I was a little confused how to get in so we walked in to the restaurant (The Hive Social) and asked. They let us to the secret stair case and said we'd need to figure out the rest for ourselves. And we did. The portrait swung open and we discovered the coolest bar! The ambiance was very cozy and perfect for our date night. Our server was very friendly and made some suggestions when asked. We ordered a couple rounds of drinks and several small plates to share. They even staggered our apps to not overwhelm our cozy table. Everything was delicious. Well worth the drive and we will be back for sure (and probably bring friends)!

After having such a talented group of workers that take such pride in their work it saddens me when I drive into the parking lot it looks like the store has been abandoned for years. It's like going to a grocery store and it's out of wheat bread! My only option for a simple sprinkler fix there was to buy either a galvanized coupling for $5 or a copper something for $13 instead of $2 pvc fitting! Neither of these are appropriate for typical irrigation work. On top of that, a quart of floetrol paint additive is $3 more than Home Depot! So frustrated, I put everything I had to buy back on the shelf and drove to Home Depot where I should have gone to begin with. Staff are courteous enough at Parkrose, but I get way better service, experience, price and reliability from HD! And by the way Home Depot had 2 boxes of my couplings out on the shelf, and more stock above. Not sure if it's the management in West Linn or it's just the way this "local" chain operates, but I'm not wasting my time driving there again! Two star review before, one star now!

They were friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely went above and beyond to help me get what I needed. The products were excellent as well. I left that day thinking this is exactly why I like supporting a local business instead of automatically going to a big-box store. During that purchase I also ordered copper caps for my 6x6 posts. I later received a text letting me know they were ready, so I returned to the store to pick them up, arriving approximately 20 minutes before closing. Unfortunately, this second visit couldn't have been more different. Stacey was working at the register. From the moment I walked in, the interaction felt cold. There wasn't even a greeting until I initiated one myself. When I explained that I was there to pick up the copper caps, I was told I needed to pay for them. I explained that I had been under the impression they were included with the purchase I had already made. To be clear, I have no problem whatsoever with there being confusion about whether something had been paid for. Mistakes and misunderstandings happen in every business. What bothered me was the way the situation was handled. Rather than feeling like, "No problem, let's pull up your transaction and figure this out," I felt like my question was irritating and that I was inconveniencing the person behind the counter. I didn't have my paper receipt with me. Eventually, after showing the amount and date of the transaction on my credit card, the original invoice was located and printed. But even while trying to resolve what was really a very simple issue, the interaction continued to feel annoyed and unfriendly rather than solution-oriented. I later learned that Stacey is the owner/president of Clark Lumber, which honestly made the experience more disappointing, not less. That contrast is what stands out to me most. David and Salome made me want to become a repeat customer. The owner made me question whether I ever want to return. I don't think it would be fair to give the entire business one star because the employees I dealt with previously were exceptional and the products were very good. That's why I'm giving three stars overall. But customer experience matters, particularly when it comes from the person at the top of the company. A billing misunderstanding doesn't have to cost a business a customer. How you make that customer feel while resolving it absolutely can.

So I was happy to see Ace Hardware & Paint renovate the space and so far it has a good selection and tremendously nice and helpful employees. Having a complete hardware store (rather than the hit or miss Historic General Store) fits a need that was missing in our community. It turns out I was their first paint customer and I picked up several sample pints of Clark + Kensington Paint ($4.99/sample). They also stock Valspar. They have a 'paint expert' and a few other employees learning the ropes. I also picked up a few other household items, including a replacement coffee pot and the price was less than Fred Meyer. The store is bursting with merchandise, so much so that some of their stock is spilling out on the front patio. Although the location is light and bright, especially the floor to ceiling windows along the paint section, it feels a bit cramped with narrow aisles. It is a nice touch to have a complimentary coffee and soda bar (Pepsi products) for customers and a tool chest filled with candy for the kids.
