I have been a fan of this place and have come a couple times in the past. Unfortunately, when I came in today with family, it was almost as hot inside the restaurant as it was outside! We asked about the AC and were told that it was on, but the new one didn't work as well as the one it replaced that must have been running years ago when I last came. I will definitely not be returning in the summer knowing that the replacement AC doesnt sufficiently cool the place, and I felt bad that the servers and staff were working in that temperature too. kudos to them for being incredibly charming throughout lunch though, they were all wonderful. read more

How have I never left a review for Cantina?! That's just awful on my behalf! This summer, I threw a lovely lunch in the private room, which held 20 ladies. It was a wonderful lunch and we had a great experience! Today I went for a lunch with my girlfriend as we were taking a break from our shopping. We started with a homemade salsa's and the handcrafted guacamole. The Guacamole is unlike any other! It is so fresh and we absolutely loved it. We ate every single bite. I had the two chicken enchiladas and my girlfriend had the Ahi tuna tacos. Both tasted absolutely divine. The chicken was super fresh and shredded very thin, I really enjoyed the flavor. Picked a beautiful day to go - around 3pm and sat outside. We had queso Laredo and each ordered salmon. It was awesome - they put chimichurra (the green stuff) over the salmon and it really made the flavor pop. Served with asparagus and some nice rice. We love the stuffed poblano at Cantina Laredo! My sister hasn't lived in JAX in 5 years but when she comes back it's our first stop. We also love the salsa that comes for the table. We ordered the guac they make at your table this visit and it was a little disappointing- I like salty guac and it definitely could have used salt. But other than that we've never had a disappointing meal. Thursday's are also ladies night so house margaritas are $4. This is a great Saturday spot for College football. My husband and I spent almost every Saturday during last season getting lunch and having a few drinks. Our favorite go to menu items: Top Shelf Guacamole - they make this table side and you can taylor it to your specific taste. My husband and I just can't stand cilantro so we ask for extra jalapeños and extra tomatoes. Chili con Queso which pairs well with the guacamole and salsas and, of course, their chips! We have also ordered the Queso Laredo which has the ground sirloin added. It's really good too but a lot larger than the Chili con Queso. My absolute favorite item is the Tradicional Tacos -soft. Lunch portion is 2 tacos and dinner portion is 3. Regular ole tacos may sound boring to some but these are not your typical tacos. They are packed with the most flavorful ground sirloin and topped with lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. They do not skimp on the fillings. You can make three tacos from lunch portion. I can barely finish the lunch portion and I have to take a taco home when I get the dinner portion. Other items I can recommend: FAJITAS, you need to be really hungry for these. My husband and I split them and still couldn't finish them. QUESADILLAS with Chicken or Steak, great flavor and perfect portion size. Probably the only menu item I've ever finished. NACHOS, large portion size and very good. I request a side of diced fresh jalapeños for this scrumptious mound of goodness. Tip: when you sit at the bar they bring you their spicy and mild salsa. Every time I have sat at a table, I have to ask for the spicy salsa. It's really good so do yourself a favor and try it. read more

One of the worst experiences in a restaurant I've had was at Cantina Laredo in Town Center, Jacksonville, Florida. Went there for a friend's birthday party and without any exaggeration it was a nightmare. The food was below average for a chain restaurant and the service was horrible. It took about 45 minutes to order our meals. Every time we ordered a drink it took about 25-30 minutes to get it to the table (our table had about 12 people). Some of the drinks we had to remind the server again and again, and he blamed it on the bar - that they had forgotten about it. In the three hours spent at the restaurant, the server stopped by maybe 4 times. Water glasses were unfilled the entire night. Wish I had something positive to say but, unfortunately, I do not. This is my second (and last) time at this restaurant and the experiences both times have been disappointing. read more

