I had high hopes for Canton Chinese Buffet... but I doubt I will go back. I am usually leery of buffets... because while quantity is good, they often lack quality. And yep... it was sub-par. The pepper beef was so salty it was inedible. Spring rolls were mush inside. General Tso's chicken was tasteless and inedible. Cashew chicken was ok... but not great. Fried bananas were cold and not much flavor The Mushroom Beef was ok. The orange chicken, blah. $18.50 for dinner buffet? They need to do better to justify that. If you want lots of mediocre food, this place is good for that. If you want tasty Chinese food... not so much. read more

First we brought our own water because of the review the water was "cloudy", we walked in Thursday early evening and the place was PACKED. Not kidding, which after reading all the Debbie downers we still came to witness how valid these reviews were. The place was NOT dark, the water was NOT cloudy and the food surprisingly, was NOT overcooked. The hot and sour soup was delicious, the report of lack of chicken was fake news. Plenty meat and chicken at the buffet. FYI, Chinese people as a matter of nature talk loud. That's how they sound even when answering questions. Remember, it's their second language. Together, we gave them 4.5 stars. Please people, this was the first time my wife and I ate at this Chinese place. This place is definitely rated too low. It's not the best Asian buffet ever, and it won't blow your mind, but it has some solid food and you can stuff yourself on a budget. BBQ pork, salt and pepper shrimp, and sesame balls are highlights of the buffet. Getting some fruit for dessert to balance out all the fried food leaves you not feeling terrible. The "American chicken" type items like General's Chicken are underwhelming, so don't fill your plate with those. The place fools you when you look at it as a Chinese restaurant but as you go in, you realize that the place is not updated quality of food is horrible. The rice is overcooked. Pretty good for a budget buffet! I went with a large group on Mother's Day, had to wait in line for a good 30 minutes but I suppose it's like that everywhere on a holiday. We were seated together and given drinks quickly, service is always just ok here which is fine. The variety of food is pretty decent-- 2 kinds of noodles; 2 kinds of friend rice; several seafood dishes including oysters (these go fast!!), deep fried shrimp,baked swai (fish), and mussels in black bean sauce; beef broccoli, general Tso chicken (very good!), honey battered deep fried chicken, Chinese bbq (aka char siu) egg rolls, soups, a few kinds of sushi, salad, and desserts! There is even an ice cream with mini cones that my kids love. We have been here several times, they are consistent with food quality which is nice and they keep the buffet line filled and looking good! read more

Came here for dinner and wasn't impressed. First, the restaurant itself didn't seem that clean. The floor was super slippery and our table was really sticky. Once we got to the buffet, they hadn't stocked the bowls for the soup (and they never did the entire time we were there). The food itself was bland and they used a lot of corn starch so everything was very gloppy. I've had much higher quality Chinese food at most other buffets. They also didn't keep the dishes well stocked, so once they ran out there was no more for the duration of our visit. When we left, we were surprised by the cost - $17 per person. Not worth it at all. It's reasonably priced and they have room for large groups of people, which is who we usually come with. This time it was just two of us. The service starts off great but if you are a soda-holic like me, you'll have to pace yourself. It took a while for them to refill my soda (twice). As for the food, it was busy, but they still did a good job keeping items stocked. What do I recommend. Steamed rice, of course, and the teriyaki chicken on the stick (vs stand alone). It really is a difference in flavor. Of course you'll want to try the other items including sushi, if you're a fan. I am not sure if it's a weekend thing, but tonight they had crab legs. They go really fast so you almost have to jump over tables, counters, shelves, to get there when it comes out. Okay, maybe a little sarcastic, or is it? Dessert: They have a few desserts including almond cookies and soft serve ice cream. They have this flaky pastry that looks like a heart. Get that, pour some soft serve on top of it. YUM! We generally celebrate Christmas Day with Chinese but because of conflicting schedules, we had to celebrate prior to Christmas Day. This place always seems to be busy & thought we'd give it a shot. I ordered through the Yelp app but for pick up. Arrived 15 mins early & was told it wasn't ready & I needed to wait...10 mins after the pick up time, I was still waiting. Got my order & took home to my family of 5 (4 adults & preteen)...Crab puffs were good but chicken teriyaki skewers were dry. The food overall was okay but hot. It was around $80 which isn't too bad...give it a shot to see what you think...we will keep exploring other Chinese options in Vancouver.... read more

