I should start off by saying I am a self-proclaimed Mexican food snob. After living in both Texas and New Mexico (both of which have slightly different Mexican food), you get a "flavor" you desire when you eat Mexican food "anywhere". Some would argue that it all tastes the same, but to me, it doesn't. Honestly, I think all Mexican food tastes better in any Southwest state/area. But here on the East Coast, you have places that are pretty spot on and close. We have tried our fair share of restaurants, and not all "rice and beans" (for lack of a better term) are equal. Anejo Cocina fits the bill of being pretty darn good, a step above, and the flavors are "there". Always start off with embracing the chips and salsa. They offer them to you; take them...enjoy them!. The chips and salsa always set the stage as to what type of meal awaits. I am happy to report the Chips & Salsa are absolutely delicious here. Moreover, if you're feeling froggy, they have a tad spicier habanero salsa to offer upon request. We have eaten our way around the menu, but I must say, my favorite is always the Chili Relleno. It is always cooked to perfection, and they use the correct cheese. Any meat item you order will be enjoyable; the seasoning is perfect! They have a full bar and happy hour. I'd like to mention they offer pitchers of beer here, which seems to be hard to find these past few years. There is a large parking lot shared by other strip mall businesses; however, there is more than ample parking. It is easy to find and to get in and out of. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The service is always top-notch, and the prices and portions are fair. Anejo Cocina always offers a very inviting atmosphere, and the Mexican Décor is pretty cool. read more

We recently spent the majority of the day at the River City Wrestling Con at the World Golf Center. It's was a blast and we ran out to Anejo Cocina Parkway for lunch since it's at 650 East Twincourt Trail just outside the village on the other side of the exit from Buc-ee's. We had a couple of huge Sangrias then started with the Queso Fundido. There was a TON of chorizo in it as you can see from the photo! After that I had the Birria Burrito, which was also enormous. I liked it a lot but didn't even come close to finishing it on account of the huge-ness. Lauren had the Chicken Chimichanga with shredded chicken. She liked it a lot and also had a hard time getting through just over half of it due to there being just so much of it. Shoutout to our local community Heroes heater at this venue. We were treated like VIP as we sat out on the patio with our 120lbs Cane Corso. She loves being with us. It was a nice day and there were plenty of giant fans to circulate the air. We had a wonderful bowl of chips and salsa. I also had a side of the habanero sauce to add more kick! Yummmmy! We had some refreshing cold house made red sangria while we waited for our food. The food actually came out fairly quickly. The service here is top notch, attentive, polite, and friendly. I could not resist the chicharone. Crispness and flavor is on point. I probably would love it even more without the delicious sauce, because I like it crispy with just a squeeze of lemon.. but amazing nonetheless. Hubby ordered a giant burrito with shrimp. I ordered the sampler so that I could "sample". I was so happy! Colors, textures, and savory deliciousness! And even though I was full, I had to try a fried ice cream ... and of course it was awesome! Presented in a puffy pastry shell and the ice cream was flash fried. I think they use corn flakes here. Today some friends and I came here for lunch and I have to say I was very impressed with the restaurant. The decor is warm and inviting and I like the way they did the ambience lighting in the cabinet when you first walk in it looked very special. The waitress we had which I wished I had her name was excellent. She was very attentive and made some outstanding recommendations from the menu. I ordered the steak fajita, and it was not only a humongous portion, but the steak was flavorful and far from chewy! I was very impressed with the display in the fresh vegetables that were in it. This restaurant was clean and spacious. Our waiter Sebastian was excellent!! For being a chain, I was impressed. The salsa was just a bit too watery for my tastes, but flavorful. The cheese dip was creamy and delicious. The Enchiladas Supreme- one ground beef, one chicken, one cheese and one bean. They were all delicious! The Arroz con Pollo (chicken with cheese & rice) - the chicken was so moist you can see the juices on the plate!! Really basic dish but really good! The burrito - served wet - was huge! Make sure you are hungry or take home half (we did ) this burrito did not disappoint in flavor!! Lastly, the Flautas - my personal favorite! Had two beef and two chicken. We have eaten here twice, and had two stellar experiences! Guillermo was our server yesterday and he was a pro from start to finish. Very attentive. Both times we were celebrating something and yesterday was our Son's 16th birthday and they got the whole staff to sing and embarrass him, which was awesome. I highly recommend the steaming Molcajete bowl to share for two people, although we could've shared it with three people there was so much food, it was amazing! Last time we got the ceviche which was sublime. The habañero picante was perfect. Our Son liked his quesobirria tacos. The only detractor was the queso fundido con chorizo- it was great, but not the processed melted slop we were expecting (and yes sometimes you want processed sloppiness!) so, not a bad thing, just not what we expected. One last thing we would like to see is a Taco Tuesday special like Cantina Louis does, such a bargain! Looking forward to making this our regular spot! read more

