I really wanted to love this place, but I just cannot and here's why: Although I loved the conversation with the bartender, while awaiting my to-go order, I wasn't impressed with his black dyed fingernail color. This wasn't black polish, but whatever it was it looked scary, and not hygienic! The mushroom Alfredo pasta was just okay! The large oversized sliced portobello mushrooms thrown on top of the pasta just didn't present well, and not to mention that my salad had a piece of black hair in it...by the way my hair is blonde. When it comes to food, presentation is everything, even down to the person serving you your food and drinks. I know we live in a society where, sadly, it seems like anything goes, but I think restaurants need to maintain higher standards than a fast food place. I met a friend here for happy hour. This day I had a doctor's appointment, had to leave work early and didn't get to eat breakfast or lunch. I only had a few cashew nuts and some trail mix snacks from the office kitchen so I was starving when I arrived. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. It was empty when I arrived at 5pm so I was able to really look around. Our waiter was Ernest. He provided outstanding customer service and made up for some of the issues we had with the food. We started with the complimentary bread. There were some with red sauce and seasoning that were absolutely delicious. I loved that bread with the oil, cheese, and balsamic vinegar dressing. I decided to get the crab cakes. The crab cakes were ok but not good. They needed more seasoning. I know adding Cajun seasoning would have been perfect. They were also overcooked. The sauce they came with was ok, but add some Cajun seasoning and a dash of hot sauce and it would have been much better. I started with the raspberry martini. It was ok but not strong enough. I got the lemon martini next and it was perfect. Overall I think the drinks were good and the food is ok. My favorite hour is HAPPY HOUR! I decided to meet up with a fellow friend who is also an elite YELPER. Oh how I wanted to love Salute. It fell short for me and her. There were definitely some highs and lows. Let me give you the good, bad and ugly. Let me start with the GOOD! Happy Hour drink prices are great. The cocktails are half off. The welcome bread basket is scrumptious. I loved the Olive Oil, Parmesan Cheese and Balsamic mix for the bread. Ambiance 4 STARS It's a lovely restaurant space. I love the bar area. The dining room is simple, but chic and modern. Service 5 STARS Our waiter Ernest was AMAZING! He was very polite, polished and pleasant. He truly made the experience better with his outstanding customer service. Cocktails 4 STARS The lemon drop was delicious. I loved the presentation. The glass was sexy and the sugar rim with a piece of lemon was perfect. So the bad started with the food. The crab cakes were hard and dry. I will say that it was full of crab. We informed our waiter. He was very helpful with trying to resolve our dissatisfaction. The crab cakes reminded me of a biscuit. So these were about 2 STARS. Up next tried a small Caesar salad. Price and size were decent. The salad dressing wasn't that great. It was ok about 3 STARS. After the crab cakes and salad we really had enough disappointment. I wanted to give them one more chance. I decided I had to taste a pasta dish. I chose the Manicotti. Presentation was ok and the edible flower was cute. It was a NO for us. The pasta was lacking in flavor and Italian seasoning. I tasted salt though. Unfortunately I had to send it back. So overall it was an ok experience. There were good and bad moments. Nothing was ugly. Our waiter could tell we were not happy and offered to help make it right. I truly appreciated the owner/manager coming out to speak with us. He listened to our feedback and apologized for the situation. This made up for the lack of great food. He also offered us a free dessert. We declined, but it was a nice touch. This place is always poppin on the weekends for good reason. We know now to make a reservation even if it's an hour before our arrival. The food here is incredible! Vodka sauce, pesto, and Alfredo were all top tier. Our first time here, everything was great. The past couple times though, the service was definitely lacking. When dining in, another server had to pick up our server's slack because we hadn't been greeted, given water or had our appetizer order taken. When I came to pick up recently, there wasn't anyone at the host stand, and other employees who saw me come in just looked at me until I flagged someone down. For the price, I'd expect much better service, and it does make me hesitant to come back, despite how good the food is. read more

Inspired by a fellow Yelp Elite, I was excited to check out Salute and made reservations for a Saturday night. The service here is top-notch. The whole front of house team works well together, setting up tables, clearing them in a flash, seating diners and serving food. They are on it, even when it's busy. Definitely 5 star service. As for the food, there were some big hits and a couple of meh moments. We started with cocktails, an old-fashioned and a raspberry martini, and both were awesome. For apps, we split a Caesar salad and the buffalo calamari and both were easily our favorites. The calamari was crispy and cooked perfectly, and the buffalo sauce was great. For entrées, my date went with the chicken Parmesan and I had the chicken Sorentino. Here's when things dipped a little, the chicken on both dishes, needed seasoning, like where's the salt and pepper? The cheese and pasta sauce were great, but the chicken was so bland. I ordered the chicken