Not worth it! Old, gross motel with rude staff. It felt like I was inconveniencing them by being there.

We enjoyed our stay at the Cannery Row Inn. We liked that it wasn't a large hotel, so we didn't have to deal with long check-in lines, long elevator waits, long hallways to get to our room nor did we have to deal with the typical hotel parking craziness. Hotel parking here was easy, uncrowded, and FREE. It's a quaint hotel located walking distance to some main Monterey attractions - Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey Bay Aquarium. There's also a great running path a few steps behind the hotel. Close driving distance to 17-mile Drive too. Our room was clean and equipped with a flatscreen TV, a good-sized mini fridge with a freezer, a microwave, an easy-start fireplace (just one on/off switch), easy to use thermostat (one knob to adjust the temp just right), hair dryer, fan, and, iron & ironing board. They also offered organic shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, and organic coffee. Our stay included a nice, complimentary Continental breakfast. Nothing fancy, but it was a good price for all that this hotel has to offer - great location, nice amenities, free parking, and friendly staff. read more

Quaint-enough bayside inn in Cannery Row area of Monterey. Room had a bay view and fireplace, hence the reason I booked it. What it also had was a screaming baby in the next room. When the baby didn't stop fussing for over an hour, I decided to ask for another room. On a very quiet Weds night (there were about 12 cars in the parking lot), the front desk gave me resistance when I asked to be moved to a different room. Me: There's a pretty disgrunted baby in the room next to me - would be it OK to move to a different room - the view and the rate are irrelevant - just something quieter. FD: "Pretty disgruntled," huh? Well... Did you use the toilet or the bed? Me: *puzzled look* - I washed my hands in the sink and put my suitcase on the bed. And I'll take my water bottle out of the garbage. FD: Well, I have to pay the cleaning people per room cleaned, so... Me: Oh, I see. Well, I don't want to be any trouble... Sheesh - for $174/night, I should be able to request a different room (when there is one available) without getting guff about how much it's going to cost to clean the room I decided to wash my hands in. I was going to raise more of a stink, but felt that would have just "put out" the front desk more than would have been necessary. After all, the Little League World Series was on TV, and there were important games of solitaire to be completed on the front desk laptop. I slept OK in a comfortable bed, and thought the charm of barking sea lions was pretty cool, which is why there are 2 stars here instead of one. But with several other nicer hotels nearby, don't stay. read more

I should've just went with my instincts and stayed at a random Motel 6. I can say that there were no bedbugs in my room. That's about all I can say. I guess it will do as long as you don't have expectations of things like coffee in the coffee pot at breakfast... Or waffles on the waffle tray... Or an extra pillow to exist within the facility... Location of the hotel is great. Was able to walk to the majority of locations. Room was clean when we arrived. Minimal noise during the night. Wi-Fi cuts in and out at times. No air conditioning system in room which causes it to get stuffy at times. read more

I'm not sure what all the complaints are about, I absolutely love this place! Location is absolutely perfect! We had a room on the second floor, nice king bed, fireplace, balcony with an ocean view! And updated bathroom. No air-conditioning needed, as there was always a nice cool ocean breeze coming through the sliding glass door. Room comes with a nice oscillating fan also. I couldn't be happier! Also seemed very clean! Would definitely stay here again! Staff was nice. A big thank you to Myra for her helpfulness and accommodating us with such an awesome room! BEWARE. I booked directly through the hotel's website and stayed here for one night. A few weeks later, I got another 2 charges on the same credit card I used to books my stay - one for shops in Gilroy and one for the Cannery Row Inn. I was out of the country, and luckily my credit card company denied the charges and alerted me of the fraud. I'm not sure who got my information, but it seems odd that the charges were back at the hotel. Makes me believe that my information was compromised at some point related to that stay (I live in Oakland). I thought the room was decent. Not quite an ocean view (partial = can be seem from the balcony over another building), but it did the job and was comfortable. I left the sliding door open to keep the room cool at night. It was in a nice location, walking distance to the aquarium / Cannery Row and also the restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf. I'd stay there again if I trusted its online security; but sadly that has been broken. read more

