This is my 3rd time to the Candlelite Inn. The ambiance is really cool because they have been a staple in Arlington since the 50's with great painted murals and the original decor. But they do need to update the restaurant. Don't expect a fancy restaurant with top notch food or service. We were sat in an old both that was duck taped all across that that would stick to your pants when you sat down. The awesome thing was the table jukebox but unfortunately it was out of order still. The lighting is very dim and hard to read the menu. We were seated and told twice that someone would get our chips and salsa, but finally on the 3rd person got this. The food.......not the best food but fair for the price that you are paying. I ordered the smothered chicken, baked potato and salad. Smothered chicken breast is pretty bland with cheese, mushrooms and onions melted on top, still leaving the chicken blander than I like it. Don't expect a real salad, you get shredded lettuce from the tacos with some tomato on it. The potato was great to me but my other person's was not completely done. The service was a bit disorganized and slow. With all that said.....my mother-in-law loves this place because the portions are big enough for her to take a to-go box for the next day. I know this place is a big hit with the elderly crowd. But if you want a nostalgic place for the history, this is the place for you. Much cleaner than the old Candlelite but food just as mediocre as I remembered. Go here for a nostalgic evening but not the food. The portions are big but plated much as a fast food restaurant. I won't go back for the food but kind of like going to Six Flags or Joe T. Garcia's--go for the fun atmosphere but don't plan to sit long in the small uncomfortable metal chairs! read more

Glad they reopened. Husband and I used to go to the original over 30 years ago, so for us it's more of the feeling, but they still have the best, coldest schooners of beer and I enjoy the margaritas-on-the-rocks. We order the steak dinners, and the meat has been good, but could use more seasoning and consistency (some thin and some very thick). I do enjoy the green jalapeno salsa, and cover my steak in it. The Texas toast and baked potato are basic. The service has also been great. read more

We live an hour away so we can't go as often as we would like. We have been eating there since 1965 when we were dating in high school and decided to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary there. We found the newly re-built/re-opened place to be fantastic and the food and service was even better than I had remembered! It doesn't matter what you're hungry for, they have it! Food is always delicious and the menu serves everyone. The prices are also reasonable and I can feed my family of 6 and not have to go get a loan. The staff is always polite and honest. Today I left my cell phone on the table and called back in 25 minutes when I realized I left it there. They said they tried to open the phone but it was locked and could not contact me, but when I called they said they have the phone and I could e back up there and get it. Amazing atmosphere. Waitress was on point with checking on us. Food was very good. Drinks were amazing especially the Stawberry Margarita. The variety of food was good. This is review of the new Candlelite Inn. Pros- food was pretty good, we ordered the shrimp fajitas and the shrimp was very good and the portions were good. Atmosphere is nice- Cons- poor service- our food got cold- they didn't bring up enough tortillas- by time waiter came back it was cold- plus there avocado was in the lettuce . The atmosphere of the Candlelite Inn is cozy and homey. I think this is the biggest reason for its popularity. Also, the food is wonderful. They have an extensive menu with the most reasonable prices. However, the service is slow. Really slow. I recently went there and had to remind my server three times of my drink order. Tonight was the first time for my husband and myself to visit this establishment and it was wonderful! The Caesar salad was fantastic. Usually restaurants put way to much dressing and this was perfect. I could have eaten the whole bowl. We also had the chips and salsa and chicken rolled with jalapeño. I can not say enough. When I was a kid, our big night out was to go to the Candlelight inn. The steaks are so wonderful and the Mexican food was excellent. When I was younger we had butter with the tortilla chips, but now they have salsa, either green or red. The steaks are to die for and the pasta is great. The margaritas are inexpensive and so good. The waitresses all seem to have been there for a long time and are so helpful. If you are in Arlington, even for the Cowboys they are not open, so just stay another day to eat here. read more

I wasn't very impressed. There were a lot of great reviews and I remembered that this place was an Arlington institution. I was quite disappointed in our service. My appetizer wasn't ordered in a timely manner so it would have come out after my meal, which we could deal with. The manager gave it to us half price without us saying a single complaint. Then my husband's steak came out over cooked, they took it back and made him another one which came out raw. A waitress explained to us that it is because there are now white people working in the kitchen rather than mexicans. Another waitress told us that it was because the kitchen workers were stupid. I've been sitting here for 10 minutes waiting on my to go box and ticket. Other servers have been more attentive to us than the one that is supposed to be with us. read more