A group of us gathered in the back room for dinner. Service was spotty and challenging to say the least as we were trying to order drinks and appetizers. Eventually we seemed to get a single waitress who was pretty good. We started with multiple types of the queso, both the queso laredo with sirloin and the queso blanco with artichokes and spinach. The cheese coated the chips very nicely and the flavor was there with both varieties. We also had a couple of the tableside guacamoles. The only disappointing dip was the house salsa which had more of a burnt flavor rather than the smokey flavor that I'm assuming they were going for. It was also too runny for my liking. The carne asada was delicious. That was the best prepared item that I tasted. With such great seasoning on the beef, the blandness of the beans and cilantro rice was even more evident. For dessert, we had the tres chocolate brownie and the mango tres leches cake. You can't go wrong with a brownie a la mode but I didn't think the brandy butter added much flavor and I found it unnecessary. But that mango cake was amazing. I am not a fan of tres leches cake but I loved this one, probably because it wasn't authentic...but it was tasty. If you're in a pinch for Mexican food or looking for a place that is good for groups, check this place out. It will get the job done but it may leave you craving authentic Mexican food. read more

The tacos were extremely bland and my friends burrito was not pleasant either. Everything looked like it came out of a can and overall I was not impressed with any of the food. My water and margaritas are always full, if not, there's one on the way. You go, Laura! Want to know my biggest money saving secret here at Cantina? 1/2 off steak quesadillas during happy hour until 7. Instead of $14 for an order they're $7 or $7.5. They're full sized and comes with all the fixings. I would get one to inhale while at the bar, then attempt to eat the second one but always ending up taking it home. Of course, chips and salsa also comes at me full speed and never ending. Eventually one day I'll venture into the rest of their awesome happy hour menu, but for now their 'dillas and margaritas are satisfying my plump ways. My friends and I made reservations for dinner on a Tuesday night. It was early enough for us to enjoy some happy hour drinks which included a $5 house margarita. The margarita tasted fresh and delicious, not too sweet or like that typical artificial mixer flavor. They start the table off with chips and salsa. Both were delicious! Thin crispy chips with a smoky salsa that also had a good hint of cilantro. For dinner, I had the chicken enchiladas which were so good! One of the most upscale place in town and recommended by friend from mexico. It is a little pricey compared to other places but you are paying for the atmosphere and service as well. Their salsa is awesome and on the spicy side. They do offer $2 special drinks on Sunday. read more

We ended up at the St. John's Center to exchange something we bought on-line. Saw this place and thought we would give it a shot. Glad we did. Food was excellent. First, when you walk in, it doesn't feel like cantina Laredo. You can tell they kept the same vibe from whatever restaurant was there before. The rug smells really bad. Yes, I can smell it. Smells like mildew. Bathrooms are disgusting. The atmosphere is catered to all the business people in the area which is VERY sad to see this restaurant conform to that. I'm a Texan and would never have considered Cantina Laredo one of the best Tex-Mex restaurants in Dallas but I'm not in Texas anymore. We ate our weight in chips and salsa which were crispy and delicious. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and hubby had the chicken quesadillas and we both had 2 cocktails. Dinner was good but I have to say it was not worth $90. I did not realize their prices on drinks were so outrageous or we would have never ordered two! If I had not felt so ripped off by the price of a mojito (and you can see on the attached menu that the price was either not there or hidden) I would have probably given 4 stars. After approximately five minutes we got our drink order in. Our server checked on us often to make our orders. He noticed the children loved the chips. Our server went out of his way to bring the children a spicier dip to challenge the children. Our server kept our drinks filled and answered all questions promptly. The good we ordered was exceptionally good. The portion sizes were typical of a restaurant that serves Mexican foods. Overall experience was average expectations. So I needed to pick up some take-out on this blustery night and was really in the mood for some Mexican. My options were pretty slim as I've now removed carbs and sugar from my diet, no tortillas or rice. Bummer. But I've decided to order something from Cantina Laredo anyway because I had a promo code. Going through the menu and deciding what I wanted was fairly easy. I went with the top shelf guacamole for the avocados, since they're considered healthy fats. I see here that other reviewers say the guac is really excellent but it wasn't the best I ever had. I'm not saying that it wasn't good because it was but for "top shelf" I expected more. For my entree I got the Relleno de Camarones, a pepper filled with shrimp, cheese, spinach, zucchini, corn, mushrooms and topped with avocado. It was amazing! I wondered if their would be enough shrimp (more than 1 or 2) and I was not disappointed. Then menu doesn't mention the other greens on top of the pepper for garnish but it was a nice addition and I ate it. This also came with rice and I should've asked to substitute it but I can bring it to work and one of my coworkers will eat it hahaha. There are several weekday specials: Taco Tuesday, fajitas for 2 Wednesday, and that's all I can remember.