Had my first stay at this modest, clean, quiet motel: it was for one night, mid-week, reservation made 5 days ahead of time. When I called to confirm, they offered a free room upgrade, which I accepted. My room was nicely equipped with one very comfortable king bed, a wall-mounted TV, small microwave and fridge, and a gas fireplace. Although there was a working wall heater, the fireplace was more than adequate to warm the room quickly. The bathroom was quite large and had sturdy grab bars in all the right places. The Cannery Row Inn is a block from the beach, and has a large, shared deck on the main floor. By "shared" I mean that several rooms, including mine, give directly onto the deck. My visit was in mid-December, so no one was using it, but it's easy to imagine a glorious summer morning having complimentary coffee and juice and admiring the view. My only minus was the complimentary breakfast, which was very heavy on carbs, but included virtually no protein. That said, the pastries, fruit, milk, and juices looked fresh and appetizing. The coffee was fine, too. I'll stay with them again. P.S. The Inn has ample free, off-street parking. read more

I paid $360 for a room with no air conditioning. I called the front desk to ask about it, but nobody answered so I had to walk up there. Nobody answered because the front desk girl was smoking a cigarette on her cell phone out front. She told me there is no AC in the rooms, but the is a fan that you can plug in. I recently went on a spontaneous short two-day mini vacay with my boyfriend to monterey! We decided to stay here because of the many times I stayed here before growing up and going on family vacations to monterey. I booked a room through booking.com and to my mistake, I booked a room with two queen sized beds...and because it was just my boyfriend and I..that was awkward. When I realized my mistake, I immediately called the hotel telling them what happened and the girl on the phone said they could just upgrade us to an ocean view room with a king size for the same price. I was sooo happy it wasnt going to be a huge ordeal and happily took the offer. We got there around 7:30 pm, checked in and got to our room. It was clean, spacious, the bed was super comfy (and I'm EXTREMELY picky about my pillows) and there was a fireplace! We had no idea but were super stoked about it! We also loved the little balcony and actually sat out there a few times to play checkers. Their continental breakfast wasn't anything huge, but was perfect for a small bite before walking down to the aquarium. It's right across the street from the beach and is a pleasant walking distance cannery row. Great price for the room and location! We will definitely be back! read more

GREAT place to stay! Location - perfect. Right in the middle of everything - steps to the bay, fun restaurants, touristy souvenir shops, etc. SUPER comfortable beds and soft sheets. Gas fireplace that's easy to use. Clean. Giant shower head, and good water pressure. I didn't care for their toiletries...you may want to bring your own. We got lucky with vaulted ceilings - a definite plus. Free, easy, convenient parking. I'll definitely come back to this place next time I'm in the area! read more

