Basic, no frills eatery. Nice little stop before heading to the state parks down Cape Arago Hwy. We stopped in for a late breakfast. It was a little cold inside, so I'm glad we had our jackets. The lady working was nice and prompt at taking our orders. Prices were fair. Eggs cooked to perfection. I'm not a huge hash brown fan, but they were good. Gravy was a big disappointment. Watery and lacked flavor. (Tasted like package gravy). Coffee was good. Service was wonderful. Only complaint really was the temperature in room and gravy. We'll definitely come back. read more

I have provided past reviews of other restaurants when there is something great to report. This one is my first bad report. On Mon July 20, 2 of my motorcycle friends and I after visiting Shore Acres stopped at Cape Arego Cafe for a late lunch. We were met by female server who told us that we had 30 min until the grill closed. She did not look happy. On the menu were listed several items with no discussion of any of them. I ordered the French Dip. It was served to me with cheese melted into the meat so I could not remove it. Had I known that cheese was part of the meal, I would not have ordered it as I am allergic. The server was not happy when I called this to her attention. She returned in 10-15 min with another plate, no cheese. The sandwich itself was barely passable but I ate it as I was hungry. When the bill came, we were confused as it looked like we were overcharged for our combined meals. Upon discussion with the server, it became clear that I was charged for both plates of the French Dip. I asked why this happened and all she kept saying was that it was not her fault. I asked whose fault was it and she did not respond. I asked to see the cook who said that adding cheese is what all the restaurants were doing now with French dips. First time I heard of that one. He wouldn't budge. All he said was that's the way it is. At no time did the server tell me that she would have to charge me for the second plate. I would have declined. This was poor service, lousy attitudes, and food (at least this meal) that was not great. Early on, I felt badly about asking it they could remake the sandwich and apologized for the inconvenience multiple times. Indeed, I was planning to leave a large tip for that inconvenience. I can say that I can't remember ever not leaving a tip until this time. My buddies were also appalled at how this came down. I did not leave a tip for them but I'll leave one for you. Tried this place based on reviews and a recommendation. Service was ok. Food was very disappointing. Crab omelette had almost no crab in it. Surprising when the ocean is so close. Also had a taco omelette. No taco flavor, no salsa or guacamole, and tasted like a frozen hamburger patty broke up in pieces. Each had lattes since they advertise they have espresso. My caramel latte was the WORST coffee if ever had and couldn't drink it. Tasted burnt. Extremely disappointed and won't be returning on our next trip to the area. The 2 stars were for no wait and ok service. Zero stars for food and coffee. If you want a coffee I suggest the Davey Jones coffee drive through across the street. Much much better! read more

I have been wanting to try this place for the last year because it is right at the bottom of my street.. i've tried everything else in the area and this was the last place I hadn't tried, and after reading some of the reviews and hearing reviews from some friends, it sounded worth a try. Unfortunately, it wasn't that good . I got a Denver omelette, which seemed like it was microwaved. 10 minutes after it came to my table it was still steaming and piping hot... just a sprinkle of cheese on top. The ham was really cheap and had no flavor. The ratio of peppers and onions was minimal, and just the overall flavor of the omelette itself sucked. The English muffin was kind of weird. It was like two burger bun bottoms really had nothing to do with English muffin was way too light. The one thing I was hoping would be the one redeeming factor was just kind of weird.. chunks of potato and shredded potato as hashbrowns. The chunky potatoes were slightly undercooked and totally underseasoned. The shredded potato was completely overcooked and so crispy you could choke on it and possibly die. All in all, I would say skip this place because it just if they're going to throw your omelette in the microwave, then you could definitely do better just staying at home and cooking for yourself . The owner of this place is so wonderful, respectful, and friendly. The ambiance is very chill and the locals that are there are very welcoming and nice. The food is great I'm there in the mornings for my coffee and toast. I would definitely recommend this place for the tourist that visit. read more

This should be voted as one of best hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The service and food were phenomenal! One person manging the coffee bar area, hosting, cleaning the tables, serving, drive-thru, and still with the most friendly smile. I just wish i remember his name. I don't know if he is the owner or an employee. If his an employee, he deserves a big fat raise!!! I ordered the country omelet. This was probably one of the best homemade country gravy I've tasted in a long time. It definitely tasted fresh and from scratch. I certainly didn't leave any leftovers. My wife got sick, and I probably saved myself only because I refused to eat the "homemade" corned beef hash that contained this 3 inch wide blob of fat. We decided to try this little place today! I'm really glad we did. It's a small unassuming diner. We both had the homemade clam chowder. It was really good. I was so glad we decided to stop here for coffee and food. This establishment is conveniently located ~10 minutes from the state parks. They offer coffee drinks, breakfast (served all day), and lunch. We ordered the chicken fried steak, fish (lingcod) and chips, and a cappuccino. The cappuccino was delightful with the whipped cream on top (but it didn't taste like a typical cappuccino in my opinion). The fish was tasty and fresh. The fries were great, nicely battered. The chicken fried steak was freshly fried, but didn't taste homemade. The hash brown and eggs were typical diner style fare. Overall, I would recommend this place is you are in the Charleston area. It was our first time here and I was joking about having the eggs benedict when we started to order, its not on the menu. The waitress asked me if I wanted the regular, if not she would have to check to see if they still had the crab or some other benedict.... They have daily specials that we were unaware of and not on any menu we saw. They were out of the two others but still had the regular benedict available, it was one of the best I have had. We will definitely be back and hopefully we can try other menu items but it's hard not to go just for the benedict since we know its delicious. The latter was decent, and the bun was on a nice toasted roll and looked presentable. However, I have no idea what made up the bulk of the "hamburger", but it certainly was not ground beef. It was a flat, processed patty that looked, smelled and tasted terrible. It had a pasty texture and I would hesitate to guess what the primary ingredient was. Save yourself a headache and an off-putting experience. I've eaten better food from gas station fast food grills. My husband liked his fish sandwich. we had a party of five. I took my daughter to the restroom and while we were in the restroom the server took the order for the table . They started that food and then took mine and my daughter's order after we came back to the table. My daughter had to wait an additional 10 minutes to get her food after everybody else started eating. We had to remind her several times to bring a soft drink that was ordered. They charge a dollar fifty for a side of barbecue sauce. The food was not great at all. The cod sandwich was terrible. Bacon was so tough like it been cooked last week it was gross. To top it all off there's no itemized receipt at the end you're just told a number that you have to pay and how dare you ever question what you're being charged because then you're in for a fight. I had the audacity to ask for an itemized receipt because I was really confused about the total. My confusion translated into that person working yelling at me telling me I was complaining which I wasn't I was just trying to figure out what I was being charged for. And she refused to give me a receipt so I walked out of there not even knowing what my charge actually was. I ended up having to call my credit card company just to find out what I was charged. If you like mediocre food, terrible service bordering on hostile, than this is your place. read more

Terrible coffee. Rude management. We stopped for coffee and a latte. The latte was drinkable, but the coffee was lukewarm and essentially water. I asked for 1/2 and 1/2 and the lady poured cold milk on top. When my husband tried the coffee in the car, he said it was just water (he's not picky). I walked the coffee back inside and asked to exchange it for another latte. She refused and said she does not take returns once you've left the restaurant and would charge me for another latte. This is a great find. Fresh food, good flavor and a great atmosphere. Have the Mango Salsa. It is amazing.