Love the #9. We had always come here as teenagers and then just stopped. When they reopened we come here all the time. The food is great, the wait staff is awesome and I love that it has a small home town feel. You must get dessert even if you are to full, take it with you! Red velvet cake and chocolate shealth cake. Went here the other night. I had been here before and really liked it. Took my wife, she ordered Italian food and raved about it saying I have found my new favorite restaurant. I had Mexican that night and it was really good. Some of the best I've ever had. We liked it so much that we went back the next day and both ordered separate 7" pizzas, different kinds. Just enough for one person and it was also good. I highly recommend this restaurant. It has good prices. We will go back and I am anxious to have one of their steaks. My husband grew up in the GP/Arlington area, so he grew up eating at the Candlelight Inn. He took my son and I there yesterday for the first time. IT WAS GREAT! My husband and I had the beef fajitas for two and my son had cheese quesadillas. Everything tasted great. (Guacamole is good, creamy, not chunky, but a bit too much citrus.) The waitstaff was pleasant. There's some trial and error still going on with the kitchen and waitstaff. (had to ask for drink refills several times, had to remind server of forgotten sides a couple times, took about 45 minutes to get our fajitas, server took over 15 minutes to come back and get our card for payment, etc.) It seemed as though the servers had tables all over instead of one 4 table section, for instance. Be prepared to wait for a table. It's a very popular place. We tried going on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 and there was already a 45 minute wait. (And we were told that by 6:00, it was an hour and a half wait at that point.) We got there at about 11:15 Sunday and were sat down immediately. When we left, there were many, many people waiting - lines going down both sides of building. They have a large banquet room with vaulted ceiling and lots of room. They also have a small (very, very small) private room for use. We have definitely found a fave place! read more

Went there before the remodel with the family for a cheap meal and a menu for everyones' mood. We make the drive to make a memory. See a juke box, eat salsa verde, to sit in the unique quaintness of The Inn. Not for some dining comparison. We always left happier than when we came in. Finally remembered what mexican food tastes like. The beef enchilada's were the special last night so we both tried it. Now I remember what real food tastes like and the nostalgia of going back in time with good service and great food. The guacamole salad rocks. I am so glad to see this place hadn't closed down. It's food is authentic and doesn't taste like bland dog food like some of these other chain restaurants do these days. The staff was pleasant and I love their chips and salsa. The salsa reminds me of a place in Las Vegas I used to go to daily. Authentic and wonderful atmosphere. This resturant was a great place many years ago. It now is terrible. Their food taste like something a child would make. Back in the 70's and even 80's it was a awesome place to eat but I don't think the chefs give a crap anymore. Beer is watered down and I guarantee they serve frozen foods or canned foods. This place is my all time favorite restaurant in arlington. Foods great, service is usually great. The biggest draw back is they are not wheelchair friendly. Waited as groups upon groups got seated in front of us because we had to sit at a particular table. That table ate, then stayed for some after dinner chatting. Not their fault, frustrating but not their fault. This place was not apologetic nor empathetic to the situation. They let us walk out without so much as a goodbye. Arlington staple, and I'm so happy they rebuilt and reopened. That being said, came for dinner and it was not the same experience. Food is exactly the same as it has been. No issue there. Service was fine, however it took an hour to get our food. We were an 8 top. After 40 minutes I asked that my 4 year old's food be requested to fly from the kitchen ahead of our order. That happened, but our food came about 3 minutes later. One of our table guest's food was served 20 minutes after ours. I was stumped. There were a total of maybe 10 tables sat, yet the kitchen really struggled to keep up. All said and done we were there for almost 2 hours with a small child. Things just felt different. Prices aren't bad, wait staff and hosts are very friendly and the place is unbelievably clean, bathrooms are in great shape. I kid you not I didn't see a spec of dust in the whole place not even in the highest places, some booths had tears but even those were patched. The atmosphere was retro to its beginning. The steak I had was pretty decent, the baked potato was super small, might as well not even been on the plate. The house salad was a joke. If I was a business owner and I didn't provide a better house salad than what this place does, I wouldn't even offer one. It was pretty pathetic. The service, nothing to write home about, other than to say it was pretty poor. The waitress knew the labels for their beer, but nothing about them. I asked for a specific type, and was told they didn't carry anything like that. Then when I asked what was on draft, she listed two of the type I asked for to begin with. The price was ok for what I got, but that's putting it on a pretty fine line. I realize the place is historical to Arlington, but someone else can go bask in the history. Not so sure what all the rave was about? I see why they keep it so dark in there....so you can not see how nasty the place really is. The table was sticky and I felt like I needed a bath when I left. The burrito was just average. When the waitress took my drink order I asked for Diet Coke. She stated they they had Diet Dr Pepper and if it mattered? I told her yes it did. She brought me Diet Dr Pepper and thought I would not notice. She checked on me only one time when I saw the other wait staff checking on their tables multiple times. There were only about 10 people in the whole place and it was not like she had 20 tables to wait on. read more
