So happy that I have rediscovered Canal Street a few times since our first visit. This Greek restaurant has consistently delivered on taste and cozy ambience, whether a family dinner or a date lunch. Apps this time included cold dips and my favorite version of grape leaves. Meat dishes - especially lamp chops and blackened salmon were big winners. Carb cakes also crispy to perfection. Lemon potatoes were the all around favorite. Baklava was a treasured dessert and converted even my picky younger daughter over to Baklava (chocolate mousse also rich and delish). So glad we have had many great meals here and that Canal Street was such a nice place to have a weekend dinner with friends. read more

Truly a gem and we enjoy it everytime. It never disappoints. Surprisingly one of the best burgers around and cooked as requested! I mean how many times have you asked for a medium burger only to get it well done? Compliments to the chef on that alone but also on the Moussaka. Both the vegetable and classic Moussaka are standouts. Sooo delicious. Our server was excellent. Friendly, timly and wanted to please. It added to a perfect dinner. Reservations were honored. The restaurant wasn't full on Sunday night, but you never know...still better to have a reservation. And who dosen't love a byob!! Wife and I stopped in for a dinner we both ordered the chicken Gyro. We were surprised to learn that you now have to pay extra for fries on the side.. The order came out quickly the Gyro bread was delicious chewy and fresh the chicken however was grilled ahead of time and must have sat and they just re-warmed it because it was dry and chewy. When we brought it up to our server he just acknowledged and said he was sorry --we were not looking for a refund....What has happened to this place that used to be so delicious! Our impromptu visit to Canal Street Grille left us less than raving. The stark interior was unwelcoming and cold. Which perfectly matched the staff who were somewhat preoccupied or disinterested. Even the woman who appeared to be either the manager or owner was less than thrilled to be in the dining room let alone interact with the patrons. Walked in at 7:20 (kitchen closes at 7:30), and they were happy to sit us. We sat by the windows that overlook the canal which is usually a beautiful view but it was dark out. I ordered the lamb gyro and my wife got the Greek salad with lamb. It was delicious as always. We were in and out in 17 minutes flat. Great staff and great food. Had a delicious lunch at this beautiful canal side restaurant that's been in business for many years. The restaurant is in an old Victorian house in Yardley, replete with original details. My food was perfectly prepared. The fresh pita was so unlike the ones served in most restaurants. These were light, soft & airy & perfect for the lamb gyro I ordered. The lamb was tender & perfectly seasoned. I asked for extra tzatziki sauce when I ordered, but it wasn't on my plate. I asked again when our waitress brought our food, but she disappeared. Nobody was answering the loud phone that kept ringing at the front desk. I finally asked another waitress for the tzatziki, & she came back after a while with a small container of an almost frozen sour cream with dill dip, not a true tzatziki- very disappointing! The final insult was being charged an extra .50 cents for the frozen dip. The service was absent. But my lamb gyro was excellent. I also asked for extra well-done fries with no salt & they were perfect, hot & extremely crispy. I'm sure this was a case of understaffing or something because this restaurant has such a great reputation. What an awesome location on the canal... beautiful and relaxing in this quaint, but hopping little river side town... I love this menu! And if you follow me, you know it's "fresh" and "original" that turns me on....and Canal Street has it... their Greek Salad is the best (almost anywhere)... very friendly and old time staple in Yardley. Since relocating to Yardley, the Canal Street Grille has become our go to spot for quick and delicious lunches and it has never disappointed. This down to earth gem has a small but solid menu that offers an enticing cross section of Greek dishes and we've explored quite a bit of it. One of our favorites is the lamb gyro and fries, which is consistently delicious and perfectly made. The Greek omelette with feta is another standout, which takes me back to the old NYC diners I grew up on. It's a great meal. The roasted beets with feta mousse and herbs is another dish that we can't get enough of. My kids, who never like beets, eat this like it's going out of style. Finally, the Greek meatballs are a must try, very authentic and packed with flavor. The ambiance is sorta bare bones but it's a comfortable restaurant and always clean and welcoming. Service is solid, though it's worth noting that during busy times, the wait for your food can be a bit longer than expected. Overall, the Canal Street Grille is a standout in downtown Yardley. With its consistently excellent food, it's a place we always look forward to visiting. If you're in the area and looking for a great lunch spot, I wholeheartedly recommend giving them a try. We got there at 6:45. Food was good but it was so obvious that they wanted us to leave around 8pm. They started cleaning up around us, turned the lights on, started vacuuming as we were sitting there. The last straw was when my friend and I stood up to leave but were still talking, the server squeezed between us to clean up the rest of the table. It was so rude. I would never go back here. I really want to like this place, but I have my issues with it. Pros: an amazing Greek salad!!!! It comes fresh and full of flavor with pita on the side. Cons: wait staff was a bit spacey on our visit. We had one waitress take our order and another deliver it. Staff did not understand what we tried to order and we had to state what we wanted/didn't want multiple times. I had the spanakopita app- it was bland, but perfectly flakey. I also ordered the chicken Florentine. The sauce and the pasta were the best parts of the dish. The chicken seemed overcooked and for a moment I wondered if it was actual chicken breast and not something reheated. Also, the spinach didn't add anything to the dish and had no taste. read more

