The bellman at our hotel recommended this spot for brunch/breakfast food after a very lazy Sunday morning start. We were greeted by one of the owners, Dean, who made it his priority to make sure our experience was fantastic. Great family business with terrific breakfast menu, fast service, hot food and coffee. First of all, if you call yourself Capital Pancake, then your pancakes should be good. They are super dry and tasteless. We went on a Sunday morning around 10:30 so yes they were busy. In my opinion a restaurant can only get so busy and if you work there then you should know how to handle it, that is not the case. Food is super over priced for the quality of it. Was really forward to trying the place but....... This place was so mismanaged!!!! Clearly hiring wait staff is extremely difficult no hate on them however when you are short staffed as the manager shouldn't you adjust the way to seat people?????? Nope this jerk was seating guests like tables and tables (we were one of 5) with no wait staff in the room. This poor waitress walked to the floor and was obviously overwhelmed (anyone would've been). Then jerk just stood in the room doing??????? Not running drinks, not greeting guests, not checking on the kitchen staff. Jerk is a bad manager!!!!!!!! After 15 mins we were greeting at our table by reasonably overworked overwhelmed waitress, we placed our drink and food orders. We are here in Williamsburg on spring break and have visited the Capitol Pancake house a couple of times because the food was so good. We had to wait a little bit the first visit because they were so busy but not as long as we expected. The food was very good, especially the French toast. We highly recommend this place to anyone for breakfast. read more

We found this while staying in Williamsburg and decided to try it. The breakfasts are huge and the food is delicious. My dad had the Breakfast Sampler with ham, sausage and bacon, cheese eggs, hash browns and pancakes and he took half home! I had the scrambled eggs, sausage, grits and toast and it was great too! Excellent breakfast and very generous portions. The omelettes were made with real eggs (low cholesterol version avail). The potatoes were not frozen and fried, but from fresh potatoes with a great flavor. The pancakes were fluffy and not too sweet. Nothing special about the grits and stay away from the eggs Benedict. The worst! There's a pancake house on every corner in Williamsburg. You'd think at the very least they'd try given that people can go elsewhere. Then again it's a lot of tourists so why bother. I walked inside and immediately felt like I wanted to sneeze. It smelled old and dusty inside. Our waitress wasn't rude but didn't even try to assist us with anything. She quickly stopped by on a few occasion to see if everything was okay and was already taking a step back toward the kitchen before we even answered. At one point she was gone for 10 minutes and we needed silverware. Someone in my party had to go to another table to grab the needed silverware. Dani's sausages came out 10 minutes after her pancakes. My meat omelet was small, tasted overcooked, barely had any meat and was horrible. The pancakes were slightly burned. $10 for two burned pancakes and a tiny and terrible tasting omelet. Never again... read more

The pancakes were tough, bland and expensive. The service was even worse than the food if that is even possible. Go to one of the other 99 pancake places in Williamsburg. I would recommend Cracker Barrel any day of the week in almost any city and they have one in WB. I really cannot comprehend how they stay in business, but get it...it's a tourist trap. read more

There are 8 or 9 pancake joints within a mile of Colonial Williamsburg and we chose Capitol based on the front desk at our hotel (They also recommended Astronomical). We also found a 10% off coupon - which about 5 places had. Also - most places only do breakfast and lunch hours (6 or 6:30 AM to 2 or maybe 2:30 PM). We did ONE and only ONE pancake breakfast and this one was very, very good. I had a 1/2 a pecan waffle (They offer 1/2 waffles!!!!) and a side of crispy perfect bacon. El kiddo had a single chocolate chip pancake - loaded with chocolate chips. Husband had a "bacon pancake" - a stack of 3 cakes with a single slice of bacon baked in. He would have preferred small pieces of bacon scattered throughout - but the pancake batter itself is EXCELLENT. They KNOW how to do breakfast here - for sure! My husband and 8 year old son came by for breakfast one morning during the end of Spring break and we thought we would stop in before going to Colonial Williamsburg. What a pleasant surprise, it was very close to the historic stie and the food was good. Very few people can go wrong with breakfast and this place seemed to have been around for a while. I had the french toast which was delicous and my son had pancakes which he loved. It has a diner feel but plenty of space. Everyone was very pleasant. All in all it was a great place to stop for breakfast to get real food that was not expensive. We actually wished we had discovered it earlier on our vacation. read more

First time here ordered the chicken and waffles. Not much to brag about, the chicken didn't have too much flavor. Wasn't too impressed with the flavor, don't know if kitchen staff was rushed or that was the normal flavor. This place was busy when we arrived, but wow the tables moved quickly. The breakfast food is your typical American dinner food; pancakes, waffles, omelettes etc. The ambiance is loud, very loud. If you don't mind it then you should be good. Staff is friendly and take good care of you. Just be patient with your food, it took us about an hour to get our food for a party of 3. Overall I came, I saw and conquered. I must say this was my second visit to this place & while food is just good (not great) the service is what makes it 5 stars. I stopped in on a busy Saturday with my two grandsons. One 5 & the other just 3.5 months old. I forgot the babies bottle in the car & needed to feed him while we waited for our food. This lovely waitress Frances came to my rescue. Thank you for helping me as did our own waitress who couldn't have been better to us. My grandson loves pancakes & fruit and that's exactly what he got. Thank you for all the extra help today. My girlfriend and I came to Williamsburg on a spur of the moment weekend trip so we didn't exactly map out places to eat - or stay until we got here. After picking the LaQuinta Inn on Capital Landing Rd. as our roosting place we were curious about the pancake house next door. She had the breakfast sampler: 2 pancakes perfectly buttermilked, 1 piece of sausage, 3 pieces of bacon not over salted, slightly charred for flavor, a single piece of Virginia country ham which was the low point for her as she found it bland. Two scrambled eggs and the choice of home fries over grits. I had an 8oz rib eye steak with 2 scrambled eggs, home fries, 3 pieces of bacon. Steak was cooked to order and fatty in home cooked southern fashion. It boosted the flavor tremendously. And coffee. Perfectly fine black or with cream. Total cost, two people: $38.83 - tax included. In short: if you love a hometown feel to cooking with a tremendous value of money, give this place a shot. I'm sure you'll love it! read more

I've been to many of the pancake houses in Williamsburg. Capitol Pancake House is by far the worst. Food is below average and the service, the service is ghastly. My friend and I waited 30 THIRTY minutes to get the check. We had to go speak to the owner, who by the way is incompetent, to get the check. My husband and I went here on a miserably cold and rainy morning because we knew that we would be at Colonial Williamsburg from the time they opened until after the fireworks, and we wanted a warm breakfast instead of the cold continental breakfast our hotel had, so we came here because it was on the back of the tourist coupon book. We should have chosen something else. My husband said his blueberry pancakes were okay-bordering-on-good (and steaming hot!), but my apple waffle was yuck. The waffle itself was lukewarm, and the apple topping they put on it was cold. Like, straight out of the refrigerator, which cooled the waffle.
