This just became my favorite pizza restaurant in Lubbock. Really great pizza just a mile or so from Campus. Great beer selection as well.

This is one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. The crust is especially amazing! I wish I lived closer to this great spot. There was plenty of open seating on a weeknight and we had great service. If I'm ever back in Lubbock I will definitely come back to Capitol Pizza. read more

Best pizza in Lubbock. I tend to get several different pizzas, but my one constant is the mango habanero sauce. Their dessert pizzas are good too, and their beer selection is decent, especially for a pizza place. I've taken several people here from out of town for dinner, and they've all left quite happy. I wouldn't call it inexpensive pizza, but seeing as even delivery pizzas are expensive, this place is far more worth the price. Pros: Exquisite pizza, friendly staff, and good beer. I don't mess with any other pizza places anymore. Cons: This is not a big restaurant, so there can be a long wait, and when it is crowded, it is quite loud. You're also on your own to set up the table arrangement to suit your group, as there isn't a hostess to do it for you. I am so angry. The side salad I purchased for almost $6 was about 7 leaves of lettuce. No dressing. It took an hour to get here, which I honestly wasn't upset about. I give Capital Pizza a three star rating due to the fact that the first time I went ordered the Margherita Pizza and my boyfriend ordered what would be considered the 'Meat Lovers'. The toppings and crust were delicious, but the type of cheese used is cheap mozzarella, throwing off the whole taste of the pizza. Neither us wanted to finish the pizza because the cheese was gross, we ended up tossing out basically a whole pizza. A few weeks later I went back again to give it a second chance because I heard from a friend you could order real mozzarella cheese on the pizza, for a few dollars extra so that's exactly what I did with the same type of pizzas. Here's the catch, we got the pizza and the mozzarella that I had paid extra for was little to none on the pizza, we were literally eating pizza crust, tomato sauce and occasionally a topping here and there. It was DISGUSTING. After two chances, I give up. I can't afford a third. So if you're picky & want good quality toppings, try else where. read more

I ate here with my daughter tonight. Pizza is great. If I was basing my review solely on the quality of food and the restaurant itself, it would have received 5 stars, easy. The service wasn't terrible but it was.... well, it was just weird. I have one word to describe our server, Spence; and that is aloof. He didn't look at us while taking our order, he was staring out the window instead. He certainly wasn't excited to see us, at all. Neither the bar or restaurant area were particularly busy. We were told to sit where we pleased so we ate in the restaurant area. Other than a ten-top finishing up, we were alone in the restaurant. Maybe Spence doesn't try very hard because he's tired of dealing with area university students, I don't know. We clearly didn't fit that profile as we were sober, well-dressed and both outside of typical university ages... as was Spence. Moral of the story, it's worth ordering from Capital Pizza. If it could have zero stars... I would give zero. Yelp, the sign on the building, AND Google all say this place is open until 2 AM. When walking up to the restaurant, the 10 people inside all stared dead eyed at us and continued blankly staring when we walked in ... the interaction went word for word like this: Employee- Are you guys here for food? The kitchen closed at 11... My husband- We'll I like beer too... Employee- We'll the bar is about to close too. Sorry. Keep in mind we are normal looking people...late 20s, dressed normally, and completely sober. There was no reason to turn us away and blatantly lie to us. Service was slow, but friendly enough once we were acknowledged. The pizza was quite large, but the crust is overwhelming and I left most of it on my plate. Generous with toppings, but the mozzarella is tasteless and the pizza was soggy/undercooked in the center. Side salad and other ingredients were very fresh. Not bad, but Lubbock in general needs to expect a LOT more from its restaurants and its food. A bit greasy, but in my opinion, the best thick crust pizza in Lubbock. They've got a decent toppings selection (covers the basics of mushrooms, peppers, meats, cheeses) as well as a really good cheese bread (which comes in a huge portion, be forewarned). The service is good, and I sometimes like just going there for a drink - their porch is a nice place to smoke and enjoy a beer (they've got a good selection and even some on tap). It can get a bit loud on sports gamedays since they play sports on TV most of the time, but overall a fun and chill atmosphere. The important thing is, the pizza is great. Try the Thai Curry (not really curry but quite delicious) if you're feeling like ordering a specialty pizza! Otherwise, a simple pepperoni will satisfy. read more

