A Wonderful 70th Birthday Celebration at Melange I gave my wife's 70th birthday party at Melange, and I could not have chosen a better place to celebrate this special occasion! The service, food, and atmosphere were absolutely impeccable. I had 30 guests, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, especially considering the short notice. From the moment we arrived, everyone was professional, welcoming, and attentive to our needs. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and the entire experience made my wife's 70th birthday truly memorable. Wow...over the top delicious. Our sincere compliments to the chef. The pork chop was outstanding and wins as best dish of our party of 6. My shrimp and grits were also amazing...huge succulent shrimp mixed with grits and onions and other ingredients...so good. Generous portions and all very fresh. The others raved about their seafood dishes...one was the special. Our server, Abdul, was perfect. He did not miss a beat and wanted to please. He truly added to a very nice dining experience. The manager was visible and stopped by our table to check how things were. A place always runs best when a manager or owner is nearby. She truly cares about her customers and we all appreciated that. Sooooo...being locals, this would have been our new "go to" place and added to our rotation, however, and sad to say, the noise level made it impossible to carry on a conversation without shouting across the table. Many restaurants are loud these days but this was too much especially since it is fine dining prices. Our party of six could barely hear the person seated next to them let alone at the other end. A very talented trio band was playing in the bar next to the dining room where we were seated. It wasn't over the top loud but loud enough to add to the noise level. We really wanted to love this restaurant and such a shame, however if you can't have a conversation it changes the game. Here for our first visit. The chef was at Rocco's which is now closed so we figured since we always liked Rocco's we would check this new place out. Ambiance is basically the old sycamore grill or il sol. But much more up class cloth napkins and tablecloths. We like that. Also, touted as southern Louisiana/ Italian. ?! We sat at the bar which we usually prefer. Our barkeep was wonderful. She made a couple of nice martini's and was cheerful and simpatico. We got a couple of appetizers and shared. I loved the fried oysters they were deep fried. The crab cheesecake was ok my wife liked it I was not overly impressed there was a lot of crab in there however. We ordered a bottle of Cederberg SA Chenin Blanc. Very nice. For our mains we got shrimp grits and a barramundi. My fish was outstanding. Perfectly cooked with obvious grill markings and wonderful flavor. My wife loved her shrimp dish. Except there were shells on the shrimp. Why can't high endy places remove the shells before serving? Interiors Matter and Why The gray-and-black decor is easy on the eyes. We loved the abstract jazz art mural on one wall in the space. The etched-glass sycamore trees on the interior stationary windows that act as dividers between the bar and the main dining area serve as both art and functional transitions, and they were inspired and speak volumes about Chef's ability to envision his perfect restaurant. A large abstract art mural was strategically placed to give the room just enough interest without overloading it with unnecessary decor or busyness. The black-and-glass wall sconces were especially delightful. The lighting was the right level of brightness for daytime dining. The tables had small, black, unobtrusive table lamps that provided the perfect amount of light to illuminate menus. Greeted by Erica We were greeted by Erica, who I assume is the manager, because she was engaging and friendly, and gave us a bit of information about the restaurant, informed us that our server's name was Peter, and said we would be arriving shortly to start taking our order. The Magic and What We Enjoyed Most And then the magic began. We were greeted by Peter, and he gave us the day's specials. We placed our order for two appetizers, Crab Cheesecake and Fried Oysters. We ordered our entrees: Rosemary Half Chicken and Pan-Seared Scallops with Corn Maque Choux. After dinner, we ordered six desserts, yes, six! Bananas Foster Crepes, Bread Pudding, Sweet Potato Cheesecake, Tiramisu, and Pecan Pie. We would have ordered seven, but I am sensitive to walnuts and the special was a mocha pound cake with walnuts. Crab cheesecake ~this delectable delicacy was honestly the best dish I've ever eaten in my 65 years on this planet. I'm not exaggerating. The unexpected pecan crust works so well with this dish; I would never have believed that pecans could elevate it so much. The Mushroom and onion sauté was simply