This is a pretty old hotel and it shows, lots of wear and tear. For the price I was expecting a little better. It's definitely time for a remodel. This place is aka Cannery Row Inn. Go figure they stuck with that instead of Quality Inn, because "quality " is an overstatement.... we first arrived in their tiny office. Check-in was fine, but as soon as she gave us our key and made us carry with us a basket of: corn nuts, ritz pb sandwiches & some other misc snack + 2 bottles of water...that should've been the warning sign to get out of there. What kind of establishment has the guest bring it up to their room?? Shouldn't this stuff already be inside the rooms upon arrival? Anyway, that was the beginning of it... We reserved for a beach front view, what we got was a street view. They gave us a new room, but the view was far from the beach...it was a combination of [street+beach in the distance]. Btw, the pictures are deceiving! So to make this short...here's more of the bad: 1. room smelled like fresh paint 2. no remote for tv 3. shower water temperature inconsistent. twice, it pumped out scolding hot water for half a second, then return back to its norm. temp 4. holes in their linens 5. curtain on the sliding door only covered 3/4, the other 1/4 was a sheer white curtain that did not block out any sunlight 6. doors banging, upstairs people making runkus.... Totally decent place to stay. It's within walking distance to the aquarium, maybe a block or two from the water. The outside isn't much to look at, but the room I had was comfortable. Highlights: A bed so cozy I could fall right alseep and stay asleep. The sliding glass door opened to a patio at street level, but I had no issue with noise. The room had a fridge, microwave, hair dryer, and tv. The staff was sweet and pleasant. Free breakfast. Minus one star for every single towel having long hairs on them. The Cannery Row Inn is nothing more than a conveniently positioned DUMP in an otherwise beautiful local. My wife and I stayed here for a four day, three night business/pleasure trip. Soon after arriving, we stepped out of the car into the basement parking lot and found ourselves surrounded by a swarm of flies. After making our way up to the lobby we stopped in at the front desk. We had arrived a little early and asked the receptionist if we could check in early; she gave us both a dirty look and responded with a snide mumble, and went back to fumbling with her Twitter. Once we made it up to our room it was blazing hot and stuffy, with no air conditioner, and smelled like an odd combination of fish and vitamins. I then opened the sliding glass door and was serenaded by a cacophony of delivery trucks, motorcycles, and cruisers with impressively loud sub-woofers. Of course our room faced the street, and at $135 a night I guess that was a bargain. The walls are paper thin; the decor on par with Motel Six. The walls are stark white with an inordinately small picture above the bed. The toilet was built for a small child as was the height of the shower head. I had to do a little ironing, and the ironing board was a table top style with brown stains, very classy. The internet connection continuously booted me off after about ten minutes of use. And did I mention the loud sound of traffic that continues on late into the night? If at all possible, avoid this underwhelming, over-priced, hole-in-the wall -- or at least until they invest in some double pained windows and a touch of class. read more

Don't be fooled by the name, this is a MOTEL. For the price and location it is a decent place to stay. Would i recommend it? Probably not. It was clean, bed was comfy and they provided a continental breakfast in the morning from 7am-10am. Perks were the fireplace, fridge, microwave in the room and the nice view from the balcony. They definately need to update some things! I mentioned to the front desk that 3 of the 4 lights were burned out in the bathroom but he didn't seem too intereseted. So did they get changed while I was there? Nope, I was pretty much in the dark the whole weekend. I'm sure there are nicer facilities in the area around the same price. read more

Location is good walking to wharf and cannery row. Room was quiet, clean, large, small balcony.....fireplace a nice touch. Price and location got it the fourth star. Not fancy but very good value. Old school tv but microwave and fridge were used more anyway. Nice to have them when surrounded by so many great restuarants! Very clean and staff was friendly. Basic continental breakfast items. They let us leave the car there for the next day as we went to the aquarium. Saved a few bucks parking and the walk is short right down the rails to trails at the back of the hotel. Parking a little tricky on arrival...lot is in rear so either pass hotel and come back around block look for entrance just after the rails to trails, or turn on cross street just before hotel and then a quick left into the lot...seemed like an alley but was their lot. read more

Cannery Row's trimmings are more contemporary than its mammalian-dubbed counterpart: simplistic, neutral textiles, spare walls and tasteful sage linens, a gas fireplace and a balcony that provides a gorgeous view of the Monterey peninsula. 12/ 1/12 I have absolutely no complaints about this place. My fiance and I went on a weekend getaway and ended up here. I checked the other hotels and prices ranging from 150+. I went in to check if there was vacancy and a friendly young lady (wish I remembered her name) greeted me and told me they had one king bedroom available and for under $100 and to top it off it came with a view!!! I booked it right away and the lady at the desk gave us a bottle of chardonnay and two glasses and that put a big smile on my face. We then proceeded to our room, it was clean, spacious, modern,included a fridge, microwave and a chimney to stay cozy. Opened the sliding and the view on the balcony was beautiful. The service upon checking in was courteous, friendly and provided us with everything we needed and more. We sat out on the balcony to enjoy the view while drinking our bottle of wine. 12/8/12 We returned again since we fell in love with our little "love nest". This time I booked in advance and booked the room for the same price. Again upon check-in the same lady was at the front desk which of course remembered us from the previous weekend. We told her how we liked the place so much, the area and the service we received from her and the Cannery Row Inn. Before leaving to our room, the lady gave us again a bottle of chardonnay and two glasses compliments of the hotel. I love this place. We never wake up early for breakfast so I cant review about it. Overall I recommend this hotel because of its service, cleanliness, no loud neighbors or people in the hallway and the excellent service we received from the wonderful young lady!!! read more

