Great hole in the wall Vietnamese shop. We bought 20 sandwiches to take on a fishing trop.

This place was a random pick since we have a few hours prior to our flight so we decided to rent a car and drive around town for places to eat. This place was the true definition of a hole in the wall place. The food was good. I didn't take pictures of everyone else entree. Overall I had the bun Bo hue. It was good. Decent size. My kids had the banh cuon and pho. The medium pho was only two dollar less than the X-Large pho. So for the kids, it was a no brainer to go with the X-Large pho. The kids like the pho a lot. Their sandwiches were also very affordable and have great portions of meat in them. read more

I love this place! Simple and cozy! I really enjoy eating their com bo luc lac (Shaken beef with red rice)!!! They have really good Vietnamese sandwiches and a whole list of different classic Vietnamese dishes! The service is always top notch! They are very friendly and attentive!!! It's a small spot, so it's not good for big groups, but for a group of 4-6, they can usually accommodate!!! Wonderful for anytime of the day! read more

Food has always been amazing here! My family and I really enjoy their banh mi here, always fresh and delicious . Expect everything on the menu to be good! Owner has always been super sweet to us, she definitely remembers all of her guest. Ordered a banh mi($4.50) with extra meat(+2). Got no extra meat but got charged extra. Service sucks, didn't come back to check on us about the food. The texture of the bread seemed like few days old. During check out told the lady there wasn't extra meat but she want to argue that she did put extra. My mom and I decided to give this place a try since we were both in the mood for vermicelli and pho. At first, I missed the entrance because it looked like some apartments at first glance. The outside is interesting because yes, it's surrounded my apartments, but it's also connected with another business or two, so not too misleading. The inside is nice, clean and cold. We were the only ones inside, so seating was plenty. We got served by an older lady and gentleman. They were both very hospitable and welcoming. We ordered and the food came out super quick. I got the vermicelli bowl with charred pork and egg roll. My mom got the pho soup with a side of egg rolls. They brought out all the greens, bean sprouts and limes for the soup and some lettuce for the egg rolls. Everything tasted great. The meat in my bowl had an amazing flavor and the veggies were cold and fresh. My egg roll was chewy and soggy, not crispy or fresh tasting, so that was pretty disappointing. Ordered a large bun bo hue and banh cuon cha lua nem. For drinks I ordered a ca phe sua da and avocado smoothie. The serving size for the bun bo was very generous, not to mention the broth is extremely flavorful and the best i've tasted in Houston! They gave me a bunch of delicious greens and herbs and it was a great meal You can't go wrong with banh cuon. I especially liked their nuoc mam and the nem chua was a delicious addition to the dish. The coffee was very strong and flavorful. Avocado smoothie was just the right amount of sweetness. Overall experience ordering from here was 5/5 stars. The place is a hole in the wall and part of an apartment complex. I've found a true hidden gem based on other reviews! Everytime I go to Hobby airport, I'm always in search of something to eat before flying out. Finally, this is the answer to my prayers. After pulling up to a building that looks like an outdated apartment with bars on the windows, I knew this would have authentic vietnamese food! Inside was very small and casual, and we knew it was a small family-run business. We were seated immediately and orders were taken. I got the mi quang and my husband got the pho tai. The lady who took our orders and brought our food was a sweet lady who reminded me of my grandma. So the mi quang was AMAZING! Slightly on the sweeter side, however there was a ton of things in it and the flavor was on point. I want it again as I'm writing this review. The pho tai was also really tasty and the broth was cooked to perfection. They also had other vietnamese snacks, desserts and banh for sale up front. I will definitely be back here!! read more

The workers greeted us with menus and served us some waters. The lemonade is sooo good. Great choice for something sweet and refreshing. We ordered the chicken banh mi. It tasted kind of like dried/dehydrated chicken. Not sure how to explain it. But the sandwich was 10/10. Perfect and affordable ($4.50). Iced tea is only 50 cents (WHAT). Its a very light tea. I've always wanted to visit Cao Thang, and was unable to until today. The staff is sweet, the restaurant isn't huge and intimate, and the food is amazing. It reminded me of so many home cooked meals I had with my Vietnamese friends growing up. It's cash only which may be inconvenient for some, but the prices and everything else make up for it. I can give 1000 stars for this place if Yelp lets me! My husband suggested we moved to the apartment complex next door so we can have Cao Thang every day! Lol. I've been here many times but my favorites are Bun Rieu Oc, Hu tieu My Tho, Chao long, Bánh Cuon Cha lua thit nuong, and Com Tam Dac Biet. Second tiers might be Bánh Canh cua, and Mi Quang. But they are all good! I love their extensive menu and the cozy environment here. You can easily see different generations of a family coming here for food, that's how you know the place is good! Just in case you haven't noticed, Cao Thang has 100/100 Health Score and the Owners haven't even claimed this page yet as of 1/3/2020. Sanitary and delicious food- it's what you come here for! Now, the only down side of this place is Cash only. However, the owners are very understanding. During my first pickup for around $20, I was $10 short in cash and the owner lady told me to pay next time! It took me 9 months to come back with my mom (I moved to different city) and paid my dues. They are very very nice people. I will definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu. read more

