Mixed Greek Spreads - spicy feta ranks #1 in taste, then tzatziki, hummus and eggplant.

3/4 of us always love our Local Greek experience. Ambience in this cozy neighborhood eatery that is bright and warm and full of dinners with friends makes this a 10/10. BYOB and starters kick us off in an awesome direction - highly recommend fork tender lemon potatoes (were they marinated overnight?! How did they get this good?!), Greek dips (I love them all, give or take the eggplant which could be swapped for a baba ghanoush to make it a 10/10). Pita - generous and addictive. Dolmades - my older daughter's favorite - demolished in less than 15 minutes. The winning entree was the all time favorite whole branzino and yes, you can get it filleted! My kids like the whole fish presentation. The Greek salad with all entrees has a generous chunk of feta but all of us agree- please stick to the tomatoes, cucumber and onion we're used to (and lose the peppers). My husband's moussaka was a miss - potatoes were very undercooked and no amount of kindly taking it back and reheating seemed to work, but this is the place where you could ask and know your server cared to make it right. Spanakopita was a bit off this time too - still delicious, but a touch doughy and tough. I love a flaky spinach triangle (reference: St. George Greek Fest/Hamilton, Mikonos/Ewing) with light buttery layers as my favorite. As usual, we had been serious bigbacks throughout the meal at Local Greek and had no room for dessert, but sorely tempted as their list goes beyond the basics. Would love to see the green beans entree as a side. We bet those are delicious. BYOB a major plus, but still prepare to spend $$$. Happy we got to get a coveted reservation here (yes, at least a day in advance) to celebrate a special occasion.

Local Greek, which made its debut on November 19, 2017, is a bustling bistro cum - bakery & market. The cozy, diminutive interior, boasting wooden floors, white subway tile, whitewashed walls, and rustic wooden tables built by the owner's first cousin, a general contractor and architect, is a big part of the restaurant's appeal. And when the joint is jumping, especially at dinner, things can get pretty tight seating-wise. But that's all part of the fun. Fortunately, there is a side room that helps alleviate the crush in the main dining area. Authentic Greek cuisine is the order of the day, with meze - the Greek version of tapas (small plates) taking center stage. Sweet and savory homemade style pastries and desserts are made fresh daily in the restaurant's bakery; and the market features imported items such as Greek olive oil, coffee, tea, chocolates, and snacks. The small plates change weekly, affording diners numerous seasonal options. They are also sizeable enough for couples or larger parties to mix and match as appetizers. Several of the usual suspects are present and accounted for - Dolmades (grapes leaves stuffed with rice and Greek herbs with yogurt sauce) and Hummus (a spread composed of mashed chickpeas, garlic, lemon, tahini & olive oil), for instance. For something a bit different, however, be sure to try the Kolokithokeftedes, zucchini fritters. My dining partner and I recently sampled a delightful variation on the theme, Tomatokeftedes (pictured) fritters filled with tomato, mashed potatoes, and feta cheese served with a zesty tzatziki sauce. Other interesting possibilities include Gigantes, large lima beans swimming in a Greek herbed tomato sauce; Xtapodi, grilled marinated octopus with herbs, olive oil, and vinegar; and four Greek Spreads, featuring tzatziki, spicy feta, eggplant, and taramosalata (salted and cured cod roe mixed with olive oil and lemon juice). On the other hand, it's hard to resist the tasty charms of Saganaki, Greek flaming cheese drizzled with ouzo. As photogenic as it is delicious. As you move on to the entrées, the kitchen continues its excellent work. Especially recommended are those dishes that have become synonymous with Greek cooking... The Moussaka, a combo of eggplant, potatoes, and ground beef topped with béchamel sauce, is benchmark... ditto the vegetarian version. And speaking of vegetarian, the Briam, traditional Greek roasted vegetables combined with kasseri - a stringy-textured cheese made from unpasteurized sheep and goat's milk - in tomato sauce and topped with feta cheese is also a first-rate rendition... But I was particularly taken with the Pastitsio (pictured) - often referred to as Greek lasagna - a stunning combination of tubular pasta, beautifully seasoned ground beef, and luscious béchamel sauce. Another traditional Greek presentation that deserves mention is the Papoutsaki (pictured), so named because the it resembles "little shoes." A baby eggplant is hollowed out, filled with ground beef (or vegetables) and potatoes and then topped with béchamel sauce. The rendition from Local Greek is also served up with an attractive small salad. This is a relatively straight-forward dish, but one that my dining partner thoroughly enjoyed. A slight variation on the theme, also quite good, is the Gemista, tomatoes stuffed with ground beef accompanied by kasseri cheese and herbed rice & pine nuts. Other interesting entrées include Spaghetti Bolognese, a meat sauce with decidedly Greek oriented seasonings; Stuffed Peppers, roasted bell peppers filled with herbed rice & pine nuts; Shrimp Souvlaki, kebab served over rice with avocado and baby kale; and a Mixed Grill Platter, an amalgam of Greek sausage, pork & chicken gyro, beefteki (beef patties), and Greek fries served up for two or four. My favorite, however, would be the simple but seductive Solomos (pictured), grilled salmon filet sided by luscious lemon potatoes and horta (sautéed greens). Desserts (as noted above) are all made fresh daily in the restaurant's bakery and are easily washed down with a double espresso courtesy of the highly rated Portioli Style Coffee. Baklava, of course, is the sweet ending that immediately comes to mind; and it is excellent... as is the Ravani (Greek-style lemon zest sponge cake), Karidopita (Greek-style walnut cake), and the bakery's other offerings. My nod, however, clearly goes to the incomparable Galaktobouriko (pictured), fillo dough filled with semolina custard surrounded by a pool of Greek honey... And bear in mind that the kitchen also serves up an impressive assortment of savory homemade pastries as well as a variety of Greek-style breakfasts. Whether stopping in for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or an afternoon pick-me-up, Local Greek has all the bases covered... deliciously. If you're planning a noonday or evening visit, however, just don't forget to BYOB.