I'm giving the Cannery Row Inn an "average" rating because that's what the hotel is... and so long as you know that going in, it's great! It's a bit outdated, no real views (maybe a sliver of water from a few rooms) and be warned, is noisy. At first we had a room on Foam Street which was so trafficky and loud, but then moved to something in the back. While much quieter, the birds squawk something fierce in the early morning! But if you want a clean place to stay that's central to everything, walking distance to all of the sites / restaurants, a great value, and provides free parking and WIFI, then look no further! Also when we stayed in May, they didn't require a minimum 2-night stay like many of the other hotels in the area (great for those just looking for a quick weekend away). read more

The start of our stay was bad and stayed that way. The way they listed on the online service we booked a king with a cot. The day before our stay was to start we got a call where they TOLD us we would get two queens. They can't do a king with a cot because the fire marshal will not be ok with that. They should not list that way or should have called a few weeks before. But this way they had a captive audience. The whole place had a chronic level of griminess. Our first room could not be opened as the lock had run out of batteries. Our second room, had refrigerator turned off and we did not know until the food went bad. The hotel told us that they do that in every room, I guess we were just supposed to psychically know this. The wall had holes where pictures were removed and never repainted. A piece of molding had fallen down and not been replaced. The room lighting was a bit dim. We will not be returning. I think there is better value elsewhere. The whole attitude is that the booking service had things wrong or that we should know better. They did not once step up to take responsibility and try to ensure that we had a positive experience. read more

I don't know why someone said this is part of the Quality Inn line, because I do not believe it is. Anyways, this hotel was great! We got a king room with a fireplace and a partial ocean view. The bed was very comfortable and clean. As soon as we walked in, we loved the vaulted ceilings and the decor was quaint. The bathroom/shower was tiled which was a nice touch, usually you just get a white shower install. The only downside is that the office had run out of hot coco for breakfast, but the rest of the spread was nice. The fruit was fresh and the pastries were soft and moist. Another plus of the room is that we had a mini fridge AND a small microwave so we didn't have to waste any leftovers! Also, another yelper mentioned that they give you a "welcome basket", on our visit they did not do this. Not a downside, just an observation. The location was awesome! We were literally at the end of Cannery Row, opposite the Aquarium. It was nice because we could walk down the row on one side, and back on the other side so we didn't miss a thing. We were within a 15 minute walk the Old Fisherman's Wharf, a 3-5 minute walk to the beach, and a 8-10 minute walk to the main strip of Cannery Row. We had been driving for hours and were tired, checked all the usual website for hotels deals. I stumbled across the Cannery Row Inn so I decided to call the hotel directly, spoke to the night manager Kamilla, she so helpful and pleasant . First she offered me amazing rate and the she said I could check out the room before she charged me for it (i know amazing). We are arrived in the evening and I could really get a lay of the land, in morning when I awoke and made my way down to the free continental breakfast I realized how close to the ocean we were (some rooms have water views). Free parking and WIFI for all guest The hotel room was clean and spacious and very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this to anyone looking for an amazing deal and comfortable room. read more