picatta, it was decent, but nothing that stood out. Probably should have stuck to a pasta dish as that seems to be their specialty. Our server was good and attentive. Only other complaint I have is that they charged us a $8 dish splitting fee when they actually didn't split any dishes. They asked if we needed a dish split and we said no. This was our first visit to Salute, and overall, we had a very good experience. Our server was friendly--though he did jump straight into offering dessert when we had just sat down, which made us smile. We started with the bruschetta and calamari; both were good, though not especially memorable. We shared a nice bottle of Chianti while catching up with friends. For entrées, I ordered the Puttanesca with meatballs and loved it--the spice level was perfect for me, and the meatballs were excellent. My husband enjoyed his Pappardelle Bolognese, and our friends were equally pleased with their Rigatoni Arrabiata. All the portions were very generous - enough for leftovers the next day. There was a small hiccup with bread service--it arrived near the end of the meal after we had to request it again--but we didn't mind much since we were enjoying the evening. One small note: the overhead lights could use a good cleaning. Just a bit dusty, but noticeable. The small negatives were not enough to keep us away and we look forward to returning. read more

OK, I'm not sure how to start this, but my most recent visit was last evening. The place was almost completely dead, there couldn't have been 10 people in the entire restaurant when I got there. I sat at the bar and I got there close to the tail end of happy hour. After getting my food, I was pretty much ignored while the senior bartender was giving some advice to what appeared to be a new bartender. So needless to say, it was not a pleasant experience. The time before that, we waited forever on food while everybody else around us was getting theirs. The food is good, if you can get it. The manager was very apologetic and made it up to us by giving us a dessert. I would prefer that we have solid service and food over comps. To be fair, I'm not sure if it was the servers's fault but somehow our ticket didn't get put into the system. If you can get your food and you aren't ignored by the bartenders, it probably could be a pleasant experience, but my last two trips have made it impossible for me to go back. It really is a bummer because it's so close to our home and we do like the food. We had a reservation for 6:30- upon arrival I stood by the door patiently waiting until I could check in. It was busy busy busy. There isn't much space to wait but I tried to stay out of the way. I could tell the older woman with white hair was very overwhelmed so I stood back and waited until she addressed me- she started asking for peoples names and I slowly stepped in closer and said "hello, I made a reservation for 6:30" she then loudly proclaimed "everyone has a reservation" I was so embarrassed and felt like a Karen- but I shrunk back slowly- she seated a rude family that cut in front of us- and then seated another family that came in after us- we finally spoke to a very kind tall young man who seemed like a manager and he took care of us and apologized 100 times and offered us a dessert and checked on us so many times. The older woman did come by a few times, no apology but acted as if nothing happened- The young man was truly epic- I believe his name was Dave, Tall, dark hair, well dressed- super star. Our server was also five stars. Food was 10 stars! So good. Alfredo, calamari, eggplant Parmesan, bread with oil and herbs- so good! I went here with some friends on New Year's Eve for dinner. The place has a nice vibe inside and is located at the end corner of a shopping center. We shared some appetizers to start, Mozzarella Sticks $12.00 and Calamari $17.00. The mozzarella was good, not stick but more blocks. They were piping hot and had a big cheese pull, went well with their marinara. The calamari was also good, they used what seemed like a tempura type batter which was different but still good. For my entree I got the Chicken Parmesan $27.00. This came out and looked great, a big portion. My issue was with the plating which led to a downfall in food taste. While it looks nice to have the chicken parmesan on top of the spaghetti this caused the whole thing to be super soggy and not crispy at all. The top layer will almost always be somewhat soggy due to the marinara and cheese on top but to have the whole thing soggy was very disappointing. The spaghetti was also super bland (which is weird cause the marinara from the apps was flavorful) and the noodles were super overcooked which made them almost inedible to me. Our server did a great job though and I would have given 5 stars if my review was solely for service. He did the proper wine presentation and did the bottle tilt to avoid spillage. Service was terrible. We were seated on the patio and frequently forgotten. After ordering, On two occasions we were brought food that we did not order. We started with a wedge salad and were brought bruschetta. When the staff tried to dump the food and run we did not let them. After eventually getting our salad we waited an hour and twenty minutes for our entrees. We ordered the chicken marsala with vegetables and the Tereasa. We received a chicken piccata instead of the marsala. It was obvious that the kitchen was not prepared for dinner on a Friday as every table was upset about the lack of food coming out of the kitchen. Since it had been so long we decided to just eat what they bothered to give us. The piccata had only a hint of lemon, the chicken was not dry, but was