Came here for lunch with 10 people after apple picking. They have a huge space and didn't think to make a reservation but just called ahead to see if they could accommodate and tables were pushed together for us before we walked in. Was a great spot to share a few salads and then people order what they wanted. They also have a really cute outdoor seating area. Also very generous portions and great food!

One of the best little local finds I've come across! This hidden restaurant sets such a nice and cozy mood. The staff were very attentive to our table. The food was absolutely amazing (I got the pork gyro and Greek fries)! Well prepared, huge portions and an overall welcoming feel. Will definitely recommend and return.

Grab a bottle of wine (BYOB!) and enjoy some traditional Greek dishes with friends. The cozy interior and phenomenal food combine for a wonderful dining experience. We ordered the zucchini fritters as an appetizer. They were beautifully plated and tasted as good as they looked. It was a generous serving with 5 good-sized fritters and plenty of tzatziki (which I could've eaten by itself). For the main we both ordered lamb souvlaki. The price felt a bit steep ($33), but the lamb was admittedly delicious. It was not gamey and the rosemary and oregano enhanced the flavor. Reservations are recommended and there is not a whole lot of street parking available. Plan accordingly, but do plan to visit!

I was so excited to try this place! This place is well rated and I love Greek food. My husband and I thought the service was fine and the ambiance is cute (but it gets super loud!). However, the food really missed the mark flavor wise and quality wise. The chicken was dry and flavorless and I didn't want to finish my dish despite being hungry. The lemon potatoes were soggy and greasy. The mousaka was dry and also lacking flavor. We feel so lucky to have Kyma as our local Greek place! Heads up parking is tricky on the streets around the restaurant and they also charge an extra fee for using credit cards.

This place is now one of my favorite Greek spots in central New Jersey! Ambiance - warm lighting - tables perfect for large parties - honey and welcoming decor Service - staff was knowledgeable about the menu - food came out quickly Food - Greek spreads: came with a plate filled with warm soft pita and a variety of spreads: tzatziki, spiced feta cheese, hummus, baba ganoush. All of the spreads were delicious and also paired well with the mixed grill platter - Saganaki: this dish also came with a performance! Our waiter dimmed the lights in the room and lit the cheese on fire. The cheese was melt, gooey and had a pleasant sharp flavor - Kipos Salad: the lemony honey dressing was delicious and I especially loved the dried figs in the salad - Mixed grill platter: this was plenty for 6 people! The tzatziki and hot sauce paired well with the gyro and fries

The food was good, the wait staff was super friendly and professional. We ordered the appetizer spread, stuffed chicken, moussaka, and lamb kafta. Afterwards we had coffee and shared galaktoboureko. The spread was plenty to share for four and there're a lot of pita bread. All entrees came with salad and a side except miussaka. The galaktobouresko was big enough to let everyone have a bite.

Our daughter wanted Greek food on her birthday. So we ordered food from Local Greek using Grubhub (Grubhub or Doordash do not cover another good local Greek restaurant here). This restaurant is slightly on the expensive side. However, we ordered four dishes and each dish was very tasty. The food also came relatively soon. We would gladly order food from here or do a dine-in in the coming months.
