Great pizza. As a New Yorker it's hard to find places here in state that up to New York level and I would say this is the best I had so far here. Pepperoni slices remind me of Home. Have you ever had somewhere that you loved but considered not leaving a review to keep it a secret? Margarita's Pizza is a small downtown ma and pa dollar-slice-style joint (slices are more than a dollar because it's 2025) that really hit the spot for us. 5/5 Food: the cheese pizza was excellent. I'm not a usually a cheese pizza kind of person, and loved every bite. The meatball parmigiana was good, the meatballs seemed like the real deal, with little bits of fennel in some bites. The cookie was great. 4/5 service: It is NOT a typical restaurant setup. You go to the front and wait for the man and woman to find a break in their cooking to come and help you. We went in person and got a table for 5 with crying hungry kids, and they were kind to us, and helped serve us promptly. As we sat there, person after person came in and seemed to know the owners after repeated purchases. The woman was kind and efficient. Note: no cards for purchases under $10. 4/5: ambiance. For dollar slice places, it is roomier. The setting was clean enough, nothing fancy- red tables with attached benches. I can't wait to go back to Margarita's. The pizza here has always been great, but tonight we got sandwiches and....damn, they were good sandwiches. Old school pizzeria that gets the job done. They make it to order so I'm fine with a little wait time. Loved the chicken noodle soup as well. It was flavorful and tasted homemade and was loaded with chicken. The pesto pizza was good but dripping with grease. It's one of those pizzas you have to go over with a paper towel but it's pretty good if not every day. Overall would recommend for this little college town. read more

We stopped in on a whim while making an unexpected visit to Penn State. The parking was actually fairly close to the facility, so no problems there. When I walked in we were greeted by the owners, who were incredibly friendly. Of course there is no indoor dining due to the pandemic, which wasn't a problem, so we got a pizza to go. Overall, the quality was great and we both really liked this pizza. It has the right amount of crispiness on the crust and the sauce flavor was great. It was a bit closer to a NY style pizza and I was quite shocked to have one of such great quality in this town. I wish we would have ordered something else off the menu to see how good the other items were, but I'd bet they are just as good. I haven't hit every joint in State College, but I would venture a guess this may be the best pizza you'll ever get in this town. Wonderful! read more

A hidden gem, had my first pizza from this establishment today. Called ahead and it was ready to take home promptly. Got the Pesto because my wife likes pesto and I'm glad I did. Light crispy crust , just the right amount of garlic and cheese. I added red pepper flakes because some like it hot! So Good. read more

Old Review but someone deleted my original! Hoping someone sees this and fixes the issue but I doubt it. From my experience and other experiences I am reading about on here there seems to be consistent complaints! 1. Menu prices not matching up with online, paper menu or in store costs. People seem to be over paying depending on what the cashier wants to charge at that point in time. 2. Rude Cashier/Woman behind counter- (multiple stories about her being rude or making rude comments) 3. Pizza quality and consistency is all over the place and not in a good way. 4. My Story- A few years back I came here for a quick bite to eat since according to an article they were battling Canyon Pizza for the best $1 slice in town. However Margarita's Pizza is well over a dollar even before taxes. How can you tout yourself as A DOLLAR SLICE JOINT when your slices are not a dollar!!!!! Not to mention they has the illegal audacity to ask me to pay over $10 minimum to use a DEBIT card! **NO business by law is allowed to FORCE customers to pay a minimum let alone once so high! In the world of better and cheaper technology there is no reason for any business to be using these old card machines. There are cheaper ways for a business to charge cards and one example is Apple Pay** Overall my experience was awful and the woman was every rude. All I wanted were w few slices and a drink which STILL wasn't enough to meet the minimum. (Was I expected to purchase the enter menu!? This was my 2nd time there and I had cheese steak and onion rings. Great sauce, peppers fried onions on a pretty big roll. Would definitely recommend that. First, the folks running this nice, clean, comfortable restaurant - Margarita and Juan - are very friendly, accommodating and likable. Immediate sense of attachment to their customers and a wish to please. Now back to the pizza - it boasts a crust that is firm enough to be able to pick up your slice without having to fold it on itself nor bend back the tip - just crunchy enough and still chewy - perfect! Great food, friendly owners! Ordered a grilled chicken salad, came with fries! Why not cheat a little well worth it. Very fresh and grilled chicken was tender and juicy. They had a disabled young man working at the shoppe, he was so proud to be there, loved to see the kindness the owners were showing to him, he had a great sense of humor too! I'm ashamed that I've lived in State College 12 years and am only now trying this pizza. Born and raised in Queens so automatically a bit of a pizza snob. Walked in and thought "man, this looks AND SMELLS like a NY pizza place". Had a couple sausage slices, definitely did not disappoint. Thin, crispy, foldable crust. The kind you can eat with one hand as you rush to the subway station. Their hours are a little wonky (Monday thru Friday, so there goes my plan to order on Sundays for Giants games) and parking on Beaver Ave might be a bi***, but well worth it. This is one of my favourite pizza places in the country. That says it all. The meat lovers stuffed slice, and the garlic knot thingies, absolutely fantastic. Thankfully they have a lot more than just Margarita Pizza because that's pretty bland in general. If you've ever been to State College, it's picturesque but the city itself seems overrun by towerblocks of student housing, so it's surprising to find such a delicious eatery in the midst of that, yet in the middle of nowhere, PA. Just a few days into my tour, and I'd had a good but troublesome show in Erie PA, an incredible show in Youngstown, a terrible show in Pittsburgh, and a good one in State College with a really nice, intimate atmosphere and crowd. After another night sleeping in the car in Pitt I decided to stay up all night in McDonalds, so by morning I was exhausted and felt like a zombie. In my infinite wisdom, I chose to try out a couple of the local food places that were highly regarded. I am so glad I did! My word was this magnificent! I can't wait to go back to SCPA just to try this slice again! It was not too long of a drive to Williamsport for my next show, so I stopped by before I headed out and picked up a couple of slices. I was really impressed! The Cheese and Pep slice was good but what impressed me was the meat lovers stuffed slice! So greasy and decadent and over the top and filing and cheap and filled with sausage and pepperoni, how could you not love it? The jumbo meat lovers slice was big enough to feed a couple of lions! And it often does.... of the Nittany variety. But definitely try this place. It's hotter than all the Penn State students at a foam party on Halloween. However. the truth is there is no foam party. They all hang out in McDonalds all night. I know. I was there. I saw it with my own 2 slices. So whether you are at Penn State, or in the State Pen, find an excuse to get out of your cage and try a meat lovers stuffed slice from here. Please. Before I get tired of making bad jokes about it. Ranging from pizza slices to buff chicken wraps, margs provides amazing food for a cheap price. The 2 defining traits for this place is amazing family like service and perfectly toasted everything. There is no pizza in State college that has the perfect crunch like margs pizza. Definitely one of the best restaurants to be a regular for. The only downside is the $10 card minimum. read more

