Updating to five stars for what it is... a classic dive bar…read more We love hob, it's full of locals, it's always a great time. The food hits after a beer or two and they have a decent happy hour menu. Lots of beers on tap, good mixed drinks and if you dare, the shot wheel.

Heart of Bordentown! How wonderful, how tragic, how appropriate. If you grew up in America, you already know this place, even if you have never set foot in New Jersey. Sticky floors. PBRs at three dollars a pop. A shot roulette wheel. The smell of old beer and older hope. And a menu that could be printed on the back of a cocktail napkin: wings, burgers, fried somethings that used to be animals. Tofu even makes a cursory appearance. I ordered a whiskey and ginger ale, and they did not ask me what kind of whiskey, either because there was not a choice, or because in a place like this, the existential choice is always "yes." It came in a pint glass. Nine dollars. Heavy pour. Good enough for the likes of me. My wife asked for a vodka soda. "Is Tito's okay?" the bartender asked, displaying more concern for the quality of her spirit than the average congressman shows for the quality of his constituents. The regulars were loud, but they were not mean about it. A group of young women celebrated a birthday. The entire bar sang "Happy Birthday" with the ragged sincerity of a people who have seen too many Tuesdays. It was beautiful in a slightly tragic, terribly American way. In the midst of our singing, one bartender, still seemingly a bbit green behind the ears, forgot how to make a Malibu Bay Breeze. Cannot blame him. Our rendition was raucous. Or maybe he just was not built for tropical cocktails. In any case, what is remembered about a drink like that is not the technique, but the intention. Listen: if you come here, order a beer. Or a simple mixed drink, no more than two ingredients, no more dreams than that. Stick to the wings or the burger. Nachos if you're feeling adventerous. Expect nothing fancy, and you might just find yourself accidentally, briefly, happy.

I haven't been to this site since it was Dublin Square which was a long time ago. Some of the layout changed. They no longer have the old bar separated from the dining area. Callie was our server and did a great job. I was there with some friends from SC. We started by ordering the large pretzel which comes out on a pretzel hanger along with some beer cheese for dipping. They also use that hanger for bacon. The pretzel was enough for 4 of us. I ordered the wings and selected Nashville Hot and Hog Sauce as my flavors. They claim they sell by the pound ($15.50) but it ends up being 8 wings. If you want to split flavors, they make it dry and bring the sauce on the side for dipping. Luckily the Nashville Hot is a dry rub. It was very good and not too spicy. The Hog Sauce is a combo of Buffalo and Garlic which was excellent. The wings themselves were plump, juicy and crispy. Five stars. Plenty of parking. Some tables available outside for outdoor seating when it ever gets nice in NJ. Bathrooms were very clean. You may find some little pink pigs around. Not sure if they're complimentary, but my wife took the one that was next to our table. My only complaint is they have too many of their draft beers designated for only 10 oz pours even with low ABV. I had a Kane Head High which was in a 16 oz glass. They also use OpenTable for reservations which I used as well.

Nestled on the cutesy street of Farnsworth Ave., with a casual exterior and outdoor patio, this pub's best kept secret is that it offers some of the best food in town! The menu has options for everyone, with big flavor, variety, and drinks with flare. The vibe is casual, there is indoor seating upstairs and downstairs, with outdoor seating available on the main level, and two full service bars! A good place to bring a group of 6 or less, perfect for a meet up with friends and great for those who love a good "drinks and tapas" style dinner! The food portions are a good size and shareable. Cheesesteak egg rolls, jalapeño egg rolls, lobster bao buns, and the shrimp caesar salad with their homemade dressing are must orders! The food always arrives to your table hot, fresh and absolutely savory. Each time we've visited the service has been attentive and timely with friendly staff, who offer tasty suggestions. If you're looking for a slightly elevated drink experience when it comes to cocktails, the bartenders here have it! Well blended, you can taste the "hand crafted" in your beverage and they are truly layered with the flavors listed on the menu. While parking is free, it is limited and tucked away behind the building. Street parking and an additional parking lot is available down the block. There are many small cafes, restaurants and other unique businesses nearby to enjoy as well. Enjoy friends!

