I finally tried out this spot for the first time and it was delightful. The lunch options were very accommodating and I enjoyed it very much for a decent price ---- especially here at the star. My server was very accommodating and saw that I had ear buds in --- resulting in our interaction being very quick. Regardless it got the job done and I demolished my sandwich. It had a very unique taste as I was not expecting the hint of spice. This made it taste much better anyways. Will definitely come back for the pizza for dinner! read more

The menu here is full of fantastic Italian options: sandwiches, pastas and pizza. We had a couple of salads, pizza, pasta and a dessert. I'm so glad we shared a little bit of everything because it was all sooooo good!! The salads are definitely big enough to split and were full of super fresh ingredients. The pizza is Neapolitan style. We were lucky enough to stop in at lunch time on Sunday and had chance to enjoy their $1 mimosa specials. What a deal!! Plus the location at the star is great for game day! Don't forget to check out the dessert menu too... we had one of their chocolate cannolis and their ladybird dessert pizza. That dessert pizza may be up there with the best desserts of all time in my opinion. I mean it has cookie butter! And their crust is doughy perfection!!! This place left so much to be desired. The calamari was too chewy and so bland, all of their cocktails are overly sweet, and the pizza didn't even seem like it cooked all the way. It was the soggiest pizza I've ever eaten. The service was terribly slow, the waitress forgot one of our entrees, we had to ask for we needed twice before we actually got it, and at one point I saw her sitting down at another table (I'm assuming they were her friends). First time trying the Frisco location , second time having Cane Rosso. We arrived before the dinner rush and were able to get a table right away, which was great since we'd skipped breakfast. Our sever was attentive and super nice. We started out with the Brussels sprouts and fried cheese as apps. The fried cheese was soft and warm but the sauce bland and cold. The Brussels stole the show in my opinion. Next we decided on the pizza of the month with prime rib and potatoes with a light horseradish sauce and of course our favorite , The Honey Bastard. The Bastard never disappoints and the pizza of the month was ok. Next time I'm having the Cesar salad and will try another pasta along with the HB. Authentic, fresh, amazing flavors! And they have deviled eggs? They have won me over already at just the appetizer! Cacio e Pepe deviled eggs!!!! My tastebuds hit the jackpot - great flavor combo! The other appetizers sounded good too. The Frosé was just the right amount of sweet and fruity but still strong enough to enjoy. We recently placed a $100 to-go order and had a pretty awful experience. When we walked in we waited for over 5 minutes before anyone even looked our direction. I finally went and found someone who did not speak English and she had no idea that I was asking for assistance. She said something to me in what I believe was Italian and then turned around and continued to clean tables. I finally flagged down a gentlemen who asked me to continue waiting for the "take out girl." We had to double check every dish and ask for everything from silverware, parm for the pizza and even napkins. The pizzas were somehow burnt on the bottom but still flimsy on top. The crust was so chewy and hard to eat. The Caesar salad was one of the worst I've ever had. It seemed like they gave us the worst of the romaine and the salad had barely any cheese or dressing with one tiny anchovy on top. My daughters butter noodles were so gross that she even refused to eat them and she's the butter noodle queen. I'm not sure how you manage to mess up butter noodles, but using old, hard noodles is one way to do it. The Brussels sprouts were ok, but they weren't cooked all the way through and the burrata was tasty, but it was missing ingredients listed on the menu. I honestly don't know if we would ever even give this place another try. It's hard to justify rude service and mediocre food. read more

I have a feeling I just may not appreciate brick oven pizza. Now hear me out, I am trash when it comes to pizza. Meaning I love my frozen pizza to death (holla at DiGiornos!) . So I came here for their dollar pizza deals and it was pretty packed. The staff was very attentive and notified everyone of the wait time and kept checking on us outside. Once we got inside, we gave a number and left. Came back a short time later and was seated. The interior is very spacious and clean. We ordered 2 Margherita pizzas and they were out to us in 20 minutes. The pizza was extremely hot, and the marinara tasted really good. However, because I am trash I guess I did not appreciate the pizza that much since I love an abundance of cheese which is not what it had. But thats just me. We came last Friday after our boys school homecoming game. We got there at 9:15 to get a table and were rudely turned away because they said they closed at 10. I even replied "um it's only 9:15" and they just stared at me. I was shocked, that's 45 minutes! We only had four people too, me (mom), my husband, and two young teens. Amazing! First time going today and I loved everything I ate. We ordered about five pizzas! The Star, Frankie, Margherita, OMB, and something not on the menu called a Hot B but was soooo good!!!! The crust is thin, but soft and delicious. The toppings are fresh and flavors intertwine perfectly! I may just go back for dinner tonight!!! Full disclosure I'm a true New Yorker, so I'm very critical about my pizza. That being said I have had a great pizza here in TEXAS but sadly it wasn't from this place. I first tried takeout and the pizza was very thin which I normally like but it was too thin making it fall apart when I picked it up. So I decided to dine-in because takeout could be tricky. Unfortunately it wasn't any better! The place was full and I was dinning alone so I sat at the bar; it took approximately 10 minutes for someone to greet me and give me a menu, another 10 minutes before they came back to take my order. So service was not that good. I ordered cheesy bread which was cold, truffle pasta which was too salty and a sangria which was the only good thing. I expected more from a place that's located in the star and sadly this place didn't live up to my expectations. I recommend you give it as try as everyone's taste is different but I won't be back. read more