For $1.75 a slice, this place has to be great for the deal right? Not really. It tastes worse than almost all of the other pizzas that I've had, even considering the price. People really seem to love the pizza here, from what the reviews say, but I will have to disagree. If you've had real brick oven pizza in New York, deep dish in Chicago, or even California pizza, you'll know that Margarita's does not cut it. I'll even have Costco pizza over this place any day. What could be wrong you may ask. Well to be honest there are two components that ruined it for me. Sadly, there's only 3 components to a slice of cheese: cheese, sauce, dough. The pizza dough at Margarita's wasn't bad, so I won't knock on it. However, it failed miserably in the other two areas. The cheese......WOW, just wow. It honestly tasted like they just dumped a whole lot of packaged grated parmesan cheese onto it and called it a cheese pizza. It was clumpy, flavorless, and the cheese fell apart. It's not like a real slice where the cheese will actually hold together and have some elasticity. None of that here. As far as the pizza sauce is concerned, there was no taste to it. It basically tasted like tangy water with bits of flavorless tomatoes inside. Really not the most ideal pizza I'd want to eat. Sure, you might be intoxicated and would think that this place would be awesome then. I don't even think any amount of alcohol in the world can make the pizza here awesome. read more

That being said, that pizza was pretty good. We got a whole white pesto pizza and also 3 slices of pepperoni by the slice . Both tasted as good or better then any I've gotten here at PSU, but it cost more than anywhere else around here...or anywhere on the east coast... so I guess you get what you pay for. Although this pizza is defiantly not TWICE as good as any around here. :) To me, Faccia Luna is still the best pizza in state college, if you want good pizza and not just quantity of quality. Faccia Luna is def the best around PSU. When I got there, she told me "we only have one size" even though their menu online clearly has 16" and 18" pizzas.. I asked for a pesto pizza and 3 slices of pepperoni I took out a $20 expecting that to be enough since even their large pizza online is $11 and their slices are listed at like $1.50 or something. She gives me a dirty look as I give her the $20 and says its $34.76 or something. That's over $34 for one large pizza and 3 slices of pepperoni (not jumbo slice, just regular slices). I say oh... and then take out my amex. She then makes some comment about how "american express charges her sooooo much in fees..." and I'm thinking to myself, well karma's a bitch because I'm equally as upset that you charge so much for a large pizza, especially when your online menu has prices that do not match what I'm getting charged right now. read more

Caro mio! Cibo fatto con amore! This mom and pop pizza joint serves a little amore with every slice. Not only is their pizza in the running for best in State College, and this is a serious pizza town, but you can't help but want to do business here as the owners love their customers. They greet regulars and new comers alike with a warm smile, friendly conversation and a hot slice. The pesto pizza is one serious pie and may very well be my favorite anywhere. Pesto, tomato, cheese, and crust - why mess with perfection? The pepperoni rolls are also amazing, each one rolled by hand. Give it a try and I know you'll be back for more. Update: Just when I didn't think this place could be any more awesome and adorable, I find out that tons of customers (regulars) eat here on in-store credit! They order a slice or two every time they come in, but don't pay until they've eaten the equivalent of a whole pie. They are trusted to keep track of their own eating habits and to pay up when they have the cash. And to top off it off - the owners charge them as if they purchased a whole pie (not the single slice price). Restaurants like this make me proud to live in State College. The pizza is good, the sauce has a nice tang to it and the toppings were well apportioned (not too heavy but not skimping either). The crust is really good, nice and crispy. We have two gripes with our experience. One, based off the menu our meal should have been about $28, but when we picked up our food it was $40. I did notice the prices in the shop were a couple dollars more than the menu price online, but even the in shop prices didn't amount to $40 with tax. Two, we had to wait for a while once in the shop. They quoted twenty minutes, and we showed up thirty minutes after calling based off other reviewers saying it can take longer. We then waited another 15 minutes. There was no one in the shop and ours was the only visible order they were working on. If they had said forty minutes we would have been fine with that, but it was slightly annoying to be quoted 20 minutes and have it be 45. Good pizza, expensive at $40 for two pizzas but we'll probably give it another shot some time. Edit: Forgot to mention that we tried on multiple occasions to order from here on the weekend but despite being listed as open they were closed. read more