the most buttery, smooth, and delicate yet hearty, well-balanced, and flavorful sauce ever! If I could, I would choose to drown in a vat of this sauce for my demise. This dish was my absolute hands-down favorite food I Fried Oysters - these were mouthwateringly tender. They were crispy but not grainy; they were crunchy without being greasy. True perfection, and the horseradish-dijon mustard cream reduction made me want to shout out with joy, as it was not spicy, but so flavorful and perfectly balanced. I asked Chef Brown about the cream sauce, and he said very matter-of-factly, "It's just horseradish, dijon mustard, and cream." I am sure there was some magic to this sauce because it was so perfect. Rosemary Roasted Half Chicken - The half roasted chicken was moist and infused with flavor. We usually find the breast to be dry, but this breast, thigh, and leg were equally juicy. Pan-Seared Scallops with Corn Maque Choux - Scallops were cooked to perfection, with the perfect amount of yield, the perfect amount of gentle crispness from the pan-searing, beautiful brown, glistening rounds of delectable deliciousness. Chef's maque choux is incredible. I could eat it because it wasn't spicy. Bananas Foster Crêpes - I was very pleased with this fine offering! The rum-brown sugar sauce was heavenly, and the ice cream was incredible, but those caramelized bananas were the bees knees! I have always been a fan of bananas, but if they are in some type of caramel well anything, it makes them that much more appetizing. Louisiana Bread Pudding with Bourbon Cream Sauce - the bread pudding was fantastic; in our opinion, there is a fine line between too wet and just wet enough, and this was perfectly in the middle, not too wet and not too dry. The amazing flavor reminded me of my own recipe. Classic Italian Tiramisu - this is the one dish that I could not try. I'm very sensitive to caffeine and espresso, and cocoa would send my heart racing, so I didn't try it. My husband loves it, and he is a tiramisu purist. He said it was as authentic as any he had consumed in Europe or here in the States. Sweet Potato Cheesecake - this was off-the-charts delicious and quite reminiscent of my grandmother's sweet potato pie, with the extra wow of cheesecake that made it a delight. My husband felt that it had just the right amount of nutmeg as well, and he usually doesn't care for nutmeg. Pecan Pie - this was one of the specials of the evening. It was simply wonderful. Peach Cobbler - Creamy! Yes, the peach cobbler was creamy and wonderfully delectable, with fresh, juicy peaches and not too sweet, and a buttery cobbler crust that simply can't be compared to anything we've had. Simply divine. To summarize this dining experience in three words, I would say: "Simply The Best." Simply, because everything was done without a ton of fanfare. Simple ingredients, fresh and delicious. There were no misses here. Service, impeccable. Quality, the highest. Food exceeded all expectations. Atmosphere - perfection. 10 out of 10! read more

Came in for a girl's night and Ed, our server, took amazing care of us. Helped me choose between the entrees, had us laughing, and gave great service without being intrusive. The portions were HUGE! Took home half of everything we had. Flavors were on point. I had the special soup (corn chowder with crawfish), Jambalaya, and bread pudding. All were fantastic. And the drink pours are generous too. I had the white orchid and the martini glass was full! And my Aunts' wine pours were large too. I can't wait to come back and try more if the menu. I missed the parking lot in the back, but there was ample street parking on a Tuesday night. Restaurant has a nice ambiance as well. And they did a nice job spreading out guests so you weren't on top of each other, which doesn't always happen on a slower evening. Thanks for a great 1st meal there! read more

Party of 4 had a nice round of excellent martinis. Appetizers include cajun cheesecake which was delicious with a Crab cream sauce. Bacon Wrapped Scallops and grilled octopus. All appetizers were really unique and very flavorful. Entrees of Handmade Ravioli stuffed with Braised short rib and cheese and a demi glaze....delicous. The Jambalaya entree was a treat with just enough southern heat to make it memorable. All portions were generous and filling. Dessert's included a wonderful Bananas Foster in Crepe, Fresh Cobbler (peach i think as I had the Foster) and a number of other selections. The menu has lots to choose from and to be honest I was torn between a number of selections. Rack of Lamb, Cajun Catfish, Jambalaya, Chicken Red Beans and Rice, Prime steak and about 8 others I can't remember. Overall a super meal and evening which while the area has some good restaurants this was by far in the top 1 or 2. Service staff was cheerful, knowledgeable and attentive. On Friday 8/14 my wife Joanne and I celebrated her 72nd birthday at Melange on Sycamore. It was our first time there but I guarantee It will not be our last! The entire experience was first class. 2-hour lunch on a Tuesday, only 11 patrons the whole time. Joe is a good chef and the food we had (4of us) was pretty good but expensive. Glaringly, only about 8-9 beers listed $10-12 per beer. Bottles only, owner claimed that "never have tap beer, it is dirty and labor intensive". The beer list had only 1 domestic: Ultra; the rest were foreign or craft. The martini pour was generous but $18. Menu is limited and expensive plus the owner is not very friendly. read more