The only reason I didn't make this a five out of five was that I felt that it was very limited on the happy hour menu and wind up spending a lot more than I anticipated because we ordered off the regular menu in addition to just the hot wings and I'm not even sure if I drink choices. The beers were on the happy hour unless it was like two or three on tap so that was a little bothersome for me. It was hard to sort of follow what is and what Isn't but I think we'll give it a fair. Try one another time when Fifa games are not going on. We did order wings off the happy hour menu, but then from the regular menu I had the sesame tuna tacos instead of fries which I hate I had brussels sprouts but again there's an up charge to do that. My wife had the half cheesesteak she added sautéed peppers she added a chipotle. Aïoli and she also swapped out tater tots for whatever the fried choice was but everything was at an up charge. Food was tasty was good but again like I said I was coming for happy hour and I felt like I wasn't happy with the hour.

I learned later that this restaurant has been around since the early to mid 1900's. Plenty of parking in a large open lot. The place is very large and has one of the longest bars I've seen. The wood is very dark and you can see the chefs cooking over the hearth. They don't take reservations and won't see you until your entire party is there. One of the things I liked for our party of 10 was they had no problems with seating as they also have many large round tables. For mixed drinks, they make them pretty big and potent. For my martini, they sent back an extra glass. They also had great bleu cheese stuffed olives. We ordered onion rings (8 large to an order) and fried zucchini. The onion ring I had was pretty good. I didn't have the fried zucchini but heard it was also pretty good. Other than the light fare items, all dinners come with their salad bar which has both iceberg lettuce and Caesar Salad along with many fixings as well as cheeses and bread. I had the Baked Seafood Platter which came with scallops, shrimp, Clam Casino (without the shell), Maryland crab cake and a small lobster tail for $49.99. My wife had the baked chicken breast which she said was quite dry. The dining area is quite large and reminds me of the restaurants at a casino. Some in our group said it reminds them of Medieval Times due to the dark wood vibe. While I thought it was a bit pricey, I would still come back and try their signature steaks or prime rib.

Also, they won't stay you until the entire party is there. We waited at the bar for everyone to arrive, where one cocktail was more than enough for me. You definitely get your money's worth, and you should not drive afterward. (I did not.)

I didn't have the pleasure of visiting Dog & Bull before it was renovated, but I visited last night and can't wait to return. My friend and I made a reservation for 5:30 PM (just in case) as we read online that reservations were recommended, but I don't actually think one was needed. When you walk in, it's bright and inviting. The garage doors throughout the property provide a ton of natural light. I can only imagine how lovely it is when they're open in the summer. Additionally, the outside has a nice patio and an area with a fire pit. The restaurant's layout was designed wonderfully! Our server was Alex (Alexandria) and she was the epitome of exceptional service. She checked in on us multiple times and always had a smile on her face when she came over. We really appreciated having her. The baked feta and hummus appetizer was just as delicious as it looks in the photo. The thick pieces of garlic, roasted red peppers, olives, cucumbers and pita bread triangles paired so nicely with the feta. The hummus was warmed up and it looked like the kitchen staff may have torched the top of it. It was phenomenal. Boy do I have notes on the lentil burger - it was 10/10!! I'm not a big bean person and even though this burger had beans in it, it somehow tasted like an actual beef burger. Sounds crazy, I know, but trust and believe it was pure excellence. I added cheddar for an additional charge and upgraded my regular fries to garlic parm fries. Finally, the caramel apple bread pudding... oh my oh my! What a DELIGHT. The top was piled high with a big scoop of frosting. Yes, you read that right. Frosting! Not ice cream! You can taste the apple pieces in the bread pudding. My friend and I wanted to order it twice. It was THAT good. It was easy to make my way to Dog & Bull from Center City thanks to the Septa station located directly behind the restaurant. Street parking also wasn't too bad yesterday. I absolutely loved the experience I had here and will be stopping by again this summer! Thanks, Dog & Bull!
