The beef burrito was crispy on the edges and filled to the brim with beef. The cold dishes were marinated well but heavy on the cilantro for the seaweed salad. The beef tendon soup was great in flavor but slightly spicy even though we asked for a clear broth. Service: 5/5 - expect Chinese restaurant service that is quite to the point but quick Ambiance: 5/5 - small shop but the tables were clean Value for price: 5/5 - food was great, pricing is competitive, but they do round some of the pricing with tax. A small, nondescript resto in a tired strip mall on Crenshaw, just north of Lomita. I was craving Chinese food and this was nearby. When we arrived, we were greeted by the proprietor. There were two other occupied tables occupied by old timers enjoying their lunch. We ordered to share: Spicy Beef Noodle Soup It was flavorful and not spicy for our palate. I wish it had tendon but we enjoyed it, nonetheless. Fish Fillet with Tofu This was SPICY! Loved it and would order this again. Onion pancakes Thin and crisp edges. Just as I like them! 3 cold dishes: cucumber, mustard greens and steamed peanuts. A great snack while we were waiting for the main event. You select the three items from the display. The greens were refreshing on this hot day in September. Hot Tea The tea was a typical tea you may get at any Chinese resto. As with those teas, it compliments and supports the food. We would visit this place again if we're in the area and it's lunch time. It's not a destination unless you happen to be craving something on their menu. Another visit to wonderful Sue's kitchen. The food was great as usual. Sad to see that the menu has shrunk a bit but all the heavy hitters I've been used to are still there. This is one of the OG beef noodle place in the South Bay, I've been going since the 90s. It changed hands a few times since then. It can be a hit or a miss in the recent years. Last I went, about a year or so ago, the price went up but portion gone way down, so I haven't been in a while. Went yesterday for an early dinner, the portion is still relatively smaller than way back in the days. But decent for $12, you can't beat that price in the neighborhood, I wish they offer a larger size at a higher price. This place puts its efforts into food, not ambiance or location. Do not be put off by its lackluster interior and strip mall location. We got takeout pork fried rice, Dan dan noodles, Choi gow soup dumplings, spicy beef soup dumplings, onion pancakes, sautéed cabbage, string beans with meat, and 2 orders of beef burritos. The highlight of the show was the delicious beef burrito. It was an onion pancake enveloping several thin tasty slices of beef. I would order just this for dinner it was so good. Food has always been tasty and service has always been lousy and getting even worse. In our last few visits, we have been very uncomfortable with the sticky table, it's just not very pleasant. Last night, we ate there and bought some rice noodles to go, since everything is light colored, black spots are much more noticeable, especially with the lighting at home, it turned out there were MANY bugs on the vegetables! So much has changed to Torrance but glad to see Sue's Kitchen lives on -- it's one of the few restaurants that I used to go to as a kid that's still around. The place is turning more and more into a hole in the wall. Even though it was renovated a few years ago, lack of upkeep since the pandemic is starting to become really obvious. Inconsistency is how I'd describe the current Sue's Kitchen, especially in regards to the beef noodle soup. Some days it is awesome - broth has depth, not too oily, and the beef is tender. On bad days, it is overly oily (the way it is prepped), beef tough like rubber, and it's just... flat. Most of the time it's in between. Small and family-owned, Sue's Kitchen does possess a certain charm. The Chinese Burrito gets the job done - I do love a beef roll. I also tried Intestine with Brown Sauce because I was feeling brave. Not bad but not good either. This gamble did not pay off. I got Chicken Fried Rice as well, which was good. I love that it's so mom and pop, but some of this looked and tasted like it had been sitting under a warmer for a while. I wanted so much to like this place. The pictures looked good and the prices looked good too. There were some bad reviews. I was very impressed when I opened the Styrofoam container. The food looked like a nice presentation. When I called in my order they were able to, take the order, barely, but that's not a problem. The chicken looks crispy on the picture and is certainly not crispy on the plate. In addition the meat is not free of grizzle or tendon and is not cut so that it cooks evenly some parts with some parts were super thick. Unfortunately, the thick part was very uncooked. Hopefully I don't have any issues. The taste was fine. Spices were fine side condiments were good. The rice was good. A couple running. The place seemed very nice and friendly. I will give it one more. Try if you speak Chinese, please tell these people That they can be very successful if they cook the food completely and make the fried foods crispy. Since there isn't an updated price list anywhere, I thought i'd mention how much I was charged. I ordered two beef noodle soup and it came out to $20 even (so $10 per bowl of beef noodle soup). I paid in cash. Sadly, the flavor was just okay (not phenomenal). It was very oily and there were only 4 small pieces of meat per bowl. It's a small hole in the wall place and there's only one person working there. I love supporting small businesses like this one, but my first impression of them was not great. I called to pick up and order at 8pm on Friday, no answer. I figured they might be busy so I decide to head over. I look at the hours on Yelp and it says they're open until 9pm. Great! It's 7:45, and it'll take  me under 10 minutes to get there. I arrive, the "Open" sign is still on, and I see people eating inside. Great! I'm minutes away from chomping down on some delicious Chinese food is what I think. Excited, with a smile on my face, I approach the door and see their hours of operation are until 9pm! GREAT, I'm almost there! I open the door to the restaurant, confident in what I'm about to order having wrote it on my Notes app on my phone after carefully scrolling through all the available photos on Yelp and meticulously studying the menu in anticipation of satisfying a craving. All seems well at this point...but alas... Instead, I am welcomed by a man hunched over a cash register with his back to the door, who barely makes the effort to turn to acknowledge that someone entered his establishment, and looking rather annoyed, yells at me "CLOSED!" This places serves the best authentic, cheap and flavorful Chinese food! The workers speak mostly Chinese and so do most of the customers. It's also located in a small strip mall, so you know it's authentic. The food is simple but full of flavor. I've been coming here since I was a little girl, and I come back every time I'm in town. My boyfriend has been such a loyal customer at Sue's for years and introduced me this place about a year ago. His go-to's are the cold appetizers that they offer, $5 for any 3 choices, which include his favorite: spicy pork ears, bean curd skin, and smashed cucumbers or celery. Appetizers usually have a fixed amount throughout the day, so many items may be sold out by the time they are almost closed! This place is so good, so home-y, and authentically Chinese. The spicy pork ears are my favorite because they're coated in a delicious Szechuan sauce. Today we ordered the beef noodle soup and it came in a huge, piping hot bowl that was enough for us to share. It was slightly oily but it made the flavorful broth coat the noodles so that each bite was tasty. I liked it so much that I mentioned I actually preferred it over Din Tai Fung's beef noodle soup. I had this place bookmarked for a while and we were in the mood for beef noodle soup today. When we walked in, I saw another customer eating it and it looked so good that I decided that I wanted my own bowl. My husband ordered half and half (tendon and beef) and I ordered just beef. The first bite made his eyes water and nose run, but I was prepared and it didn't affect me. The beef was tender and the noodles plentiful. We couldn't believe each bowl was only $6.60. I also ordered won tons with chili oil after seeing pictures on Yelp. Those were good too. All of the customers were Chinese, which was a good sign that the place was going to be legit. There was also a glass case with cold dishes. We didn't get anything from there because we already had enough food. Parking spaces were pretty tight in this strip mall right off Crenshaw Blvd. We didn't have any issues with service, unlike some of the other reviewers.