completely unseasoned and tasteless. It looks like they poached or sous vide the chicken, as it was almost pure white with no marks from a fire or pan. The vegetables were well cooked. The 'vodka' sauce on the Tereasa was too creamy, it was not seasoned and did not have the flavor of reduced vodka at all. No spicy or tangy flavor as the cream overpowered the dish. Chicken again was not seasoned but due to the slice of melted cheese was passable. Pasta was cooked well but felt drowned. Had a lemon drop cocktail that was quite good and not overly sweet, definitely the highlight of the evening. I don't understand how this place has so many high ratings. MOST DINNERS WERE NOT ABLE TO BE MADE GF. I ultimately had salmon without the sauce which was basically baked salmon I could have made at home. They offered a gf lava cake the server gushed over....but it was simply a small disk of dense, gluey cake. NOT RUNNY CENTER which is literally what lava cake is. The prices are also quite reasonable for the food quality. I was torn between the pappardelle bolognese & Chicken Parmesan (since it was first time at this restaurant, I felt like it was a safe option), but when he mentioned the short rib special, I had to get it. It looked like tar... a thick balsamic glaze of some kind with mushrooms that you couldn't even see because they were drowning in tar sauce. The chicken was rubbery, you can tell it had not been floured or pan fried. The meatballs... spoiler alert, not homemade. If I could make it a zero I would. We went there with friends who said it was great. I'm on my 70's and have been to a lot of Italian restaurants and I hate to say it but Salute is absolutely the worst I've ever been to. If I was to tell you everything it'd be too long. The shrimp scampi was terrible, the shrimp were very small and way under cooked. The calamari was seriously disgusting. My wife and I couldn't eat it. We just stopped eating and took our food to go and threw it away when we got home. With the appetizer and an inexpensive bottle of wine with tip it was $132 bucks for two people. Wow! Finally a great Italian restaurant on the West side of Frisco. We've heard good things about it. But it took us 3 months to finally check it out. Chicken Piccata was delicious. Fresh capers, sauce was lemony over pasta, yum. Chicken Parm was huge. My son loved it. Lobsters ravioli was great. We even ordered a side of lobster and it tasted fantastic. We sat out on the patio on a cool Saturday night. Lots of tables, music, decent lighting. Service was great. Andreas was fantastic, made great recommendations and knows his stuff. Had the pleasure of dining in tonight and checking out this new italian spot near my neighborhood. We used to frequent the old greek restaurant that was here but they unfortunately shut down. The new italian place was very welcoming and pleasant. Tyler was our waiter and he was very accommodating! We ordered a little bit of everything and the quality of the dishes were excellent. Portions were very generous and just the right size for the price. I really hope this place stays and will be returning back in the future to try other dishes! This restaurant is a new one in a spot close to our home. We decided to try it out. We were promptly greeted and seated. We arrived at 4 pm (when they opened). The hostess said we could pick our table. Our waiter Tyler was professional, friendly, and helpful. He brought out house bread and provided olive oil and grated parmesan cheese. I had to request balsamic vinegar. We ordered red sangria ($12), which was delicious. We started with bruschetta ($13) and wedge salad ($13). For our meal we ordered Chicken Picata ($24) and Ravioli Al Italia w Sausage ($25). Bruschetta looked appetizing when it arrived. When I think of bruschetta, I want seasoned tomatoes, basil, great bread and any other twist, BUT that's the basics. It was good (7), but there was no basil! There were green leaves on the plate and dish, but it turned out to be spinach, huh? The seasoned tomatoes needed a little oomph. I got that when I put some of my balsamic vinegar and oil on the bruschetta. That made the taste very good (9)! Hubby liked the wedge salad. He said it didn't have the traditional blue cheese dressing, but an oil and vinegar one. It did have blue cheese though. He gave it an 8 rating. Chicken piccata arrived. Hubby said the sauce was really good, but the chicken was really overcooked (7.5). His side of penne pasta was standard, nothing special (6). My sausage ravioli dish was delicious. The flavor and seasoning was spot on. I think this was the best dish we had and I would order it again (8.5). After finishing our entrees our waiter, Tyler asked if we would like dessert. We were full but said we would like to see the menu. He said there was no menu. We had to get up and walk to a back of the restaurant where these was a little kiosk-like setup by the bar where you could order deserts like cake, cheesecake, and ice cream. We ordered cheesecake and red velvet cake to go. I don't even know how much the dessert was because I saw no pricing. BIG PROBLEM I SEE! I don't know how this getting up and walking to a kiosk is supposed to work when they have a full house. The place is not that big. Are people going to have to wait in line, in a "high-cost" restaurant, like they are ordering dessert at a Furr's cafeteria? What if there is someone with a disability who does not easily get up, or in a wheelchair, how is that going to work? They need to figure that out AND FAST! The next day when I went to eat my cake, imagine my disappointment that my red velvet cake ($12), although pretty, was just a sliver of a slice. Boy, was I pissed.
