This is a great place to stop to get a sandwich and a smoothie. The coffee is excellent also. What really makes this place is the plug ins for your ipad or phone. Nobody seems to mind if you hang around long to escape the heat and there is a cosmopolitan atmosphere to the place. It was great when I was cycling and needed to recharge (body and phone). Having been a barista for years, I am a self-proclaimed coffee snob, and I'd say the coffee here is decent. Nothing to shout about, but good if all you really want is a hot cuppa joe. Got a latte once, doubt I ever will again. Milk wasn't texture, but rather foamy. Lacking in flavor. Disappointing. Haven't had any treats yet, so can't comment on those. read more

Worst experience ever!!!! I ask for a lox bagel and a quiche for my husband.... After we place the order she told me that she didn't have the bagel I ask for and if I want my lox in a cinnamon raisins.... REALLY!!!?!?!? So I said no and she gave it in a plain white bread.... The sandwich was small and not worth the amount I paid for and the quiche was cold, like eating quiche ice cream!!! And to finish it my lox sandwich had dirt on it....... Breakfast sandwich was made to order and very good. Service was polite, but a little long. Not a problem. Howeverrrrrrrrr, the French Roast coffee was very disappointing. I'm a bit of a coffee snob and love a deep, dark roast. This almost tasted like water or perhaps halfway there. End on a positive note - very good atmosphere. read more

Unfailingly friendly and warm, really rich and yummy Senate Blend coffee, and the lattes, capuccinos, drinks are well produced. But oh my gawd, how wonderful it is on the sadly rare occasion I get a staff member with listening skills who does not ask me to repeat various parts of my order 3-4 times (extremely worthwhile when there are 8-15 people behind me), and is able to pull my order together in less than 10 minutes. Sometimes the lack of organization and service training (I am not complaining about barista skills, these are happily all good) creates a ridiculous back up and waits greater than 20 minutes. A little investment in service training could push this up to 5 star. read more

I'm a regular at Capitol Grounds. They have good food and a friendly staff (although that wasn't always the case) and the lattes are consistently good. Love the addition of gluten free foods and rice milk for espresso drinks and iced coffees. I'm also a fan of Bob's Senate Blend. They used to have live music on Sundays. That was a nice addition except when the artist used an amp. That place is way too small for that kind of volume, but with that said, I wish they'd bring back live music on occasion. And I'd love for them to stay open later. read more

I had a very bad experience this afternoon. I ordered a cheddar dill bagel with veggie cream cheese toasted. The bagel was burnt unbelievably due to a malfunctioning toaster. I am not sure why they did not anticipate it since it was afternoon. The cashier did offer to make another one but I had ordered the last one of that flavor. He did not offer a refund. I told him I would take it as I had already paid for it. He ended up putting garlic cream cheese rather than veggie cream cheese on it. If that was their veggie cream cheese, don't expect cream cheese with vegetables in it. It was pure garlic. Threw the meal away after one bite. Last time I will go in there. Amy read more

Worst coffee shop I've ever been to. The employees are rude and I have been overcharged several times for simple items. In addition, if you bring your own coffee cup you actually get charged MORE money because they round the size up and charge you the higher price. Overall, all the items are overpriced for the quality. Look elsewhere for coffee. La Brioche and Skinny Pancake are good alternatives. read more

I ordered a skim latte with just a little bit of vanilla flavoring. I got a latte made with whole milk and extra vanilla flavoring. The barista acted annoyed to make me another drink (the drink I ordered in the first place). Free wi-fi is nice and the only thing that may bring me back. read more

Really good coffee and great service. We were passing through town looking for a to go coffee place and I'm glad we stopped here. My husband got a black iced coffee which he said was great, and I got a iced pumpkin latte. I love pumpkin flavored things and found that the pumpkin pie flavoring was superb here. Probably the best pumpkin latte I've ever had. This has just the right amount of spice and didn't taste fake at all. The breakfast and lunch menu looked delicious and we found ourselves wishing we had gone here for breakfast instead of the place up the road. Wish we were local so we could go more often! read more

Bf and I had breakfast and lunch here two days in a row, on two of the most stressful days of my entire life--the 2014 VT Bar Exam. This cafe provided me with exactly the sustenance I needed to take the exam (and ultimately pass!) The coffee was strong and delicious, the egg sandwiches on an english muffin that I got each morning were just right. For lunch I had delicious sandwiches with turkey and lettuce, onion, sprouts, etc. that were pretty big and felt solid and nutritious, and prepared me for my afternoon battles. The wait for food was not long at all, completely reasonable, and I found the cafe atmosphere to be cozy. But this is what really made it a place I would go back to if I ever have to go back to Montpelier: on the first day, they were having some kind of staff picnic and were going to close early, but when we asked a person who we think was the owner if we could still eat our sandwiches outside at the tables, he said of course we could and apologized for the staff member who told us we'd have to leave, adding that customers always come first. And a little bit later, he brought out cookies to take with us. He didn't know that I was 1/4 of the way through a two day journey through hell, but this small thing that he did for us made him seem like an angel to me (and I am really a very unreligious person, but the Bar Exam has a kind of bipolar effect on people). read more