Wow... a lot of grumpy reviews! my first time here and didn't know what to expect... first impressions: the place is getting kinda tired and needs refreshing... the staff isn't very friendly but I'm finding that aspect is pretty normal in Asian restaurants... no big deal... the Buffett islands were impressive in the variety and many options, as you might suspect you do need to pick and choose and I would suggest you do a small tasting before "jumpin' in)... in terms of the quality I thought it was nicely prepared and in most cases better than I expected... I was not disappointed... I agree that the sushi was nothing to write home about but what the heck... table service...meh! Value... good! I wouldn't bring a date but I will certainly go back... If you are looking for a five star have it your way type of restaurant this is probably not it. I've been coming here for over 10 years and the place has not changed, the staff are all the same, everything taste, the same, and they treat you the same,. It seems like the number one goal is to get the food out and make sure it's fresh and yummy. Customer service is not their priority. I love their food and never disappoints especially around lunchtime and dinner. Their salt and pepper shrimp and squid is amazing. Sushi definitely not their expertise. OMG! This place should receive an award for being one of the worst Chinese restaurants I've ever experienced! This place is so bad I have to believe they're doing it on purpose. If I could give them zero stars then it would be more a more appropriate rating. Food Absolutely horrible. The beef & broccoli had so little meat in it that it should have been titled 'beef flavored broccoli." The entire pan was at least 90% broccoli with a few pieces of meat mixed in. The crab puffs had so little filling that they are basically just fried wontons. The soups were horrible tasting and not hot. Most of dishes had almost no taste. The shrimp wasn't deveined. The only dish I moderately liked was the orange chicken and that was because it was the only item on the entire buffet that was hot. The sweet & sour sauce was so watery it reminded me of melted jello. The cocktail sauce was also very watery to the point you could hardly discern what it was...I had to smell it twice to make sure it was actually cocktail liquid. And finally, I left there with a nasty chemical-like aftertaste in my mouth. I had to drink a few sodas before I could finally get that taste to go away. Service Poor. I was never asked how the food was by my server...because I surely would have told them how bad it was. When I went to pay, again I wasn't asked how the food was. I wish they had because I would have given them an earful. Ambiance The restroom was disgusting. I reeked of urine, the kind that hits you in the face once you enter the room. The overall feel of the place was very dirty. The tables are so old that the tops have big cracks in them...not good for a food establishment where food can get in there and breed bacteria. In my opinion this is the best Chinese buffet in Vancouver. Considering there is only two options there isn't a lot of competition. The food was fresh and they kept it fresh circulating old out and new in while I was there. The selection of food was great. Sushi, sweet and sour chicken, rice, soup, anything you'd want from Chinese food they offer in the style of all you can eat. Hell, they even have garlic bread. And unlike mcDonalds, the ice cream machine here works. The staff were friendly and were constantly making rounds refilling beverages and clearing plates (unlike their competitor) If your looking for a bit of gluttony. Hot and sour- neither hot nor sour S and p squid- over cooked tastes fishy S and p shrimp- over cooked dried out uncleaned General tso- decent. Had better. Had worse Orange chicken. I know what the texture of fried fish ISNT supposed to be like. Honey chicken. Rock hard. Teriyaki chicken sticks. Not bad but unnecessarily large. Sweet and sour pork. Again not bad. Lots of hard outside but all the necessary parts are there BBQ pork. Decent. Fried rice. Also decent. However I found a black hair in mine. 50/50 that it's not mine. Ok maybe 80/20. After sheepishly spreading around the half eaten food to make it look like I tried. Time for a new strategy. I'll feel I got my money's worth if I just assemble a plate of the things I liked. Ooh sushi. What's inside. One has a cumber and maybe carrot. The other cream cheese or tofu and a cucumber. Is this a sick joke mocking my people. Finally I found one with the components of a California roll. Gross! Fishy. Mushy. Ew. I'd never judge a buffet on the success of all its items. Basically there is a formula of best items-most offensive/ price. It is very difficult to get one star. This came close. And also what garden hose did the tap water come out of. My wife and I have been going here for years and had to see if all the bad reviews are warranted. First, the food is reasonably priced and prepared satisfactory, second, the place is clean and when the pandemic was on they practiced the required protocol, third, the location is convenient and parking is plentiful. Is there room for improvement ? Yes, some comments stated that the service could be better and I get that. They run a minimal crew and are always in motion so don't expect Beverly Hills service. However, the waitresses should come around at least once to check on diners in my opinion whether it be a buffet or not. For what they offer and price I wouldn't pass on it and hope they make some small adjustments to address issues mentioned below. My wife and I will go back and enjoy lunch with them. I wavered between 1 and 2 stars for this review. To me, it's not just about the food, but dining out is also about ambiance and more importantly, service, and this is where I feel they fall very short. I've been here several times... the food is decent, like you would expect at any Chinese buffet. Love the chicken skewers. And they sell Pepsi products... what more could be better? Well, let me tell you.... If all that matters is the food, then this place might be ok for you. Give it a shot. If. you want friendly service, DO NOT GO HERE. Staff is rude, short with customers, and sometimes just downright nasty. My last experience: I entered the restaurant, and was "greeted" by the woman behind the counter. She took me back to my table, and asked what I wanted to drink, she took my order and I said "thank you", she looked RIGHT AT ME and just didn't say a word. Ok, whatever. Got done with plate #1 (of 2). When I got back from getting my last plate, all my glasses (which still had soda and water in them) were gone and my table was wiped off... I went to the counter to tell them, and there was no apology, and it took forever to get another drink (they weren't all that busy). I finished off that slop (it really wasn't that good this time), paid for my food, didn't leave a tip this time, and left. I'll never return. So to summarize: If you are just looking for Chinese food close to I-5 (right off exit 4) and can turn blinders on to the rest of the world, give it a go. I suggest headphones to block out all the people who insist on playing their videos in public for the whole restaurant to hear. If ambiance matters, consider.... 1) Place is very dingy and dark - gives aura of dirtiness, but it's actually not too bad - I have seen worse (Kings Buffet in SE Vancouver for example, which is no longer in business). This restaurant does have health violations though (as you can see in the Yelp description). 2) Rude employees. So rude. No apology for mistakes. They don't ask you how the experience was either. 3) They have arrows down at the buffet area to control the traffic flow, not that anyone pays attention.... I am all for local businesses, but this one needs work. I'll drive the extra distance to go to Makoto. More expensive, sure, but better quality and nicer people... and they also have Pepsi :) read more

The people who work here are super rude. I have come here twice, and won't be back. The first time I came for dinner around 7, when 8 asked to be seated the lady barked at me they close at 8 and was reluctant to even seat me. The 2nd time I came in for a late lunch around 2:30, and she almost refused to seat me again because dinner menu started at 3 and she wanted me to pay the higher price, even though there was 30min til dinner and the food is the SAME (mediocre at best). Also, they apparently don't have soy sauce, so don't offend them by asking. I have never felt so poorly treated at a restaurant before, it's like we all inconvenience them terribly.
