Very good food and beautiful location. The only reason I'm not giving them a better review is because the service was slow and the food was expensive. They brought my friend the wrong drink twice, and seemed to ignore us the entire time we were there. I understand that it was a busy Sunday, but the waitresses didn't seem to have any sense of urgency and didn't check up on us once. Might go there again on a different day, we'll see. read more

Just like every other restaurant the Hamptons Canal Cafe pushes it to the limit, came in on July 2nd for "dinner", I say this cause we were seated at 6:45 and they were out of all dinner entrees. We ordered clam fritters and fried oysters along with a burger and tuna sandwich. Apps came out quickly 15 minutes but it took an hour or more for our sandwiches. Halfway through we placed a salad order to go...which was a real mistake as we waited another hour after finishing our meal for our to go and when we go home wasn't even correct. So a three hour dinner for a couple of sandwiches and a salad cost $150. If that's not pricing for the summer I don't know what is. read more

Stopped in here to kick off the 4th of July weekend and this did not disappoint. The location is nice, right on the water with an abundance of outdoor seating. I arrived at about 730pm and there was an hour wait for outdoor seating. We compromised for indoor and really it wasn't bad, still had a decent view. The decor is nice for the summer and there is a band playing outside. The staff was extremely prompt and pleasant. the food was good and came out promptly. One negative is that the lobster roll was pretty expensive ($32) but it was good and a pretty good size read more

Best and most generous lobster rolls I've had south of Bangor, Maine. Many patrons take home part of the lobster, which is on ciabatta rolls. Very fresh and tasty and generous. Caesar or house salad is pretty simple and could easily be raised to standards of rest of menu. Mild seasoning allows lobster taste to rule and be enjoyed. Been four times but only ordered the lobster--just too good to mess with anything else on the menu, although hear people rave about other menu items. WARNING: We have always arrived at 5:30pm after a workout at the gym so I cannot review what this cafe is like later in the evening, but it is perfect at 5:30pm. Diverse ages from seniors to little kids and always happy. The female waitresses are very good. Good service and pleasant attitudes. The young males, however, are full of themselves and their behavior is similar to a JV locker room. Lots of bragging about female conquests in vulgar language that can be heard by patrons in the restroom. Preening amongst the young males on the steps is sorta off putting so stick with the female waitresses for good service and a smile. Hope mgr. talks to these obnoxious boys. We will continue to eat here weekly for as long as the food stays good and the wait staff is presentable and welcoming. Good beer and wine and a full cocktail bar. I will give the view 5 stars and the food 4 stars....it was a Tuesday night at 7:30,we were sitting on the lower dock and ordered one more round of drinks after we finished our meal to take in the atmosphere and before our waitress ( who wasn't very good) even brought us our check ,we were asked to finish our drinks, which just arrived at our table,on the patio where everyone was standing waiting for a table ,by the hostess.She said there is over an hour wait and would like to seat someone else. I have NEVER been asked to leave my table because people are waiting. RUDE...the manager did buy our last round, but the damage was done and irreversible. Will never go back there and make sure all I know will not go there. I live in Hampton Bays and there are plenty of places to go and enjoy out here. read more

Always our go to spot when we are in the mood for a delicious lobster roll. Today we came and we were told there was a 10 minute wait.... which is weird because it was not crowded and there were empty tables. I am in the business, so I somewhat understood. Getting to our table, the waitress saw we had our drinks from the bar but never came back to ask for waters or anything. We placed our order, we got the baha fish special and two lobster rolls. My boyfriend's beer was empty the whole time and our waitress never came by. Our meals arrived from a bus boy and still no sign of our waitress at our table. In restaurant world when a customer puts an empty glass at the end of the table, that should be a sign to come by and refill. However, she never did. She never came over to see how the food was or anything. Finally I asked the food runner who was apparently our waitress' sister, if she can get our waitress. It was a hot day and all we needed was a glass of water. We asked for our waitress a total of four times within 20 minutes because she never came around. Finally we asked for her again so we can get our check and I just handed her my card because I knew if I didn't that it would take forever to ever leave. Finally the card got ran but she didn't even bring back the card, she had her sister do it. Now I have to ask one more time for the waitress because she decided to not give us a pen to sign our check. This has been by far the worst experience we have ever received at this restaurant. It's unfortunate that she never came around, she would have gotten a better tip. They will not see us back there..... read more