A few pointers to improve the quality of this Inn. Front lobby - the water dispenser was out of water. Lack of attention to detail. Continental breakfast 3 stars - banana was fresh on first day, 2nd day has brown spots best for banana bread. Hopefully, the other fresh fruit that was served each day are not recycled the following day, to avoid food-borne illnesses. The English muffin was crunchy and tasty. Carpeting no star, upgrading the floor might improve the old musty smell of an old motel. Security - they have installed cameras in hallways. The side doors were open and easily accessed without keys from the street, No air-conditioning. It is scary to open the sliding door near the streets to let the sea breeze in. I can't believe I've never reviewed Cannery Row Inn. Our family has been coming here for 30 years. Our usual place was booked this weekend, so we decided to return. Wanted an ocean view so asked for room 220. Wasn't available so we settled for 218, next door. We were warned by check in that a new builing was being constructed across the street and although the noise would be minimal, a large portion of the view is now blocked. Almost bailed at that point but decided to roll the dice. Check in was easy and we proceed to our room. Yep, a chunk that formally looked out over the bay now houses a new building. The actually building is done, so the only (slight) noise we heard was hammering inside. Even though it's a bummer that it's there, we still were able to enjoy a nice side view of the bay. For the price ($139 per night) it was a steal. Fireplace is a nice touch although we didn't use it. True, there is no AC, but we were pleasantly surprised to find a nice oscillating fan in the closet. I love that it overlooks the bike/walking trail. Wi Fi was zippy and never failed us both nights we were there. Didn't sample the breakfast. The place was clean and well maintained. Was a bit surprised after reading a few recent reviews. I would say that if u need a place to stay near Cannery Row and can't afford the prices of he high end hotels facing the ocean, this might suffice. Though I do think during peak season, this hotel charges up to 350$. The decor is simple and the room is quite small. I stayed in king w/fireplace (gas). U could tell that hotel is older but the room was relatively clean. It was quite dark and the small balcony is standing room only. If u don't plan on staying in the hotel much, it isn't a bad place to lay your head though the pillows were rather hard and the bed a tad lumpy; it wasn't so uncomfortable as to impede my sleep though. It is an older hotel and has no special amenities except the coffee and tea served in the morning in the teeny, tiny lobby. The gals at the front desk were sweet and friendly but not professional by any means. I probably would not stay here again. I am a gal who likes to alternate outdoor excursions with reading, binge watching Netflix and the like inmu hotel. So for those days during my vacation when I choose to hang in my hotel room, I need a nice view, a nice tub, a huge tv and a huge bed with lots of fluffy pillows and comforters. read more

Behind the parking lot is a bike/pedestrian path that leads you to Cannery Row (3 minute walk) and Old Fisherman's Wharf (10 minute walk). Across the street is San Carlos Beach park where people walk their dogs or just sit and enjoy the bay view. Coffee addicts can walk across the street to the Monterey Plaza and Spa Hotel where they have an outdoor patio cafe. MINUS 1 STAR BECAUSE: * That Asian girl at the front desk wasn't courteous; no smile no eye contact no "thank you". The guy that worked in the morning was friendly though. * Weak showerhead * Loud buzzing noise from refrigerator (maybe just my room), noise from people's rolling luggage in the hallway, sea gulls screams at night. read more

Where's the negative star button when you need it?? My husband and I were thinking of taking a last minute weekend trip to Monterey and we just so happened to pick the weekend of the Pebble Beach car show. EVERYplace we wanted to stay was sold out. I call the Inn and ask if they have a room for Friday night, they did. I went through the routine of reserving a room and when I got to the end the gentleman told me that the room was not cancel-able. I have NEVER heard of a hotel that won't let you cancel a room with 24 hour notice so I told him NOT to put in the reservation. I asked him if he could HOLD it for me for 10 minutes and that I was going to call my husband to make sure we wanted to stay here. I told him SPECIFICALLY that I would call back if I wanted to reserve the room. I needed to look up photos too to be sure we were not staying in a total dump. Well, apparently he put in the reservation. I get a call Friday confirming that we were coming. I call the hotel and get some guy who totally needs a lesson in customer service. I very nicely told him I did not make a reservation and that the guy I spoke to mistakenly put in the reservation. He said, well there's a reservation here and you cannot cancel it. He said that he'd ask a manager and call me back. One hour goes by, no call so I call him. He tells me that the manager will have to talk to me tomorrow and for me to call tomorrow. I did, no luck. Manager (Shiv) still does not return my call. I go through this for TWO weeks trying to get someone to call me back that will credit my card back. FINALLY Shiv, the manager calls me back and says (no joke) "so you want to reserve a room??" WTF? NO I don't want to reserve a room I want my money back from you charging my card without permission. He told me that he'd have to speak with his clerk that took the reservation. I told him that that was pointless, I DID not make the reservation and just because your clerk put it in I now have a $500 bill on my card. He promised to call me back the following day. Well, here we are almost 2 weeks later and I am still waiting for the call!!! Wow I can only imagine the amazing service this hotel offers in person! I now had to file a dispute with my card company as this helpful staff has done nothing but created an issue out of something that she screwed up! Fun, I say don't stay here. read more