Six of us had Sunday lunch here today. It was really good! I had the Athenian salad with grilled chicken. I haven't eaten here in quite awhile & I'd forgotten how good that salad is. This was our first time here. I've been wanting to try it and it was my besties birthday so a group of us went and we love a BYOB! We got to try a bunch of dishes and apps and not one of them disappointed. For apps we got The Mussels, The Greek Dip Trio, The Roasted Beets and The Falafel with their homemade Tzatziki Sauce! For our mains I got the Lamb Gyro with Greek Salad picture attached (So GOOD)my one friend got the chicken gyro with fries, my other friend got the Vodka Rigatoni as recommended by one of the staff and said it was amazing, my nephew got the angus burger with cheese and the lemon roasted potatoes and my husband got the Classic Moussaka, everyone was thrilled! Sorry I didn't take more pictures, I guess you'll just have to there yourself. The service was great and our waiter looked like someone famous that we are still trying to figure out. It's a thursday night, tried to make a reservation for 4 at 6:45pm. Hostess who answered phone tells me they close promptly at 8pm... is that enough time... perhaps I could come in earlier. I aked her if I'm in the middle of finishing dessert and it's 8pm can I finish? She replied we close at 8pm. so, a bit taken aback I ask her again... would we be able to finish eating... Would we just have to get up and leave... at that she hung up on me. Would have loved to try this place, but after that friendly conversation, I'd say that's never going to happen. I brought my pup and sat outside on this cold November evening. Anthony and Emma came out and greeted us, showered my dog with attention and Anthony even offered to bring her a water bowl. The food was quick and tasted spectacular, as always. When the check came, I had to go inside if I wanted to use Apple Pay but Emma volunteered to wait with my pup which was pretty incredible. This post is to detail a very unpleasant experience I had today at Canal Street Grille. Because of it, I will no longer be patronizing this establishment. Of course, you can weigh this information as you make your decision. We called in a takeout order for 5 people for Mothers Day lunch for my girlfriend and her sons. Let me acknowledge up front my role in this fiasco. In my hurry to get the food I did not check the order. And what Joe Pesci said in Lethal Weapon 4 is totally accurate. When I got home, we learned 2 of the entrees were not there. As I began the 15 minute ride back to the restaurant, I called to inform them of the problem so they could rectify it. First, the employee I was speaking to said that she read my order back to me and there was no chicken Ceasars salad and no turkey burger ordered. What happened is that she missed the chicken Ceasars and she misheard the turkey burger and entered a cheeseburger. For the record, neither the salad nor cheeseburger were included in the food I picked up. I was dumbfounded that she blamed me for the mix up. I have never had a manager at a restaurant act like that before. Nevertheless, I drove to pick up the omitted food. Upon arrival, she told me they were working on it. It took another 20 minutes for a chicken Ceasars salad and a turkey burger to be prepared. When I asked her to check on my order, she said it was coming, and that the kitchen was busy. Typically, a " refire" is moved to the front of the line to help rectify a mistake. Apparently thst does not happen at Canal Street Grille. And of course, she refused to acknowledge she actually made a mistake, so she felt no obligation to do anything other than put in the missing items. When the food finally arrived, she tried to charge me full price for both items. Remember I had already paid for a cheeseburger that was not included in my pick up. When I asked her if she was going to do anything to compensate for my having to drive all the way back to the restaurant and the fact that I was not able to eat with the rest of the family, she said I didn't have to drive back. She said she offered credit the next time. What was I and the other family member supposed to do?? Not eat?? Eat peanut butter? I was dumbfounded and aghast she would suggest I didn't have to drive back. I asked her if she could at least throw in a piece of baklava. She said nope. She could take off the burger since I already paid for one (how magnanimous of her), but I had to pay full price for the salad and she would do nothing further. I should mention that she took exception to my tone and said that she was just trying to help me. I assure any readers that while my upset was evident in my voice, I did not raise my voice to her nor were any of my comments personal. I voiced my displeasure and dissatisfaction at the way she handled the situation. The sad fact is that this was so easy to fix. All she had to say was that she was so sorry for the mix up and could she offer me a desert to make things right. Problem solved, and I am a repeat customer. But for whatever reason she could not seem to comprehend the most basic customer service principles. Even if we didn't agree that I ordered a salad, she did acknowledge that I ordered a burger that was not delivered. And that she tried to charge me for it is beyond belief. Well, she is right about one thing. I don't have to go back. And I won't. Canal Street Grille sits between The Vault, Continental Tavern, and The Yardley Inn. Each of these places have better food, and the staff at each deliver much better customer service. I am pretty sure the person I dealt with is the manager based on pictures on this site. She (appropriately) wore a mask the entire time, but she looks like the person identified as the manager. So if the owners would like to discuss this issue to learn more details, I am willing to have that conversation. I will not accept ( nor