I hadn't been to Cantina Laredo since the 90's, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was nice inside, though parking was a pain in the butt, even right before they closed. I'm guessing there's a lot on the other side of the restaurant because surely they can't share that tiny lot with Cat Tattoo and Floyd's and not have a back-up lot. Anyway, the service was good. We showed up about 30-45 minutes before close... which I hate to do. But the boyfriend and his friend had been out riding the bikes and I was starving. They suggested Cantina Laredo, so we went. The server was super gracious about us coming in so late (mercifully, we weren't the only ones there). Next time, I might try their guacamole. The table next to us had some made fresh at their table and it looked good. I liked the chips, and the salsa was alright: it was warm (temperature), smoky, and not overly hot (spice). Boyfriend and I got the enchiladas: he got some special veggie enchilada which was adorned with all sorts of stuff on top. I got cheese enchiladas. Boyfriend liked his, but had to push a lot of the extraneous stuff off to the side. Mine were "meh" at best. And for over $10 for 2 cheese enchiladas, rice, and beans, I expect more than "meh". The cheese inside didn't taste melted all the way, and there were no onions anywhere. We ordered a bowl of queso for the table. It was a decent portion, but again: spendy for what you get. The queso is NOT vegetarian, according to the menu, so just a head's up. It's got a decent smoky flavor and didn't congeal too much as we worked on it. Boyfriend's friend M got steak fajitas. He worried about being That Guy that ordered fajitas right before they closed, but the waiter reassured him that everything was A-Ok and not to worry about ordering them. Refills were prompt, service was attentive without being hovery, and they never made us feel unwelcome for coming in so late. The service alone is what bumps this review from a 2-star up to a 3-star. I have visited this location in Addison several times and have always been pleased with both the food and the service. CL is a solid mini-chain for Tex-Mex. My wife loves their table-side made guacamole and all of the entrees I have tried have been good. CL used to be one of "the" places to go but more and more upscale Tex-Mex restaurants are opening nearby and it seems to have made a dent in their business. Purely anecdotal observation and I am just basing that on the fact that my more recent visits have seen a floor that is slightly less busy than in the past. For me, that's fine. I am not a fan of waiting 30 minutes to get an enchilada. On the rare chance that I am convinced to wait, the experience had better be a darn good one because, regardless of the restaurant, every minute that I have to stand with a little flashy light vibrating thingy just inches the bar that much higher... read more

Marginal, at best. The house margaritas definitely have what seems to be a hint of dishwater and aren't very satisfying, so if you're looking for a good 'rita, go above house-level. I really like the queso, even though it's nothing particularly special. It's nice and creamy, has a decent amount of onion and pepper flavors, and goes nicely with the chips. The enchiladas are average, with the veggie varieties being a tad better than the meaty ones. The mole sauce is almost downright awful - too heavy on the cinnamon, which makes it weirdly suggest a dessert, even though it's on your dinner plate with chicken. The patio out front is a little random, but has fans and is in the shade for the all-important post-work timeframe, so it's quite pleasant. I'm usually not a fan of margaritas in general. They're usually weak or have way too much sweet & sour leading to hours of heartburn and regret. With that being said, I specifically come to Cantina Laredo for the frozen Casita 'Rita!! They are huge, pretty strong and have a great tequila and lime taste instead of watered down sugary sweet & sour. $3 at happy hour ain't so shabby either. I only come here for drinks and appetizers. The apps I've had are pretty solid. The chips and queso are pretty good. I also like the tableside made guacamole. The only other app I've had is the mini flautas. They were pretty standard. If you order apps in the bar during happy hour they're discounted as well. Bar service is fast and friendly. read more