The hostesses are bitches and could care less about customer service. They told us they "lost us" after an hour or waiting all while laughing at us. When we called to speak with the manager Missy, the hostess explained that she was the manager and continued to talk back to my mother while she was on the phone. No apology was given. A fun, casual place that serves everything on paper plates. Good spot to sit and have drinks. I had the tuna sandwich and it was fine. There was a little too much going on and it was messy to eat. After celebrating my Mom's 84th birthday, we were finishing our drinks after paying the $250.00 and a staff member asked us to leave because people were waiting for a table. I felt this was very rude and uncalled for. I feel for people waiting to eat but I think asking us to leave to accommodate another party was really out of line. The view is pretty, the food was good not great, but it was the service that was the problem..Our waiter was very nice , fast and personable..The bus staff drove you crazy.. there were 6 of out for lunch to celebrate my mom's 84 birthday and anytime anyone finished anything , an appetizer ,drink, a bus boy would interrupt the conversation to ask if he could take the empty plate.. He did this as each one finished till my brother-in-.law was left eating alone with only drinks left on the table. very rude...Next after paying the bill of $250.00 including a nice tip,as we sat chatting waiting for my mom and brother-in-law to finish their beers, the host approached our table and told us there were people waiting and they needed the table.. Completely overpriced paid 95 dollars plus tip for 2 lobster rolls and 2 appetizers. Lobster rolls listed at MP so you don't really know what you're paying. The food was good but not spectacular and definitely not the best lobster roll I've had in the hamptons. Scenery is nice and the food tasted pretty good but the check at the end of the meal kind of ruined the experience. Not worth the price but if you have a large group and want to sit outdoors it's a good view. read more

Great location with outdoor tables by the water. We would have loved to sit outside for dinner, but it was a bit too cold so we settled for a table in the more crowded noisy interior. Our server came to take our order promptly and we soon had our meal. We had clams in a tasty broth that we sopped up with nice warm bread. I puchased a Sumer house in beautiful Hampton Bays a few years ago and visit this fine establishment every Summer weekend (rain or shine.) The food, including the local seafood, is consistently fresh and incredibly delicious. The menu offerings are always diverse and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Fantastic selection of local wines, too! The view is stunning, so you should not mind if there is a long wait. While waiting, enjoy a glass of chard and take in the incredible view with family and friends. The long wait says it all... by far the BEST seafood establishment on the East End. Very disappointing. I may be a tougher judge than the average person, as I absolutely love shellfish and eat it often. Other than the view, there's no reason to eat here. We got the lobster roll based on the glowing yelp reviews. Any lobster shack in Maine would be horrified. Yes, it's a big sandwich, but that's it's only redeeming quality. The roll overpowers the sandwich and the lobster meat is obviously not fresh from a lobster. It's all ground up so the consistency is closer to tuna salad rather than fresh lobster salad. At $26, why are they serving lobster meat that came frozen and precooked? Same thing with the crab cake. Mushy, ground up crab. No chunks of crab to be found there. Mussels were tiny and not all that flavorful. Nothing was awful, but more like seafood you might get at a diner than what you would expect at a pricey waterfront restaurant. read more

Aside from the slightly snarky (mostly female) waitstaff, this place delivers some quality, fresh seafood from former Barefoot Contessa chefs. Not a huge menu, but one that has clearly been fine-tuned to highlight their best features, as well as an always rotating specials board. We had the red thai curry mussels which were absolutely delicious with the perfect amount of sweetness and spice, followed by the Shrimp Po' Boy and Lobster Roll, both of which were outstanding. However, a few words about the Lobster Roll: I like my Lobster Roll served on the traditional hot-dog style bun (preferably brioche). This one is served on foccacia, which while still a very good bread, is too heavy and also a bit dry. For $23 though, you do get a mountain of lobster, although the dressing was a little on the bland side for me. read more

Our family recently dined at Canal Cafe. We checked Yelp before going - it was rated 4 stars, so we thought it would be really good. Wrong! So, so wrong! I ordered the oyster po-boy. Ugh. It had 5 oysters on the entire sandwich. Yes, 5. I counted them. The oysters were coated in a really heavy thick breading, and fried until they were almost black. They were barely edible. $18 for this. The rest of our group of 6 said their food was not great. I don't understand how this place earned 4 stars. At least the beer was good. Food was delicious. Clam fritters were crispy on the outside, moist and creamy on the inside and the lobster sandwich was so huge I could barely finish it (and I can EAT!). On the down side, it is in the middle of a working marina which could be noisy - and smelly (diesel fuel) on any given day. I went for a somewhat late lunch on a Fri, and it was fine. Service was attentive. The only down side was we asked to be switched to a table in the sun (asked this in the beginning, when we placed our lunch order) and they seated three other tables of two not letting us switch. Isn't that simple? Manhattan clam chowder very liquid and poor of ingredients Crab cake totally tasteless Steam Clams in a watering broth, far away from a little reduced white wine sauce! At the end, following the suggestion on the wall: home made dessert!! Well, chocolate cake from a poor pastry loco bakery with artificial raspberry Sauce and weep cream from the supermarket! Had a wonderful lunch here today. Since the weather was beautiful, the restaurant was packed. We opted to sit and eat inside at the bar which still had a good view of the water and boats. They had a couple of interesting beers on tap which we enjoyed and then we shared a grilled Mahi sandwich and a special of red snapper ceviche served with chips. Both were delicious. We had a table on the lower deck overlooking the marina. There is usually a wait, but tonight we were lucky and seated immediately. If you have to wait, have a drink and enjoy the view. Awesome little spot! They constantly have a different specials menu with at least 10 options! It's small and not too much seating but the food is excellent, they have live music frequently. Last time I had the seared tuna steak and it was literally cooked to PERFECTION! read more

God bless the wait staff for having to put up with a lot of over demanding un friendly people. not to say thats their whole clientele.
