We ordered an Avocado Burger with pepper jack cheese and a 1/2 rack of pork ribs. We choose the ranch beans with meat as the sides. The Avocado burger was delicious, but the highlight of the meal were the ranch beans and pork ribs. The ribs were very meaty and were cooked perfectly. I judge a good rib based on its flavor without any sauce and this was a great rib. Juicy, meaty and flavorful. They have four different kinds of BBQ sauce, all tomato based. Their original BBQ sauce definitely added some good flavor to the ribs and hamburger and their tangy flavor BBQ sauce was also good. We dined last year here and the food and service was incredible!! wish I could say the same, we arrived and there was 3 waitresses inside and one outside talking to a man with curly hair, waitress had tattoos down her arm. She came inside and asked for our drink order, when she brought me a bottle coke, I mentioned I would rather have a soda on tap, she did not seemed happy. After my wife and I order, she brought our food ( brought entree BEFORE appetizers) backwards and blame the cooks. she brought my wife's pulled pork and my brisket sandwich, we were ready to eat and well, our appetizer showed up, now let review this food: 1) Nachos were very good, except for the brisket and pulled pork. 2) Pull3d pork sandwich was watery, the sauce tasted watered down and tasteless! 3) My brisket sandwich , dry flavorless . This was our first trip to Sedona and found that this area has many good restaurants. We ate at four while we were in town. On our last night we were on our way to another restaurant when my wife noticed Doc's. As I drove, we talked back and forth about BBQ, and when we reached the next roundabout, I did the full circle and headed back to try out Doc's. We ate outside on a beautiful evening. I tried the Cowboy Mule cocktail, which is Woodford Reserve, lime juice and ginger beer. Refreshing and a great start! My wife ordered a Southwest salad with smoked brisket, which comes with a sweet and tangy honey lime cilantro dressing. The brisket was a generous portion and it was served chopped to the side of the salad. I ordered the Double Barrel Shotgun, which was smoked brisket and St.Louis style pork ribs. Our server was Ashlee, who asked if I wanted the brisket lean, fatty, or a combination of both. Honestly, I have never had the choice offered to me anywhere, so this was another reason I was glad we turned that car around. The meal comes with two sides, but I opted to get the coleslaw and an extra-charge Smoked Ranch Beans. The smoked ranch beans could have been a meal in itself, chock full of chunks of pork along with properly cooked beans in a thick sauce that reminded me of Texas chili. The brisket, which I ordered as lean, was still plenty juicy and flavorful. The ribs were very meaty - and this is what I look for - the meat took a bit of a tug to get off of the bones. I like to get a bit of a primitive gnaw on the bones, and not have the meat easily separate while handling the rib. So, thank you to the bartender, the smoker staff, kitchen staff and the friendly and attentive Ashlee. You made our final meal in Sedona a memorable one. read more

