Ok so I was so excited to go here. There is something really comforting about a tamale done right!…read moreThe glowing reviews and pictures seemed promising. The restaurant itself has a lot of character, it full of textures and colors, had a cute little fountain outside. It just feels homey and welcoming. The menu...is hella pricey for a tamale. I mean even with inflation these days I could get a tamale at most spots where I live for like half the price. I just told myself it's Sedona just except it lol so I went wild and got their extra special tamale with lots of topping to make it a more complete meal. I chose the chicken mole for my filling. I also got their dairy free horchata. First thing the horchata was delicious! Creamy, great texture, not to sweet, seasoned just right. Extra points for being dairy free as milk is not my bodies friend. The tamale however was a major let down. I was so close to just sending it back, but was on a time crunch and starving. The masa was so salty. The mole sauce was barely existent and had no complexity or flavor really. I didn't taste the chocolate or the Chile . Just blah. The toppings and horchata helped make it possible to consume despite the saltiness. So overpriced salty tamale gets 2 stars, ambiance 5, and horchata 5, which is why this place gets a three stars overall. I wanted to love this spot so bad, and maybe it was a bad day, or the wrong thing to get...but their name is literally tamaliza. Their tamale should have rocked my world.

The menu was posted and easy to read. There were tons of options, my favorite, or the fried pineapple and pickles. Also, the rice was very flavorful few of my friends to get the burger or not impressed but everyone who did get tacos or something of that nature enjoy their food. There is outdoor seating available, but the biggest drawback is you'll have to be prepared to wait. Great customer service it just seemed like they needed more help.

Picture are some of what we experienced. It was a Friday evening and they must have been preparing for a busy night as we could see people in the kitchen as its door was open. The window to order from was up, and we could see it say, ring the bell for service. I couldn't find a bell and was looking alongside the window frame for a buzzer that would ring, I stuck my head and looked to see if there was any like at a hotel registration desk, nothing. My whole body was leaning through the window so that I could reach the bell that was on other side of counter for which I could ring it real loud. I ordered a pizza that had arugula, avocado, bacon, and feta cheese. It was tasty! There were portions where the dough could have been cooked longer. My husband ordered a burger and addition of avocado which he discovered halfway into finishing it off, was missing but didn't bother to say anything. And he had fries and onion rings which were absolutely fantastic and you can tell I had some.

You'll probably have to reserve pretty far in advance if you want one of those times. I was there after a long day of traveling, so I arrived pretty hungry. They have a small parking lot out front, but I wasn't able to find a spot there. Thankfully, there are nearby free parking lots as well. You might be thinking, won't you be rushed to have dinner since they close at 9? I had the same question, but apparently, even though they close at 9, each customer gets 1.5 hours to eat, so no issues if you have a late reservation. Ordered the Elote and Quesadilla de Costilla as appetizers. It took quite a while for them to come out, but the Elote was absolutely amazing. The tanginess of the lime goes really well with the spicy mayo and corn. I'd highly recommend it. The Quesadilla de Costilla was also fantastic. For my main dish, I ordered the Carne Asada. The steak was good, but I didn't like the dish too much overall. I definitely enjoyed the appetizers more. If I were to go back in the future, I'd most likely just order appetizers like the Elote and quesadillas. Those alone would be enough for me!

This is an order at the register then find your table establishment. Much of the menu was tempting, but we settled on the Rowdy Reuben with sweet potato fries and the Rajun Cajun with seasoned fries. There's a nice variety of canned and bottled sodas in the fridge next to the checkout, so we snagged the local sumac berries strawberry and peaches & cream Navajo Fizz sodas. These quenched our thirst without being too sweet or carbonated, and it was difficult to not drink more than one. Our order came out fairly quickly, in about 15 minutes, and was piping hot and fresh. Both sandwiches and fries were great and included fairly large portion sizes. The Rajun Cajun featured an impressive amount of thin cut avocado slices and bacon, although I really did not taste the Cajun seasoning. My favorites were the crispy sweet potato fries and Reuben sandwich with homemade sauerkraut. Be sure to request some of Outlaw Grille's homemade ranch to go along with it if you're a fries + ranch person. We enjoyed visiting this unique eatery in downtown Sedona, and would return for the fair prices & tasty sandwiches and fries.

You order at the window, take a number, and seat yourself in a small shopping complex. While there's the option to sit inside a small/air-conditioned room, there's also shaded patio seating and seating in the hallway of the connected small shopping building, where most of the tables are. It's completely shaded but open to outside air. After ordering the The Morning After burger (Fried Egg, Bacon, Cheddar, Fresh Jalapenos) + small Seasoned Fries (for 1-2 people), we waited about 15 minutes for the food to be brought to our table. They were kind enough to cut the burger in half and provide an egg for each half, since they knew we were sharing!! Indeed, 1 burger and 1 small fry is enough to feed 2 people. As expected, the burger was juicy, flavorful, and the egg was perfectly fried to still be runny. Outlaw Grille is a small burger joint packed with big flavors. No frills, no nonsense -- just good ass food at reasonable prices. Bonus: asking for a free water cup will score you delicious Sedona spring water!
