My fiance and I wanted to go on a vacation, but we needed someone to watch our beloved pups, Petey and Maddie (Petey is the Padres loving Maltese and Maddie is a high energy lab mix ). So we called a couple of different highly reviewed dog sitting companies online and when I spoke to Toby, the owner at Canine Coast, I was instantly impressed by his professionalism, so I scheduled a "meet & greet" with him. Upon meeting Toby it was clear to me that he genuinely loves dogs and that they would be in good hands while we were gone... His house is clean and he has a nice big backyard for them to play in, so we arranged for him to watch them while we were gone. While we were gone he sent us daily pics with updates which made it that much easier for us to enjoy our vacation knowing that our fur babies were safe and having a good time! Everything went really smoothly with Toby and Canine Coast and in the future when we need someone to watch our dogs again he will be the one we call.

I recently discovered this day care for my dog, Zorro, and I'm glad I gave this place a shot. Toby, the owner, felt like a trustworthy person, who actually cares about the dogs. He took the time to have a thorough conversation with me about my dogs' needs and personality. I appreciated his willingness to tailor a care plan specifically for Zorro. His house is clean and organized, and the environment felt safe. There is a big clean yard with plenty of space for dogs to play and an awning for shade. Toby will send you update photos throughout the day, which is nice, and lets you know that he's actually taking your dogs on a walk. After multiple dog sittings, I can tell that he really does want to provide the best care possible. He is reliable and I definitely recommend this day care.

It's honestly getting difficult to find a reliable and trustworthy dog sitter and that can be a huge worry, but Toby put all our anxieties to rest. From the moment he met our Maltipoo Heidi at his house (she is 12 years old and super picky with food and with humans especially), my wife and I were quite shocked that Toby knew right away how to introduce himself to her and how to approach her. Toby wasn't just a sitter; he was a true companion for our furry little grandma Heidi (lol). He also asked us many important questions about her to make sure he can personalize his care. We also met Karine, Toby's wife, along with their two kids, I think their names were Naomi and Leon (?) Sorry if I got it wrong but you guys are such a cute family! The day that we dropped Heidi at their place, Toby told us that he has prepared some awesome welcoming organic peanut butter cookie treats for Heidi, very nice touch! I'd say your furry friend is in awesome hands with Toby and Canine Coast for 3 main reasons: - Exceptional Care: Toby went above and beyond to ensure our dog was happy and well-cared for. He followed all our instructions meticulously (Heidi only eats dry foods in the morning, and wet food at night), and also took her to do some nice and easy exercise routines (he has sent us photos of them at the park, and one time doing a live call with us). He even took the initiative to get a little tennis ball to play with her in their yard to keeping her entertained and loved. - Communication & Updates: Toby kept us updated throughout our 3-day trip with regular texts and adorable pictures of our dog's adventures in the park. His detailed reports allowed us to relax and enjoy our vacation knowing our precious grandma was in the best hands. (Especially because she was also recovering from a little internal infection on her belly and had some fever a few days prior). - Reliable & Trustworthy: Toby has always picked up the phone when we were away and was incredibly responsible, and communicated to us with the most respect. We never had a moment of doubt about our dog's safety and well-being in his care. Overall, Toby is an exceptional dog keeper, walking and dog boarding and we can't recommend him highly enough. He is not only professional and reliable but also genuinely passionate about life in general and the well-being of all beings. If you're looking for someone to trust the care for your furry family member with love and dedication, look no further than Toby! Heidi really liked him, and we are 100% bringing Heidi back to him again very soon! Bonus: If your dog has any special needs or anxieties, Toby is your guy! His calming personality and genuine attention to details put even the most nervous pups at ease.

We reached out to Canine Coast to board our dog, Ogie, when we went out of town. The owner, Toby, provided us with a free consultation and his questionnaire was by far the most detailed we have seen, showing his commitment to care. We received frequent updates and even had a chance to video chat with our dog, Ogie. We would highly recommend Canine Coast and will for sure be using them again.

BETTER OF THE PETSMARTS (4 stars)…read more Specially this location for Santa Photos for our pets... you can tell they put effort (unlike other PetSmarts). I've been to a handful of PetSmarts in San Diego area and I feel this location was the best thus far (obviously, La Jolla). Not going to lie, I'm more of a Petco shopper but when it comes to Santa Photos (Petco stopped doing them and they do have a better backdrop) - we resort to coming to PetSmart. The past couple years, I haven't been too ecstatic about Santa photos, even trying different locations. Why not try PetSmart in La Jolla?! 1) way better Santa and backdrop than all the other PetSmarts I've been too (there was thought into it) 2) they have little PetSmarts Xmas merch they gave away - little bandana and some treats while you wait in line (other PetSmarts gave absolutely nothing) 3) they placed the Santa photo area in a corner that was suitable that was special and clean and away from the traffic of customers (unlike other PetSmarts it's in the back of an isle) 4) weren't rushing you to get it over with. They were patient as dogs are scared of Santa and run away. Instead of crying screaming babies, it's whimpering dogs trying to run away from Santa. Big Santa was super nice and chill. Will mosdef be back to this location next year!

Now that I no longer live in my old place or in the area, I feel more comfortable writing this…read more Jeremy walked my dog for a few months after I moved to San Diego. He did a fine job, and I didn't have any major issues. My only issue in the beginning was that he told me AFTER our meet and greet that the time clock for walks starts when he walks into the building. I showed him the entrance closer to my place (which is right by the entrance), but he wasn't using that one at first. While I had wished that he communicated this during our meet and greet, I wasn't upset by it after we had established a steady routine. A few weeks/months after I settled into my new job, I had been granted the ability to work from home full time with a few occasional sporadic days in the office. I texted him to tell him that I won't need a walker after a certain date and explained that I'll be WFH. I even told him that I'd still like to reach out on days I'd have to be in-office. Later that day, he called to "ask" me what he did wrong. His tone was extremely confrontational and aggressive. I reiterated that I don't need a walker anymore because my situation had changed. He kept demanding an explanation. Honestly, I felt really put off by this. I had to tell him several times that it's because the situation had changed and it took multiple attempts to get him off the phone. He kept trying to push me because he didn't seem to believe me. Honestly, I don't care if he did. Before this conversation, I probably would have asked him to walk my dog on the days that I'd be in the office, but this made me so uncomfortable. Over the period of several months, he occasionally texted and/or called to ask me if we had any dog walking needs. I didn't answer, but eventually texted him to tell him that we did not. I understand his wanting a "reason" to try to improve. However, I gave him a reason. And even if I didn't, I don't necessarily owe him one to the point where he has to demand one repeatedly.