Ok very confusing to find. Very small inside. Looks like a local favorite busy by 11:10 am. Staff was friendly. Didn't have egg rolls but it was ok. Being nosy it's the pho most was eating. Loaded with fresh ingredients and minimal msg if any. Greens and herbs are well cleaned. Disposable utensils and cups. They're known for their Vietnamese sandwiches and we'll have to try them next! Cash only but def worth the bucks. Noticed they also offer party trays on select menu items. Will have to ask my sister how her shaking beef was. I swung by this "mom and pop"" about an hour before closing totally stoked to eat at a Vietnamese Banh Mi spot with a 4.5 STAR YELP RATING. Upon entering, I could tell they were slightly irritated I was coming in so late so I opted to take my Charcoal Pork Banh Mi and Vietnamese Egg Rolls to go. (I get it. I was in the industry for years.) I tried to show the owners that they had a 4.5 Star Yelp rating (that's a BIG DEAL) but they kept thinking I was trying to order the picture on their Yelp Page. I quickly realized this and gave up. I've seen GMs go to great lengths and stoop to great lows to try and get their restaurant's Yelp rating up, and these guys at Cao boasting a 4.5 don't even seem to know about it. Too funny. The food was delicious. Definitely a "top tier" Banh Mi hookup. There are many in town, most are good and all are at least okay, but this place is definitely exceptional. That is all. read more

I came in the other day and today and both times have been really good. They're very very nice. The food is always good. The prices are always great. They recently went up in price (who hasn't now and it's totally understandable with them being a small business) but the prices are still great! I love this place so much. One of my absolute favorite places in Houston. Not just in the south east. Definitely worth it. I brought my grandma one of the pork special banh mi and now she's saying she wants me to pick one up for my grandpa later when he gets off of work. She at the whole thing and only spoke twice to say "que riquísimo!" I was half way done with mine, I look over at her and she's wiping her face done with her sandwich. It's really good. read more

Scary looking parking lot strewn with potholes, cigarette butts, and all manner of weeds busting through older gravel. The building itself looks like it has just as much deferred maintenance as the parking lot. Heck the restaurant has an address with an apartment number! By the time I walked-up the steps (not all of which were the same height), my expectations were shot. But once I stepped in, my hopes were revived. The place looked legit since most of the tables already had seated patrons slurping their various noodle soup dishes. Forget the fact that it's short ceilings gives you a bit of claustrophobia until you sit. Overlook the to-go food counter and small/converted ordering window that's typical of older mom-and-pop shops. Nevermind how the place smelled like it was there since the Vietnam War. Rather, concentrate on the menu - the sheer number of items they have. I had to try a few: Banh mi: 5/5. I ordered the pate banh mi. It came with lots of veggies. The bread was perfect - soft and pillowy inside, and crunchy on the outside, but not so hard that your gums are threatened from being sliced up... Oh, and the pate.. I gotta say it was weird to experience it dripping and runny, but it tasted surprisingly awesome! Wonton noodle soup: 4/5: The broth was good, and the unexpected ingredients were a nice touch. I was craving veggies, and they provide lots of them, plus plentiful amount of egg noodles. It's also not often you'll have all sorts of other seafood to accompany a wonton noodle soup bowl.. But in my case: squid and shrimp. Mi Quang: 5/5: I don't think I've experienced better Mi Quang in Houston.. It had a bit of a stinky smell at first, but that just meant it was really authentic! the pork cake that is in the soup was super flavorful! There were a ton of other items on the menu that I wanted to try.. which brings me to the next point: it was very well thought out. Usually when restaurants offer so many dishes, they offer a multi-page book that forces you to fumble around the pages trying to decide. At Cao Thang, if you unfold it, it's essentially a 1-page menu front-and-back, which makes it easier to order. Verdict! 2 thumbs up, but a toss-up between sandwich and mi quang. I had to deduct a star because of the environment and the fact that the location is way out in the boonies, but otherwise the service was pleasant, food was awesome, and huge menu was easy to navigate. read more