Always a yummy lunch spot! I love their Al Pastor tacos. The lunch portions are very big too. They do limit you to only a few baskets of chips which is unlike other Mexican restaurants in the area. My husband was born and raised in California, and as a cook himself, he definitely noticed the difference! If the restaurant owner would like to reach out to my husband and have him show them how to create an authentic California burrito, he'd gladly do so--with a little bit of pay. That way, they can offer both the authentic version and their revised one as options for customers. The rest of the experience was great! From the moment we walked in (even though it was pretty late), we were seated right away. The server brought out chips, salsa, and drinks super quickly--and everything was fresh, even at the end of the night. The atmosphere was clean, beautiful, and well-lit. They had Spanish-style music playing at just the right volume--fun, but not too loud to talk over. Guillermo was fantastic--definitely ask for him when you go there! This is a must-visit if you are in the St. Augustine, FL area. Big, bright, bold, and a little loud. The atmosphere is akin to their food. I love it! It's really hard to find good Mexican food in Jacksonville. And believe me being from Texas, I have been looking for a while. Anejo is one of my favorites. The atmosphere is always festive and lively. Their food is consistently good. And their portions are large. However, today was a little different. It seemed like a few of the menu items were not fresh. And it did take us a long time to get our entrées. This is unusual for my experience and I have been to several locations several times. Maybe just a bad day. They have a fairly large menu - pictures included . An awesome bar with several flavors of mixed margaritas waiting to tantalize your taste buds. Nice location in World Golf Village - easy to get to with parking right in front. Perfect for this Sunday afternoon lunch ! There is a place for dining alfresco however it's a little cool today. Come and enjoy! I give them three stars this visit because some of the items were not fresh. And it did take a while for us to get our chips and salsa refilled as well as for our entrées to come out. My wife and I recently had dinner at Anejo Cocina off International Golf Parkway. We have been to the Anejo Cocina at Pointe Vedra Beach and in Nocatee in the past. Each restaurant is decorated differently than the others. The Anejo off IGP is located at the end of a strip mall and is spacious and nicely furnished. We ordered drinks that were good, priced in line with other nice Mexican restaurants. We had a delicious Chimichanga and the Chicken and Steak Fajitas. Both dishes had large portions and were very tasty. The chimichanga was filled with tons of shredded chicken which needed some salsa to accompany it. Their Fajitas are always good. A small critique is the restaurant only provides 3 tortillas to accompany such a generous dish. We ate at an off hour rime and were lucky to have Gabriella (Gaby S) as our Server. She was also working the bar. Gabriella was fantastic. She was extremely personable, knowledgeable and really enthusiastic about her job. She is a credit to the restaurant. We were visiting Saint Augustine and staying close to this Añejo Cocina location. We tried this on a whim last night and we have to say, North St. Augustine has a hidden little gem here! The decor was beautiful and tastefully done. It was so clean! The host was quick to greet and seat us. We were served chips and salsa right away. The salsa was quite good. Our waitress, Jennifer quickly came over and took our drink orders. We chose the trio fajitas, which arrived steaming hot, complimented with refried beans, Mexican rice, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and a very good pico as well as flour tortillas. The fajitas was a generous portion, seasoned perfectly and very good! The manager came over and asked if everything was okay. We chatted for a few minutes. The staff were extremely welcoming and engaging. We are just sorry we don't live in the area to continue to support this business but hopefully after reading this review, others will give it a try. They GOUGE you on the liquor menu, especially the margaritas. They "supposedly" had a speciai Cinco de Mayo margaritas for $7. I asked the waitress what were the "special" margaritas & she named 2, which I picked one. When we got the bill, we were charged $16 for a margarita that was served in a regular (but blue small) glass and it was FULL of ice and some margarita mix that actually tasted pretty bad. Put a tip on it and it's now a $19 margarita!!!! The food was okay but not great. The service was fair, at best. It was the principal that got me. I called them a few days later and spoke to the manager and said "that's what they cost"....really? What happened to the $7 price. Anyway, don't bother - it's nothing special but another chain restaurant that wants to gauge you on the liquor. We are being taken advantage of people!!!! read more

