Tasty Chinese food! Located on 190th on the border of Redondo Beach and the City of Torrance. China Yi is in a large strip mall that was Jon's Marketplace, Play It Again Sports, Chase Bank, and more. Parking is plentiful and easy to get in and out. It's a cute, small, yet welcoming restaurant. The employees are friendly. I placed a to-go order with the cashier and while I was waiting, they were kind to offer me and bring an ice water cup. My to-go bag was prepared and ready quickly, probably less than 10 minutes. I had actually just missed the cutoff for the lunch special but even so the price was still good. The hubby and I shared an order of sweet and sour pork and their house chow mein. Yum! It included 2 fortune cookies. Would likely dine in with the hubby at some point and try other items. Welcome to the South Bay, China Yi!

First time here and we really enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and the place was packed (we got the last table), but the turn around is quick as well. We ordered a few of the dim sum options and two lunch specials. The prices are great. We really enjoyed the shu mai, pork spare rib and lunch combos. Lots of people ordering take out as well since the restaurant is small. Can't wait to go back to their other dishes!

a random friday lunch date with my parents... always a great time. China Yi just opened in March. It is a random spot in the shopping plaza, i think it took over yum yum donuts. but it works. it was pretty busy during our visit, friday around noon, which is great to see. plenty of 2-4 person tables inside. we ordered two of their lunch specials. which they serve til 3pm daily! each lunch special comes with fried rice, chow mein or white rice or 1/2 & 1/2. each lunch special comes with corn egg drop soup. (not avail for to go orders) the lunch special consists of : combo A $9.75 (one item) or combo B for $12.95 (two item, can pick from section A and one from section B) $2 extra for any seafood dish. my mom order half fried rice and half chow mein with: FISH FILLET IN BLACK BEAN SAUCE ORANGE CHICKEN i ordered half fried rice and half chow mein with: TERIYAKI CHICKEN CHICKEN W/ STRING BEANS ($1 extra) they have a pretty extensive menu for a smaller kitchen. but the kitchen staff were getting everyones order out quick. the food was good, did not feel heavy at all. the orange chicken or teriyaki chicken were not drenched in sauce, which was great. we all enjoyed our food. my parents liked it so much, they went back the next day. parking: i hate this parking lot LOL. it really should not be two way traffic. but plenty of parking , just watch where you park lol.

I am always on the lookout for good Chinese lunch specials and was quite pleased to discover China Yi. China Yi is a fairly new spot in Torrance. It's only been open for a month but from the looks of all the folks dining when I came on a Friday, it is quickly becoming popular. They serve lunch specials till 3pm daily and there are two types of combos to chose from. They have a combo one for $9.75 and a combo two for $12.95. Combo one includes one item while combo two comes with two items. Any seafood dish is $2 extra. All combos are served with fried or steam rice, chow mein and egg drop soup. I came with my mom and we chose to each got a combo two. She got the Chicken Wing with Salt Pepper and the Moo Goo Chicken. I got the BBQ Pork and the Beef Pepper Steak. We both really liked the Chicken Wing with Salt Pepper. The chicken wings were served hot and fresh and were so crispy, with a slight hint of spice. My second favorite dish was the Beef Pepper Steak. This one was so flavorful. I loved the tender slices of beef, crisp bell peppers and onions all coated in a savory, pepper forward sauce. I also enjoyed the Moo Goo Chicken. Light and simple, this dish had tender chicken, mushroom and lots of fresh vegetables. My least favorite was the BBQ Pork. It was a bit on the dry side and came out slightly cold, making it less enjoyable than the other dishes. Overall, I really enjoyed lunch at China Yi! The flavors were on point and the prices are great. I will definitely be coming back.

