was good. I added the smoked fish which had a slightly sweet taste so it was not my daughter's favorite. The Chicken Paillard was amazing! The jidori chicken is very juicy but the sauce takes it to another level. I would order that dish again. Their staff is very nice and helpful. The server who kept refilling our drinks recommended we order french fries to dip into the chicken paillard sauce since we raved about it. That was a good suggestion since we were sharing the dish. Overall, this restaurant was just our style. It is cozy but elevated, the staff is attentive, and the food and wine are delicious.

After reading reviews, I came specifically for the Fish & Chips, and they absolutely delivered. But before I get to that, the service deserves a shout-out. From the hostess who greeted us to our server throughout the meal, everyone was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care that we had a great experience. We started with the calamari, which was perfectly cooked and disappeared fast. Then came the Fish & Chips. The fish was crispy, golden brown, and cooked perfectly. What really surprised me was the portion size. These weren't little pieces of fish hiding under a pile of fries--they were massive pieces of cod. My wife and I couldn't stop laughing at how much fish they served. To top it all off, we shared the key lime pie, and it was outstanding. Smooth, creamy, and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, parking was easy with plenty of paid options nearby, and every part of the experience felt polished without feeling pretentious. Finding a restaurant that nails the food, service, and overall experience isn't always easy, but Salt & Pearl checked every box for us. Safe to say we've already found a reason to come back. Pro tip: If you're ordering the Fish & Chips, come hungry. Those cod portions are no joke.

The service is friendly and the process of ordering is self-intuitive and easy and the time process is quick knowing it is custom cooked to order for every customer that can be 10-15 mins or so and you can be in and out dining in quickly or take a meal "to-go" quicker. The steak is or was, mediocre. This is a seafood restaurant and specialty. If you come here, I'd say don't do the surf and turf (steak) but opt for more seafood. The shrimp grilled in the shell is lackluster because the shrimp often sticks into the shell and dry out, harder to eat and less delicious, in my opinion. All of the fishes that are grilled are great and the best options.

It's one of those "low-key hidden but worth finding" spots. Don't let the location fool you! I went on a Tuesday during the week when it wasn't busy at all -- nice and chill vibes. But babyyy once 6 PM hit? Dinner time activated. The crowd definitely started rolling in and you could feel the energy shift. So just know traffic picks up later in the evening if you're planning a visit. Now let's get into what matters: The staff? Super attentive and kind. I love when servers check on you just enough without hovering. And the food came out HOT. Not warm. Not "it's been sitting." I'm talking steaming, fresh, straight-to-the-table heat -- which is exactly how a crab boil should hit. Portions were generous because I was overly stuffed and still had plenty left over for the next day (which honestly might be the best part). Nothing like reheating a seafood boil and running it back. Thank you for hosting me and my guest -- we had such a good experience. I'll definitely be back for my next crab boil fix lol

The seafood was so bland and the fries were so dry with little to no seasoning.