do I think they will offer) any compensation to give them another try. For if I did that, this post would have been for selfish reasons. I post this not to try to get anything for me but to inform those trying to pick a place to eat of the treatment I endured. My offer to talk is purely to provide any other information they may need to improve their business and prevent the loss of future customers. read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Yardley! The food never disappoints. Ingredients seem super fresh. Salads are delightful. We always get the grilled octopus to start with. It's served with white beans, capers, red onions and the most delightful dressing that is light, slightly lemony and really compliments the dish. I want to try to recreate at home but know nothing about buying or preparing octopus so will just keep coming here. The gyros are also very good. So good that it's hard to try something else. But I did have the Bronzino and it was also very delicious. The staff are friendly and efficient. It's bring your own which I like. Ambiance is nice, and it's right next to the canal. I am still standing at this disgusting place as I type this! This morning, after my dash tells me that my tire pressure is low, I pull over into the empty lot behind this shit hole to take a look. Somehow I had utterly torn the tire and wasn't going to make it home on the flat. I popped the trunk and removed my kit. Within minutes, a grey haired man pulled in and slowed down, almost to a stop, but said nothing and kept going. He pulled in the first space nearest the business and went inside. After about 15 minutes I realized that my life g nuts were on too tight for my manual tool and I called for help with roadside assistance. They arrived in under 20 minutes and began work immediately. The grey haired man walks across the lot, looks directly at me and says nothing... he walks over to the front of my vehicle and speaks to the repair man saying "how long are you going to be here? If you're not gone by 11am I'm going to tow you!" Pardon me, but I'm certain that you're aware who the vehicle belongs to since you looked directly at me when you got here so show me some respect and direct your cowardly aggression towards me and not the service provider. The repair technician was wonderful. He responded directly at the man saying that he was helping me to change a tire (obviously) and that we would be out of the lot as soon as he could ensure my vehicle was driveable. The grey haired man actually repeated the threat and said the lot was for customers only before turning around like a child and storming off. Complete A-hole. The tech was not moved. He took time to complete the tire replacement even ensuring the tire had sufficient air. We talked about a good place to purchase a new tire and then parted ways. Look, it's 2017. I have no grand ideas about chivalry and have no expectations that a man would lend any help to a female stranger. However, I do expect that a business owner would show some damn compassion to a person making an active effort to NOT be stranded. At no time was my vehicle unattended, my time there was less than 40 minutes (all in) and quite honestly, it's not throwing off the feng shui of your precious parking lot. It hurts to write this as I've given them a few attempts to try and fix the issue, but I am done with Canal Street Grille. I got food poisoning here (salmonella from chicken in a chicken gyro - not sure if it was bad or just under-cooked). I lost 6 pounds in 36 hours from the diarrhea and vomiting. I've been going here for YEARS and I loved the place - I've recommended it to many people (was one of their 5 star reviews), got take out about once a week, and even paid cash every time I went because of a sign they posted requesting cash since they are a small business. I sent them a message explaining that I got food poisoning after eating there. They responded to basically say, "we doubt it because we keep our kitchen clean but feel better and keep us updated." I responded (they said to keep them updated) to say I know it was food poisoning from there (GF and I got the same thing, but she got lamb/ I got chicken, she was fine, I got salmonella, lost 6 pounds and was in bed for two days), and they read the message, but never responded. I sent a follow up message to say that I can't believe they wouldn't respond and that I am done with the place. They responded and, still no apology, said that they only use fresh products and keep their kitchen clean (basically said just shut up and go away). A few more back and forth messages that basically came to me having to provide proof that it was from their chicken. They finally sent a message saying, "we had someone else responding to your messages that shouldn't have been. Please give us your number so we can call you and address this." I sent my number. Now, two weeks later, do you think they've called? Of course not. I was a loyal customer - trust me, I didn't want to get food poisoning and I didn't want it to come to this, but this is how they treated me. It's not worth supporting people like this. I'm all about supporting small businesses, but not when they have no respect for their customers and can't even acknowledge or apologize for the incident. read more

Such a great local gem with consistently good food. I've been coming here for over 15 years, and have never had a bad meal. While the Greek salad with lamb is my usual go-to dish, tonight I decided to branch out and order the lamb gyro and it did not disappoint. The lamb is grilled perfectly and has just enough char to give it a great straight-off-the-grill taste. It's sliced thick, and the serving is more than most places give you which is always a plus. Also, while trivial, they have some of the best French fries around. They're super crunchy, not spongy at all, and aren't covered in oil. My waiter Matt was also amazing, and could not have been more attentive. The restaurant also underwent a renovation in the last year, and it's definitely much nicer inside now with hardwood floors and updated decor.