I have always loved their pizza. Something was off this time. They were folding pizza boxes at the bar off the floor and putting them on the clean plates. They also had waitress drinks next to the clean plates. I understand it's a very Tech driven restaurant but not the best service either. This hidden gem is the best pizza I've had in awhile. And I used to work with pizza daily. This place, we've decided, is our new hang out joint for good beer and pizza. Their atmosphere is cozy, charming and incredibly clean, especially with all the antiques and art that covers the walls. So many TV's there too so you're bound to catch your favorite game! Their beer selection is humongous but almost all in bottles so if that makes a difference for you than fine, but it doesn't matter much to me. Their menu consists of a couple apps, some specialty pizzas and a large create your own section. Im not usually a big fan of specialty pizzas but "the big one" is fantastic. Personally, my favorite one to get is the small with BBQ sauce (highly recommended) with the pulled pork, red onions, cilantro and fresh mozzarella. Its to die for! For the appetizer we got the cheese bread and its huge, about the size if a small pizza. I recommend it highly, but if you're planning on getting it don't order too much pizza or simply get a box like we did! Its great as leftovers too!! A+ read more

This was starting to be one of my favorite places. I had been here 3 times in the last two weeks but that's all changed now. We went in on Sunday night asked what specials they had and was told 3 dollar you call it's. I was like that sounds good so we ordered some bloody Mary's and margaritas. When we got the tab we got charged 10.50 per margarita and 4.00 for each Bloody Mary. I told the waiter and he said the special was for bottom shelf only. I was like I told you we wanted the special and he was like there is nothing he can do. So I paid the tab and went in when the owner was there and he basically told us to go to hell. Shout out to the TTU law clinic professor who saw me sitting in the hallway reading and asked if I wanted some leftover pizza from Capital Pizza. I was hungry, low on groceries, low on funds, and actually trying to figure out what my 2.75 in dimes and nickles could get me from the snack machine. I think I had a slice of Supreme and a slice of Buffalo Chicken. The Supreme had the proper balance and even distribution of veggie and meat topping. Flavor was okay but still better than chain pizza. The Buffalo Chicken was too spicy for me, as usual, but had great Buffalo sauce flavor melded into the cheese and hearty chunks of real chicken. If you can handle the kick then I think you will truly enjoy it. Really loved munching on the crust. read more

This is my favorite pizza place in Lubbock! I've tried all of their pizzas at this point-- my two favorites are the Capital Carnivore and the Big One. The Carnivore has tons of meat and will satisfy any meat lover. The Chicken Curry Thai Basil is also really good, but it's different than a traditional pizza. This place also has a great beer list. I seriously don't know what they put in their pizzas but it's exceptionally good that I can almost account every pizza place that I've been to in Houston and say this by far comes out on top. Me, the bf and his roommates came here and ordered the Buffalo Chicken and Thai Curry Chicken Basil specialty pizzas. I didn't favour the Buffalo Chicken as much as I wanted to because I just wasn't a fan of the buffalo flavouring but the Thai Curry Chicken Basil, oh goodness, it was like orgasm in my mouth! It was so good within each bite that I my heart skipped a beat each time I bit into a slice. And the crust? Oh my lord, it was so fluffy and good that I didn't need any other sauce to dip it in like the other pizzas :) read more

So I've been to this place several times now since relocating to Lubbock; I wish I could give them more stars but the pizza never fails to disappoint. I'm not sure what type of oven they use but every time my pizza arrives at the table it is over-cooked and the crust is burnt. The meat and vegetable toppings are OK, but the burnt crust is off-putting from both a flavor and visual standpoint and the quality of their cheese reminds me of the cheese a former employer used to use (it was 50% vegetable oil with 'skim milk' listed as the 4th or 5th ingredient on the packaging). Their meatball sub is merely ok but the BLT does come with plenty of bacon. Service is 'meh' at best. Again, I think they're capable of producing a very good pie; as a 10-year veteran of both mom and pop pizza joints as well as major chain restaurants, I know how to not burn a pizza. I'm in no way a pizza snob, but a burnt pizza tells me that the proprietor simply doesn't care about their product (if they did, they wouldn't serve it IMO); from the pictures other patrons have posted along with their reviews, they all share my sentiments. I hope they take this review to heart since I live right down the road and within walking distance to their establishment; I'd like to make this our neighborhood hangout, but not until they stop overcooking their pies. Maybe they should stop trying to emulate Beau Jo's mountain pies from Colorado and simply focus on serving a quality pizza. Bummer! read more

AMAZING!! This place is a must-eat in Lubbock. The pizza is delicious and cheese bread is fantastic. We ordered a pizza with Alfredo sauce, Canadian bacon, pineapple, and bacon. Holy batpig, it was tasty. The ingredients are all fresh, and the cheeses are mouth watering! Capital pizza certainly doesn't disappoint with their bar! Ordered a Long Island and was super pleased. Awesome pizza, crust, cheese, and toppings choices. Went for a fundraiser and it was a bit crowded/disorganized service, but the servers didn't lose their cool. They have good drink deals and my boyfriend (somewhat of a beer snob) was pleased with the beer offerings. Ordered a pizza with pepperoni and ricotta and incorrectly assumed that the normal cheese would also be on the pizza (it came out with only ricotta as the cheese).
