We were looking for a place to eat after seeing a show at the White Plains Performing Arts Theater and we hardly ever pass up Mexican! The place was fairly empty for a Sunday afternoon but happy that it wasn't noisy. They brought chips and salsa immediately to the table but didn't take our drink orders until we decided on entrees. (The salsa that came with the chips wasn't spicy). I ordered the Al pastor tacos, while the others ordered enchiladas, a burrito, and chicken tacos. This place was horrible! We ordered the skirt steak and steak fajitas. We were one of only 2 tables in the whole restaurant. They delivered our fajitas to the wrong table then delivered our steak to us. It was cold. Then they proceeded to tell us that they were out of rice and beans. At a Mexican restaurant at 7 pm on a Saturday night. They then brought us a skillet with meat and veggies and nothing other than tostadas to make fajitas. White Plains, like many other places around the country, has seen a number of businesses close their doors since the COVID pandemic hit. While it's depressing to see, it is also encouraging that a number of new businesses are in the works or have opened their doors already. Bello's is one of the newest eateries to open in Downtown White Plains, and since I'm always down to trying new places, I decided to try them out for dinner. Bello's is located in the heart of City Center in Downtown White Plains. It's the second new Mexican restaurant to open in the area, and coincidentally(?) the second Mexican restaurant to replace and Italian restaurant. Even with two Italian restaurants down, people needn't worry since if anything there is an overabundance of them in the city to begin with. I had been to the restaurant that preceded Bello's and from what it looks like they didn't do too much with the interior. It kind of has a generic decor but added Mexican touches which made it inviting. Full disclosure though, I ordered out so I could only judge by what I saw walking in and picking up my food. Anyway, they posted a menu on the window with a QR code to access their online ordering portal. There's a large selection - a lot of Mexican dishes with a few American selections as well. I was surprised to see a breakfast section on their menu but per their website they open at 6am so it makes sense. I was in the mood for a burrito - they gave a lot of option to customize so I chose to fill it with grilled chicken, rice, lettuce, onion, guac, and cheese. I also wanted to try their chicken flautas, and I got sides of rice and beans to round it all out. The flautas were pretty good - they were a nice size and had a good amount of chicken in them. The rice was seasoned well, and the beans were good but nothing spectacular. The burrito was generously filled, and I thought it was great that they included a number of sauces to complement both the burrito and flautas; the dipping was real and added a lot of flavor to the food. Service was good - the woman at the front counter was very friendly. If I had to give one piece of feedback it would be to pay mind to pickup times. I'm not sure they paid attention to the fact that I chose a later time because I arrived only 4 minutes after I said I would and had received a call to remind me that my food was ready. They're new, though, so I'm sure they'll work out the kinks as time goes on. Overall, though, I enjoyed my first experience at Bello's. I'm happy to see a more diverse selection of restaurants open in WP, and I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu. read more

Service was not great. As we ordered drinks and was delayed. We orders 2 skirt steak dinner 27.99 each. (No kids menu or drinks.) just apple juice for 5.00 each and the cup was not even full. 2 orders of mozzarella sticks with fries. 10.99 and tenders w/ fries 10.99 with 2 beers and 4 shots. Shots were over priced 60.00. (Should have just bought a bottle.) Totaling about $180.before tax. We got charged a surcharge for over 16% and when I asked the waitress what that was for she responded it was her tip money. I asked why so much she said the machine does it automatically. That makes no sense. What if I wanted to pay cash as I normally do.? My bill after these ridiculous prices came up to $233. I guess this is why they don't have customers coming in. The pineapple on top is served raw but it was still really good. Found this spot after going to the performing arts center. The customer service was great and kept coming to the table to check on us. I ordered the steak fajitas which were very good. The only downside you only get 3 soft tortillas when the plate is large enough for at least six. Also had the house margarita which was not watered down and had plenty of punch to it. Kids asked for mozzarella sticks and although I don't know if you regularly not get Marina sauce with them, we had to ask. Overall the place was nice and the food was delicious. read more

Warning: There is some language in this review as I felt it was necessary to convey my honest opinion. Absolutely fucking disgusting. That is the best way I can describe my meal here. As I walked in, the place was completely empty, enough to put anyone off. I decided to continue into the restaurant and had a seat at one of the tables in the back. The service was terrible, even though we were the only ones in the whole place, and the food was even worse. The waitress first brought out some chips and salsa that were incredibly stale, and they tasted as though it had been left out for days. I ordered the tacos, which took forty five minutes to come, all to end up tasting horrible. As you can see below, I couldn't stand them, and was forced to spit them out. My wife ordered the burrito which tasted sweaty, if you know what I mean, and she nearly threw up. If you are in the white plains area I highly suggest you avoid this shithole, and there are much better restaurants you can go to than this. If you are looking for Mexican, I recommend chipotle. A good hole-in-the-wall restaurant that we stumbled on. I overnight in White Plains for work quite often and found this place on our way to Chipotle so we decided to give it a shot. The waitress was really nice and the restaurant had a good atmosphere. I ordered three tacos - a chicken, chorizo, and al pastor. All were really good and deceivingly filling. I also had their pineapple drink. They don't yet have a license to sell alcohol but they will in a couple of weeks as of this writing. All in all it's a good hole in the wall spot where you can get some good tacos for a good price. I'll be back next time I'm in town to try out something else one their menu. read more

Have eaten here twice recently. Reasonable prices, good variety, attentive service, always room and low key music. Food was well prepared and tasty. Fried whole snapper was a bargain, and delicious. Used both hands and ate everything except head. Tacos good--there's Tuesday Taco night too. Flautas tasty as well. Molcajete was marvelous dish, sort of a kitchen sink with everything Mexican. We started off with the house Margarita which was way too sweet.. they provided salsa and chips.. the salsa was nothing short of water !! My very first authentic Burrito was in 1990, in Los Angeles CA. Since then I fell in love with Mexican Cuisine. I tried Bello's because it was right next to where I shop. I do have my favorite Mexican dinner near my house but I figured why not indulge in the spice of life: Always try something new! I don't consider myself a food critic, so I'll just say I was very Underwhelmed. Over-all, the burrito was greasy with way too much cilantro, the bits of chicken that were in it was too hard and the rice had that left over taste. Also, I never had a burrito with an after-taste. As such, I couldn't eat the other section. This in not a critique of the entire menu or of the restaurant itself. Best of luck Bello's! The waitress was really nice but the tacos were poorly made al pastor tacos should be cooked pineapple with the meat ( I eat authentic tacos often ) but Raw pineapple was sprinkled on top the meat was over cooked as well as the crema or sour cream was the consistency of water . I had the Tacos Al Pastor and she had shrimp fajitas, which she insisted on sharing with me. Also, we had chips with guacamole. I thought it was just okay, while she liked it a lot. My mom and I are Mexican are can be very picky eating out Mexican food as many times restaurants easily cater to non-mexican clientele. However, Bellos rice, beans and enchiladas de mole tasted just like home! Very authentic!!!! I had the chorizo quesadillas and love that they use oxaca cheese yum. First time and sooo happy! There was (still is?) a food truck on the upper west side and they made amazing cemitas, without meat if you ask, which I do. Since moving to White Plains I've been looking for another great cemita. My cemita included papalo leaves, new to me, and I loved them. If there are other vegetarians out there looking for a cemita, try Bello's and just ask for a no meat cemita. My partner is not vegetarian and he had pork tacos and a salted beef cemita, both received highly positive reviews. He found the papalo leaves too perfumy but recommends trying it as is first and if not to your palate , just get without the next time. Me, I'm a fan. read more