We tried Melange last night - after all the hype here are my thoughts... The ambiance and friendliness of the staff is welcoming and pleasant. We had the crabmeat cheesecake that everyone raves about - it was just ok. It was more like a crab quiche. I had the shrimp and grits which was very good. But my husband had the Seafood Jumbalaia and was disappointed because it was dry, they include all the shells in the dish which was unnecessary. Tons and tons of rice but very dry. We had the bananas foster for desert which was excellent and the best part of the meal. But after two beers and one glass of Prosecco plus tip we were at just under $200 for the meal. Those are NYC prices so I suspect they will need to scale back their pricing to survive. Beautiful building and easy parking but don't think we'll be back for a while. read more

This was our second visit to Melange as my husband's choice for Father's Day and I'm glad that he made that choice. As usual the chef did not disappoint. The bean and sausage soup was delicious that my husband ate. I had a mixed green salad with dried fruit, candied nuts and blue cheese which was excellent. My daughter had the lobster bisque and she was happy with the chunks of seafood in the bisque. Our Dinner entrees were the Fra Diablo, Fruiti de Mar and the Glazed Pork Chop, all of which were awesome. But my absolute favorite was the Kahlua cake for dessert. As customers of Chef Brown's Cherry Hill restaurant, Melange, we were thrilled to see he opened a place in Newtown( we now live in Pa). The menu contained some of our favorites including the Smoked Crab Bisque(decadent and delicious), fried oysters and Jambalaya. My husband also enjoyed the scallops on a bed of corn and peppers. The new place is decorated beautifully and has an excellent drink menu. Our servers, Lauren and Emilio were very informative as well as warm And friendly. A little pricey but well worth it! Outstanding experience! Celebrated a family birthday there last night and it was just perfection , from the welcoming staff to the final birthday dessert. Malange is an amazing addition to the Newtown restaurant scene which is already pretty competitive . Congratulations to the Chef who pulls everything off to perfection ..from a steak to fall off the bone short ribs and jambalaya . There is real restaurant know how going on here on here from a relaxed flow to the cocktails and the little touches that enhance the table without being asked for . We had a delicious dinner at Melange on Sycamore. We were lucky enough to be seated outside on a perfect evening. We started with Crab Cheesecake and Fried Oysters which were both unique and tasty. Dinner was Shrimp and Grits, Seafood Jambalaya, Scallops, and Seafood Salad. All four of us were delighted with our entrees. We also had coconut gelato for dessert which was very flavorful and creamy. Erica the manager was extremely hospitable and checked on us to make sure we were enjoying our experience. Our party of 4 had an exquisite dining experience at Melange. We were immediately greeted and seated for our reservation. Our waiter was kind enough to provide the dinner specials while we waited for our friends to join us. 3 of us ordered wine and 1 ordered the smoked New Orleans Old Fashioned. All of the drinks were very good. We started with the caprese flat bread. It was served baked perfect and warm with delicious tomatoes and mozzarella. I opted for the pork chop which was outstanding, perfectly cooked and glazed with a maple & ginger sauce that was a perfect combination of sweet and savory. My wife had shrimp & grits which she loved, our party had duck gumbo & the salmon special which was served on a bed of home made fettucine, both elicited raves. We finished with desserts of tiramisu, sweet potato cannoli & creme brulee, all of which were excellent. The room was a bit noisy, but the manager assured us they are actively looking for ways to improve the acoustics. Overall we were extremely impressed. Chef Brown's deft hand at flavor profile composition was evident throughout the meal and we appreciate the great care with which we were treated. We will definitely be back! read more