Love BBQ so had to give this place a try while in Sedona. Huge portion sizes for a BBQ place as the platter was big enough for me and my toddler to share 2 meals from. Love the sauce options (my favorite was the hot but the sweet was really good too). I had the player with brisket, ribs, pulled pork and sausage. Minus 1 star as food was not hot. Since it's smoked and salted I ate it anyway. I didn't complain so don't know if they would have fixed it. I tried the 6 shooter sampler- a bit of everything. Turkey and pork ribs were excellent. Beef was very good. I chose the jalepeno sausage (the other option is Texas style- not sure what that would be)-it was a little dry and had peppercorn. I didn't pick up on the jalepeno. The pulled pork was dry. I love that they have three sauces. The tangy has a good amount of vinegar and was good on the charred meats. The house and sweet fire were slightly similar to me but both good and mixed well with the different meats. Fries were hot and crispy and salty with some all spice on it. Tasty. Came back to Sedona for the second time. We just happen to stay across the street. The smell brought us in. The brisket was mouth watering and the beans were excellent. My daughter had the chicken and ate it all. No leftovers. My son had a burger and killed it and the fries. The staff was great. Very personable and engaging. We really enjoyed this place--it has such a wonderful atmosphere. The barbecue is amazing. My husband had a barbecue sandwich with sliced brisket that was incredibly good and very close to true Texas-style barbecue. Their tangy barbecue sauce is outstanding, and the French fries were unbelievably crispy. I ordered a kids' cheeseburger, and it was huge! My husband also had a classic cheeseburger, and it was absolutely delicious--juicy, homemade-style, with a thick 8-ounce Wagyu beef patty. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately my experiences haven't been great. I called one morning to ask about breakfast burritos and was met with a curt, somewhat unfriendly response. I was told they weren't open yet, and then informed that breakfast burritos are only available one day a week--and that day wasn't today. It didn't leave a great first impression. Since then, I've tried a few times to order specific items, but they've often been out of what I wanted, which has been frustrating. I decided to give them another shot and stopped in for lunch, hoping for a better experience. Sadly, it was pretty underwhelming. The food was bland and didn't have the flavor I was expecting. Doc's has stepped up to the "plate" at the old colts location in Oak Creek. Service was great no wait for a table on a Saturday lunch hour! Brisket was excellent , wife had the fried chicken, wasn't great need to do smoked chicken breast rather the a half chicken. A little much for lunch. Nice bar area and indoor seating was good. Unfortunately Doc's does not reach the level of the Colt BBQ that it replaced. While Colt used USDA prime meet it's obvious that Doc's does not. The difference is evident. Cold ground their own hamburger meat, and it was one of the best hamburgers I've ever tasted. They used the trimmings from their meat and thus the patty was flavorful and included both beef and pork. Docs is using a commercial patty and the flavor just does not match up. Also I preferred colts method of ordering at the counter and picking up your own food versus Doc's table service. It allowed Colt to serve a better product and essentially the same price. Unfortunately for Doc's, Colt set a high bar that they haven't reached. read more

This is the reincarnation of Colt Grill, under new owners, after the owners of the former were arrested by the Feds and their restaurants shut down. On the whole, a good experience. The bbq meat is about as before, and that is the only reason of course why you would go to Doc's. The service was good. But I liked the no-service of Colt, since it is cost-saving and a lot of local folks do not have large resources. The french fries were fine, though they could have been a bit warmer. What was not acceptable were the coleslaw and the bread. The coleslaw was about the worst that I've had. Full of sugar and runny like soup. Ugh. Why would you add sugar to coleslaw? To promote adult-onset diabetes? The bread may not have been Wonderbread, but it sure looked like it. I wouldn't give it to a dog, because dogs deserve good food. If you can't get decent bread, then don't serve bread. May they flourish and get better. read more

Okay, I first tried this BBQ restaurant a couple of weeks after the grand opening...not so good!! I gave it another shot with my entire family months later...really...really...bad.. Now, I've been in the hospitality industry for over 20 plus years.. Done everything from bus boy to general manager...I know it takes time to iron out the wrinkles in a budding business.... Yesterday was the clincher... We ordered what's called the platter.. Half a chicken with fries... Ordered to go and the person on the phone said 5 minutes and it would be ready to go.. Got my order after several minutes .. Opened the box at home ( literally 5 minutes from the restaurant) The BBQ chicken was cold....and NOT fully cooked--fries were undercooked as well.... I'd like to start by saying before I get into the real issue that the bartender that was there was absolutely awful to her employees and customers sitting at the bar. she was snapping at people and being just plain rude. We walked in the front door and waited to be greeted, a girl came up told us to find a table we liked and she would be there to give us menus and another server would be around to get us started in ordering. we waited 20 minutes to just get menus and drinks ordered, another 20 minutes for the drinks and Another 15 minutes to even order food. the original girl that had sat us down came back multiple times to check on us and make sure we were taken care of and every time she stopped we needed something else. She was not our waitress but could clearly see we were being ignored, it was pretty obvious, but I did not get her name.