We took Mom here for Mother's day brunch. They have a brunch menu every weekend. Today it was super busy because of the holiday. Yet, seating was fast, so were our drinks, tableside guacamole and our delicious meal. The staff was really pulling together to make the day a success for all the Mom's and it showed - from the greeting at the door with a Rose for the Mothers, to the special strawberry dessert to finish. This is also a great place for seafood, which is my Mom's favorite! We've been coming here for years- it's consistently fantastic and never disappoints! Classy Cantina that is never as crowded as Chuy's, with better food than you might expect. I ordered the Carnitas tacos and was thoroughly pleased with the presentation, flavors and tenderness. A friend and I ate at Cantina Laredo yesterday for the second time in two months, and again, everything was perfect! We ate outside on the patio, which is very nicely shaded with large umbrellas but you can also eat inside. The chips were so fresh and crispy and we love the salsa! My friend has the salmon lunch entree and she loved it, although I wasn't sure about it; it came with a very bright green sauce on it which I would have needed on the side. I had two fish tacos and I loved the pineapple salsa that came with it. Our wonderful waiter, Fernando, kept replenishing our teas and water; not just filling our glasses but bringing us a fresh glass with ice! When he asked if we wanted dessert, I said, I WISH you still had Flan; it wasn't on the menu! But hold on - they do have FLAN!!! I don't know why it's not on the menu because it is so delicious! So creamy! Be sure to ask for it, if you love something light for dessert! And a special thanks to Fernando for the best service; my friend could only eat half of her salmon, being the tiny little person that she is, and Fernando added in a bag of chips and container of salsa that she could enjoy with her leftovers. This place has been one of my favorites for years and years. It was always pricey compared to On The Border down the street. (This was in the late 80s, Early 90's). But it was really, really good, from the chips and Salsa to the Fajitas! Loved it. Now just as On The Border hit the wall, Cantina Laredo is squished right next to it. Went Tuesday at 2 with a friend this time, only one table in the place. Had to wait for someone to come seat us, we had passed by an employee on his phone outside I figured this was who we were waiting for. After being seated we again had to wait an inappropriate amount of time for a waiter to show up, given the fact we were in an empty restaurant. The Chips and Salsa finally arrived with a waiter attached to them. The Chips and Salsa were killer as always, with the cold and warm salsa options and the crispy warm chips. We munched as we perused the menu. Both of us went for the: ENCHILADA VERACRUZ Stuffed with chicken, spinach and monterey jack cheese topped with tomatillo sauce, vinaigrette marinated vegetables, and cotija cheese 9.29 First of all, the enchilada (only one of them, one for 9.29?) was covered with raw cabbage and chip strips, this was not mentioned on the menu and they completely conflicted with the flavor of the tomatillo sauce. Secondly, the "vinaigrette marinated vegetables" were a bunch of shockingly overcooked, poorly prepped (one piece of zucchini was 2 inches long with 4 cuts in it that did not go all the way through so the middle was raw and the outside was wilted and overcooked), bland sub par vegetables with no vinaigrette flavor whatsoever. Third on the side was the plainest, banal rice I have ever tasted, it reminded me of the Uncle Ben's microwave pouches (it probably was). We both scraped off the crap on top of the enchillada and found it edible. Had the chicken been dry we would have both sent it back, but it was not that bad. We both left the rice and "Veggies" on the plate, the waiter did not ask how anything was or why we did not eat hardly anything on our plates. That is where CL has sunk to, I won't be back. I have had better Mexican food for sure, but this place isn't bad. It is on the pricer side for mexican food at about $15 a plate and $12 for a drink. I prefer not to drink here as all of the margaritas seem to taste the same and they are just mediocre. The top shelf guacamole is a little heavy on the lime, so the texture is a little off target. The fajitas are pretty awesome, but the flour tortillas taste like they come from a bag instead of freshly prepared which is slightly disappointing when you are paying more to eat here. The chips are light and crisp and the salsa is served warm and has a lot of heat as far as flavor goes. The carnitas are tasty. The staff is top notch and this is a low lit, trendy sort of place. The decor is a little strange having a modern feels with buffalo heads on the wall...not really Mexican or modern. LOL. Overall, I would eat here again, but I definitely have better choices for the area. read more

OK, it is time to face the fact that Facebook can not improve a restaurant. Tonight I took up Cantina Laredo Facebook offer by going over to their Addison store to have 1/2 Price Fajitas for Two..Great deal and it was a great priced meal. But you can't have great Fajitas without a great Margaretta for which we were totally disappointed. We order the only Margaretta they had on the Happy Hour list since the Top Shelf drinks were way over priced which did not make us Happy. They put far too much triple sec and lemon and not good tequila in the one we ordered for half price...now we know why they were half price adn the BAR was empty. Then top that off with a large platter of combo fajitas that were overly warm at best arrived without the sizzle...what is up with fajitas that are not sizzling?. Taste and quantity was good and was what got them the three stars. We hoped that the second Margaretta would improve but NOOOOO!..by the time we got the second round we were ready to go. So, we'll stay away from the Facebook deals for Cantina Laredo for now and watch to see if something happens to change our minds..what..I have no idea what that would be. read more

