Canal View Cafe is a good place to go for a fine comfortable meal on Oneida Lake. As you would expect, this place is located along side the canal right outside the Sylvan Beach amusement park. The menu is pretty diverse and there are always some specials to check out. The service is always pretty good and everything on the menu has been good to try. When looking for a lighter bite, their Gyro Platter is a good choice. When looking for a bigger meal, keep an eye out for their Saltimboca (choice of chicken or veal) which is becoming a favorite of mine. They also have some of the best Clam Chowder in the beach. What I like about Canal View is that it's one of the few places still within the beach that offers a little more than a glorified bar menu and still offers a great view of the lake. This place has slowly but surely become one of our go-to places when looking to grab a good meal on the water. read more

All the reviews are right. Super friendly fast service. Bam bam shrimp is tasty maybe a bit over sauced. Italian wedding soup definitely homemade. Excellent. Skip the clam strips but the garlic fries are to die. Pork sandwich tender with yummy gravy. Will definitely come back read more

We were traveling from Georgia to New York to visit family and there were two places open, this one and eddies restaurant. We parked and walked up to the window to ask to be seated on the patio outside ....the blonde woman proceeded to tell me that they do not allow dogs on the patio at all . I said the patio ? Outside? She once again said yes we do not allow any kind of dogs on our patios and closed the window after we said ok we will go somewhere else I guess . Let me explain , first of all there was myself with my 3 lb Maltese service animal in my arms and I had full documentation if needed but it was never asked for and second the place barely had a few people there and there was no reason they couldn't be accommodating to us on a patio outside where there was no one else at . This was not a "dog" but my service animal and I was asking to eat outside not inside . Myself , husband and little girl walked clear across the beach to the eddies and were greeted politely with no issues and even offered a biscuit for my service animal and they put out a bowl of water . I can understand if someone was trying to eat on a patio that was busy with a large animal but this was my service animal weighing barely 3 lbs and with documentation . Thank u to the wonderful people at Eddies restaurant that treated my family with respect and had a nice little patio for us to visit family at while in town . Just an FYI to businesses that service animals can come inside your restaurants and your patios and what u did was not only wrong but illegal in a lot of places and I will never recommend your business to any friends or family that pass through or come to the area ever . Having to walk across the beach to get better service and treatment was appalling and maybe you should consider the policy that people are reverberating . "We don't allow dogs on our patios" . I legally could've ate inside with him and I am just not that person to bring them inside while others are eating out of politeness and being such a beautiful day the patio would've been the least of your worries besides the poor customer service . read more

My husband and I went to Canal view for our Anniversary. We ordered our steak dinners and as always everything was perfect. From the food to the beautiful lake view we had from our seats by the back windows to the most friendly staff members that not only greet you when you come in but also make a stop by your table to see how everything is. Our first date was at your resteraunt and after my husband proposed to me we came to your resteraunt to dine. Great staff, food and view. We will visit again and again. read more

Stopped in on a Friday night. Did not have to wait to be seated .Seated outside (at our request) on a beautiful night with a beautiful view. Our food came quickly and was delicious. Our waitress (Lindsey) was attentive and very sweet. We will definitely be returning. read more

Place is a dump don't be fooled by their web page. lights are dim because it hide the filth. Two out of the 5 meals had spoiled meat. Egg plant was frozen crap drowned in cheese paste dish was so so. Owners are rude and staff were friendly but not to bright. read more

Not impressed, service was fast, Ordered the All American Hamburger . for 8.99. Burger was very small, dry, unseasoned, unimpressive, and a disappointment for the price. Fries looked homemade with skins still on, cut thing. Fries were very good in general but portioned about the same size as our miniscule bland burgers, again unimpressed. The others I was with also ordered the same, both were unimpressed and with similar feelings and left hungry. Bill with drinks came to around $12.00 with drink each plus tip around $15.00 each. We are "Loopers", here by boat, and decided to check this place out for a late lunch based on YELP reviews. The reviews are accurate ... great view of the lake, friendly service (LIZ), good food, and nice selection of craft beers. Their specialty appetizer, Bam Bam Shrimp, were excellent -- though served on cold lettuce greens that took away some heat from the dish. The mains, Scallops St. Jacque, and the Reuben sandwich were also excellent. Would definitely recommend, and will come back. read more

This place is ridiculous. I walked in the place with 2 other people and wasn't sorely greeted. I asked the blonde woman at the desk if had to wait to be seated. She firmly told me yes and to stand there. As put off as we were we decided to stay and try the food anyways. After being seated we placed an order and were waiting for nachos and a sandwich for 30 minutes. Not once did our "waitress" come check on us (she happened to be the same blonde that "helped" us). My group decided we did not want to wait anymore and we got up to leave. At no point were we stopped even as our "waitress" saw us leaving. The one star I am giving you is only for the overwhelming history and decor on your walls! This is a place I will not return to and neither should anyone else! read more

First, the view is beautiful...if you can get seated outside. The wait for a table is really long, mostly because they don't seem to have a systematic seating system. The waitresses are nice, but the food takes hours-- and I'm not exaggerating that-- to be served. We were here for three hours from checking in with the hostess to finally checking out. When you do finally get the food it is tasty, but it just takes so long that's it's almost not worth it. Sylvan beach restaurants seem to think that they can sacrifice service because of the location but they can do so much better .... read more

We stopped at 4 pm with a party of five, two being our grandchildren. We ordered UTICA greens, best we have had. There were 5 tables with people in them, and some outside tables with folks at them. Not busy at all - yet the service was horrible. We placed our order, a very simple order, a salad, two children's chicken meals, a club sandwich and stuffed tuna tomatoe and a cup of soup at 4:10 pm. The soup never came and at 4:55 pm the order finally came out. Our waitress was hard to find, and as far as refills go, no waitress to even ask us. The quality of the food was great, but these waitresses need some training in taking care of the customers and someone needs to crack the whip in that kitchen. I would hate to see what it is like with a full room of customers!!! A $76 mess, never had this type of wait at Eddy's, even when they are full!! read more

My very favorite local restaurant!! a "must-do" for us at least once every week or two. Consistently great food. We like that I can order a sandwich for dinner while my husband can order and enjoy a full meal. Clean, casual surroundings with lovely views. Local antiques and memorabilia used in the décor can be appreciated while waiting for an order up. Or...we can joke with the friendly staff whom we've come to know and look forward to seeing at each visit. read more
