DO NOT GO HERE. This is NOT the canyon that you remember. They now have two different prices between the kiosk and the physical overhead menu. The difference is 30-40% between the two (kiosk is more expensive). And even their normal menu prices are 2-3X what they were just a couple years ago. Also their large pies are now half the size of what they were just 2 years ago. TLDR; This new Canyon is not what you remember. You will over pay by double for sub par pies. I basically live across the street and for a year and a half I was religiously grabbing food here 1 or 2 times a week because its close and cheap. But after my experience last night with one of the owners I will never go back! I have never been so enraged by an owners disrespect that I just had to write this review. Because I am there so often I usually get to know the staff even though there was obviously a high turn over rate for employees. That brings me to my friend who is a disabled veteran. I know he worked hard at this place because not only did I hear about it but I also saw it for myself because I live so close by and walk past canyon multiple times every day. I havent seen my friend recently, so I asked the man working the counter last night (someone that I know to be one of the owners) where my friend has been. He couldve left it at "no, he no longer works here" however he continues and says "we cleaned house at the start of the year because some people werent doing their job". This owner has missed pay days because he decided to blow his money frivolously, whether it was on an expensive trip for himself or on plastic storage bins that the business didnt really need. There has been times canyon has been closed because the owner didnt order enough cheese. The owners cant even afford rent on this space sometimes because of poor business practices. Oh and lets not forget why they had to shut down last spring due to at least 12 health code violations! This is information I have gathered from MULTIPLE employees over the last year and a half and I am beyond disgusted by the lack of respect this owner has for his employees. This owner had the audacity to place blame on a disabled veteran like that when I know damn well that he is the lazy waste of space and the real reason canyon is failing. Canyon is a local staple, and the community is greatly divided on whether it is the best pizza in town or if it will give you uncontrollable diarrhea. Most people agree on the diarrhea, and the "best pizza in town" vastly depends on what you buy and if it happens to be a day when the workers care. Some of their specialty pizzas and their cheesy breads can be really fantastic, and their weekday deals are the best prices in town. Their standard pizzas (pepperoni, sausage, etc) are definitely ok, but be ready for an ocean of grease and to feel physically ill afterwards. I think their sausage is the best topping I've tried, and a basic sausage pizza absolutely soaked in ranch is a guilty pleasure that is hard to beat. Ok all that said, their workers really could not care less if you fell over and died in their restaurant. Best to keep orders simple, don't ask for anything special, and in general don't look too happy when you go in. I'm a pizza snob and also have some digestive issues so canyon is not my favorite pizza in town. It's 100% college kid pizza, best when drunk, and doesn't ruin your bank account. They do have good deals on pizza but every single time I eat it I regret wasting calories on it. I could've had something so much better! Aside from my personal preference of not eating pizza that tastes like plastic, we have had a lot (a LOT) of issues with canyon messing up orders. They forget toppings, only give you 3 pepperonis on a large pizza, stuff like that that can really ruin a fun time. My friend ordered a cheese pizza once and got it home to realize they didn't put any cheese on it. What ?! It was wild, so definitely inspect the pizzas before you walk out to make sure it's what you ordered! I will say, the cheesy bread is alright (still not my favorite but better than the pizza itself). And the one time I had to pick up a very large order and only one guy was working, he still offered to help me get it to the car when he also had a lot of other things going on. Let's be honest here, while I doubt Canyon pizza has entered the realm of great pizza in last 20 years, there are 3 upsides... (1) It is located right smack dab in the middle of Beaver Canyon. IOt doesn't matter if you're coming from a downtown frat party, an apartment party, or well, any of the many bars. It always is either on your stumble 'home' or a short diversion of the path. (2) Unlike many corporate eateries, it's open until 3:45 am. So, whether you're one of the many tossed out by the bar at 2 am or from the frat party at 3 am...it's still open. (3) Its pepperoni rolls are made from more or less rolled up pepperoni pizzas. Its calzones? Take a pizza, fold it over and pinch. Seriously while it might take a spider monkey to execute their menu, it works. Keep two things in mind. The first is that there is something special about a guy who stays up until 3 am and then some. Second, is that bless his heart, no place else is open and able to feed the highly drunken masses. Beggars are not choosers. And I must admit, I never had a slice of Canyon Pizza while 100% sober. I was there during its inception years. They literally had no storefront. It was a hole in a wall, you gave it cash, it gave you pizza slices on white paper plates. This is 100% poor college kid pizza. I paid $10 extra bucks for 3 toppings on a plain cheese pizza and got very scarce toppings. Let me paint a quick picture for you. We had just left Insomnia Cookies and have been turned away because they had too much demand and didn't want