Been there twice in the past two weeks. Last week the food was great but the drinks (2 large margaritas) were not worth the $18 price. Taste was good but the glass was absolutely filled to the top with ice. Not exaggerating there was maybe 4-5 oz of liquid and we paid $36 total. Today we went back and this time did not order drinks but ordered fajitas for 2. Last week they charged us $5 for a second side of rice/beans/salad/tortillas but today it was rang up a la carte for a total of $11 for the same side as last week. Many Mexican restaurants have the option for 2 on the menu and it ranges from $4-$5 for the side but not here. The fajitas were great again but the inconsistency is awful. For $6 more we could have gotten 2 orders of fajitas and had tons of left overs. This is a sign for poor management! read more

I'd give it 3.5 teetering to a 3.8. Spacious inside & nice decor. You shouldn't have a hard time getting a spot. It's located in a strip business area so parking is plentiful also. The bar is thankfully a decent size with a squared shape & comfortable leather like cushy seating with backs that goes around 3 sides as the back side is in the wall. TVs hang above so if there is something you wanted to watch you have an option. Bartenders are super nice, friendly & mostly attentive. We typically sit at the bar to eat and have drinks. Chips and salsa come out almost as soon as you sit down, which is great. The bar is full bar so there are lots of options as well as the menu, which has a decent sized selection. I had the salmon entree over grilled julienne vegetables (carrots, squash & zucchini) & cilantro rice. Beautiful presentation. My only complaint/suggestion is the peach mango sauce that comes on the side for the salmon was very cold as if it came out of the refrigerator. That is not going to work for me for a warm salmon. Also, the grilled salmon was cooked perfectly, but slightly bland in flavor itself. I assume the importance of the sauce, but again I don't use it. There was other sauce drizzle that was very tasty. Hubby had chimichurri tacos which he really liked and had no suggestions to change. It's nice having a decent to strong Mexican place nearby in the neighborhood to roll into at will. We ordered two top-shelf margaritas and two house margaritas before even having dinner, and I barely felt a buzz. For context, this was my first meal of the day. It's clear they're skimping on the tequila--you could barely taste it. At first, I assumed it was just the sweetener overpowering the flavor, but after four drinks, it was obvious what the real issue was. My wife had the exact same experience, so it definitely wasn't just me. To make matters worse, lightning struck and the power went out, forcing us to sit and wait while their systems rebooted before we could even pay the bill. This is our 2nd time for Anejo at this location and we arrived at 5pm when it wasn't very busy. We were seated immediately and greeted promptly by our server, Elder, who was quite personable, efficient & had a good knowledge of the assorted dishes on the extensive menu. Warm corn chips & salsa were brought to the table and we found the salsa to be zesty & quite tasty. I ordered the steak fajitas w/corn tortillas & extra grilled onions...also ordered at the table were the birria beef burrito & steak quesadillas. The meals were served before we knew it. When the burritos were presented we saw they were HUGE, covering an oblong plate and topped with melted white queso. Both my wife & adult son pronounced them very flavorful and quite filling. The fajitas were sizzling and the aroma of the onion was mouth-watering. I filled the tortillas w/beans, rice, steak, onion & bell pepper and salsa. Everything was very tasty but the downside was the longer strips of steak were tough to bite through and, while well seasoned, not very tender. I ordered the Pollo Asado tacos... just like the menu says... never had a problem before. The waitress brought out steak tacos. I told her this isn't what I ordered ( I don't eat steak). She shrugged her shoulders and said I confirmed, no she did not. Asked for the manager. Manager said , the waitress said she confirmed, I told her no, and I don't eat steak so I wouldn't have ordered that. The manager shrugged her shoulders and said well I guess I can have it fixed for you but it's going to take awhile... chicken tacos don't take awhile.