So pleased with this location! New favorite Mexican food place for my family. I brought my mom for her birthday dinner with my 6 year old and 5 month old daughters. Now I know as a waiter that it is never fun to get a table full of kids, but Juan never made a face, never rolled his eyes...like I have seen from other waiters but let's not go there....no; he instead promptly helped with the baby carrier sling, brought out our waters immediately, and took excellent care of us. Our drinks arrived quickly, our guacamole was excellent (honestly don't understand the previous complaint, it was pitch perfect), and the food...oh so good. I had the fish special, flounder, and it was amazing. I won the award for the best order. My mom's shrimp enchiladas were a very close second. Brought home an order of the beef chili relleno for my husband and he was similarly impressed. In Addison there is no shortage of good Mexican food restaurants, however there is a shortage of good service, IMO, if you are a family and not a group of drinking single folks (you don't realize the difference in service until you have hauled a couple of kids with you to a restaurant...trust me). This was a great experience. The guacamole is made to order at your table which is a nice touch. It is not the best guacamole I've had, but its worth it. I had a flank steak topped with bacon wrapped shrimp, the steak was cooked perfect at medium rare despite its thin cut. The bacon wrapped shrimp were amazing and I even ordered 6 more. The service was stellar. I sent the Ceviche back because the potency of the lime was too much for me. The finale for the meal was definitely the apple pie on a sizzling skillet with brandy butter and vanilla ice cream. The best apple pie I've ever eaten, I say that without hesitation despite the fact that this is a Mexican restaurant. Salsa was warm -- not what I typically dig, but it worked. Ordered chicken nachos -- large serving, nice plating/presentation, but lacked flavor. Loaded with cheese (bonus) but the beans lacked flavor (tear) and the chicken was ok. Margarita, rocks, salt -- good drink. 3 stars? Wow - what a meal! Stopped in on my first trip to the Dallas area with friends and two of us had the Crispy Carnitas Bowl; it was delicious! The carnitas was expertly charred and complemented the other flavors, including the Chipotle Wine Sauce that another reviewer raced about. I'll be thinking about this place for a long time. Our server was very friendly but seemed to forget us on the patio from time to time. Not a big problem but something to consider if you are short on time. The only thing that prevented a fifth star. Came here for Cinco de Mayo with my husband. Arrived around 1:45. We noticed they had numerous OPEN tables on the patio. It was a beautiful day so we asked the host for a patio table which she responded with "Those are reserved".....so we sat inside. Our waiter was very nice with lots of energy. The VERY FIRST thing I asked was "Are there any Cinco de Mayo drink Specials?" He stated there were not. So we each ordered a house marg on the rocks no salt. Not even 5 minutes went by and several other random sets and groups of people came in and were seated on the patio upon requesting it and obviously they were not all together. We know this because we were sitting close enough to the hostess stand. What the F? So needless to say we were a bit annoyed and pissed. Not only where we not able to sit outside but then we were seated next to a table with two very small children, one of which would not stop screaming and crying. We were trying to have a nice Saturday and we're already having a hard enough time without this disturbance next to us so we kindly asked our server if it would be a problem if we move to a table away from this table to which he had no issue with and we moved tables. We ordered an appetizer and each ordered an entree and one more drink a piece and everything was good. We were just really bothered by the fact that when we left, there were clearly people who came in after us and we're sitting outside that were not in a group or at a reserved table. Also I looked on their Facebook if they were having any type of Cinco de Mayo specials(at the end of our meal) and upon looking found that they were which was quite irritating considering I specifically asked the server if they were having specials on drinks today. He knew the lunch specials but he did not know the drink specials. On a holiday like Cinco de Mayo I'm pretty sure the drink specials are almost more important than the food specials. So basically we paid $3 more per drink then we would have had we known that there were drink specials. Not a big deal but definitely something that could have been avoided. read more

First and last time here. Awful service. Sat down and nobody came by for about 5 minutes. There were about 4 tables and 15 employees standing around. Server came and asked for drinks we asked for menus and gave us the regular ones. My companion asked hostess if it was happy hour and said yes their are happy hour menus but didn't give him one. Finally ordered food was fast drinks took along time. I stepped outside for a work call and my companion went to there bathroom ordered food before he left the table and told the waiter he was using true restroom and coming back. When I walked in the busser cleared off everything. I told him we were still here. He apologized and told the server. Server dropped off our food and said nothing about what happened. Very disappointed and not what I had expected. The enchilada Veracruz was nothing like I had in the past which was my favorite dish. The marinated vegetables were raw cabbage and Jalepinos, no mozzarella, very little green sauce. Very bland meal. The salsa was cold a flavorless nothing warm offered. Stopped by to have a quick suuuper late lunch with my Dad after a long day of car shopping. The food was spectacular as per usual but even better than the food was the service we received from Miguel C. I'm a server myself and I was absolutely blown away by his speed, efficiency, and ability to anticipate our needs. We didn't have to ask for anything the entire time we were there--waters & teas were immediately refilled, chip bowls replenished, napkins supplied, the whole nine yards. Restaurants have opened up since the pandemic and I have been hesitant to go! Cantina has safety down packed! The menu is on a QR code and every staff member wears a mask and gloves.