to sell the remaining cookies this early in the night. It was 11 p.m. and I and II college-age buddies had the munchies. We had eaten a full dinner at Otto's two hours prior. One of my friends had the brilliant idea to go to Canyon Pizza. He told us it was the cheapest place around and you can get a ton of food for little to no cost. We were excited to try the slices, but quickly realized this was not a good idea. After my first bite I knew the only value here came to those that were trying to sober up in the middle of the night. This could be quite possibly the worst pizza I've ever had in my life. Because I knew my buddies had mentioned they like this place I tried to keep my mouth shut however seconds later when the third member of our party mentioned even being six beers in that he couldn't stomach another bite I knew I was onto something. This pizza was worse than what I would find sitting under a heat lamp at Sheetz. When we look behind the counter at our options the slices look like they've been sitting there for half the day. They were cold, slightly shriveled-up and uninviting. The girl was nice and took our order and then put them in the oven for a minute before sliding them across to us on the counter. We all took bites, we all looked at each other and we all did the same thing: and that was throw them in the trash. The good news is two slices of pizza and more than a half-dozen breadsticks only cost $5 so we didn't feel like we lost too much money. It's hard to believe anybody giving this place a good rating because the pizza was downright unedible. That goes for me being sober, one of my buddies six beers in and another that takes pride in living off fast food like Taco Bell. None of us ate our food. When you get a chance do yourself a favor and take a look at the all so uninviting condiment bar. This includes some ranch that looks like it's been sitting out for three days, marinara sauce and a spicy marinara. There were beautiful stains on the counter and I can imagine the health department wouldn't pass this place. I wouldn't come back but I'm guessing some college students rave about this place because you can get a slice of cheese pizza for a dollar and their form of a breadstick for $0.50. If you're just looking to fill your belly I'm sure you'll do fine. I'm sorry if this review seems negative but the only way people trust you and your reviews is if you tell the truth every time. As soon as biting into it you could tell it was totally raw dough. I called them back and the person answering the phone blamed me for "all the toppings" when you can see in this picture its way too much cheese. I had their $4 combo deal... AMAZING. The place was packed but the line moved quickly. It is known at the spot to get pizza after the bars, parties or just when your craving a slice. Their deal really is great, it consists of any 2 slices with a can of soda and 1 pepperoni roll or 2 cinnamon sticks. They have a condiment section, it has 3 sauces 2 of those being ranch and spicy marinara. They also have the other condiments like red pepper, black pepper, oregano etc. They also ring the gong for every tip they get and the crowd just makes every ring more exciting. First of all, I live in the middle of nowhere, so delivery is a novel thing for me. I thought about ordering at 4:50 and opened up Yelp to see what was near by. Well damn! Yelp has a delivery option. I looked at a few reviews on a bunch of places and all of them had negative things to say about delivery. I thought, well, I'm in no rush, let's give it a try. Soooo, I clicked the "place your order" button and hot damn, the things on their menu on Yelp we're actually the items available to order. (I had super low expectations for this working.) I choose a strombolli and Pepperoni Sticks. I choose cash as an option to pay and put in the address of my hotel and clicked the submit button at 5:05pm. With my continued low expectations I figured something would go wrong. I got comfortable and prepared to wait the 45-60 minutes the Yelp site said the wait would be. The app said to check my email for confirmation, so I did. The email had three links to choose, check order status, reordered, and check order status on Yelp. I chose check order status and it said that my food would be delivered at 5:36. I figured that was wrong didn't even care that it was probably wrong. Low expectations made me chill! (Also, I'm almost never chill, soooooooo.....) So here's the amazing thing. The delivery guy called at 5:30 to confirm my address and said he'd be here in a minute. WHAT? NOOOOO! This process, which is ripe for horror and tears worked AND was ahead of schedule? How does that even happen? I met the guy in the lobby. He was nice, neatly dressed, and clean. (I'm a Mom, these are things that are important to me.) I paid him and headed back to my room for dinner. The Stromboli was HUGE and delicious! I ordered ham and pineapple! It was perfectly cooked and wonderfully messy. The Pepperoni Rolls are huge. I was anticipating something similar to a garlic knots, but they are literally slices of pizza, rolled up. Super delicious and way more food then I was prepared for.... Ladies of Penn State, if everyone on your floor is PMSing, you neeeeeed these pepperoni rolls! $6 for 6! You almost have to. I went for a large buffalo chicken pizza and pepperoni rolls with spicy marinara sauce. Both were SO GOOD. The pepperoni rolls were basically pizza though, lol. The jewel is their 4 Dollar Pizza Deal. 2 slices... ANY Slices, 2 breadsticks, OR a Pepperoni Stix, and a 32 Oz. Fountain Soda. Where else can you get a meal like that for that price? Some negatives... VERY limited seating. Very limited parking. Street only. Sometimes it can get crowded, but they do their best to keep the line moving.