Been there a couple of times. Pizza is good, although soggy in the middle. This last visit was a disaster. I went online to make a reservation, and the Cane Rosso website malfunctioned and lost my reservation. The site is NOT responsive, which means it works poorly on an iPhone, unless you jack with it for a while. Then you're flipped to open table, but not the page for making reservations. Very kludge. I've made reservations at other restaurants before via web/open table, but the Cane Rosso process is messed up. Bottom line, my reservation got lost and the hostesses, all three of them, did nothing to solve the problem, but instead went out of their way to argue with me and tell me I was wrong. They went so far as to show me both other reservations on their iPad. All while looking at 2 empty inside tables and at least 6 or 8 empty outside tables. They sure can work an iPad, but I don't think they get what their job is about. I understand Cane Rosso probably can't afford seasoned hostesses, but management should do a better job at training their staff in what it means to take care of a customer, or at least know when to get the manager when a problem arises. For the hostess to simply look at her iPad and then act like it's totally my problem is very off putting. Ended up going to Tri-Tip grill, where they were very happy to seat me even though they were busy, and I was happy to give them my money and a generous tip. read more

I have been to Cane Rosso several times and it was always good food and service. I brought a client this past sunday and the service was awful and the food was just ok. Chicken parm was not great and the pizza was not not crispy on the bottom. The server said " I'm sorry do you want the check" and i said "we have not received our food yet"...that would be nice after the food. He was very apologetic and did service recovery but... with the amount of restaurants in the area the service was unacceptable. Oh and did i mention the manager passed us multiple times, never stopped to ask how everything was. Probably too busy serving. We ordered a pizza to go and it came out on a plate...we said that is to go. Staff seemed overworked and short staffed. read more

Three stars is about right. This was the first time we visited the location at the The Star as the Fairview location is typically our go-to. The Honey Bastard is our favorite pizza but this time it just felt like it was uncooked. The middle was incredibly soggy and it wouldn't hurt for them to clean out the pizza oven every now and again so that you don't get ALL of the nasty black stuff on the bottom of the pizza (I know that's a thing, but this pizza was very nasty on the bottom). Also, the dessert "donuts" aren't really worth the price. There's always an odd number of "donuts" which I hate because someone has to fight for the last one. The chocolate had a very thick layer of unsightly grease on it. I know that dipping chocolate is made by adding a little oil for shine, but this was such a turn off to see if just sitting on top of the chocolate like that and when we tried to mix it ourselves it just stayed separated. The servers should do a better job ensuring that the presentation is on point before bringing it to the table. Nevertheless, $1 mimosas on Sunday will keep me coming back but we'll probably stick with the Fairview location from now on. read more

We ate there tonight early at 4pm with our 2 year old son. Being a pizza place, I thought it would be more kid friendly than it was- no kids menu or boosters/highchairs. Thankfully because we ate so early it wasn't a problem as the place was pretty empty, way more staff than diners. We enjoyed The Star and Emma pizzas, both were really good and came out pretty quickly. Our server was nice and very sweet to our son. When it came to our bill, the Emma pizza wasn't listed as half off like it said it would be on the menu as were there during the happy hour timeframe. I didn't ask, but maybe happy hour only applies to the bar area, it doesn't say that on the menu, but I know that is common for some restaurants. So we may have paid $7 during the happy hour timeframe unfortunately. The food is good and seems like a good time to go to check it out as traffic is still slow since not much is open at The Star yet. read more

The servers were ok, but damn. The kids there aren't paying attention. It took 30 minutes to get a pizza at the table and the place wasn't busy....at all. They brag about how it takes 90 seconds to cook the pizza so I don't get it. The pizza has good toppings but the dough is thin and very undercooked. They burned one pizza and told us about it and explained the delay, but then brought it uncut. I had to walk it to the bar and yell to get their attention (excuse me guys is all I said...about 4 times) and some kid cut it. Management needs to get on these kids. Loved Cane Rosso, our server was amazing! I feel bad for not remembering his name, but he was tall, dirty blonde hair, and glasses, made our family laugh a ton and we had a great time. The pizza was delicious, all 6 of us shared three and it was the perfect amount. The La Flama Blanca pizza was the best one. There were a number of open tables that they said were for reservations later that night. We walked around for a while and came back to check in (still had never received a text saying the table was ready) and the hostesses (there were 2) looked surprised to see us. There were still numerous open tables but she was going to give us a booth that a group had just left. It still needed to be cleaned which took them another ten minutes. I'm a huge fan of Cane Rosso in Deep Ellum. Funky, eclectic decor and a great location. And the food is very good. The food is good at the Frisco location, but the atmosphere is the polar opposite of Deep Ellum. Sterile, super-trendy, too-cool-for-its-own-good, just...wrong. I honestly can't believe these two places are owned by the same people. Like everything else at The Star, Cane Rosso just tries too hard. If Deep Ellum and Bishop Arts are organically cool, and The Shops at Legacy is a decent example of manufactured cool, then The Star is the illustrated example of how to spend a lot of money and completely fail to be cool. read more