Good price. Nice place right by the water. Not super fancy and the rooms aren't that big, but the fireplace was really nice and everything was very cozy. Gotta love the free breakfast, too. Had tons of the pineapple. lol Heard weird bird noises in our hall in the morning - sounded like some kind of exotic birds got in and were fighting. My girl and I love animals, so we just thought it was funny. But be aware of your potential visitors! My wife & I stayed here on our 2nd night of a week long trek up the coast back in mid April. Ideally located right behind the harbor, & a block or so from the action on Cannery Row. The hotel seemed to me, to be more like a converted apartment building, into a hotel, from the layout of the parking lot, hall ways, etc. Just a little cramped in some areas. The room itself was modest, & pretty basic. Decor is a little outdated, formica wood, tube T.V., and our patio was right next to the lobby with the contental breakfast, but it added some convience, and being a small hotel, the noise didn't wake us up either. We only stayed one night, and while not 4 star, it did it's job. Again, the most endearing quality was the location, which is great if your intention is to hit cannery row, and the pier, which was ours. read more

My wife and I were sent here as a gift for our 5th year anniversary. Since we're big Monterey fans, it was perfect. The hotel is very easy to find and parking seemed to be ample. Unfortunately, the front desk clerk was a little rude and not very friendly. Although the room seemed a little outdated, it was very clean. As a fan of the TV show, "Hotel Impossible", I knew what to look for and the room passed. The bathroom was clean and it had the correct bed cover. The fireplace was a nice touch but I wouldn't pay extra for it. Basically it's a propane flame hidden behind a fake log. Turning the switch on made the flame a little bigger. It looked nothing like a fire. Even turned off, the pilot light lit up the room at night enough to be annoying. The balcony was nice and comfortable and ours overlooked the ocean a little. To my surprise, the room had a DVD player but unfortunately I couldn't figure out to use it. I even called down to the front desk for help but the same front desk clerk from before was useless. Instructions would have been nice. The breakfast the next morning was adequate. My wife brought back coffee, OJ, muffins, and was even able to get me piece of a waffle. It was enough where we didn't end going out to eat. Would I go back? Probably not. For $160 a night plus tax it was just OK. I would rather spend another $30-$40 and get something a little nicer and more modern. As for dinner, we went to the Monterey Fish House and it was delicious! I was really impressed by this place because the rooms were clean, there was a balcony, and the bathrooms looked quite fancy. However, sleeping at night was a nightmare. It was so HOT. My son and I stayed just one night (Saturday night) for a weekend getaway. Chose Cannery Row Inn solely because of location, because parking is a pain in the area. My son uses a mobility scooter so elevator access was important to us. * Great location; we walked/scooted to the Aquarium and Cannery Row on well-lighted path. Felt safe. * Room was spacious; enough floor space to park the scooter. * Inn sorely needs an update. It stopped being "quaint" about 15 years ago. Now it's just old. * That said, the bathroom and the bed linens were clean. Carpets in hotels are always dicey and this one was no different. * Air conditioning was LOUD. And ask for a room off of Foam Street. Traffic noise. * Front desk staff was wonderful. We arrived before check in and she gave us a parking pass so we could leave our car. Didn't have interactions with any other staff, so no opinions there. * Really pricey for what it was, and the City of Monterey fees add a hefty percentage. * Wi-fi worked well.