    Tofu salt and pepper

I'm very happy to see another Chinese restaurant n the South Bay. China Yi just recently opened. It's nothing fancy but the food is solid. We ordered pick up on a night when no one wanted to cook. Ordered the fish fillet with black bean and the tofu salt and pepper. Both these dishes come with rice. We also ordered the Taiwan style chow fun. I can see why they state they cook with less salt and less oil. You can really taste the difference in the food. It does taste healthier. The fish fillet and the Taiwan style chow fun were delicious. The tofu was good but I guess I was expecting the tofu to be crispier. The price point is reasonable but I don't think the servings would satisfy a hungry teenage boy. Would definitely have to order more dishes All and all I would recommend China Yi and I do look forward to checking out the rest of the menu and also dining in. When I was googling I found their website and looks like there may be a loyalty program? It's something to look into

Broccoli Beef, look at those veggies, yessss!

I'm not a Chinese food expert, but I know I like flavorful, spicy (when necessary), fresh and chunky Chinese food. I like big veggies, the kind that are big enough that you immediately recognize that it's an onion, broccoli, carrot, etc. China Yi doesn't disguise the veggies, hallelujah! I also like spicy when a menu indicates the dish is spicy, sometimes with a chili emoji. I expect to enjoy some heat, something that makes me feel like there's a party going on in my mouth. Rarely do I find where spicy means s.p.i.c.y. The Hot & Sour soup was neither spicy (as indicated by the chili emoji) nor sour, but it was hot, stove hot, so there's that. The Fish Fillet in Spicy Gravy hit the spicy mark - he loved this chef's special and commented that the hot & sour soup would benefit from whatever spice is used in this dish. Friendly? Absolutely. Swift service? Bingo. Plenty of parking, easy in and out. Decor is refined with bright but pleasant colors which is a far cry from many Chinese restaurants whose color seems to often times default to: pink. Love the ambiance here. I like China Yi and I enjoyed the broccoli beef, house chow mein, spicy fish fillet, and the egg rolls. Loads of food, and I'm grateful I was conservative on ordering just a handful of our favs. I'm looking forward to trying other dishes such as Combo Kung Pao, General Chicken, Mongolian Beef. I wish I had a code that I could use to signal to the cook that I'm thrilled with real spiciness, this girl loves feisty, spicy deliciousness. Worth a visit...or three, for sure.

Fish fillet in black bean sauce

My first time here... it's good food done by very young cooks... I think that they'll be successful if their approach it's friendlier with their guests... I arrived late for lunch so I went for the menu... Fish Fillet in black bean sauce, not to die for but, good enough... rice portion for the menu is very limited but again. Enough the place is clean and modern with easy music to accompany your meals... I think that they'll fact that they charge for tea is odd, they don't even offered it to you anyway good luck to you young guys!!!

Tried this place after seeing signs for it while driving down 190th. I went in with tempered expectations and I have to admit my expectations were surpassed. The food was tasty, the service was fast and efficient, and the vibes were on point. All in all, a good value.

From the outside its looks like a new Wok Wok China take out place. Its not. The seating is not comfortable the sofa type bench seating is too deep and makes it difficult to sit and get in and out. But a minor drawback to the food and service. This place is New and they Hustle here. There is a lot of take out going on. The food... had the Hot and sour soup 5+, fried rice 4, Peking fried pork chops 5 piggy buns fun 5. You wont find 15.95 soup here, my Hot and sour was 8.95 ate three bowls there and still took some home. Very deep flavor and had some heat lots of ingredients. Most soups on the menu were below 10 Fried rice was good huge chunks of chicken and pork cubes and a nice smoky flavored rice. Peking pork chops expecting red sauce was Korean style brown sauce but still had a very nice grow on you flavor my friend did not like it said it was OK. I kept eating and eating this stuff and it grew on me. Lastly tried the Piggy buns Azuki red beans stuffed in China Bao with piggy face put on cute The prices are on the down low almost pre pandemic our bill 54 total this was cheaper than Bum rice we tried last week that bill for tasteless take out was 64 before tip. On the menu they have a 43.95 dinner special for 2 or 3 people it had 11 items on it and seemed to cover the world. We were not hungry enough for that next time will bring a friend. Based on the gastronomical experience the deep flavors i give this place a recommend. I definitely will go back when i want some hot and sour soup and itch for Peking fried pork chops, This place is right next door to my Fav Market Jons on 190th.

    Lunch special with broccoli beef

Ate there 3 times. So good! I'm an immigrant from Asia and this food really hits the spot for me, PLUS the fact it's such good value. I have to say I notice how carefully the owner decorates this restaurant and they really aim to do their best in everything they do. The hand dryer in their bathroom is Dyson and it's also immaculate in there like the rest of the restaurant. I appreciate that kind of spirit.

    Beef noodle soup

New spot on 190th st. Very affordable prices considering the times, hence why it was so busy. Run by a very friendly and jovial owner and bustling staff. The owner definitely made the place feel more like a community and family restaurant. Seats are nice and comfy, well cushioned as they're practically sofas. Ample portions of food for the price paid, especially a lunch special evoking 2010's prices. Flavor is decent, slightly catered more to Americans while still retaining some authentic Chinese profiles. Beef noodle soup could've used more spices and a chili oil condiment on the table but otherwise the portions of beef gave it its value. Beef with broccoli was a little more on the sweet side but the pepper beef was spot on. May not be the best Chinese restaurant but it's definitely the best bang for the buck in the South Bay.

String Beans with Black Bean Sauce
    Lawrence H.

Got the Chicken Chow Mein, String Beans with Black Bean Sauce and an order of Shui Mai. The noodles were cooked well. The chicken was tender. The string beans were crispy. The Shui Mai was fair. The flavor was there but not on the same level as you would get in Monterey Park. The nice owner came out to the dining area to check on me and other diners to see if we had any questions. CY is located in the same center as CVS so no issues on parking. If I were to get the Chow Mein again, I would let them know to omit the sugar.

A delightful new destination for Chinese Food.
    Daniel R.

I would consider this mid-level Chinese and judging it on that criteria results in a 4.5 (rounded up to 5) star review. The place is clean, nicely appointed for a strip-mall, and inviting. We were seated promptly despite the restaurant being quite busy. We ordered some wonton soup, (surprisingly good) some chow mein noodles, (my wife enjoyed them) beef w/broccoli and moo shoo chicken. All of the entrees came with white rice. The food was fresh, plentiful and quite tasty! The service was no-frills but prompt and friendly. China Yi is a welcome addition to the area, especially given a dearth of solid Chinese food offerings. We certainly can see returning here next time we're in the mood for it...

Supposed to be beef chow fun? As seen in this photo no beef! Pork & shrimp!

Old wood. No unnecessary theater. I walked in expecting the sort of modest Japanese restaurant that makes you wonder why anyone bothers opening anything new. Then you get inside. There is old in the charming sense, where every worn surface feels earned. And then there is old in the neglected sense, where the room feels dim, tired and coated in the residue of a thousand lunches. Ichimiann lands much closer to the second. The cafeteria style ordering, self serve tea and tray return could have been part of its appeal, but the space has no real rhythm to it. You order, drift toward the back and eventually find yourself eating in a room that feels more institutional than intimate. The staff was pleasant and efficient. No complaint there. The soba itself was also good, properly textured, clean tasting and clearly better than the lifeless supermarket versions most people know. The problem is that "good soba" is carrying nearly the entire restaurant on its back. The portions are remarkably small for the price and every addition begins to feel like another minor financial penalty. By the time the tray reaches the table, you are looking at a modest serving of noodles in a tired room and wondering how the bill became so ambitious. Handmade or not, there was nothing on the plate that felt difficult enough, generous enough or memorable enough to justify it. That is the disappointment. Ichimiann presents itself like a surviving piece of old Torrance, but tradition alone is not hospitality and age alone is not character. The noodles are respectable. Nearly everything surrounding them needs considerably more care. I wanted to discover a neighborhood institution. What I found was an expensive bowl of decent soba in a restaurant that seems to believe its history is doing more work than it actually is.
